This was my first visit to this location.. the place is beautiful! Big, open and new which is always nice. We sat in a room overlooking the wetlands, with the glass wall wide open. Super cool. First and foremost... the food came out HOT! Which is my #1 requirement. The server was super nice and very attentive. Food was good, nothing spectacular, but what ai expected. My mom and I stopped in for lunch yesterday. We were concerned we might have had to wait for a table since the parking lot was full, but the building is enormous! There was plenty of seating in various sections of the restaurant and we were sat right away. We ordered the strawberry, walnut and blue cheese salad to share and a 10" garden bella pizza. The food came out super fast even though it was relatively busy. Our server was on top of refilling drinks without us asking, the scrabble at the table to play while you wait was fun, and the atmosphere was unique. We're new to the area and have been trying to find our new base for restaurants, especially for our favorite of pizza. After trying several different area pizza places, we've found that Sugar River Sun Prairie keeps popping up as our choice of where to eat. We enjoy several of their specialty recipes. Our only "disappointment" with the pizza menu has been the meat lover's, which we find to be very salty. Otherwise, the flavor mix and choices are solid. We've done both eat in and carry-out. Our eat in experience has range from good to very good. Unfortunately, I've had some disappointing experiences with carry-out, mostly with the attitude and attentiveness of the register team. For instance, on one occasion, I waited for just under 10 minutes for someone to come to the register when I came into the carryout counter, even though I could hear and see people in the kitchen area and they didn't respond to my requests for attention. When they finally recognized my presence, they just pulled my order off of the warmer with no comment when I mentioned the extended wait. read more

I've been to this Sugar River Pizza location twice now. Both times I've been disappointed since I love the Verona location. The service has been slow and it's take a while to even get a servers attention. The food has been pretty hit or miss for me as well. The Amazon Deluxe pizza and stuffed breadsticks are good but the Yahara Alfredo pizza has no flavor. I've had a few other specialty pizzas that were pretty lack luster as well. The bruschetta was also strange to me because it comes out hot and is on super thick French bread. When I think of bruschetta, I think of cold mozzarella and crispy crustinis. The cocktails and beer selection is pretty good. I've gotten the Old Fashioned and Spring Blossom cocktail. I enjoyed both of them. My husband orders beer and is pretty happy with the selection. I'd recommend going to the Verona location if you're wanting to try out Sugar River Pizza. I'd also recommend sticking to pizzas with a red sauce. read more

My partner wanted to come here for her birthday. The ambiance was unremarkable. Even though it was only 7 pm, they were out of seasoned beef for Taco pizza, and wheat dough for Grissini breadsticks. The only thing that stood out was the salsa, and it was identical to the Mexican restaurant at Loredo's in Madison. When the food came, my pizza got cold waiting for the rest of the toppings since the waitress didn't bring them until the third time I asked for them. Didn't seem all that concerned when I asked her why, just a "I forgot".Terrible service. It was busy but not that busy. Not even an apology. Well to start I would give this a negative star review. Where to begin. Went in and got food. While waiting to get food I witnessed a server getting yelled at and screamed at by another server. This individual is named Noah that did the screaming and yelling at a co worker. Screaming and yelling and swearing at this person. Not to mention kids are present and you're swearing in front of them. Asked to speak with a manager. And this managers name is dani. Dani thought it would be a good idea to stay in her office and do absolutely nothing. This shows how worthless this individual is. I guess it pays to be the daughter of the owner. I would rather eat a frozen pizza than ever give business to this place. Great food, fast even though it was a busy prom Saturday night, and good service. The building is deeper than it seems, even with a full parking lot the wait was short for a table of 6. We were very hungry, so we ordered the Cheesebread appetizer right away, it was amazing, their regular dough is delicious, the Cheesebread was cooked to perfection with the cheese on top tasking fresh with hints of caramelization. If I had to say something bad about the Cheesebread it would be the cheese on top was hard to cut through and keep on the pieces. However because of how much cheese there was, you had plenty to go around. The cheese that was off the edge made fresh cheese crisps. We ordered 2 pizzas, both were the original crust pizzas. that crust is so good, I'm thinking of trying to convince my 8-year-old to get a part time job there just to learn the secrets. Or smaller was the Mac & Cheese Pizza, it was creamy Mac & Cheese under a great tasting crisp cheese layer on top that held everything in place with little effort to eat. Yeah it tasted delicious. We didn't have dessert, however the pile of cinnamon nuggets? that came to a table nearby looked good. The larger pizza was everything that a special pizza should be, the Amazon Deluxe, the meats were plentiful, I