I've been going to Aubrey since November of last year for facials. I found her completely by chance: a quick yelp search, I chose Sugar Spa due to the glowing reviews and also the location being close to my work and home. Aubrey is super sweet and easy to talk to. Not only is she knowledgable, but her passion for holistic skincare really shows. First, Aubrey did a consultation of my skin, figuring out my skin type and also my goals: namely, lessening the severity of my breakouts (hello unwanted adult acne) and speeding up the healing process. Since I've been going to her, I've seen improvement with my skin and my breakouts have definitely been less severe. The facial is extremely relaxing. Aubrey goes over what products she's using and why. She also incorporates gua sha into the facial, which helps releases tension in the muscles in your face and also with lymphatic drainage. It doesn't hurt and is super relaxing. My face feels smoother and tighter after it's done. We also went over the products that I was currently using in my routine, to see if there's anything I'm using that may potentially be breaking me out. This was something I haven't experienced with my past facialists so I really appreciate the extra effort she takes! Overall, I highly recommend going to Aubrey for your skin needs! I was really excited to check out Sugar Spa because of all the great reviews. While most of the review thus far weren't about the facials, I figured it was a safe bet. The spa itself is small but really nice inside. It has a modern rustic vibe to it with its wood & pipe shelving and earth tones throughout the place. I went for the 75 minute Classic Facial ($75) that included a massage. The facial started off great and the massage was really relaxing. So it was all well and good up until the extractions. I've had extractions done before but this hurt A LOT more than I have experienced. Post extractions, I had a high frequency tool that went over where the extractions were done. I was told this was to kill all the bacteria around the extractions so breakouts wouldn't happen since the area was vulnerable. I was warned that it was going to sting so I was somewhat prepared but it REALLY stung. I didn't think too much of it since I've never had it done before so I didn't complain and just sucked it up. When I flinched, I was told just to take a deep breath and breathe. Sure. Deep breathes were taken. Post the facial my face was red where the extractions were but I was told that it'd die down within an hour. I was out for most of the day so I didn't have the time to really look at my face until I got home. When I did get home, my skin is actually worse than what it was when I walked into the spa. It looked like I broke out and popped all the zits on my face (these were where the extractions were done). How pretty! :s Now (the next day), I AM breaking out underneath where the extractions were. Most people stumble upon this place on accident. I usually go to tapioca express next door for snow bubbles and saw this cute looking spa. Upon reading great yelp reviews I decided I'd like to see what the hype is all about and find out what it's about. I needed a wax anyway :p Set up a quick appointment thru phone (I learned they have an easy, efficient online system as well), and got my first sugaring appointment for full arms in March with Qui. She was AMAZING. She explained what sugaring was, this organic magic hair removal putty jelly thing made from sugar, water, and lemon juice. The room they do it in is a bit small - but cozy. Nice ambient low lighting. It was also really cold, but not uncomfortable. She spent the next 45 minutes meticulously going over my arms and making sure it was hairless. It was easy to talk to her and she made me feel comfortable, which is important. Then she rubbed this nice soothing lotion after. Also, It didn't HURT(!!!), which I dreaded because I was used to waxing all my life. No more waxing ever! Sugaring forever. Plus, the hair follicles, over time, get thinner and thinner until you're hairless. No chemicals, no ingrowns. Right now, I'm just doing arms, but they do all body sugaring. I'm so glad that my cousin found The Sugar Spa in 2013. She went to college in Seattle where sugaring was really popular because it was less painful, more natural, etc. Although, when she came back to the Bay Area she was shocked to only find one Sugaring spot aka Sugar Spa in Mountain View! I remember the first moment I walked in...the smell of that lovely Fire candle that made me feel welcome and the cute decor that made me think, "omg so cute" over and over as I looked around the room in my head. My coochie needed some grooming so I made my appointment with Jessica and my cousin had one with Mia. I wasn't really sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't that bad. I felt like a wax on my upper lip was worse than getting sugared down there. After sugaring for the first time two years ago I knew I would never go back to waxing down there. So here I am 2 years later writing a long overdue Yelp review. I've had multiple facial, underarm, lip, and Brazilian sugar treatment/services done over the years. I've also booked both Jessica and Mia who are always so sweet and helpful. Depending on what day I'm available and what days they are, Jessica always ends up being more convenient. Don't get me wrong, Mia you're great. Jessica is just my girl! She's super funny and professional. She keeps it real and tells me if my face needs that extra extraction time instead of a massage. She knows I want my skin to look good because I always get a facial before I go on a trip. I love that she always tells me the truth, even when I know it and don't do it as often as I should. I went here twice with a great experience, but when I tried to make a third appointment, they said they could not accommodate me and accused me of stealing one of their products (some type of oil? I don't even know what it was) FROM THE SUGARING ROOM (do they have cameras in there and mistakenly thought I took something? Seems sketchy to me) and told me if I ever came in again, they would call the police. I have never been more offended! Clearly they misplaced this item and decided to put the blame on me. I just got back from my 3rd session with Qui at Sugar Spa and decided that I should write an overdue review! Since my first hair-removal appointment, I've been sending referrals to Qui whenever I am asked about hair removal appointments. So far I've had 3 hair-removal appointments, and 2 facial appointments (Classic Facial 75min and Hungarian Facial 75min). Qui makes the hair removal process as comfortable as it can (possibly) be. I should share and preface that I am a little particular with my skin, as I do have more sensitive skin, and also work in the beauty industry, so it has been a while since I started visiting a professional for my skin & hair removal needs. It sure feels great to find someone whom I can go to regularly! The most important thing I personally look for in an esthetician is his/her "touch," and not all estheticians are equally gifted in their healing touches. Qui also has nice facial massaging techniques. I go to reflexology fairly regularly, but I find that they do not know and understand how to massage someone's face, neck & shoulder muscles the same way an esthetician does. The same way reflexology can help our whole body and move the fluids around, a great facial massage can do the same for the skin on your face. When I was done & looked in the mirror in the bathroom, I was amazed that my skin was actually glowing. Even my headache went away, and I felt amazing. This was the results that I was looking for - relaxation and massage for my skin. Qui was telling me about some of the advanced skin care classes she took, and how it was mind blowing - and that is something else I look for & appreciate when I choose the professionals who will be taking care of me - whether it be my hair, my skin, my nails, my dentist or my doctor (you get my point!). I do that in my own business, and believe that it's important to stay on top of the latest; the new techniques & products. I do wish the sound proofing system was a little better in the spa. However, I am personally not too particular about the facilities itself, as long as it's nice and clean, easy parking, clean bathroom, great product line for retail (ilike & skinceuticals). Called to rescheduled my appointment due to last min emergency and was told I was going to be charged 50% because I had a cancelation back in November (8 months ago) I've been going here for be last 2 years and had great service with Mia but because of this rescheduling experience, I would not come back. What kind of place doesn't let you reschedule? Update 6/3/15 Mia was nice enough to reached out and apologized for the situation. We ended up rescheduling the appointment and the fee that was charged was removed. Turns out my last cancelation was in November of 2013. Thank you to Mia for your outstanding customer service. This review is long overdue. I can see a lot of people have had positive experiences here, but I can't say so for myself. I discovered sugaring in LA a couple years ago and loved it. When I moved to the bay, I wanted to continue sugaring and this was one of the only places offering it at the time. After my first sugar experience, they tried to sell me a tiny tube of ingrown hair cream for $70, ridiculous. I passed but afterwards I developed a disgusting amount of ingrowns, it was bad. I assumed maybe I should give them a second shot though for my next appointment and tried a different person here. My mistake! My ingrowns, shockingly enough, got worse. It was so horrendous I didn't get waxed or sugared for months. Finally I went to European Wax Center for their $20 ingrown serum that worked like a charm and went back to waxing. All proved fine. I've been waxing again since, until last month when I anxiously tried sugaring again in SF. The results: beautiful, just as I remembered how it should be. At first I thought there was something wrong with me to have such terrible ingrowns, which I hadn't seen occur until I tried Sugar Spa. After returning to waxing and sugaring at other locations, it definitely seems like something is wrong with this place. Maybe it's poor quality of sugar paste or poor technique, but I would never recommend any of my friends to go here and sure am steering clear of this place. read more

