I've had great experiences getting sugared here. It does hurt, but it's very quick. The pain lasts only for a second or two before it immediately subsides. The sugarista that worked on me, Sindy, is a total professional. She would place her hand right where the hair was removed, putting pressure on the spot, which lessens the pain even quicker. She is very nice and was so comforting my first time. The entire staff are accommodating, and the facilities are clean and well-kept. The results are great; the area has much less and thinner growth than with shaving, and it lasts much longer. I've been here three times so far, and plan to make this a regular thing. I hadn't gotten a Brazilian in about a decade so i was pretty nervous. Ashley was wonderful throughout the whole thing and i totally felt like i was in good hands. I got waxed for a vacation on Friday. My trip is tomorrow, which is Monday. When i was in on Friday, when I was all done she said "you have a little bruising on the left side but it'll go away within 24 hours." It did not. It's still here and it's very red and raw. I paid a decent amount of money and tip.. i didn't mind spending it but now going on my trip i have a huge raw area on my bikini line. I used to go here but over the last six months, their practices have gotten kind of sketchy/unsafe. I used to see Tatiana O. She quit. I now see her at her midtown location. But when I made my appointment, I could still book her and when I arrived, they re-booked me with someone else. This has happened twice. The woman who did my first appointment said Tatiana was in a car accident and went back to Russia. I told Tatiana this when I did an appointment at Tatiana's new location and she said these were lies. So Sugaring NYC is booking under someone who doesn't work there (because Tatiana had many regulars). Also. When I've inquired on what licensing the new people had, I got weird answers and wasn't able to find them when I searched online. Which suggests they are given fake licenses and aren't qualified to practice. Some of the services require health and safety education and that's super scary and unsafe that they would do this. I've tried sugaring and regular waxing on and off for years but never stuck with it, because I am a HUGE baby with no pain tolerance. However! I think I've finally found a groove with an amazing esthetician Corina. Not only is she super efficient and professional, she is such a genuinely kind and patient person. I've only done waxing 1 time prior to my visit at Sugaring Nyc, and it was at EWC two years ago so my expectations were that it was still going to hurt like a b*tch but worth it because "sugaring is better than hard wax". I ended up at this location because every other location was booked. When I walked in I only waited 5 minutes before being taken in by the sugarist. Now when I first walked into the room I was thrown off because I was expecting a room that looked similar to EWC, instead there was a flimsy paper on the fold bed and hairs on the floor clearly visible but I was already here so I disregarded this. As for my sugarist, I wish I had just waited a couple days and booked with someone else. She started on my Brazilian first, I told her it was basically my first time again and for whatever reason she decided to put the wax on the most sensitive area first! (the lip) without warning she kept tugging and was moving so fast I didn't have time to breath! Now for some people moving fast is better because that means it's over with quicker? WRONG she kept having to put sugar on the same area multiple times (literally like 5 times on the same exact spot)!! I was in so much pain I was ready to leave but I still had to get my legs done. She started with my left leg then did one strip on my right leg then started rubbing lotion on me? I stopped her right away and asked her "what about the rest of my leg?" She had left 90% of my right leg hairy!!! She apologized and said "I'm moving so fast I completely forgot" I wasn't sure if she had somewhere to be but this was not the service I was expecting at allllll. On top of all this pain she somehow managed to keep getting large chunks of sugar stuck on my ankles, she kept yanking on it trying to get it off and this happened on my labia as well, as soon as she said she was done I got out of there as soon as I could and regardless of everything I paid and tipped. Now when I got home I couldn't believe what my results were. After comfortably checking my body in my home, my labia MINORA was bruised!!! She had put the sugar over my labia minora and tugged on it multiple times! My boyfriend said it looked like I was about to bleed from the area, I was horrified! It hurt so much to even touch the area!!! And as for my legs the right one had hair all over my calves!! And even the butt strip was basically as if she rushed it without actually getting any hairs. So this is a first for me! I have never gotten a bikini wax let alone been sugared. Came to Sugaring NYC since the reviews were good and