There once was a girl who lived in the charming town of Helena, MT. The girl loved sushi and Thai food and was excited to see that a restaurant serving just that had come to town. One Monday night she and two others decided to check it out. They walked in and were seated on the very pleasant patio on a beautiful summer night. The three of them checked out the menu an decided on three noodle dishes and two sushi rolls, even though they were curious what exactly a 'crab stick' was as it was listed as an ingredient in the sushi. However, Helena is seriously lacking in anything even resembling sushi, so they decided to try it regardless. Since they had just come from the brewery down the street they stuck with waters to drink. As the three sat chatting outside they noticed it had been quite a while since they ordered, but they had not yet gotten their waters. A quick glance at the clock confirmed that yes, it had been a full half hour since they had ordered everything. It was about that time the another, completely different waitress came outside and said, "are you guys ready to order?" "We have ordered already" the girl said, "right now we are just waiting for our waters and our food." Five minutes later out comes the second waitress with waters and one of the noodle entrees in tow. The Pad Thai looked great and the three customers waited for the rest of the food to arrive so they could dig in. Five minutes later the second waitress comes out with the 2nd of 3 noodle entrees, the Drunken Noodles with chicken. They also looked pretty good. As the three sat waiting for the third noodle dish, the friend who was waiting insisted that the other two start to eat, as he did not want the noodles to get cold. All three thought the two noodle dishes tasted good, but that Toi's Thai was pretty superior. Another 7 minutes passes with no word from the waitress on where the rest of the food is. The group was wondering what could have happened, given that it had now been almost 20 minutes since the first noodle entree was delivered. About two minutes later out comes the waitress with the two sushi rolls. Understandably curious, the group asked about the third noodle dish. "We ordered it from the first waitress at the same time as all the others" they stated. The young waitress responded with some excuses, saying that the servers there don't actually have sections in the restaurant-they all help out wherever. And as for the noodles...well she would got check on those. Fast forward another 20 minutes. No noodles. No word from the second waitress. Empty water glasses. The two patrons who received their food were all finished. Finally the customer who never got his noodles walked inside to inform someone, anyone that he would like to cancel his order, as it was obvious that it had been forgotten. He walked through the doors and stood at the counter waiting and waiting until finally, a third waitress approached asking how she might help him. After explaining what was going on the third waitress expressed her deep regrets for such inexcusable service. "I am going to talk to the cooks right now. You will get your noodles! They will be on us. Please just give us five more minutes." Five minutes pass. The third, very sweet and competent waitress comes out with the noodles bagged up and ready to go. "One last question" said one of the customers. "Is someone going to bring our check?" "No" stated the third waitress. "You need to go inside and ask for your check to pay. You are sitting at table P2. I am so sorry about all this." As the third waitress begins to walk away she stops. "Oh, and just one more thing. Lala the owner is going to try to charge you for those noodles, but don't let her. Tell her that I want to buy them for you." The patrons gasped. "NO!!!" they shouted. "We are not going to let you pay for everyone else's mistake! We would like to talk to Lala with you." As they walk to the front to pay for their supper, the owner was at the counter discussing everything with the third waitress. "She can't pay for these noodles." Said the patrons. "She is the only worker here who actually helped us tonight. She will not pay for them and neither will we." As the owner begged the patrons to please come back all they could do was politely shake their heads. After what seemed like hours stuck in a crazy restaurant time warp, the three patrons treated themselves to some delicious homemade ice cream from the Big Dipper and vowed never to set foot in the Suki Cafe again and to warn all who pondered whether to check out the new place in town what to expect. As they enjoyed their ice cream they couldn't help but laugh and just be excited that the night ended on a sweet note! read more

I wish there was an option for zero stars. When my wife and I entered the restaurant I practically got an instant headache from an overwhelming sweet smell. So we sat outside. Service was mediocre. Nothing to complain about, but nothing spectacular. We ordered fried rice, drunken noodles, spicy basil chicken, and gyoza. I figured we'd have some left overs for lunch tomorrow. We definitely had left overs, but none that we took with us. The fried rice was way too sweet and had entirely too much egg in it. The drunken noodles and the spicy basil practically tasted the same. The beef in the drunken noodles tasted... Old (nicest way of putting it). I was wishing for a bottle of siratcha to actually give some spice and mask the unfortunate flavors. The only things that were edible was the gyoza (probably frozen from a bag, then dropped in the deep fryer) and the white rice that came with the basil. So that as 40 dollars down the drain to reaffirm that Helena has the worst food scene ever. read more

