My girlfriend and I have been to regular dining experiences but we attended the vegetarian prix fixe dining event and it was spectacular. The food was both thoughtful and innovative - The Chef, Ricardo, put in an incredible amount of effort in his dishes taking into consideration the texture, flavour profile, and made sure to add some seasonal influence with it being Autumn. Food Courses: * Cauliflower Picatta - My girlfriend loved this. I thought it was well done and the chef's explanation behind it really enhanced the experienced as he went through the process of creating it in both his mind and in practice. Personally didn't think butter and cauliflower would go well together but it tasted great. * Butternut Squash Agnolotti - The highlight of my night. This was fantastic and most of the other folks that were dining agreed. The agnolotti was sweet and the toasted pumpkin seeds were a fantastic touch. Chef Ricardo, if you're reading this, THIS is the one you should add to the menu :) * Spaghetti & Meatballs - This was a unique dish in that the meatball was made with mushrooms and dates among other things. I personally am not a fan of dates but it still tasted great alongside the spaghetti. It was a contrasting dish from the previous so it served well to be third on the menu. * Watermelon Steak - Honestly, this was the dish that intrigued me the most on the menu but ended up being my least favourite. Maybe it's me being vegetarian all of my life, but the flavors and seasoning reminded me of meat a little bit and my girlfriend, who isn't a vegetarian, also agreed. Though the folks around me enjoyed it so maybe it is me being picky. * Pumpkin Cheesecake - Everyone loved it, there's not too much to say on this one. Sugo has been around for as long as I can remember; however, I recently came back to try the restaurant after many years. We ordered a few of the pasta dishes and they were tasty. Service is attentive and despite being busy it was handled very well. Personally I thought the food was good but I wasn't as impressed as some other pasta restaurants I've tried over the years at this price point. We came here last night for a celebratory dinner after not seeing each other for months. Sugo is always, ALWAYS on top of their game and last night being as busy as it was, still came through. Our server, Reese, was relatively new and you couldn't tell. She knew the menu for recommendations, some drinks that were popular, and we never wanted for anything. Super pleasant! We started with a robust three apps. Mialino flatbread (how does it stay so crispy and thin?), calamari, and the Brussels Sprouts. Just perfection. For entrees, my friends got the shrimp scampi which has a kick to it, and the special blackened chicken with pasta. I was pretty full, but went with my usual cannelloni. Perfect size, delicious! I came here for a birthday dinner for a friend! We made reservations and since we had a large party, we had a private room. Our service was really fantastic, the host was very knowledgeable and friendly and our wait staff were very quick. I had an Old Fashioned which was great. For appetizers, we had calamari and the Greek Flatbread along with the bread baskets. The calamari was delicious and the sauce had a good kick to it. The flatbread was PHENOMENAL and our host made sure to point out the crust is so thin you can see light through it! The bread too was really good. For dinner, I had the orecchiette which came with sausage, broccolini, and mushrooms in a cream sauce. It was SO YUMMY and good portion size (I had just a liiitle bit left over for lunch the next day). PARKING Sugo is at the end of a plaza and has a private parking lot with a fair amount of free available spaces. II. SERVICE Could use some work, but seeing the owner walking from table to table made it a better experience. Learning he also owns the Iberian Pig Restaurant made it an honor to see him successfully hustling. Also, don't forget to ASK for the complimentary bread or they won't serve it. III. Overall, I had a pleasant Italian dinner experience at Sugo. The vibe is great, and our server was extremely friendly and took care of us well. Appetizers. - Calamari fritti: calamari was crispy and the coating was seasoned just right. My family and I also really enjoyed the small amount of fried pepper that was tossed in as well. - Arancini: this was probably my favourite. I absolutely loved the creamy risotto inside the fried dough and the basil aioli with honey was phenomenal. Mains. - Shrimp scampi: this was what I anticipated the most, but quite frankly, it was disappointing. The pasta noodles were clumped together a lot, and the lemon's sourness was too overpowering. Other than the sourness, it felt pretty flavourless. However, there was a generous amount of shrimp and vegetables like tomato. - Branzino: this is a sea bass dish. Overall, I wasn't impressed. The couscous seemed overcooked as well, but it was still flavourful, and I liked it much better than the fish. - Braised veal: the marsala