It's not a trip to Boston without going to Castle Island with my Grandson. An excellent playground with a beach and beautiful water view. The food is pretty good. The seagulls are bandits so guard your fries and sandwiches. A walk around the Fort is great exercise. Perfect area for flying kites and picnicking. As others have said the Lime Rickey is the drink to try. Soft serve ice cream is very good. Fried clam strips with onion rings are my favorite to order. read more

I love going here on nice day, like today, to get some food and enjoy the weather. They have lots of outside seating available, tables + benches to sit at. What we ordered: -fried clam bellies (small) -fried scallop dinner w/ fries OMG! The clam bellies were HUGE today. The strips were so meaty too and definitely satisfied my fried seafood craving. I love dipping with both tartar sauce and ketchup + hot sauce mix. A small was definitely a good amount! The scallops were colossal, as well, and honestly the pictures that I captured didn't do either platters justice haha. Both were definitely jumbo size, which exceeded both our expectations because we each hadn't had Sullivan's the last few years & have visited other fried seafood spots around... I have not found a place around or even Maine or the Cape to have such large scallops + clam bellies. Sullivan's will always be a staple down in castle island. Having grown up here it's nice to see how they've evolved. There's a little bit for everyone in terms of menu items. Sandwiches, fried seafood, broiled items, ice cream, drinks, burgers, chicken tendies! There was a line the day we came but it moved fairly quickly, outside some characters in line that want to be confrontational, but shut that down quickly. Now back to the fried scallops they were nice and juicy, perfectly fried and the batter stays on! The fries were crispy and the clam belly's were full and fat! Now price to portion, you definitely paying a bit for the staple name and the location. Wish the portion of seafood was a bit bigger for cost but that's just me. I've been to Sullivan's many times over the years, it's such a Boston institution. Menu is nothing fancy, but the foods are exactly what you are looking for when you want oceanfront snacks. SSullivan's has always been the best place to get "big belly" clams in the Boston area. It was definitely the "go to"anyone who look place for anyone who loves clams. Recently I went and was very disappointed with fried clams. However, I should have known better than to venture into the chicken sandwich for a healthier option. The chicken was rubbery and hard to chew - probably was a frozen chicken breast and not worth the $8. Their crinkle fries are nice and crunchy but lacking salt so you'll need to add your own. Their fried options are okay - pricey like any other summer seafood placeLove their soft serve on a hot day though. Expect a long line during the summer. Seating is limited to a few outdoor tables but if you walk a bit further towards the playground, there are plenty of tables there. Or even better, bring a blanket and sit on the grass to watch the boats go by. We took a nice little walk to Castle Island today. Beautiful spot. While there we visited Sullivan's for a quick bite to eat. Sullivan's had some nice reviews so we went in with high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The Sullivan's menu has all of the classic fast food favorites like burgers, hot dogs and fries as well as lobster rolls, fish and chips, fried clams and salads. We went with the burgers, fries and dogs. I personally I decided to opt for something lighter and ordered a chicken Caesar salad. Unfortunately, everything we got was incredibly underwhelming. The burgers, for starters, reminded me of a Wendy's burger though more generic and less flavorful. The hot dogs too were disappointingly generic, lacking any standout qualities that would make them memorable. The fries were mediocre and had almost no salt. The biggest letdown was the chicken Caesar salad. I knew it was gonna suck before I got it, but it REALLY sucked. The chicken had an unpleasant slimy texture, reminiscent of pre-packaged chicken breast that's been sitting in a fridge for a month. It was evident that the chicken had not been cooked to order and it was just pretty gross. The salad itself was very plain, just romaine and I added in some tomato, though the tomato was mealy and old. Food aside, the location is nice enough, with a bunch of picnic tables outside and a great view. The staff also was also quite nice even though their food was terrible. Overall though, 1 star. A staple if your visiting castle island. The employees are very pleasant and they are very busy. The parking is plentiful and there are a few tables outside. The restaurant itself isn't too big and not meant to be eaten in. It's stand in line, place order and scoot. We always end up eating in our car. Extremely quick service during lunch time on a Saturday, but just okay food. You'll get your food within 15 minutes with insane lines that practically go all the way to Winthrop. I visit Castle Island at least once a week, and decided to hit up this Southie staple for the first time. To be completely honest, I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting, but the food was just okay. The quality is good, and pretty fresh for fast food, but nothing about any dish stood out to me. We got a bunch of finger foods to share. The chicken fingers were a bit pricey ($8 for 4 fingers) and chewy, but not bad. You'll get better ones at Friendly's or Canes though. The onion rings were solid, but a bit flakey (many onions were separated from the coating). The fries were my least favorite-- absolutely no flavor, soggy, and desperately needed salt. I tried to mask that by dipping them in sauces, but the sauce packets are small and you'll have to pay extra if you want more than one. The only thing I really enjoyed was the Raspberry lime Rickey, but it had lost carbonation at the 5th sip. It was also 5 dollars. On a very warm Sunday afternoon there was a pretty long crowd but they are super efficient and the whole process from waiting to order, ordering, then waiting for the order was around 20 minutes. I got the small order of fried clam bellies and fries. The portion of clams was huge, really enough for 2 people, though the fries order was about right for one. Quality was good, not great, some were mushy, but the crispy ones were excellent. Recommend carrying your order onto the car lawn of castle island for better views, relief from the crowds, and still good shade from the many trees. read more

A nostalgic historical restaurant on Castle Island (arguably a monopoly), Sullivan's hasn't changed a bit in the decades its been around (except for things getting more expensive). Lines are fast as service is pretty efficient. Everything is pretty sharable. I got the fried clam strips and fries, a lobster roll, and a large clam chowder for two people. We were stuffed afterwards, but did manage to fit in some ice cream while walking around. The seafood is average in Boston terms but way better than anything outside of New England. Great portions combined with the squawking of seagulls and harbor breeze, it's more about the experience here. A must stop if you're visiting Boston. read more

So I am visiting from L.A. my friend took me here a couple days ago after visiting Castle island. We walked around the fort that had dinner. I paid $35 for a lobster roll and clam chowder and a drink. The food was definitely good quality was fresh and yummy. The lobster roll was pretty small but it was the cheapest I have seen being here in boston. After I was done I wasn't full because I am a panda and I do need to eat. The food is okay but the service was friendly and the beautiful scenery can't be beat! Walk around Castle island, take pictures of the beautiful vistas and then come here and grab a bite sitting at the tables outside enjoying the atmosphere. We were lucky it wasn't too hot or too cold a couple days ago although there was a cool breeze by the water. They have an express ordering right outside the restaurant and the lady helping us was very nice and friendly. Went inside and only had a few minutes wait for our order to come out. Fish and chips, lobster roll, cheeseburger and grilled chicken sandwich were all decent tasting. Sullivans has a great location. You can come here to eat and walk it off after your meal on a long nice walk around the castle. We arrived as soon as they opened. There's plenty of parking and the food is pretty much already made so the wait wasn't that long. We ordered a bowl of clam chowder and a lobster roll. The lobster roll was right around $20. A decent price if you're trying to eat a lobster roll. It's served on a regular sized hot dog roll and lightly packed. So the roll was on the smaller side. Very tiny actually. I wouldn't say they scimped on the lobster meat, but they weren't generous either. The clam chowder was good but nothing out of this world. Although I didn't enjoy my meal, I've definitely had better food at other places around Boston. I don't see myself returning to Sullivans unfortunately. read more

There is some seating outside but it's all in the full sun - some umbrellas would make sense, though there is a shaded hill next to Sullivan's and you are right next to Fort Independence with views of pleasure bay on one side and local and downtown on the other.