a friend of mine raved about them. So I got a full leg service and a Brazilian. (Clearly I'm a masochist). Definetly less pain then traditional waxing tho. The Brazilian was fucking ridiculous and very thorough!!! (Shout out to women who get that shit like clock work!) They clean you off before and powder then after the service clean you again. They also they have trainings here so there's opportunity for you to get a free wax or discounted wax if you are frugal and or broke. (Salonapprentice.com thank me later). The trainers are great and so are the students :) Thank you Tatiana you did amazing! You need to respond promptly and be open to the time slot they need on said day. The services I received needed about 3 hours to complete. They are extremely clean here and that is a huge plus for me. They use gloves for everything and sanize their hands before they touch anything. FWY: They have 3 different types of wax for different areas of the body. Full legs are $80, and Brazilian is $60. The prices start at $10 and go up to $260 (Full body w Brazilian & Face). Eyebrows are $20. They do lashes and lash lifts here as well. They do use powder, not sure if its talc but it comes off when they wax so I'm not too concerned. CLEAN YOURSELF if you are getting a Brazilian or any lower half service its just polite and no one wants to smell that while working. THEY REALLY GET IN THERE AND YOU WILL BE OPEN! I've had a good experience and a bad experience here but once you get a hold of customer service they're pretty good. I've been a long time waxer and my first experience with sugaring made me a believer. I have lots of ingrowns and very sensitive skin so when I went to Heather for the first time I was sold. Sugaring gets finer tiny hairs for a cleaner look and is less painful. My skin was only slightly irritated afterwards (except my face but I should have know not to try to do anything new on my face). This is a win for me! Then last month a had a horrifying experience. I was supposed to see heather but apparently she quit so I picked another girl with pretty good reviews (I really didn't want a new person because of how my skin is and I was going on my bachelorette that weekend). I get there and I am not told that the person I picked was not there. I'm halfway through my legs when I realize that this girl is brand new. Okay I'm all for learning and my skins tough so it will be a good learning experience for her. When she's done with my legs I see that there's still a LOT of hair on my legs and she says she doesn't see it. I asked her to call someone in (which I really really hate doing) and Ashley the lead showed her how to do it and explained why my skin is a little different. Then Ashley left (I'm sure she had other clients) and I was in the room with this girl for another 1.5 hours just to get my arms and underarms waxed. I made up and excuse to skip my Brazilian and my face because I didn't want to mess with sensitive areas with someone whose not confident with what they're doing. When she's done I still have hair everywhere and I am completely sticky everywhere. I was given a 25% discount with is great but I was furious that I was not told ahead of time that they had assigned me with a new hire. I felt uncomfortable and blindsided. She was nice and I really didn't want to make her feel bad so I paid and I left. But when I found bruises all over my legs when I got home (not to mention I had to go through the pain and time of epilating everything that was left behind) I had to contact customer service. Daria the owner emails a generic email after every appointment and says to email with any concerns (my main concern was that you can't throw someone unknowingly in a room with someone whose new and I wanted to make sure they knew that this is not okay). 2 weeks later I never got a response so I posted my angry 1 star review explaining what happened to me and my experience with customer service on here and I get a call in literally 30 seconds. She was nice and reassured me and gave me a discount to come back. Maybe they didn't get my email (questionable) but it was definitely felt a lot harder to get a hold of customer service that they say it is. I just had my follow up with Ashley (this time for the wedding and honeymoon). It was literally the BEST hair removal experience I have ever had. Unfortunately she is also leaving. I'm sorry but all the sugarers are not the same. Some have far superior technique. I'm sure it takes time and practice to perfect the skill but please make sure you read review of the person you're going to before you go. Unfortunately it seems like this location specifically is losing all their good people. TLDR - sugaring can be life changing if you have the right person doing it, do not let them switch your person on you without telling you, not sure if I'll come back here (since Ashley is leaving :() but may try another more established location? I've been going to sugaring since 2010 at the 5th Ave location. Unfortunately I couldn't make it there being that I had things to do so I decided to go to the one near union square. Natasha P very sweet but the job was horrible. It was very rushed so hairs were broken and now I have peach fuzz when I am now returning after 4 weeks. Longer the hair the better but the speed of her motion is why the hairs are breaking. It supposed to be 30 min and I was out in 10 minutes. It's is what I get for not sticking to regulars. read more

