Luckily it wasn't crowded at the time we went and were able to be seated right away. Sat down and they gave us water and we were able to place our first order. Their rolls are different than most sushi places I've seen and they have no rice rolls which is amazing. They also give half sizes compared to other places (4 pc instead of 8) which helps so much! Customer service was amazing and they were so attentive. You also get complimentary green tea ice cream at the end and who can say no to that? Dinner was 46$ a person. Well this spot has gone DOWNHILL. A la carte rolls are the size of AYCE rolls , 15% auto gratuity and unhygienic bathrooms. The tables are sticky and so is the floor. The customer service is non existent, you literally have to walk up the counter and ask for whatever you need yourself since no one wants to help you. Honestly disappointed. I will not be back here. It is conveniently located by NOHO west but the food is guaranteed to make you sick. Every roll has so much imitation crab in it that you dont taste anything else. The cut off the fish was weird some of it was thick cut some of it was thin cut. Not even ginger and wasabi was stingy you only get 1 of each. While you get 2 chopsticks The rice tasted so bad when you take the first bite you be like this is horrible. Anyways, it wasn't worth the price and the fish was okey. Decent ayce spot in the valley. It's $43/person and just a flat fee, no added cost for premium menu items. The service is really good, they're on top of things. They fill your water when empty, you don't have to wait forever to get your food, etc. Decent amount of seating but not a ton. Casual spot. They have lots of appetizers, sushi, rolls, no rice rolls (instead of rice they fill them with imitation crab) and some premium items that have a limit of one order per person. The yellowtail here was the best out of all the fish, salmon next. The tuna wasn't great. But overall I wouldn't say the quality of fish is the best in town. Yellowtail is best but still overall just subpar. The best sushi rolls were the Yellowtail Delight, I Got Sea Roll, Ex Girlfriend Roll, and Baked Volcano Roll. The problem I had with most of the rolls was that they were way too creamy. I couldn't have some of the rolls bc they felt way too heavily mayo-ed. A positive is that they definitely don't over-rice their rolls which I appreciate, esp for an ayce place. As long as you stay away from the some of the rolls that are overly creamy, it's an ok meal. Not the best sushi quality you'll ever have, but good for ayce. And I like that they don't overdo it on the rice, they don't intentionally hold off on serving your food so you fill up, and the service is good. Dropped in to give them a try not long ago. Friendly chefs got me seated and started quick on a weekday lunch. I started with some appetizers and the limited carpaccio sashimi. Carpaccio had good dressing/seasoning. Agedashi Fried Tofu came out lightly breaded but nicely fried. I opted for some standard nigiri and both house and specialty rolls. Some of the other fish did not taste very good and specialty rolls come out fat with rice portion. Got to the point I couldn't indulge anymore. Not bad for the ayce for the value if you have the appetite. Other than that my water and tea got refilled without asking and will come back here for a la carte in the future. read more

My go to place for AYCE sushi - and right in my backyard! I've driven by it for years, so for my birthday lunch we finally decided to walk in and give it a try. I'm really glad we did, because everything we ordered was delicious. The Volcano roll, Star Wars roll, and Hot Night roll were the standouts for us, but honestly it felt like every roll was great, so you can't go wrong. The vibe is relaxed and the place is small in a good way. It feels like the staff can keep an eye on everyone without hovering. Our waters never went empty, the food came out quickly, and anytime we needed something they were right there. It made the whole meal feel really easy and laid back. A small drawback is the parking lot. It's tiny and can get pretty cramped, but there's plenty of free street parking around the neighborhood if the lot is full. This is a solid AYCE sushi place. The staff were very attentive and our food came out quick and we were served immediately. Our drinks were filled at all times. We went on a Saturday around 5pm. We were worried about a rush but luckily there wasn't any. There happened to be a bit of a rush at about 5:30 but didn't last long. I think it is due to their speedy service, the table turnaround was quick. The good quality was great! Everything tasted fresh. Any hot food was served hot and the sushi was amazing, Fish to rice ratio was perfect. I got a Jalapeño popper, aka Heart Attack at some other sushi places, and it was the biggest one I have had. The flavors were perfectly balanced. The menu offerings that were not Sushi or rolls on the AYCE were plentiful. The only reason this doesn't get a 5 star is because the variety of rolls was not great. I felt like there were a lot of California Roll types with different toppings. With the huge amounts of salmon sushi we order, the Volcano roll is the perfect balance since it's a no-rice roll. My boyfriend and I was looking for an AYCE sushi spot and came across