We were pretty excited about going to this place. It looked so cool and whimsical. The decorations are cool. The food is not good though. Everything was very, very salty. The ingredients seem like bulk, frozen items. They don't do any substitutions so you get food exactly as it is on the menu. If you don't want ketchup or Mayo you're going to get it. My son can't eat dairy and we asked for no butter and it all still came with butter. They seemed annoyed when we asked for different toast with no butter. Did I mention how salty it was. I take my Yelp reviews seriously because I want to give people guidance on food and service for restaurants. We all want to know what to expect when we are spending our hard earned dollars. I was disheartened to see Yelp reviews that do not concentrate on these important aspects of a restaurant. Here's my review that focuses on these important qualities of a restaurant. I took my daughter here for a special lunch a couple of weeks ago. I made a reservation because I had read that Saturdays are busy. The owner even asked when taking our reservation if we wanted a certain table... how about that service? Wow. We are easy going so I told her no. We arrived a bit early because our plans to hike prior to our lunch were changed thanks to bad weather. It was no problem whatsoever and we were seated immediately. We have only been for breakfast once before so we were excited to try some lunch items. I chose the Christmas cranberry sandwich and my daughter chose the French dip sandwich. She ordered a coffee, as well, which I tried... it was amazing. It was a chocolate type one or maybe mint... so good. Our lunches arrived on cute plates and looked so good (hope to add pictures later). My sandwich was amazing. Seriously, the flavors were outstanding and the meatloaf was homemade and tasty. My daughter liked her French dip but was a bit disappointed because the beef was fairly large pieces so harder to chew than if it had been slices on the sandwich to dip. She still enjoyed it but I think she would order my sandwich if we were to go again for lunch because she tried some of my sandwich and really liked it. We, of course, ordered one of their cupcakes to share. I believe we chose a strawberry one. They serve it warmed up and it was the perfect choice to end our lunch... not too sweet; kind of light. While we were enjoying our lunch a family stopped in with grandparents along. I have never been there with kids so it was so cute to see the kids being able to pick out a metal lunchbox from the various options and then later have their lunches served in the lunchbox. What a great idea for kids. It is obvious that the owner has really tried to make this restaurant unique and special for everyone. I had read some reviews about cleanliness of items inside the restaurant. There are lots of items there. Let me tell you I was looking very carefully at everything (including the bathroom) and was trying to figure out how they could keep everything so immaculately clean. I was very impressed. I could not find a speck of dust or dirt anywhere (and they have white coverings on some seating areas, rugs, etc.). Yes, I feel confident giving this restaurant and the staff 5 stars. I have never ordered anything that has not been amazing and the service at this restaurant is spectacular. The server (owner?) even apologized as we were checking out that she did not have enough time to chat with us during our time there. This is a small business that deserves our support and patronage. I am so glad we stopped in again to this wonderful restaurant. Try it. You will not be disappointed. read more

I ordered the chicken salad on a crispy croissant. It was delicious. The combination of shredded white meat chicken and cranberries and walnuts was the BEST I've ever eaten. Served w my choice of Black Tea and a slice of coconut cake for dessert served on a silver pedestal platter. Everything was fresh. The cake was moist, huge and not overly sweet. I have no idea where any negative reviews could possibly apply to the place we ate today. The owner is a master when it comes to setting the table scape, providing "the courses" cooking and serving it. She has a way of making you feel like "company" very much attention to every lovely detail. The prices are very appropriate. This isn't just a place to eat, its a place to spend time appreciating all that surrounds you. It's also a great place to take photos in the different areas the owner has staged. The Sugar Hill Bakery with its collection of frivolous thrift store decorations, arranged in a delightful confusion of color and sparkling lights, is surreal. I just knew my Mom would love it. The more she looked around the more thrilled she became. Then both food and service where the best. The ladies lavish their sweetness on Mom as she sipped her jasmine tea from a giraffe cup. All that made for a memorable experience. We will be going back with Mom's girlfriends. Eighty year olds enjoy tea parties too! Zero stars if I could. They are not allowing masks, even if customers have high risk medical conditions. My friends were high-risk and explained the situation to the owner, since this is her policy. This place is so cute and tucked away. It has a quaint feel to it which I loved. Apparently the decorations change with the seasons which I think is great. You can tell upon driving up this place isn't just any old bakery. The only thing I got was a white chocolate raspberry cupcake and OMG was it good. This isn't a small cupcake either. It was hard to choose just one. They all looked good as did the cakes. Everything there is made in house - they're aren't shipped in. Real tablecloths with real silverware. I recently went back to the Sugarhill Bakery and Cafe to celebrate a friends birthday. This place is always a joy to walk into. The eclectic Decor just has a way of melting the drama of the day and making your spirits bright no matter what time of year it is. The Wardrobe that you walk thru to enter the restaurant, The colorful cake and dessert display at the front, the carefully decorated tables with ornate chargers, the "snow-filled" Narnia scene in the bathroom and then the fun menus that take you back a few years. Do not expect to have the "best" omelette you ever had, or the "best" chicken salad that you ever had or whatever you order...But expect to be delighted. Expect that each entrée ordered will have a special presentation. Save room for dessert or split a few among your party. The way that this cafe/bakery has cornered the market is on their presentation. Keep it up SHBC! Keep your creative edge. At first we were worried that we were in some weird version of Alice in Wonderland, but the staff immediately welcomed us and made us feel at home. They then explained that they choose a theme and decorate the store according to it. I thought the decorations were a bit excessive, but didn't care after I started eating the amazing desserts! I have read the reviews regarding masks and I personally am very conscientious about wearing a mask due to a medical condition. For this reason, we came when the restaurant first opened so it wouldn't be crowded. People have a right to run their business as they please and if you disagree with their politics all that much, don't visit and then leave a bad review.
