I've done both the sugaring here (with a trainee) and the airbrush tan. Loved them both. The sugaring trainee was great and her instructor made sure everything was perfect before I left. Also, the sugaring was less painful and gave me fewer ingrown hairs afterwards than traditional waxing. I've done two tans here now and both came out looking amazing. My only complaint with my second tan was that the palms of my hands turned brown, but I think that may have been from touching my hair after the barrier cream was taken off. It's really tough to get hands/wrists/ankles/feet done right with these kinds of tans. I wish the tan applicator person would give better instructions with the barrier cream. Update: Despite the fact that I don't even think it was the applicator's fault for my palms turning brown (pretty sure that was me not paying close enough attention to what I touched after the tan was applied), the owner responded quickly to this complaint and offered a very agreeable solution. I went in for a spray tan. I ended up getting the express tan which is $49 and you can wash it off within a few hours. My tan is lovely, btw. I get another one for free when I return, which is a great deal. My esthetician did a great job. she was super friendly. My only complaint is that you have to pay for extras in the tanning room-- disposable panty, hair cap, hair tie, flip flops... thats kind of ridiculous. next time I will bring my own. But the tan is great and everyone was very nice there. read more

Sugar and bronzed is my go to for spray tans in the city. I've been going here for two years for every event, holiday, etc and my tans always come out perfect. It took a few times to figure out what level of color I was looking for- on a scale of 1-4 darkness, I use level 3, which I thought would be too dark but ended up being the exact color I was hoping for. Tans generally last about a week before starting to get splotchy in areas. The only downside is that it is difficult to get a last minute appointment at a desirable time for those of us who work the standard 9-6pm, so I am thrilled to see they are opening additional locations, hopefully that will help with this concern. read more

UPDATE: Well, they've made me a fan again. They have definitely fixed their reservation system so I no longer how trouble getting a spot, which means I can once again get their way-better-than-waxing services. I've received fantastic customer service lately, and everyone has been exceptionally nice when I've gone to my appointments. I'm now begging them to open a location closer to my apartment. Seriously, this is so much less painful than waxing, and it's actually good for your skin rather than damaging. Go try it out! read more

I LOVE this place. I had a Brazilian done. It was quick relatively painless is you're coming from a traditional wax. It wasn't so harsh like wax is. I'm definitely coming back. I had a friend recommend this place to me after being a little concerned about waxing while being 9 months pregnant. Though the pain of a Brazilian definitely is still very much there (and even more so that your sensitivity is heightened from hormones) the end result was great. As someone with super sensitive skin (after waxing my skin would turn red and blow up like a ballon) I had stopped waxing for almost a year because my last one was so painful (use to go to unikwax). I couldn't walk afterwards and usually had an ice pack on my lady area for a few hours to bring down the swelling. Always during my sessions I had to request ice packs after the pull because the pain was not fun. I always started waxing for bathing suit season and after a few months quit getting waxed because it just wouldn't be worth the pain, burning and walk of shame afterwards. I found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. Kelly was amazing. I was skeptical it could be less painful and figured my first time after a year of no waxing and lots of shaving would suck but eventually get better. It was way less painful (if you haven't realized by now I hate pain) then I expected. I was relieved that a waxing could hurt way less. I look forward to the next time being better as well. Some big pluses to sugaring 1. The wax is NOT hot or warm. It is room temperature which means no burning. My sensitive skin loves that. 2. It goes with the grain as opposed to against making my first time WAY less painful. Of course it isn't void of pain. But nothing near what I experienced from other Brazilian waxes. 3. Literally took 15 minutes for the first time. Usually I spent 45 minutes of pain and awkward talk. I signed up for my next one during my lunch hour because it will only take half that time. At the end they used witch hazel (natural product) which I am very happy about since perfumes and chemicals make my skin break into hives. Some people felt rushed... I feel like my time is valuable and she did a great job in the time frame always asking me that if I need a break to let her know. The deal is great. $49 for two plus their membership brings it down to $39 a month. I signed up for the membership to save that $10 bucks. I use to pay $60 for torture. All around a great deal and experience especially for sensitive skin. Make sure to book two weeks in advance for hours after the normal 9-5. They are serious booked up really quickly. I work in the area so I booked during my lunch hour because it is quick and afterwards i am fine enough to go back to work. read more