This is legitimately my first ever Yelp review and I felt the need to write it right now, because I just got off the phone with Sugaring NYC and will never IN MY LIFE go back here for any fucking service. I'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to service providers but Sugaring NYC has pushed me over the mf edge. First, their employees don't fucking show up and they will tell you TWO hours before your appointment that you will need to reschedule (this has happened to me four times). You end up having to move your entire schedule for this because OF COURSE there is no availability within the entire WEEK. Like it's YOUR fault you have to wait even longer to get waxed, even though their employees will scold you if you don't get your wax within the recommended 4-6 weeks (this actually happened to me). I had to come in at 8:30pm last month for my vacation to get a wax before my early morning flight because it was the last spot left when my original appointment was for the week before. Then they will book you with someone OTHER than who you wanted, with questionable licensure like other Yelpers have stated. The constant employee no-show has happened to me four times. One time, one of the sugaristas went uptown when she knew she had an appointment with me. WHY? No idea! I was already on the way there and they waited until the last minute to call me to tell me "she wasn't in". When I scheduled my appointment the week before. So I'm fuming by this point and asking why they didn't call me sooner and when she will be back. They didn't know. They pushed my appointment back even further. I got there and ended up waiting another THIRTY MINUTES (politely, when I should have been cussing everybody and they moms out by this point) and the receptionist ended up randomly doing it because the sugarist didn't show up until I was almost already done. No apology, no discount. I didn't tip, and was not sorry about it. This is the most unprofessional grooming/wax place I have EVER been to, and I've been to European Wax Center. One of their Sugarist convinced me to tip her on Ca$happ and even when I gave her a tip (under the TABLE like some criminals), she still requested even more money from me on my personal Ca$happ hours after I left the appointment. I denied the request and blocked her! I will never again spend a cent here, I don't care. Because THEY don't care. They will wait until you get there to pull all kinds of shit OR they will wait until it's within an hour of your appointment when you are already on the way and I'm not standing for it anymore. The sugaring process isn't even that great: they will leave all kinds of little hairs and tell you that they're supposed to be there. I pay for a whole Brazilian, and it's NEVER a clean job. If I could give zero stars, I really would! Only thing... 2 things are that Sugaring is typically not painful though when she did the twirling thing to get all the hairs out it was a bit uncomfortable but nothing unbearable. The other is with the brazilian I noticed after I was done that there were alot of very noticeable and long hairs that had not been removed. Hate it when I'm done and that happens. After a bad experience with a different Sugaring NYC location last summer, I decided to give the brand another try and this location a try due to their free underarm promo. I came here for two sugaring service towards the end of June. The first was the bikini area with a trainee. She did a phenomenal and professional job, especially for her very first time! The lady that was training her however was rather unprofessional. She did not bother asking me if I wanted her to get my ingrowns out and just proceeded to take them out (I didn't want to bleed out anywhere...), even making unnecessary comments like "that was almost as long as your head hair". Any respect I had for her was pretty much lost by the end of the session, due to this factor. Is it too hard to ask that when getting such personal services, that if you cannot say something good about another, just don't say anything at all? I had a new hire (she had finished her training two weeks earlier and was now a full time) do my underarms. Unfortunately, she missed tons of hair that I know could have been removed. So after about a week (around 4th of July), I didn't want to wear sleeveless clothes because the hair was already so visible. How can I claim to know? Because I've been getting sugared every month for the past three and a half years in different places across the States using different sugaring brand (i.e. Alexandria, Sugar Mama's, etc.). This was one