This review is for Sullivan's Bar for happy hour on Thursdays. My friends and I like to come here for martinis and light appetizers on Thursdays, when the prices are actually reasonable. However, the last time I went there were huge chunks of ice in my Knockout... watered it down considerably. Also, I had a terrible allergic reaction to something in a dish I had ordered there many times before. Maybe the kitchen didn't wipe down the counters well enough. That being said, the waitresses have always been really nice - but I can tell they're pretty stressed out most of the time. Maybe they need more staff to take care of all the bar guests that flood the place every Thursday night. read more

This review is only for happy hour in the bar...I don't have any other experience than that. The happy hour is the best deal in town. Amazing drinks for $6. I had some grapefruit infused vodka martini with agave that was like drinking the best grapefruit juice you've ever had in your life. But the steak on the happy hour menu is the piece de resistance...about 6 oz. of sliced steak, cooked to perfection, smothered in sauteed mushrooms and served atop a bed of sauteed spinach. This was possibly the best steak I've ever eaten in my life. And the fantastic part? During happy hour it is $6. $6!! Not only was this an amazingly delicious meal for a great price, it's quite difficult to find low-carb happy hour options...most places offer lots of deep fried carby options as their happy hour specials. This steak is the best deal in town, and low-carb to boot, if that's your thing. As an aside, I was sitting at the bar by myself and a few older guys sitting alone tried to chat me up, not in a gross way, but friendly. I don't know what their intentions were, but if you're looking for a rich husband...I'm just sayin'...might be a good spot. read more

Single older women beware. I arrived at 4:45, and there was one couple in the dining room. I was taken directly to the last booth adjacent to the butler/service area as if it had been reserved for someone like me - older, single, female. The shouting of wait-people, clatter of dishes drowned out whatever music was playing throughout the meal. I was not offered fresh pepper with my (excellent) salad though it was offered immediately to the booth nearby. My water was not refilled until the end of the meal, though nearby tables were visited frequently. My steak was excellent, my server was polite, though preoccupied with other more populated tables as they arrived. The leftover box of steak did not include the (excellent) Bernaise sauce I'd ordered with the meal. The bill was $92. I'd not quibble with that, except for being subtly treated as a 2nd class diner from arrival until departure. I've eaten at this restaurant often, as it is right around the corner and the food is always excellent. But I won't be returning for a while. We older single women eat out often, we are loyal, and we tip well. And there are a lot of us out here. Just saying.... read more

Was very disappointed last night. Expensive steaks that were just no good. I ordered the Bone in Dry Aged Ribeye. The first one was way overcooked, the server asked that I cut into the middle to make sure it was right, I could barely force the knife in to make the cut. Dry aged should be quite tender right? After sending it back, the next one was basically identical. I have eaten steaks at all the best places, these two were not what they were billed as. I don't think it was dry aged, or a prime cut. Needless to say we will not go back. Tucson has so much more to offer than this. read more

Paki player and I went here in december of 2008 on a Saturday night. This place was always packed in college and definitely out of our budget. So when we met up in Tucson last Christmas we just had to see what the hype was all about. We got there to be welcomed by an empty dining room at around 9:30 pm. Maybe one other couple. Guess economic times hurt Tucson fine dining really bad. I had high expectations for the steak, but it was okay at best, not at all meeting its hype. Great for steak in tucson, but not if you have had good steak in California or Chicago or been to Ruth Chris, etc. Way too much fat on the steak for the price. Also, I ordered medium rare and it turned out to be a little chewy and not as tender. Atmosphere used to be great back in the day when there were always exotic cars parked out front, live piano, and a packed crowd. However, it seemed way too dead now. Would recommend staying away from this place unless you are never able to go out of town on vacation where you could try decent steak. Did I mention that it is extremely overpriced for Tucson and overall in general the $50 per steak price does not even come close to the quality you would expect. read more

Their wine situation is deplorable. With our salad we ordered a wine for dinner and after 10 minutes were told they were out of it. Relooked at the list and reordered 3 selections just in case they were out of those. This occurred mid soup/salad. Our entree arrived and still no wine so we cancelled the order. The wine arrived mid main course our 4th selection and we declined. For the dining experience/price Vivace or Hacienda del Sol Tucson are definitely the better experience . What a fantastic gem of a restaurant! The atmosphere, service, drinks and food were outstanding! My wife and I were in Tucson for a business/personal trip. We came across this restaurant heading to the Tucson Mall. My wife and mom had the Knockout which they both enjoyed! We had the Prix Fixe menu - the shrimp and lobster bisque was excellent. Wish I had the bowl instead of the cup! I'm normally not a NY Strip Steak guy but this steak was tender and seasoned well! The best part of my meal was the three cheese mac - simply the best. Our server was extremely nice, knowledgeable and provided the right amount of energy throughout meal. Next time we are in Tucson - we plan on returning! read more

