Another incredible and elevated dining experience here at Sugar Fish!! We had the pleasure of being served by the amazing EJ. He was so kind & pleasant with us for the entirety of the lunch. Everything came out in a timely manner and special shoutout to the awesome general manager for coming to check in with us & having us sample a few variations of our favorite plate (the Seabream, a must try) I can't wait to come back. No other sushi compares!

First time coming to the studio city location as we typically go to the one in Pasadena. Came for lunch at 11:30am when they opened and were seated immediately. Same clean and modern interior and their staff were very friendly as well. We each ordered the lunch Trust Me set, which came with their edamame, tuna ponzu sashimi, 6 nigiris, toro handroll, and finished with a blue crab handroll. We were happy and satisfied as everything we got tasted fresh with the same great quality as their other locations. The staff came by often to refill our waters and take our finished plates away. We asked for extra ginger and wasabi, which they brought for us quickly. There is free 90 min parking in the lot, which is super convenient. We would come back to this location again!

Always great service! No different this time either. Had a great time celebrating my son's birthday. Everyone had a Trust Me and I had a Trust Me Lite. Food still good. Love going here but wish they had more individual tables farther apart. I like to have a lot of room. I know, kinda selfish. Will I come here again? You bet!! Free parking for 90 minutes.

Trust me - it was awesome

I forgot to take photos of the food, THAT'S how good it was! My friend and I both ordered the "trust me" and now I can safely say I am healed from all trust issues. The servers are all so friendly and sweet I kinda wanna hang out with them. The restaurant is in that cool nook of sportsman's lodge and there's an awesome vegan ice cream place next door. We had the best day. Yay!

My camera brightened it up a bit but it's much darker.

First timers at SUGARFISH. I have heard many great things about the food at SUGARFISH in general, not just this location, but I have to honestly say I feel like this place is overhyped. The food is good quality and the fish is fresh, but the taste and the flavors overall aren't anything that really stood out and didn't seem to make sense price point wise. I feel that without the (very) dim, intimate lighting and feel, the food was not that memorable, especially not what you pay for. Customer service was okay. We felt like we were just people occupying a seat when we had to wait so long for it, and felt like now they were just waiting for us to leave. Seating: many small tables, but you're cramped and tightly seated near others Parking: free for 90min in the lot Price: $$$

God, the lighting in here is beautiful. It has that soft, intimate orange glow that makes this cozy space even cozier. Came here with a friend and I like how the meal is served one course at a time. It gives you time to savor your meal. The high quality of the fish is something you can actually taste. While pricey, this is a lovely special treat. The bathroom features two kinds of soap, one for before you eat your fish (unscented) and one for after (scented). That along with the bathrooms being all genders makes for a thoughtful lavatory experience. Trans and NB friends, you're welcome here. They have birthday rewards club but you have to sign up in person. This is a great date night spot.

I came here last night on a whim to hit the night out in town since I had a friend and her teenage son visiting from out of town. Since this Sugarfish is located in the heart of the Sportsman's Lodge Plaza filled with other fun eats, shops, Erewon, and even an Equinox gym on the property I knew it would be the tickled fancy affair that with give the fun, bustling vibe that would excite my friend from our I'd town. I put our names down but not to a surprise they said it'd be a 45 minute wait. So in the meanwhile we checked out the Erewon market that has all the organic flair you hope to see. Then walking around to see the shops around. Then we sat at one of the outdoor patio tables to kill time. I was surprised that the wait was shorter than they stated for a party of 5. When we got seated we instantly all knew what we wanted, which was their notoriously famous omakases. This means the chef chooses what to make for you. The decision was simple. I chose the Trust Me dinner. My sister went up a notch and got the Nozawa dinner. My friend went up another double notch and got the Don't Trust Me dinner. It's amazing how every sushi piece just melts in your mouth. My favorite were the salmon sushi and the baked crab handroll. Everyone left super satiated and wanting to go back already. The dark dim ambience was cool too. Can't wait to go back.

Wow !!!!! Soooo loud in here. It's a very small space so it seems like everyone is squished together and is yelling and talking so loud. Really unpleasant. But we made through our lunch without losing our minds lol It was my first time here and luckily our waiter was very friendly and helpful. He explained their menu and made it easy for me to choose. We both chose the Trust Me option and were still hungry after eating it all. So I ended up ordering extra hand rolls. If you love rolls this is not the place for you. They only have sashimi , sushi, very simple hand roll and cut roll. Fish and rice. Now I know this is Nozawa-style sushi and it's not what I like. I really enjoy specialty rolls at sushi spots. Don't get me wrong I love sashimi and sushi too and always order a variety. Now the food part, the sushi was very fresh and good quality. The sashimi in ponzu and chives was excellent. The hand rolls were ok. More rice than fish for sure. The crab was our least favorite. Customer service was good, the ambiance not so good. Too loud for us and unpleasant.

I decided to finally try Sugarfish in Studio City after hearing all the rave reviews, but I was pretty disappointed. First, the good: the fish quality was amazing--super fresh with no fishiness--and I really liked how the box was packaged, with a guide explaining how to eat it. The ponzu and wasabi were solid, spicy with a great umami kick. My favorites were the salmon pieces and the yellowtail. That said, the rice was hit or miss--it kept falling apart when I picked it up, which messed with the whole bite. I wasn't a fan of the sashimi bits either; they felt like minced leftovers that didn't belong anywhere else. And the pricing? $9 for minced pieces of sashimi is crazy. Overall, I spent about $50 on a box that just didn't feel worth it. Parking was a pain--super crowded with tons of people around--and while the staff were friendly, it's not enough to bring me back unless I'm absolutely craving expensive sushi. Even then, I feel there are better options, especially given how underwhelmed I was here and at KazuNori, the hand roll spot from the same restaurant group.

