We hadn't been to Roma in quite a while, so we were thrilled to come back tonight--and it did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived, the owners and staff were gracious, welcoming, and attentive. The food was fantastic. We especially enjoyed the crisp, fresh Caesar salad, the veal piccata, and the garlic knots served with their delicious homemade sauce. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. It was wonderful to return and be reminded of what makes Roma so special. We have driven by this place countless times, and never stopped...shame on us! It's a pretty small place, but comfortable spacing, atmosphere was very good, and staff were all very friendly and attentive. We ordered the calamari and bruschetta for appetizers and we were asked if we wanted the free garlic knots (BIG MISTAKE) The calamari were good especially because my husband and son prefer the rings and the whole plate were rings. My mother had never had them before (we didn't tell her what they were) and she also thoroughly enjoyed them. The bruschetta was ok; it was very different than I'm used to because it had tiny mozzarella balls in it, which were nice, but seriously lacked garlic and the tomatoes were blah. The thing I like about the most were the slices of bread around the bruschetta because they were soft and crunchy in all the right places. Those garlic knots on the other hand are trouble ...the dough was so fresh and had so much flavor, I ate 2 of them and couldn't really eat my entree, but they were incredibly worth every bite! For our entrees I ordered penne alla vodka (I wish the made it with rigatoni. I thought it was ok. It seems too thick and not as good as I've had elsewhere, but maybe I was too full already because my husband thought it was very good. My husband had eggplant Parmesan which was a very nice portion and cooked perfectly. My mother had a cheese calzone which was probably the biggest and nicest cook on one I've ever seen and she really enjoyed it. My son had sausage and peppers and he really like it even though he doesn't generally like red sauce, but the sauce that came with garlic knots and calamari was all the same, and he loved it. The only thing he wasn't thrilled with was the sausage were all sliced. We all expected to have whole links, but they were thinly sliced longways. I sat at the bar for about 10 min before someone asked me "if I was picking up an order" or "if I was placing an order." Service could be better. Nobody was in the restaurant. I think 2 tables inside and 1 table outside. Ambiance was pretty cool. I ordered the chicken florentino which was a chicken breast with a demi glaze sage sauce, topped with mushrooms, & mozzarella cheese and mashed potatoes. The food was really good. His approach always sounds harsh, cold and disingenuous and as an owner he's never willing to work on a solution to any concern whether it's the loud music ( to the point that you've to yell across the table to be heard all night) seating, service, food etc. It's ALWAYS his way or the highway... If you have kids or a birthday do not go to this restaurant! My in-laws have been regular customers of this restaurant for years and recently, seven adults and two children, ages seven and five, went here to celebrate my mother in-laws 85th birthday. To be fair, the restaurant told my wife that they do not allow birthday cakes at the restaurant, but she had already purchased six cupcakes from a special needs bakery and brought them to the dinner. After we ate, my wife was told that if we ate the cupcakes, there would be a $2 charge for each person at our table including the two children. Although, only three people ate one of this cupcakes, we were originally charged $18 for eating the cupcakes. My wife argued the charge and they did adjust the charges but to say this entire event was ruined by the restaurants policies and unwillingness to accommodate a regular customer on her 85th birthday, despite there being only three other customers in the restaurant is an understatement! Also, we ordered spaghetti and meatballs for the kids and asked for an extra plate so we could split it between them. This was done but when we received the bill, there was an additional charge of $6.50 for sharing a meal! This was half the price of the full meal. Each of the seven adults agreed that we would never come to this restaurant again and I have made a point to relay this story to everyone I work with and have encouraged them to also choose another restaurant if they want to celebrate a birthday or if they have kids! read more

Dropped in for a late dinner for four, starving from a day of roaming ATL before heading back home. Walking in, the air was filled with garlic and some kind of seafood that instantly set mouths watering. A couple of minutes later we were seated at a cozy table and pouring over the menu. Our server was amazingly friendly and helpful. She let us known they make pretty much everything to order so customization for allergies and preferences were not a problem, which as someone who loves other seafood but cannot eat shrimp was an exciting opening of possibilities. As a group we typically over order and share and this was definitely no different. We got four starters to share: fried zucchini, fried calamari, fried shrimp, and the chicken parm balls that were on special. Everything came out hot and delicious, with sides of one of the best marinara sauces I've had. The breading was light and crispy, the zucchini was buttery and bright, the calamari tender with just the right amount of seasoning, and the chicken parm balls... THE CHICKEN PARM BALLS. If they're on menu, get them. Moist and flavorful with a cheese pull to dream about. The shrimp were large (I was told they were delicious). Add some garlic knots and