of the few negative experiences I have had with sugaring, ever. I don't feel cheated out of my money since I only had to pay tips and a discounted price for one service, but I am glad I got the promo because I would have hated to pay the full price for such a negative experience. Since my hair was well over 1/8 of an inch, yet the sugarist was unable to get it, I do feel that Sugaring NYC wax is not great. Regardless of the locations I've tried, the staff always say they cannot get the smaller hairs (which again, other brand waxes have been capable of getting). Maybe I was unlucky with the person I got, but definitely something is up with the sugar also. All in all, I will be taking my business to Sugar + Bronzed and Shobha, both of which are slightly more expensive but provide superb customer service and quality. read more

My bikini wax was affordable but that was about the only good thing about the service. I decided to give this place a shot despite some very fair warnings in reviews, especially since I was looking for a place that could specifically do ingrown extraction services. Day of the appointment, I was called and informed that my original esthetician (Parminder) was not available. I requested the specific person who was certified to do extractions (Corina) and had to move my appointment two and a half hours after the original time. I should have heeded the warnings and believed them before keeping the appointment, because when I got there I was bait and switched AGAIN and told that Corina was "running late" despite being told upon check in that she'd "be with me shortly" and I would have to go with yet another esthetician. Not only was I not able to get the ingrown extraction I originally came here for but the job I did get was so patchy and half of the hairs weren't even removed fully from the root so I will have to shave again in a couple days. TL;DR - This place seems to be notorious for bait and switching their clients and giving sub par services. Heed the warnings here on Yelp and don't bother. read more

This is my second post. This post is in regards to the sugaring location on 14th street union Square. The service there from staff is always welcoming and very friendly along with professionalism. My biggest concern is the safety of the ladies that work there and the customers. I'm suggesting to whomever is owner of this establishment that you all should hire security at the location and also there should be a buzzer to let in customers in. That area is pretty nice but there is a lot of mentally disturbed people close to that particular establishment. I have witness a few things coming in and around the location. I don't want to relocate to be sugared but this is a major concern for the ladies and customers that have to be undress for hair removal. Doors should be locked at the establishment just because anyone can just force themselves in or into the rooms. To the owner please consider this. We are living in not so great times in public. Sugaring NYC always had prevention methods in place long before COVID where the wax is never reused on other clients, clean disposable sheets on the treatment bed, gloves are always used, and Estheticians wore masks. I loved my session and enjoyed having someone else remove my unwanted hair. I will definitely be back monthly again, as long as COVID numbers do not spike in NYC again. I always visit the Union Square location because it's easier for me to travel to. I love the experience here and the staff are super friendly and nice. The girl was nice but I had a feeling she was not experienced as I was bleeding by the end and I had red bumps for several days. Would post pics but obvi not going to show the world my goods (plus I think yelp, or my mother for that matter, would not appreciate it...) I will say she was super nice and could was empathetic. I've had two sugaring appointments at this location, both times with ALITA as my esthetician. I got a full Brazilian both times and was very pleased with the results. What I like most about the sugaring experience is that it does not leave a sticky feeling like wax and it is less abrasive. I went back for my second sugaring in 4 weeks and there was barely anything to remove. Each time Alita was professional, personal, and as gentle as one can be for such a process. I enjoy getting to know her through small talk, and I appreciate not feeling self conscious while she completes the sugaring process. I hope that she remains with the establishment because as long as she does, I'll continue to be a regular customer. My appointment was booked in advance and for me as a mother it takes a whole to do (have to get a sitter for my child, make a certain adjustments in my work schedule) to make time for such events. In the morning of my appointment (I was literary one foot out of the door) the receptionist from the Union square location called me and informed that my appointment is canceled because my esthetician called in sick the same morning she was supposed to be at work.