For anyone familiar with Lavender Beauty Spa in Fremont, this is where the establishment moved to. It's still the same amazing staff and service. 5 thousand stars for them. I went to Qui for a Brazilian. She is fast, yet soooo thorough!! No hair left behind! She's also makes great conversation. 150% moneys worth right there. I love the music they play, its not your typical babbling brooks and soft flutes. Instead its a great mix of chill, modern music that you can actually enjoy and even sing along to in your head while they take care of your business. Still in the process of putting little furnishings and wall decor up, but its a relaxing, comfortable environment. Friendly, professional, well priced. Love, love,love!!! read more

I rarely feel the need to write a review but my experiences at Sugar Spa have been so remarkable I felt compelled. First off, let me say, I'm a hair stylist in San Jose and have worked in many spas and salons and my experiences here have only been for their sugaring services not for facial services. I have been on the hunt for sugaring in my area for a while because my nether regions cannot handle harsh waxing. Sugaring is so much less painful because it is lukewarm and everything is pulled *in* the direction of the hair, not against. I get no ingrown hairs, no unsightly bumps and it lasts so much longer! My go-to-gal is Jessica. She is always friendly, makes me feel comfortable and most importantly, she's FAST. (Thank God ) Their text-for-appt option is so convenient and they respond to all inquiries very promptly. For me, what sets this place apart is their customer service. Sugaring leaves my skin feeling softer than regular wax, & I believe it's made with simpler ingredients which is always better! The ambiance is very chill. The lighting is relaxing and the music seems to always have a good vibe. They always offer you water while you wait.. I must say Jessica Is my favorite esthetician. When I moved to the Bay Area, I assumed there would be plenty of sugaring places around. Not so much. So I was pleased to find Sugar Spa just 20 minutes from my workplace. I was even more pleased when I realized what an amazing business this is! I've been going here for 6 months, and don't plan on stopping. I won't go into all the reasons sugaring is the greatest hair removal process for sensitive areas, since this is a review for Sugar Spa itself (but seriously, sugaring is magic). Where do I start? Their online booking is incredibly easy. The space is clean and calming. They are great with rescheduling over the phone. They're open later than most places--perfect for popping over after work. There is abundant parking nearby. I don't feel grody after laying on their tables. Etc. etc. I've had appointments with Jessica, Mia, and Qui and they are all excellent. I personally prefer Jessica because her personality jives with me the most, but really, when somebody's ripping your hair out, you just want them to be nice, which they all are. read more

However, if you've taken a break from waxing before you decided to start sugaring, if you're a week away from your period, or you have a low pain tolerance....be prepared. After hearing how much nicer sugaring was compared to waxing, I was painfully shocked that it. HURT. Maybe even more so then waxing. Take ibuprofen an hour before, invest in a good numbing cream (and test it out before your session), and relax as much as you can. Had my first visit today with Angela. She was amazing. My skin has developed breakouts and dryness since we moved to the area. With an event coming up next week, I wanted to get ahead of any problems. The treatment was so relaxing I may have dozed off for a moment. My skin feels fabulous. The establishment has a relaxing, natural, minimalist vibe. Soft music playing. I found the pricing reasonable and plan to return.