more marinara and we had to stop ourselves from polishing off those plates before entrees came out. Sad, but they were gracious enough to pack up our leftovers and keep them warm in the kitchen while we finished. On the Mains... oh the mains.... Frutti di mare..... muscles and fresh clams and the most tender calamari you can imagine in a sauce full of chopped garlic and tomato and, I don't know, love from whoever was making it in the kitchen. They were able to remove the shrimp completely to accommodate my allergy, and one of my friends got the same bit with giant shrimp. Thick seafood goodness covering well cooked linguine and a side of toasty garlic bread.... I didn't want to stop but it was a long drive home. Will definitely be back for this dish alone. The other two mains were carbonara and stuffed shells. If I could post the photos of everyone's face after eating it would do more justice than anything I could write here. Everything tasted fresh and lovely. Again they were lovely enough to box up the huge amount of leftovers for our drive home. I'm sure they fully expected us to say no to dessert and coffee menus but we don't back down from a challenge. Two to-go tiramisu (will be devouring mine today), a cappuccino that was smooth and topped with the best smelling cinnamon, and a chocolate dessert... tartufa?? Chocolate zabaione maybe? With an almond flavored center covered in delicious cocoa powder( how can cocoa powder taste good you may ask, can't tell you but it was) that we devoured. Pants were loosened upon leaving. We found out from chatting with our server that she and her dad own and run the restaurant, and were shocked they don't stay busier. We saw they do half priced apps for happy hour Fridays and are already planning a trip back to try some of their sangria and other drinks. And maybe a wood fired pizza, because mercy they looked good. GO. EAT. ENJOY. They very clearly are trying to create a comfortable homey environment with fresh food, and they're killing it. It's hard for me to believe that I'm writing a bad review to what has been one of my favorite authentic Italian restaurants for 10 years. Their food is amazing and the service is always good. Tonight, myself and my date had a reservation at 5:30. The restaurant wasn't crazy busy yet, and when the host (Owner) tried to sit us in the middle of the restaurant, we requested that we could be on the sidelines. He literally rolled his eyes and let us go against the wall close by to the kitchen. We were good with this. Things get worse . . . . at about 6:55 as we were enjoying our coffee and tea, he came to us and said that a large party was coming in the next few minutes and they needed our table to add to the other tables that they had pulled together. He just basically said, sorry we need this table, you're going to have to go. His attitude was nothing short of rude and "snotty". Then, he came back at 7:00 as we hadn't left yet and said, "Never mind, their party is smaller than they reserved". We're not kids, and we dine at fine restaurants all over Atlanta. I have to say, I've never experienced anything like this treatment before tonight, and hope never to experience anything like this again. As with anyone within the group who's getting older, there comes with it a dinner of the birthday person's choice. This was his favorite Italian spot. And so, here we are celebrating his 35th. When we entered the restaurant, the staff seemed not busy at all standing around looking at our growing party. It was just an odd sight looking at them looking at us like they've never seen a bunch of Asians before. Yeah. Just a random feeling and observation. The hubs had the veal picatta while I had the chicken spinach shells. And by the way, the complimentary bread was oh so good. The knots were fluffy, warm, and came with a tomato dipping sauce. The hubs really liked his veal picatta as he said the white wine lemon sauce was really good. The artichokes and capers were different and worked well with the thin veal giving it additional textures and flavors. I thoroughly enjoyed sampling from his plate. My choice of the chicken spinach shells was the most unique from the menu. There was chicken surrounded by spinach, ricotta, parmigiano, and mozzarella stuffed into 4 huge shells. The tomato cream sauce was really good. I'm not a fan of tomato sauces bc it can be tart or acidic, but this one was creamy and tasty. Both our picks were solid choices. The service was good. The price was pretty okay for a nice Italian spot. My fillet was cooked medium and placed on top of fluffy mound of mashed potatoes that was topped with capers, steamed asparagus, and diced tomatoes. I offered to take my mother out to lunch today and her request was Italian so I immediately thought of this place. Your lunch comes with a couple of garlic rolls and tomato sauce. The rolls were just ok and the sauce was just room temperature. I had the Linguini with White Clam Sauce and there were lots of clams. I put a lot of crushed red pepper and parmesan cheese on mine and it made it very good. My mom said that the Eggplant Parmesan sandwich that she had was very good. I wish that the meal would have come with a small salad. I guess you could say that it was only $13 for my entree, but, I think that the salad would have really helped considerably. read more

We got the bruschetta, two Caesar salads, a sausage and onion pizza, and the penne Al Romano. All was fantastic! My one recommendation is to ask for white onion on the pizza. We just said "onion" and they gave up red onion and I think white onion goes better with sausage. Just being nitpicky. The garlic knots are complimentary but they only bring you one per person. Definitely not enough. We asked for more and they only brought us one more per person.