this on yelp. According to the reviewers, this location has very fresh fish. The pictures of the salmon sushi looks promising so we decided to give it a try. Came when they opened and they were filled up with customers fast. Service was okay. All of the salmon we ordered did not taste fresh. We figured maybe it was the first round we got so we ordered a smaller portion on the next round and still had a very fishy taste and a weird slimy film. Their albacore was good and their yellowtail was very mushy. It had a weird texture to it. Surprisingly their bluefin toro was decent. This was the first location I've been to that applied gratuity for all customers regardless of party size. My go to spot for AYCE! Come here twice a month to feed my sushi cravings. The sushi proportions are perfect, hearty slice of fish atop a bit of rice, best is their yellowtail. The rolls are so good, with a great selection, albacore delight is top 3. When it's only the 2 of us, they give you a half portion, so we can try a couple different ones. I don't really try to fill up on appetizers but love their baked mussels. Staff is nice, never had bad service. During the weekend they get busy, but worth it. It's super crowded together and very loud. Our table was so tiny and the menu takes up a lot of space as well. The place is small and has a typical sushi bat vibe. Service is good as well and it should be noted that parking in strip mall this is located in absolutely sucks (although that does not factor into my scores). DISCLAIMER: I was debating writing this review because the sushi was fresh and delicious...at least in the moment. The next morning, I woke up with nausea and what I believe to be some level of food poisoning :(. However, as eating anything raw comes with risks, you must be prepared on the off, off chance of experiencing what I did, which was general unpleasantness for roughly six hours until I "saw" my food again. That being said, again, I am unsure if it was the fish or the sheer volume of food as again, the food was so good I had round after round, but be warned. Food - 8/10 without my sickness, but an obvious 0/10 with it Again, the sushi *tasted* fresh and clean in the moment, with no fishy aftertaste, and the rolls that I loved (the Laurel Canyon roll and simple tuna roll) didn't have an overwhelming amount of mayo that other places might load up on. Additionally, while not shown, they are generous with their portions of fish for their sushi options, and their no-rice rolls were a hit as well. In fact, my selections looked so good, the couple next to me asked the staff to get them the same selections several times! If it wasn't for the morning after, I would say this would be a must-try amongst AYCE restaurants. Service - 8/10 The servers were always attentive, quick, and efficient, and perhaps the only thing to knock would be that they seem a little understaffed. I went on a Friday around 6:30 PM, and while I was seated immediately, the two chefs and two members of waitstaff seemed to be working at a breakneck pace to keep up with the moderate crowd. That being said, all orders seemed to come out in five to ten minutes, depending on their sizes. Ambience - 7/10 While the location isn't the best in terms of parking, the interior is clean and well-managed, although it feels a little cluttered. My second time coming for AYCE sushi and it's pretty good for the price. The service is quick and the fish quality is pretty good when it comes to the nigiri and the sashimi, specifically the salmon. Yellowtail is also good, but albacore and tuna were a bit tough and dry. The rolls are also decent but they do fill them with a lot of rice and imitation crab mixture which tends to be filling. It's decently priced for the quality of fish, cheaper than other locations in LA. Would come back if I'm in the area but not my favorite, there are other places I prefer in the valley. read more

Worst food poisoning I've ever experienced. This is not the same, fantastically-fresh restaurant that my boyfriend remembered so fondly from past years. Based on other Yelp reviews, as well as my throbbing butthole, The Sushi by Jin has gone beyond downhill and is 6-feet-under status. This seems to have occurred within the last 3-5 months. The menu itself is a red flag. Flip to the very last page to find a small asterisk that discloses: "*Imitation crab used unless otherwise specified". Really? Jin's prices are not cheap--they're about average for Los Angeles--so there's no discount for their processed, filler ingredients. Why is fake food the same price as other LA spots that serve real crab? Since I'm deathly allergic to dairy--ahem, this is what I specify to avoid Mayo or cream cheese--my options were limited. I ordered the Laurel Canyon Roll (tuna, salmon, tilapia with an external layer of avocado and soy paper) and Yellow Tail Sushi. Both of these are fish-focused: no spicy tuna, fake crab (usually spelled 'krab'), nor other additives that would soil the soul of sushi. Alack, therein laid my blunder. By selecting fish-centric items (with the false notion that this was a reputable--or at least edible--restaurant), I sealed my own fate. After my Saturday evening dinner-splurge, I awoke shortly before 1AM with piercing stomach pains. After 5-10 minutes of bedsheet flailing, I