This spot has some pretty good food, however they need to understand health codes. One of the cooks went into the restroom with his apron and was wiping his hands on it after, the other cook brought out the food with some of the fries touching his hand, and the server was great but she was wiping her sweat with her hands and didn't wash them as she was going and giving everyone their stuff(drinks, check, etc.) I really hope they understand the safety and factors that play into being a food handler. Small quaint place serving American breakfast and lunch. Located in a warehouse shipping area, it can easily be missed. This is where my husband and I go whenever we crave American brunch. It's not the best but, it's close by to home. They have everything from eggs, pancakes to sandwiches. I especially like their sausages, it's juicy and twice the size of the usual sausages that are served at any brunch places. Customer service was poor and food was nothing special for the price. Steak and eggs was not actual steak. (Hash browns are served under the "steak"). Waitress said no to any substitutions. I did not want hash browns so I asked for fruit instead and she literally said "no my boss won't do it". I had lunch here and would give this little eatery 3.5 stars. I actually drove right by this place without seeing it even though it's right on the street. It's in an industrial complex of car repair businesses and warehouse space so you don't expect to see it there. I ordered the chicken spinach sandwich with a side of french fries. The sandwich also had melted swiss and tomato and was between two thick slices of ciabatta. They stack the sandwich high. So high that I couldn't take a bite from it; my mouth just won't open that wide! I still made the attempt and realized it was just going to be much too messy. I resorted to cutting it with a fork and knife which made me feel like a bit of a goober but hey, whatever it takes to eat. It was a delicious sandwich and the fries were also really good (not greasy). The fries were served nice and hot as was the sandwich. We all ordered their Iced Americano instead of their Hot coffee brewed over the Chemex. I'm not a huge fan of Intelligentsia coffee(you can read my Intelligentsia coffee experience from Old town Pasadena) and wasn't looking forward to their coffee. Being a coffee addict, I was in desperate need of COLD iced coffee. It was what I had expected. BITTER, BOLD and not very good. Even with cream and sugar, it was hard to swallow. Michael Y. seem to like his coffee very bitter and dark roasted so he really enjoyed this iced espresso drink. Pancakes: 3 stacks comes with butter and syrup. Over cooked and NOT fluffy. I like my pancakes fluffy....this pancake was dry. I'll pass. French Toast: Made using Raisin bread that comes with banana and strawberry drenched in syrup. It was good but nothing that stands out. I still like my french toast from Marstons in Pasadena. Omelette: You get to choose 3 items. Jayne L. got the spinach, ham and cheddar. It was pretty good. This also came with choice of toast and hash browns. Sausage links: 3 pieces for $3.50 This is no jimmy deans sausage links. It was VERY GOOD. I think the best part to my meal was eating the sausage links. Overall, this is a perfect place for those who can't cook or are too lazy to make their own breakfast. It's a famlily owned business and they seem to do very well catering towards the young adults. If you're not into DARK, BOLD, BITTER coffee, stay away from their Intelligentsia coffee. We ordered from their coffee of the day menu - what they do is freshly brew the coffee of your choice (we got Guatemalan for its bold, dark flavors with hints of sweetness) and pour it tableside with a large, glass vase. Opposite of a 7-Up, my coffee was not fresh and clean with no caffeine but fully loaded with a distinct and rich flavor and full of caffeine. 3+ Stars for the coffee. I also ordered fresh fruit. The fruit was fresh, but not very ripe. The serving was pretty large. I would average it at 4 Stars. This place has a very high rating. I would not drive out of my way to come here. I found this cozy cafe on my way home from a morning of thrift store shopping. I love to try and support my local small businesses. We decided to drop in around 11:30 am. The decor and ambiance is comfortable and cozy and the service was GREAT! My Mother and I both had the Intelligentsia House Blend coffee and shared the BLT w/Avocado and the Sugar rush french toast. The coffee was delicious. The BLT was standard and french fries that came with it were tasty. The "Famous" Sugar Rush French toast was tasty but would probably be better with thicker bread. The syrup, was very watery, which I didn't mind and the fruit that topped it off was tasty. This dish definitely gives you that breakfast "Sugar Rush".