sauce, polenta, and the meat blended so well, and I would say this was my top out of the mains. If you like sweet and savoury, I would highly recommend this dish. Solely based on the food, I would give 3 stars. But with the service, I say 4. It's been a while since we've actually eaten in the restaurant, but we've ordered a few times in the postpartum months, and it's been great! Took my mother and family here for her birthday tonight and it absolutely did NOT disappoint. From the ease of making our online reservation for 6, to being promptly and politely greeted when we entered the doors, to our wonderful server, Brittney! Everything was perfect. My parents tend to be very picky about where they eat out, so I had to trust the high reviews here on a leap of faith. But as usual Yelp and reviewers were super helpful. We ordered several apps- the meatballs, cheese (buratta?) bacon covered dates & calamari. All of that was delicious! For entrees we had the hanger steak, meatballs and spaghetti, shrimp scampi, salmon, plain pasta and cannelloni. Everyone loved their choices! For dessert we had the tiramisu and cannoli. And they brought out a gorgeous platter that said Happy Birthday on it with a candle. It was so chic and absolutely perfect for my mother's 74th. This place is definitely worth the hype! I'm a huge fan of Italian food and after living in Johns creek for so long, I decided to give this place a try. I stopped by on Friday with a friend and I definitely recommend to put in a reservation so you can avoid the long wait times. We ordered the Aracini to start off with which was delicious. Even though it was fried, it was very light and the sauce paired well with it. For the main, I went with the Shrimp Scampi and for the price, got a decent amount of shrimp. The scampi overall was really light and refreshing and not spicy at all. The quantity was enough for one serving and I was not able to finish it. The ambiance of the place was on the high scale end, and our server was super friendly. In addition, the manager checked on us to make sure everything was good. We visited Sugo as a party of four on a Friday night. We did have reservations and the hostesses were very nice. We started out at the bar whilst we waited for our friends. I had a lemon drop martini (two actually!) and my husband had a Lagavulin (scotch). The drinks were perfect. The bartender (didn't catch her name and it wasn't on the check) was talkative and funny. When we were all finished with our drinks, we were seated in the dining room and Zoe was our server. She was great! She engaged in conversation with us and was helpful in regards to questions on the menu. I had been craving chicken parmigiana but they only had eggplant parmigiana on the menu. She said that was no problem, that the kitchen would be able to make that for me! We started with an order of Bocconcini, which are basically crispy mozzarella balls with a spicy arrabbiata sauce. They were very tasty!! As mentioned, I ordered the chicken parmigiana and my husband got a Greek salad. Both were delicious. I would have preferred the parm to be a little crispier, but I wasn't mad. The taste was there!! To finish off, we had the best chocolate mousse I've had in a long time! It had a wonderful hazelnut crunch on top that was amazing! Honestly, I don't remember what my friends had (two lemon drops, remember!?) but they enjoyed their meals very much. I know they finished with the tiramisu which was also delicious!! My bolognese had watery sauce with diced tomato from the can, Wine at $45 for three glasses, and not all wines on the menu, never showed us the label, authentic Italians, like me, are insulted by this chef. Unfortunately my family had a poor experience at Sugo and they basically have said they never want to go back. It feels like most of the blame is on me because I was eager to have Italian food and I have dined at other restaurant owned by the same hospitality group and was hyping them up. The Good: I actually enjoyed our appetizers. We ordered several for the table- Calamari Fritti, Bruschetta, Greek Flatbread, and the Classico Salad. I personally thought they were all delicious and I would order and eat them all again. I will note that the Greek flatbread was incredibly thin, so much so that my dad wondered if it had been made using a tortilla. I still thought it tasted great though. Also, our server was very nice. The Bad: Basically, everything else, especially the entrees. We had a 6 pm seating time on a Saturday and the place was deafeningly loud- not because of music or anything (I actually don't think there was any) but something about the acoustics in the restaurant make it impossible to hear anybody who isn't directly across from you. I was on the opposite side of the table of 6 from my brother and we had to shout to hear each other. My dad just gave up on trying to hear anything and was just annoyed the whole time. Our appetizers were brought out one at a time, with the time in between rounds getting longer and