screamed at the Jin-recommending boyfriend, "GRAB ME A BOWL, I'M GOING TO THROW UP". Throw up I did. And not just piles of bile that suddenly spattered across the carpet, but also regurgitated mounds that filled the finally-fetched kitchen bowl and required it be emptied twice. I finally passed out not from relief but exhaustion...only to awake around 6AM in the same cold sweats. My journey to hell was far from over. Now, toxins ruthlessly spewed out the other end. Imagine splurting spicy tomato soup out your rectum and into the toilet while your insides are twisted with a dagger--and all after vomiting everything you thought you had left within. Oh no my friends, this spoilage will make you spew insides you didn't even know existed. Perhaps others are more accustomed to food poisoning, but I'm relatively new to this "transformative experience". Seriously, read multiple recent reviews. I wish they BEGAN with the mention of food poisoning rather than waiting until a few paragraphs in; I wish I had known. Hopefully, this post helps saves you and your internal organs. But if you enjoy excreting food from both ends on your Saturday night before retreating to the fetal position all day Sunday, then The Sushi by Jin is for you. Came here a couple weeks ago on a Sunday, didn't wait long. The sushi quality is overall okay and good for AYCE. The employees really hustle to get you your order quickly and that's much appreciated! The reason for 3 stars is that the quality just isn't there for the price. Inflation has definitely affected things and I understand operating as a business is more difficult during these times, but for $37 the quality is just like your normal ayce place, not great but not bad. Additionally they were out of some of the premium options. If the premium selections had less of a limit I could see it being worth the price. read more

We came here on a Sunday around 4pm, before the dinner rushes. As we entered, we were immediately greeted by all the chefs as well as the server. Then we were seated and asked whether we were eating from the menu or opting for the AYCE. After stating the later option, we were given the menu as well as the ordering form with a pen to mark. There are three rounds available. We like to order a heavy first round, and we were glad we did so. Our first wave of food was super impressive and very delicious. Our second and third was not as much so, and possibly due to having a different chef make the food, differing from the first round. All in all, the food was good. The service was awesome. The restaurant was clean. The seats.... Hard. If you want a soft seat, bring a cushion. Give it a try, it was good. We'd come back again. Just note that it is on the pricier side than most others, but then again, the quality is the price, so they are in-line. Recommend trying the Superman roll. For no-rice rolls, try the Avengers, it's gigantic and super delicious and creamy. For appetizer, get the Jalapeño Poppers. The Crispy Rice was good too. Anything with the freshwater eel, as long as it's baked enough and has a nice char, it's going to be delicious, but some of the orders we got were just warm and it was just ok, hit-or-miss. read more

We went here for dinner last night and while it started out pretty good, it was all downhill from there. We got there around 630 and there was a wait for a table. It took us about 20 minutes or so to get seated. Parking is a nightmare there so we ended up parking next door at the mattress store (which was closed) and luckily didn't get a ticket or towed. We ordered a bunch of stuff for the first round, including some appetizers, no rice rolls, rolls, hand rolls and nigiri. The garlic edamame was really good as was the crispy rice with spicy tuna. We ordered 2 no rice rolls but were given 4. When we told the waitress that we didn't order 2 of the rolls, she took the plate. I then saw her giving the same exact plate of sushi that had been on our table to the table behind us (the people who had actually ordered it). This struck me as super unhygienic and started the downhill slide of the night. The rolls we got were pretty good but we never got the eel nigiri we ordered in the first round despite asking about it multiple times. The tuna and albacore nigiri were tough and seemed to be poor quality. The second round we ordered all "premium" items, including halibut, snow crab, salmon sashimi, tuna tataki, and toro. The snow crab was fine but everything else was bad to awful. The salmon sashimi was tough, some of the halibut was so chewy we had to spit it out, the tuna tataki had a horrible flavor, and the toro was just disgusting. After forcing ourselves to finish this so we wouldn't get charged, we felt done because the food was so unappetizing. Service was constantly slow throughout the night and we had multiple times where we had to ask where our orders were because other tables were getting multiple plates of food and we seemed to be forgotten. The worst part was the food gave us food poisoning and we were both sick from it. I've felt sick all day and know it was from the sushi here. I will never come back here because of how horrible an experience it was. Go to Midori if you're wanting ayce sushi. I've never had a bad meal there and the service there couldn't be friendlier or better. read more