could have had more of the veggies, but it was a delicious solid pizza. Great crust, plenty of cheese, great toppings, the smaller sausage bits were great and had a very bacon flavor to them. Their children's menu was priced at $5, childrens drinks were a buck. Very affordable! The single topping 6" pizza was thin, my boy chomped it down smiling, so I assume it was delicious. The Mac & Cheese pasta bowl was both delicious and a good sized serving for any kids menu, for $5 it was large. The place was busy, but the service was on point and never dragging. Every time I was looking to flag our waitress down, she would walk over to our table within a min asking if she could do the very thing I wanted. I'm not sure if all their servers are that good but we had an A++ server. I had two coupons from the Bucky Book, sitting on the table, they were on my check when she brought it to me. FYI: They allow 2 coupons, at least two of these, for parties of 4 or more! $21 bucks saved! I'm pretty sure I will buy an extra book or two next year. The place was a great choice for the kids going to prom. You can dress up and not be out of place, you can also hit the spot in sports jerseys and feel right at home. We came in for the 1st time to try this place out. Our family was greeted instantly with smiles, asked what style of table or booth we would like to sit at, then instantly told specials and asked what we would like to drink. Off to a wonderful start. Looking over their beer menu was super impressive. They must have had 40-50 unique craft beers to choose from. Some I had never tried or even heard of before and oh man were they tasty. We had an amazing waitress... she was good with our kiddo and explained she had her own little one. We asked if we could try pizzas 1/2 & 1/2 so we could try a few different styles and she said absolutely. Now we were really excited! We tried a Taco (awesome flavors and salsa) we tried the Chiclen Bacon Ranch (super fresh creamy flavors) we tried the Steak pizza (awesome flavors and a ton of Steak) lastly we tried the Meat Lovers which was loaded to the max. Let's just say we left super impressed. Pizzas all tasted great, presentation was perfect to impress anyone, fresh ingredients, priced fairly and wonderful service with a smile. The best American traditional pizza spot in Madison and surrounding area not even a question for me. I have struggled to find a good pizza in Madison and I have tried many of the places in the area. I think it's important to state I'm hyping this spot up this much and I got the pizza delivered via third party delivery service. I will now have to go try it in person and update my review. The crust is really good here although I wold prefer it baked a few minutes longer it was really good dough. The ingredients were fresh and the meats were spot on! I loved the sausage here and I believe that sausage really does make or break a pizza. (perhaps I'm biased based on this) . Sugar River definitely has the best sausage in all of Madison. Service was outstanding, first and foremost. I'm not a huge pizza fan but my husband could eat it for every meal. This place has it all, even for non pizza lovers. Salads are delicious and huge. The shredded brisket nachos are soooooo good. My husband had the spicy kickin horse with thin crust and he said is was very, very good with just the right amount of kick. Made a comeback! Had a bad experience a couple years ago so hesitated to return. Because a family member a wanted a birthday lunch there, we tried it again. The purple one I had was so good! I can't remember the name but I would definitely go back just for that:) We ordered bruschetta for an appetizer and it was just okay. It was not your typical bruschetta bread. The bread was thick like garlic bread. They cooked it with the toppings. Too much bread to topping ratio. We decided to get two medium pizzas. One pizza was chicken Alfredo and the other was cheeseburger. I was a little disappointed in the cheeseburger pizza. I wish the pickles were on them and cooked. The pizza was just alright. We had been wanting to try this place after hearing good things, and I'm glad we did. The indoor/outdoor space outside overlooking the prairie was so nice. You almost forgot about the freeway right next to it! The bruschetta was a must order- it was our favorite thing! My sister and I split the margherita pizza. It was pretty good! Not the best pizza I've ever had but we enjoyed it nonetheless. My parents built their own and greatly enjoyed it. It's a very convenient location for after shopping. We will likely return, but I don't think it's quite as good as other pizza options in Sun Prairie. ALL OF THE PORK!!! Started our meal with a plate of the BBQ pulled pork Nachos super good, way bigger then we thought for two people. Then got the biggest Pizza, (16inch) for two of us and the nachos had filled us up but we ate some bites of the pizza and it was also fantastic. Wow, I don't know what those who have been giving this place stellar reviews have been smoking, but they should share as I could've used it. Maybe I would've had a better experience. My company booked the party room for the Christmas party. And let's just say the experience in regards to service and food paled in comparison to the last Christmas party back in the halcyon days of 2019 before the pandemic really took over. I'll start with the good, which was the beer selection. I would say, if there's a complaint from me there, it's that the beer menu is too IPA heavy. But most places with a decent selection