I've been to the union square location twice so far for sugaring. I used the buy 1 get 1 free new client special, which is a great deal! (Just be mindful of blackout dates for the free one before major holidays). The staff is all super friendly and make sure you are comfortable. This was my first experience with sugaring, I typically always waxed in the past. I wouldn't say sugaring is necessarily LESS painful than waxing, it is just different. Definitely gets better if you go consistently and is worth the pain (in my opinion). The staff does a great job at talking to you and keeping you distracted. They also let you tip on a credit card, which is convenient if you forget cash! It does book up quickly so it can be hard to get a last minute appointment, but if you book in advance there are tons of convenient times available. As for the tan, i have to admit i am new to fake tanning, and S & B eased all of my worries and gave me a very natural tan with no lines or blotches. It also lasts with some care around 2 weeks. Went for my first spray tan ever at S+B with my friend whose wedding is this weekend. It was seamless to make an appointment and they confirmed via email and text to remind me. When I arrived check in was quick and easy before we were immediately whisked into our own private rooms for our personalized spray tans with individual technicians. There was plenty of room to undress, store your belongings (trust me, i'm a bag lady) and get your tan. The technicians were lovely and comfortable to be around providing light conversation throughout. I was in and out in under 20 minutes with a beautiful golden tan! It cost around $50 for your first tan but then they give you one for free! So essentially its $25ish each, for your first two tans. Would definitely recommend trying out and trusting this place! read more

S+B is my favorite waxing/tanning place in the city. I have been coming every month for the last year and have never had a bad experience with them. The product is great, the service is great, and it's a very personalized experience. I recommend coming here to everyone. The process of sugaring hurts, as does any hair removal process. I have the subscription with them so prices are pretty cheap and it actually keeps me in a routine. I don't tan regularly, but I have here before. I'm updating my review to include the airbrush tan. The associate who helped me was absolutely lovely! She explained everything about the product since it was my first time and I do use self tanner quite often. (I've been spray tanning for 15 years)This formula is great, doesn't smell and is a quick process. I gave it three stars because I do find it difficult with some solutions to continue a normal (more relaxed) fitness routine after. Even with moisturizing, this tan became uneven and faded after two days. This may just be me and I am willing to give it another shot! read more

I had a sugaring experience about 5ys ago in D.C. that was not noteworthy. I was not impressed. I've had everything done in the past from waxing to countless laser sessions. Amanda imparted her knowledge of risks and benefits for many forms of hair removal. As Amanda warned me with sugaring, the first time is not "painless". The staff is not accommodating and don't run on schedule. My spray tan came out uneven. My bikini line was sooo dark and the creases in my arm and underarms. Some parks washed off almost completely while other parts were very dark. The location in union square did my Tanaka the next day I flew to LA for vacation and I went to another location in Beverly hills and they were shocked with my bad results. Recently moved to NYC and looking for a trustworthy, decently priced place to get my monthly wax. While on Yelp I stumbled across Sugared & Bronzed and was intrigued. The promotion for first timers ($49 for 2 Brazilian waxes) was definitely a big draw. I went on the website & made an appointment online. Im not going to lie, I was intrigued but very nervous (even though most people said waxing is more painful) Once you walk in, the place is small, seems like only 2 wax rooms and a few more tanning rooms. the check in lobby area smelt amazing and all staff was super nice. They may have been running a little late because I did have to wait 20 mins before getting called in but I was in no rush. Kelly was amazing! She explained everything and made me feel very comfortable. She definitely was knowledgable and considerate. The process took 25 mins from walking in the room to paying & walking out of the place. It was not painful at all!!!! A walk in the park compared to waxing which always tenses me up, makes me sweat and even screech from pain at times. The sugar ball is warm and doesnt leave the skin sticky or sore/painful. There were a few stragglers that may not have happened during a wax. I feel like its easier to spread wax in some areas & easier for a strip to pick up the stranglers vs. using the sugar ball in a tight spot (no pun intended!) No big deal though, used a tweezer when I got home. Great, painless alternative to waxing. I look forward to becoming a regular and will be visiting Kelly next month! read more
