    - got the don't trust me menu that came with 6 orders of nigiri (2 pieces each), 2 specialty hand rolls, and eel nigiri at the end - the starter sashimi was yum i wish the sauce was a bit more acidic - everything tuna was solid i love the bluefin which is a tad more lean but the chutoro was soooo melt in the mouth. the ootoro was pretty good but i wish it wasn't drenched in sauce bc it was fairly strong - the hand rolls were - I LOVE STRONG VINEGAR SUSHI RICE so this place hit that well - i'm not sure if the $60 is worth it? the lobster choices i assume made it more expensive otherwise the rest of the menu included parts from the $40 tasting menu...might just stick with that next time since it has yellowtail - the service was so amazing!! thought you could tell they eye hawk you down to figure out the pace of bringing the food out. they try to space out bringing the sushi but i felt a bit rushed as a slow eater

I would rate this more like 3.5 stars. We were seated immediately when we came on Saturday at 3:40pm. We ordered à la carte and were hoping for a quick bite but it took long for all the food to arrive. The sushi was good but not mouth watering. It didn't leave me feeling like I had to order more. It's nice inside the restaurant but other than that, for its name and price, I wouldn't care to come back again.

I've been to Sugarfish many times, but this was my first time at this location. As usual, the fish was incredibly fresh and high quality. I love their omakase style menus, you really can't go wrong with any of them. The service was very attentive, the restaurant was clean, and like the other locations, gratuity is already included in the bill. I'll definitely be back.

Did the trust me, and it was a solid experience! The foods they gave us paired really well, and we got to try a large variety of sushi's because of it. Filling enough; pretty good for $35. Service was friendly.

    Unagi, cucumber, toro, yellowtail

My office loves Sugarfish, so we decided to do a takeout lunch from here. Most of them ordered one of the preset lunch boxes, but I did a variety of items, including the cucumber, toro, yellowfin, and unagi rolls with a side of edamame and tuna sashimi. I thought everything was pretty good, but I think I've had better fish elsewhere. Some of the cuts of fish left a really fishy taste in my mouth, and I had to cleanse my palette with the cucumber and edamame. I do appreciate that everything here is very thought out, especially with all of the sauces that should be used for each type of sushi. One thing to note is that if you don't order one of the preset boxes, they combine all the rolls in another box, which was a little inconvenient for a group order. But, they were willing to give extra boxes for us to split it up on our own. We placed our order online and it was ready for pick up at the designated time.

Kind of disappointed. I know I am not getting omakase but the shari broke for half of the pieces, and I know how to use my chopsticks. Also found fish bones (tiny but want more attention). There was a 16% fee added to my togo order for unknown reasons.

I ordered the Don't Think, Just Eat box To Go This was easily the best To Go sushi I've ever had, everything was executed perfectly, the presentation, quality of sushi, quantity, and plenty of condiments. Everything in this box tasted so fresh, none of the raw fish tasted salty , the ponzu sauce was amazing. If you're nearby I would highly recommend to get this place.

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Parking: 3/5 Family friendly: 3/5 Stroller friendly: 2/5 ADA accessible: 3/5 Pretty much all the food we ordered here was top-notch. Wifey and I ended up sharing the NOZAWA TRUST ME ($48) and then a la carte afterwards. Everything made was super fresh and super delish! Service was quick, friendly and even the manager ( I think it was the manager, she seemed like she really enjoyed her job!) i feel like that makes a huge difference to customers and sets the vibe on the place. Also, A BIG PLUS, THIS PLACE IS A NO TIP ESTABLISHMENT. Meaning, they probably pay they're employees a living wage. Kudos to Sugarfish for this. Only downside for me was the lighting ( intimate and dimly lit) which made it challenging to see the menu. Also, parking is challenging too. I highly recommend coming her if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed.

Fantastic experience all around. The sushi was all so fresh and delicious the rice was absolutely incredible. The service was great. The sake is one if my all time faves.

Anytime I can... Sugarfish it is! Today I sat at the counter... dinner for one. They were attentive and helpful. I tired their " dont think just eat" and oh my!! I am stuffed. Simple, great quality fish! No fancy rolls just amazing pieces. I do wish they offered a bit of a spicy item.... Like maybe shishito peppers.

Wow. Everything was wow. Fixed price menu. We had 3 x the medium price. Added in on our favorites at the end. Nice selection of sakis. Beer selections limited. Excellent service. Servers have a nice explanation of each course. We were lucky and were seated without much wait. There is often a line outside. Very small seating area, and they sort of don't encourage sitting around once you finish eating. Best sushi I have had in the US. (Morimoto in Napa was a different experience) You will not regret this, I assure you.