of beers have too many IPAs on tap because IPAs are still "hip." Still, the one I got I was familiar with and was as good as I remember it. The barely mediocre thing was the service. Look, I know the restaurant industry is hurting for staffing, but when you have guests lined up at the bar waiting for 10 straight minutes to order drinks because the bartender has to also be serving food, well, that was especially stupid because you knew in advance you had a company Christmas party booked. Then, once there was someone staffing the bar, they ignored our party and forced our server to get us drinks. And I thought my customer service skills were lacking and I'm a sales manager! The worst thing was the food, at least for me. I ordered the pastrami reuben. While I wasn't expecting NYC deli quality, I wasn't prepared for what I got. The meat was bone dry, left on the grill way too long so it came out looking like beef jerky. Plus, it kind of tasted like peppered beef jerky as the dominant flavor was black pepper. Now, I haven't worked in a professional kitchen in years, but if my memory serves me correct, pastrami shouldn't taste solely of black pepper. Also, they only bothered to toast one side of the sandwich, so I had floppy, moist rye bread on the bottom. And to top it all off, my fries were bordering on being as cold as it was outside when I got them served. Honestly, the only reason why I didn't give this place one star is because the company owners were footing the bill. But I sure as heck would not come back here on my own if I were paying out of my own pocket. This was a severely disappointing experience that couldn't entirely be blamed on being understaffed in my opinion. There are much better dining experiences in Sun Prairie. Unfortunately, if I were to patronize Sugar River Pizza again, I'll most likely make the trip down to Verona to try that one. read more

Went here again last Sunday evening with our neighbor (1st time for her). My first time having a Bloody Mary (not spicy). It was too sweet - I'm not sure if it was from tomato juice, vodka and/or a mix. We also ordered the spinach artichoke dip. It came with plenty of corn chips and was tasty but there was hardly any spinach or artichoke. My husband & I had the side salads. Very fresh & generous portions. If I had to summarize this place in a single word, it would be "meh." It wasn't great. It wasn't horrible. It was meh. I've heard rave reviews from my friends, and the parking lot was packed at 4:55pm on a Friday, so it can't be all bad. Given how many tables and chairs they had, and how busy their servers looked flying around trying to wait tables, clearly it's not a horrible place. But, it's also not stellar. It's an entirely pleasant experience, but entirely forgettable, as well. The cheese curds were bland and mostly flavorless. There are plenty of places that serve better curds. The pizza was acceptable, but as far as Sun Prairie alone goes--it's behind Sal's, Anna's, Glass Nickel, and MOD in terms of flavor and texture--probably on par with Falbo Bros. The beer selection was okay. The servers were nice. However, given the volume of customers, the servers were stretched pretty thin, and they had a tendency to vanish for a bit (because BUSY, not lazy). If the place closed tomorrow, I would not be sad. I'll probably go back, but there is zero urgency to do so. When I have out-of-town guests, this is not the place I'd be taking them to show off my town. Yesterday we grabbed a pizza and a few calzones to take back home to Milwaukee...the service when picking up was awesome (super sweet kid) and the food is so incredibly good. I have been here before and didn't have a great experience but gave it second chance and it was actually worse. The service was very slow and we barely got checked on. Drinks took forever and it seemed as though my beer was ready for awhile as it was slightly warm when I got it. The appetizer looked delicious and it was decent but the bread seemed stale. The pizza came out slightly burnt as did other tables pizza. We got half chicken Alfredo half deluxe. The Alfredo had no flavor but the deluxe was good. I originally had my doubts about going to this place because it seems like a chain restaurant from the brand I have never heard of before, clocked in the middle of a bunch of new retail businesses and Sun Prairie. When I looked up their menu on their website, and seemed pretty substantial. The cheese curds and margaritas alone we're calling my name. We ordered loaded fries as well as cheese curds and a pulled pork thin crust pizza. The loaded fries came on a 14 inch platter with waffle fries covered with a couple of different kinds of cheeses and bacon bits. This is a very monster sized appetizer that would be sufficient for four people. The cheese curds were good, probably a 3.5 out of five stars. I'm not entirely sure I would spend $9.50 on them though. The pizza that was delivered was actually a barbecue chicken pizza and not the pulled pork pizza that we ordered. Nevertheless, the barbecue chicken pizza did not disappoint. The restaurant was designed very well with large tables and booths sitting. The service was very friendly and attentive. The biggest deal of the night though was the kids meal at only four bucks. This came with a 6 inch size macaroni cheese pizza, some gummy bears and an M &M cookie. My kid reported that it was delicious. When I come back again, I will be enjoying another one of their house margaritas as well as sharing some of those loaded fries with some friends. read more