longer. It was an hour and a half before we received our Classico salad, which we had been intending to split as a table, and the server apologized profusely and explained that the salad had been given to the wrong table, so they brought us a second one for free. Also, despite our server assuring us that the apps were a good size, they would have been best shared for 4 or less people- with our party of 6 the apps were reduced to a tasting menu by necessity. There simply was not enough to go around for everyone. Our entrees came even later and the only people who liked their food were my husband and my mother. My husband said his cannelloni was fine, just not his favorite thing ever, and my mom had no complaints with her Frutti di Mare (however, from my observation, the dish was mostly mussels, and I don't think she got all of the types of seafood that are listed in the menu description). Also, the entree that both my sister in law and I had selected (the veal ravioli) was apparently 86'd so our server brought us a menu and asked us to pick new ones. I was actually incredibly disappointed because I had looked at the menu several days ahead of time and had been looking forward to it. My SIL picked the eggplant Parmesan and I picked the Aunt Lena's Chicken. My brother and his wife split their entrees (cannelloni and eggplant parm) and both of them did not like their entrees at all. They found the eggplant parm to be inedible (to be polite) and basically did not touch the dish at all. They did eat most of their cannelloni but said it was mostly cheese and very little meat. My Aunt Lena's Chicken was not great. The chicken part was a basically a whole fried breast, and I basically only ate that. It was served with some pasta in a pink sauce (on the menu as "pink cream sherry sauce") that was cold and tasted canned. I ate maybe 3 pasta pieces before leaving the rest. Additionally, the whole thing was plated on a bed of raw baby spinach, so the spinach underneath was wilted and a tuft of spinach that was peeking out was still raw and fluffy (as you would find in a salad). I mean come on, pick one- if the spinach is intended to be wilted go ahead and actually saute it and cook it but to just throw hot food on top of spinach to make it wilt and call it a day is lazy, or just serve it as a spinach side salad. We ordered a few drinks as well, my dad got a Sicilian Spice and didn't like it, my husband got the Island Export mocktail and liked it so much he had 2, and I got the For Your Health mocktail which was very small compared to my husband's drink and got warm quickly. If I could drink I would have gotten the sangria but alas. To give an idea of how long we were there, the table next to us had gone through 3 different seatings by the time we paid and left. Mr and Mrs Castellucci were present and making rounds while we were there but we were only visited once by Federico who gave us a speech about perfecting appetizers which in retrospect almost felt like a warning. We were celebrating double anniversaries so the whole meal was a big let down and my brother was very irate about the entire thing. Our server definitely felt bad. The restaurant gave us spumoni and mango sorbet as both a congratulation and apology. Unfortunately I think the only people who would come back are myself and my husband (just for appetizers) and maybe my mom if I asked but everyone else at the table considered it a gigantic disappointment and waste of money and they would never come back. read more

The second time I visited I went for the Hanger Steak and it was amazing! Sugo is perfect for date night, or an special occasion, their kinda pricey but totally worth it! The suburbs is home to chain restaurants and lack luster chophouses. I have heard about Sugo for years but had not made the trip because it is in a Medlock Bridge shopping center. We arrived and it was all we thought it would be...except it was absolutely packed. We had a reservation but arrived 30 minutes early. They said they could try and seat us early and they made room for us at the bar. Sugo was buzzing with lots of locals visiting their favorite local Italian restaurant. Sugo had amazing reviews and I immediately reserved a table (HIGHLY suggest reservation). I got a call the day of to confirm which was also nice! The restaurant is located in Johns Creek and has great parking on site. You will avoid the parking stress or high parking fees that you run across in Atlanta. We were seated within five minutes of being in the restaurant. Their service is impeccable and top tier. I don't believe I have ever received the hospitable and humbling service Sugo provided at any point prior in my life. We were consistently checked up on by our waitress, another employee, and the creators/owners, Mr. Federico Castellucci II & Mrs. Nancy Castellucci. Mr. Castellucci gave my family a charismatic sales pitch of appetizer items and mentioned the Bacon Wrapped Dates & Maialino Flatbread. We ordered two appetizers: Bacon Wrapped Dates & the Burrata. Both