We went over to my cousins for lunch and he ordered the to go boxes of sushi. Oh my gosh, I loved it. It was so good. There were about 16 pieces of sushi plus sashimi edamame and then the sauces and ginger in our box plates. it was just right and he had ordered for seven of us. And we ate on the rooftop of his apartment so it was great!!

Do u offer gluten free sauces to go?

No...the menu is the menu and that is a huge reason that made Nozawa unique and create an omikase experience like Japan....

Wondering what the wait usually looks like for lunch? Would you say it's the same as the dinner wait?

Lunch is usually quicker. People on their lunch breaks don't have time to dily daly lol! It is rare that a wait is up to an hour.

If you order any of Trust Me's, are you able to swap anything out for a hand roll instead of sushi/sashimi?

If you order any of the TM's, you can only substitute the same for same. Per example: Sashimi for Sashimi, sushi for sushi, and handroll for handroll. There is no interchanging subs.

How does the quality change from eating in restaurant to ordering takeout?

The rice is not warm like it is when you get it in the restaurant. Also, all the pre sauced items have the sauce on the side now. The hand rolls are cut rolls. I much prefer eating in the restaurant and think the overall taste is better. Same…

    How's the curry udon?

    They don’t serve curry udon.

They open at 12 and our ETA was 12:03 (12:10 bc of traffic). So we joined the wait-list at exactly 12. It said there was no wait and it is not typically busy at that time. Arrived 10m after opening and there were no seats available. We probably got seated around 12:40. While we waited we looked at the menu (had to ask twice for it). Outside of the building is nice and clean. There's an outside bench for cooler days, but one person should wait inside so they can call you once seats are ready. The ambience is hip and modern--bar seating. Probably about 25-30 seats. The staff are friendly and attentive. We asked some questions then ordered our handrolls . Server asked how we wanted the handrolls. Spicy or no spicy? Japanese paper, Korean paper, or soy? He recommended Korean paper for most of the rolls, soy paper for baked crab, and spicy for all. We got the 6 set $30, plus baked crab $7.50, spicy shrimp and snow crab $8.50. Then at the end we added the unagi $8.50. Handrolls came out two at a time. They were pretty good, though not amazing. Korean paper was light and crispy, but it would've been nice to try the Japanese paper. I don't remember the spicy shrimp and snow crab at all so they probably minced it :( Note: you could customize each roll based on type of paper, spicy or not. We weren't given that option probably for sake of efficiency. They have two individual bathrooms with community sink. Automatic faucet. Check out the cute mini hand towel (video) they provided at the table! All in all, glad to try this place but would not come back. I'm curious to try Kazu Nori to see how they compare.

Located on Ventura Boulevard, Sushi Tomoki is a small, intimate sushi restaurant with a clean, minimalist Japanese aesthetic and a relaxed atmosphere that lets the food take center stage. (The Infatuation) Since we were dining with our 22-month-old, we requested a table instead of sitting at the sushi bar, and the staff was very accommodating. They even prepared a customized tamago sushi roll for our little one, which he absolutely enjoyed. The omakase was thoughtfully paced, with each piece served one at a time so we could fully appreciate every bite. The fish was incredibly fresh, and every piece practically melted in our mouths. The attention to detail and quality of the ingredients really stood out. The only piece that wasn't my favorite was the sushi topped with mint. It simply wasn't my personal preference, though I'm sure those who enjoy mint with savory dishes would appreciate it. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Everyone was warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. They made my sister's birthday even more special by singing Happy Birthday and surprising her with complimentary sherbet and four pieces of green tea mochi--a thoughtful touch that ended the evening on a high note. Spicy Tuna Cut Roll--for 10 pieces ($14.80), Albacore Fried Onion Roll-- count of 12 for ($20.80), Zero Roll-- count of 12 for ($25.00), Rainbow Roll-- count of 12 for ($10.80). Everything was so LIGHT, FRESH and DELICIOUS!!! They also have hand rolls, and other types of cut rolls. They have street and metered parking. Before I forget, we ordered Crispy Rice Tuna that came in (2) pieces for (13.50). The minute I saw that, it made me laugh. Called our server and told her to take that back and remove it from the bill which she gladly did. I thought it was going to be an actual full course rolls. They also have dessert but we didn't order anything. Restaurant was very quaint, limited decor, very busy for Monday mid evening, and was very nice and clean. Total came out to be $95.70 including tax minus the tip. I'm sure they also have a bathroom, but we didn't end up using it. I will return, but not any time soon. They also don't have any Bento Box type of food. Very authentic place to go on a date, friends, family or even dine solo. They also have a Sushi Bar. If you're someone who enjoys traditional, high-quality nigiri and sashimi, this probably won't be your go-to spot. Shiki is all about comfort sushi: big rolls loaded with imitation crab, creamy sauces, baked toppings, and bold flavors. It's rich, indulgent, and definitely on the heavier side. That said, when you're absolutely starving and just want something satisfying that hits the spot, Shiki delivers. The menu is huge with endless options, portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. Every time I've come here I've ended up ordering specialty rolls instead of actual sushi because that's really what this restaurant excels at. I also have to admit... baked rolls are one of my guilty pleasures. A lot of higher-end sushi restaurants don't even serve them because they're more of a comfort dish than traditional sushi, so Shiki scratches that itch perfectly. The service was exceptional--friendly, attentive, and quick, which always makes the experience better. Will I be back? Probably not anytime soon, simply because I usually crave a more traditional sushi experience. But compared to other restaurants in this style and price range, Shiki does an excellent job.