It pains me to write this review. I had read the other reviews and hoped they were just those people that complain about anywhere they go. They were not. We have had fabulous sushi in Chicago, great sushi in San Francisco & Portland and even good sushi in Hamilton and and Billings Montana. The same goes for Thai food. The biggest problem with Suki is a system problem that the owner could remedy immediately. That is, there is not a wait staff assigned to your table or to a section. Therefore no one provide continuity of service for your table. You get asked what you want to drink 5 times, what would you like for an appetizer 5 times, what would you like to drink 5 times. This goes on through the entire meal. It totally ruins the dining experience because you are constantly telling them that it is already taken care. I think the wait staff cares, they are just working in a broken system. The most common thing I heard them say was "I'm sorry." They will not get tipped for this crappy experience and staff will turn over. If the owner would change the system to assigned wait staff, this problem would be gone, poof. On to the food. The Thai fresh rolls appetizers were too thickly skinned with rice paper, at least two extra wraps. I order spider roll primarily for the crunchy crab leg ends. These rolls had too much cream cheese and not enough soft shell crab, and no crab legs sticking out the end:( For entrees, we had Pad Thai noodles and seafood red curry. The Pad Thai noodles had a smokey flavoring that I have never experienced anywhere else in a Thai restaurant and hope to not experience again. The seafood red curry was delivered as CHICKEN red curry and tasted quite good. By this time I knew it would take 10 or 20 minutes to solve the meat screw-up, so I didn't even mention it. I had far more satisfaction from walking around the corner and getting a $5 pint of ice cream from Big Dipper than I did for $55. at Suki's. I sincerely hope that they can straighten out their service quickly or it will kill them. For the prices they ask, they have to provide better food and service. And take the smoke out of that Pad Thai. read more

Saturday afternoon lunch on a frosty day, Tom Kha warmed us right up. We didn't try any sushi but the green curry with tofu was excellent. Note that we weren't offered a choice on heat level, and the default was a solid medium+ spicy. Perfect for us but maybe not for everyone. Nice atmosphere, cozy but spacious. Finally Helena got a decent sushi place. The service was very good. My favorite was the Alaska roll and my wife liked the spider roll. The price was reasonable for sushi. Will definitely go back very soon. read more

My partner and I came here because we lovedddd the Suki Cafe in Great Falls. We were both highly disappointed. We're pretty big sushi fans, and though I understand we're in the middle of the country without an ocean this sushi was sub-par. You can taste the grease in anything tempura. If it wasn't for the fabulous service I would've given this place 0 stars. Quite disappointing, if you like sushi, and can tolerate Montana sushi, don't go here. read more

Great food, quiet atmosphere, and friendly staff. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it is surprisingly cozy on the inside.

The food here is amazing, and the service is even better. I love the owner and his wife and daughter. I go here often and have had nearly everything on the menu. The food was decent. Sushi was pretty good, although the nori was a bit tough. We had fresh rolls and the rice wraps had dried out so badly they very nearly choked me (obviously they made them way earlier in the day and let them sit for too long). Some of my table-mates got Thai noodles which they enjoyed although I found them a bit chewy. The service was glacially slow. I think they still need to work out some of the kinks. read more

I've been meaning to review Suki for awhile. I was very excited when I found out there was going to be a new sushi restaurant in town. I have been there a handful of times now and each time I have been disappointed. The Thai noodles are bad, the chicken tasted microwaved-not fresh. I struggle, I mean STRUGGLE to find a sushi selection. I love sushi but everything on the rolls menu is either tempura, or has some type of mayonnaise sauce on it or is made out of 'crab' sticks! Not real sushi, not going back. read more

I have enjoyed several items from the sushi menu and the fresh rolls. The service is exceptionally kind, friendly and attentive. It is a pleasure to come back as they make a clear effort to recognize me, remember what I like and show genuine appreciation for my business. I hope they do well in Helena and are able to prosper. My suggestion is to offer option for customer designed sushi. For starters -- would really like to see more vegetable sushi and particularly one filled with pickled daikon radish. I have hugely enjoyed this in other sushi establishments. It would be a hit! So would the attention to customer choice. read more

We call this place the "SUCKY Cafe" because the food and the service were horrible. Don't bother wasting your time or money going here. You won't get what you ordered, if you have any special requests they will tell you that they will do your requests and then not do them. Worst Phad Thai I've ever eaten. Coming from Butte, my wife and I were used to tired, dirty old decor. It was a real treat to see a modern and clean restaurant. We were there for a late lunch and had the place to ourselves. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. I had Tom Yum soup and Fresh Rolls, my wife had the Pad Tai. The food was very flavorful, served on time and with a smile. Downtown on the Gulch Suki Cafe. Their lunch menu is very reasonably priced and offers many choices; sushi, hand rolls, pad Thai, fried rice, miso. I love the tom ka with chicken. It is a meal all by itself. They also feature an all-you-can-eat sushi bar for big appetites. Always fresh and beautifully presented. In the summer they add outdoor tables. read more

Vegetarian review. I recently moved from Helena to Washington, and I miss Suki Cafe! Suki stakes up with any good Thai place here in Seattle, honestly. The food is delicious, well-cooked without too much oil, and there are a lot of vegetarian options - I love the pad thai, pad see ew, and Thai sweet chili with tofu, though the teriyaki tofu and curries are also good. Also, the restaurant is very clean and the service is honestly the friendliest and most thankful in town! Oh, and don't forget to have a Thai iced tea! They are delicious! read more