appetizers were in our stomachs within 7 min. The bacon wrapped dish is both sweet and savory. For entrees, our family ordered the Shrimp Scampi, Market fish, Cannelloni, & Mafaldine Amatriciana. My parents and I completely cleared our plates and overall everyone was beyond satisfied. The serving sizes are a bit on the moderate side, but I absolutely loved this and felt the size was perfect to balance the burst of flavor in each dish. We had enough space for dessert and opted for the Bourbon Bread Pudding. The dessert felt like a hug in your mouth, warm and chewy with cinnamon and candied walnuts. We had been wanting to try this place out for awhile and finally got the chance the other weekend. I was able to get an 8:45pm reservation the day of. The location is tucked on the backside of the strip mall, so it was hard to find, but does give it that more private vibe. The parking lot is small, but we were able to snag one of the few spots available. Once inside, we only waited a few minutes before being seated in the left dining room. The manager came by to great us and tell us a little about the menu, explaining the specials. He sold us on the meatball and flatbread appetizers. The meatball was great, but the flatbread was something truly unique. The dough was so thin and crispy, but soft at the same time, hard to explain, you'll have to try it for yourself. I did not have any of the Arancini we ordered but my party assured me it was excellent. For my entree, I had the shrimp scampi. The spicy fettuccine made the meal for me! It added that kick that is hard to find in this dish and made it stand out. The pasta tasted fresh and there was a good amount of shrimp. The service was excellent and they had a good drink menu. The flatbread was really different as it's not the typical thick dough you may envision; theirs is super thin. It primarily had pork that sat upon a pesto and oil bed that was really good. It's sort of a composition of a super-thin tortilla with a crisp of a chip. If you were to try any appetizer, this is the most unique item that I haven't encountered before. The meatball was the winner of some contest in the region, and boy oh boy was it popular. Yes, I mentioned meatball as it's singular, but it was a sizable mound. Sometimes meatballs are so so to me, but the meat was flavorful and juicy. This was def my second fav appetizer that's pretty unique. I do believe there's also a cooking class where you can make these meatballs. I'm not sure of the details myself, but my friend was inquiring about the class, and our waitress was saying how quickly the spaces fill up. Entree wise, I had the cannelloni while the hubs had the eggplant parmesan. My choice of the cannelloni was great. The house-made pasta was actually lasagna. The lamb ragu def brought the flavors of this dish out. Though the dish looked small, the food was a fairly good amount. And oh the cheeses atop the pasta were fantastic. The hubs' pick of the eggplant was so so. You could say that it was too healthy for my tastebuds. Aside from the tomato sugo sauce, there wasn't much flavor going on. The zucchinis, peppers, and mushrooms def spiced up (so to speak) this eggplant dish. There's just too much veggies so his entree wasn't up my alley in terms of liking this dish. Overall, great service and food. The atmosphere was semi-romantic and fancy. There was def a touch of authenticity with the food and pictures on the wall. Sugo is at the furthest left side of the complex. Though there is parking at the back, it is rather dark and pretty full during dinner on a Sat evening. read more

My review is a bit mixed. My friends and I went to sugo for a late birthday celebration. The service and food was great. They were very accommodating and attentive. It is a great place to come in as a family or to go on a first date. Due to the fact that the shrimp scampi that I ate was good, I got another one set To-go for my husband. Unfortunately, by the time my husband had the opportunity to taste it , the shrimp scampi was practically inedible.It was super spicy and nothing like what I tasted in the restaurant. The restaurant was already closed for evening so I couldn't find out what happened. This place never disappoints. All the pastas are so yum. On Tuesday's they have "pasta specials" -- a few of their regular pasta dishes are just 12 dollars! But you might have to ask for the pasta specials menu if your server doesn't mention it. Their bread is so fresh and buttery and garlicky thinking about makes me sad I didn't ask for a second basket. Shrimp scampi was delicious and didn't overwhelm me. One person can finish at least 80-90% of the dish. For dessert I got the bombas only bc the tiramisu was out, and I think that was the least impressive part of the meal, just got it bc it was cold and we were seated outside. I'm sure the other dessert are even better though because they are probably fully from scratch? I have come to this place many times - good for birthdays or specials occasions. read more