Had a good time hanging at the Sugarfish bar. We both had the DTJE and were full and happy by the end of service. No big surprises or revelations during our meal, the the service was attentive and the fish was fresh and perfectly seasoned. The place was packed and loud the whole time. We were not disappointed.

This was my first time at Sugarfish and it was a wonderful experience. I went during their lunch time on Friday with some friends and it wasn't packed at all, which we enjoyed. The service was helpful and efficient. The food was really good and fresh of course. The ambiance was also very nice, I think they did a good job of keeping the environment calm and enjoyable despite the location outside being a busy one!

Ask the Community - SUGARFISH | Downtown LA

According to the website, your establishment is no-tipping store. What is this mean? Is this mean the tip is already included on my bill?

Yes, 18% tip is already added to your bill automatically.

    Is there free parking?

No. According to their website: Paid parking is available at LAZ Parking at 725 South Grand Avenue (just around the corner from SUGARFISH) for a flat rate of $7 after 4 pm on weekdays and $7 all day during the weekend. The rate on weekdays before 4… Read more

Are they open for in-person dining yet?

Yes, but not at full capacity.

Are they still doing the tasting menu? I don't see any recent mentions and visiting so I want to be sure before making a trip there.

How's the sushi? Fresh? Ok? Not great?

It is the best sushi ever! Everything is so fresh and great quality. My favorite place for sushi!

Can I still have my meal count toward my birthday reward if I order delivery? If so, how?

    Call in your order?

Do I have to wait until the store is open to order online for to-go?

No, you can order now. They've been taking take out orders for weeks now. Also I got an email saying that they will open their dining room pretty soon, if not already.

What is Don't think. Just Eat in the menu?

It's a fixed menu where they have set items although occasionally they substitute one item when they're all out. It's a great way to experience the quality of the fish.

    Do they take reservations?

Not for lunch. Don’t know about dinner. If you’re going for lunch get there 30 minutes before they open or you won’t get a seat until 1.

Do they carry gluten free soy sauce?

I have never seen it there. I ate there a few years ago with someone who wanted it and they didn't have it then. You have to understand that SUGARFISH is by Nozawa, who had the preeminent sushi spot in Los Angeles for years in a strip mall. You… Read more

What is the average wait on a Saturday nite?

All depends on the time you get there. Before 6 little to no wait.

How long is the wait on Friday evenings at the DTLA location?

    30-45 minutes

What time is best to go if I can't get there right at 11:30? Does the second seating start around 1?

One of the best sushi spots I've had a in a while actually. We didn't really do any appetizers and went straight in for the fish. Started off with a couple of hand rolls, we did the crab hand roll and O toro hand roll. Crab hand roll wasn't as impressive, I've had better to be honest. I didn't let that experience ruin it for me because the toro hand roll was delicious. I think they add a piece of mint and it complimented the hand roll. Very crunchy nori wrapper and good rice to fish ratio. For our sushi we started with chu toro tuna, salmon belly, and halibut. Super fresh melt in your mouth quality. Halibut was interesting with the truffle, first time definitely won't be the last. We ended it with red snapper and black snapper. Nice of the chef to switch out roe for halibut for me on my omakase. However, probably the worst omakase I've ever had. No creativity, nothing felt premium, chewy fish, flavors didn't mesh, and half of it was salty. The miso soup wasn't scorching, which i appreciated at first but that meant the last few sips were fairly room temp. The real crab handroll was good. If the price point was $35 sushi set I'd give 5/5 but this is supposed to be premium omakase. I've been to other Sushi Enya locations and had good experiences, so this was very disappointing. Stick to the rolls and nigiri.

Long story short, our dining experience felt rushed. We waited about 45 min- an hour for a table. Once we were seated, we were pushed to order right away. I had come here before but it was my husband's first time dining. He needed more time to decide and look over the menu. Well he didn't get much of a chance to look at what he wanted to eat because the server was standing there waiting. Literally staring. What would you like to order? I explained to her that it was his first time here and he needed time to look over the menu and asked her if she can come back later. She proceeded to say it will take longer to get our orders in and delay the kitchen staff. That didn't end there. Right after our food was served, one of the servers came by to ask if everything was ok and if we needed anything. We said no. Shortly after, the server dropped the bill at our desk. Mind you, we were not even close to finishing our meal. I understand there are other customers waiting for a table but you shouldn't be rushing the customers currently eating. They clearly prioritize turning tables faster to make profit. It was not a pleasant or enjoyable dining experience. I would choose another sushi spot.