We are huge fans of Asian cuisine and cook it at home all the time, so we figured we should give this restaurant a try. I should preface this by mentioning that we have eaten excellent Asian dishes in Portland, Washington DC, San Francisco and other locations. I am sorry to say that this restaurant was a HUGE disappointment. The only semi-decent item we had was the seaweed salad, which we knew couldn't be bad because all restaurants get it from the same place, i.e. it is not made in the restaurant. It was extra cold, but tasted like it should. The chicken green curry mostly consisted of chicken and green (and some red) sliced bell pepper. No basil, mushrooms or anything else. It tasted salty, peppery and lacked other flavors. The steamed rice was overcooked. The rice in our sushi was undercooked. The sushi seaweed was stale. Not surprisingly, the sushi itself was chewy and nothing to rave about. The drunken noodles were oily and looked and tasted like someone dumped a bottle of dried oregano on them. I agree with a number of other reviewers that you're better off saving your money and going around the corner to the Big Dipper for a bit of ice cream. I had to go there just to eat something as an apology to my taste buds. If this restaurant is going to survive, they need to revamp their recipes. They need to use fresh herbs, less salt (which just masks poor cooking), more "real" vegetables and lighter, flavorful meals such as Vietnamese noodle salad (no one in town does Vietnamese). I'm actually angry that we wasted money on this food. We couldn't even finish our meals because they were so bad. read more

8-12-14 The only reason this Cafe received one star is that the rating system will not allow negative stars. There were four in our party and we had a reservation. We were seated right away and given menus. We all asked for water and the waitress left and did not come back. I got up and found someone and asked for some water and could someone please take our order. Another waitress arrived and took our order and again we asked for water. Maybe another 20 minutes went by and we stopped another waitress and again asked for water, which she brought. Then one of our entrees arrived, but none of the rest of our food. We were hungry so we all had some. Then another 20 minutes go by and a second entree arrived. We were out of water at this point and our very first waitress came by and we asked if we could have more water and what happened to our sushi, which should have been served before the entrees. She came back with a pitcher of water and just set it on the table and said the sushi bar was backed up and our orders would be out after while. There was a group at the table next to us who also had not gotten any service and asked us what was going on. We told them that the service was the worst we had ever seen so they just got up and left. Our sushi finally arrived after our entrees. I got up to pay and asked to see the Manager or Owner. I was told that there was no management staff at the Cafe. I have eaten at restaurants all over the world and this one has the worst service I have ever seen. There is NO training for the staff and they have no idea how to run a restaurant. Do not go to this Place! read more

Friend and I went for lunch last Friday. We ordered a double spicy tuna roll and some nigri. The owner brought out the roll and set it down stating it was the double spicy tuna. We started to eat it and it is was over half gone when our waitress then brought out another roll and told us that it was the double spicy tuna and what the owner had brought was a mistake and was a Seattle roll. She assured us that since it was the owners mistake it would not be put on our bill. Our bill came and sure enough there was the Seattle roll added to it. We asked the waitress why it was included in our bill and she stated that La La told her because we ate the roll that we had to pay for it. This is not the way to conduct business. If you make a mistake your customers should not have to pay for it. Looks like it is back to road trips to Missoula or Billings for sushi read more

My husband and I visited Helena from Oregon and came here for dinner. We ordered garlic pepper salmon and teriyaki salmon. The food were delicious and the service was excellent. We also enjoyed their atmosphere. Clean and relaxed. We will definitely come here again whenever we visit Helena. read more

Had lunch there the other day, unlike other reviews, I had excellent service, waitress and hostess were both extremely friendly and provided great service! I was not overly impressed by the sushi, but I think I just disliked what I ordered. Next time I'll try a more staple sushi roll like the California roll. I've been eating sushi my whole life, and having just moved here from the east coast, it was good to finally get a place that has sushi that is fresh and wonderful. Have been here three times now. The servers are in disarray, but were very polite. All three times I was asked for my order by more than one waitress. Thai food is much better than the Japanese. The sushi "chef" could not even pronounce most of the sushi names and was clearly not familiar with Japanese cuisine. Rice wasn't prepared correctly and the menu mislabeled "hirame". I know sushi in Montana (and America) is going to be expensive, but being expensive and bad really hurts. Doesn't take much effort to make better sushi at home. The curry was much better, maybe worth going back for it the place was correctly managed. I have had both red and green and they were fine, but priced too high for what you receive. With so few Asian offerings, it is sad to see so wasted potential. If you want Japanese food, go somewhere else! read more

Suki is really good. The sushi always comes in large rolls and has a lot of fish in it. This is our favorite place to go for sushi. When it comes to other things on the menu I like the coconut shrimp, you get a lot of shrimp and they are good sized. read more

Horrible experience. I'm sitting here to visit and be a designated driver for friends on a Friday night and the waitress yells at me, "you pay!" As I pass on ordering a menu item saying, "no thank you." She then proceeds to accuse me of sharing with others (evidently forbidden when someone at the table orders "all you can eat sushi"). Ultimately another waitress came out to confirm orders and collect menus. I again said, "no thank you, I'm not eating" and she proceeded to duplicate my husbands order to collect a charge for something for me. I'm baffled that this is even allowed to happen.