It was my Mom's 80th birthday and she asked to go to an 'upscale' restaurant (she actually just didn't want to end up somewhere like Denny's... not that there's anything WRONG with Denny's, but she wanted something nice and, well, you're only 80 once) so my Aunt chose Sullivan's (tiny piece of trivia, Mom's family surname is 'Sullivan'). First, a hearty shout-out to our server, Josh. He had a delightful sense of humor, was very helpful in his description of the menu items, checked in with us about the pace of the meal and was very attentive. We started with the Shrimp Cargot appetizer, a delightful shrimp with garlic butter and cheese creation. Absolutely divine. Be sure to use the bread they serve to get all the garlic butter! We skipped soup and salad and went on to entrees. My aunt's both had filets, Mom had the bacon-wrapped scallops and I had the Ribeye (cowboy cut....more steak than I needed, but I almost never go out for steak so I went big) AND I got it 'oscar-style' so it was topped with lump crabmeat, asparagus & Bearnaise. We shared sides of mushrooms and lobster mashed potatoes. Oh my heavens, the lobster mashed potatoes were heavenly (and yes, there were pieces of lobster meat in them!) Steaks were all cooked to order and very flavorful. Mom thoroughly enjoyed her scallops. Mom got a complimentary dessert due to it being her birthday and chose the Key Lime Pie (which comes with a raspberry sauce). All of the staff we interacted with wished her a Happy Birthday, which just delighted her and the manager came and chatted with us, which was a nice touch. First time here for a work function so the pictures uploaded are just a few of what I could capture, what a selection! When you order a medium/well Filet Mignon Steak that's what you get! I just wish it was a little more done but nonetheless it was amazing. The tender lumps of crab on top of the steak is the icing on top. Order the 8oz Filet Mignon, Oscar style and you won't be disappointed. The sauce is too die for and compliments but entices your taste buds. I had the house side salad to start, the dressing on this salad was not over powerful and then had the melting chocolate for desert (phenomenal)! The staff was on point and catered to every need politely but with keenness. Even to the point of greeting and opening doors for a nice start to your evening. I knew I was in for something special. Amazing place with amazing prices to go with it. If you can splurge on a $44 steak and another few dollars for sides and a lovely $85 bottle of wine (The Prisoners) then your night is off to a great start. read more

Not the best experience.. though our waitress was very sweet the manager was NOT.. after finding what I think was a Little Rock in the jumbo lump crab cake (not very jumbo I might add) she was not to apologetic about it and didn't really care about our concerns, only offering a free dessert. Also the price of the liquor was far to high sees how it was very much watered down. I gave 2 stars only because the philly egg roll were delicious and so was the Raghu steak. I can't say the same thing for the Cesar salad I ordered because it never arrived and the 3 cheese Mac was cold.. all in all I will not be returning to this establishment. read more

We were a group of 20 plus on a Sunday around 5PM. The staff made us feel very welcome. Sunday is Happy Hour all day. It was awesome. We had the filet sliders, salads, egg rolls, and more. The food was delicious. It was also presented very nicely. Sullivans also has jazz on Sundays about 6PM...It was a nice background for our evening. I can't say enough about what a good time we had. I used to be quite the regular at Sullivan's because I lived just across the street. Plus, it was open late enough for me to drop in after work. I haven't dined in the dining room but I have dined on the patio, in cocktail, and at the bar many of times. My favorite meal is the scallops by far! They are cooked absolutely perfectly and come in a bacon sauce. I do have a tendency to love scallops but I believe these are the best I've ever had. I have ordered them two or three times now and each time they are prepared perfectly. Food and drinks are a bit expensive but once in a while it's worth it! Live music also makes the experience worth the expense! The bar service is great and the bartenders always make sure to remember you if you visit a few times. Clayton is the bartender to visit! He makes the best martinis and I'm sure other cocktails as well. You'll never feel like the service or company is even slightly under par. My boyfriend and I most recently visited on valentines day. We both worked until about 930 and didn't expect to go out for a nice dinner. We popped into Sullivan's just to see if there was a chance they were still serving and had an open table. Lucky enough they did and got us right in! The only downfall was that we were completely forgotten about for about 15 minutes and had to go ask for service. This was a few months after we had stopped being weekly regulars so I'm unsure if it was just the busy night, the holiday, or if service started slacking within the time we were absent. We will definitely go back and give it another shot. I just hope one of our favorite restaurants isn't slacking on service and going downhill. If it does seem to be that way, the bar is always a safe bet! read more

I spent my Father's Day evening with my daughter at Sullivans. We had a wonderful meal to celebrate the day. And the Wagyu steak, it was amazing. My daughter had a Filet Mignon that she loved. To top it all off we had a wonderful server by the name of Stephanie. She's very polite, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to be around. Stephanie made our night more enjoyable and I strongly recommend any one to go down and enjoy an evening. read more

The food is AMAZING, but it isn't cheap.... unless you go for the Thursday night happy hour at the bar. Check out the Happy Hour for cheap drinks and delicious food. Everything on the bar menu is delicious... everything at Sullivan's is delicious. Really the food is so good. You have to check it out. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed. Highly recommended by everyone who knows about this place. P.S. If you decide to go for Happy Hour, get there early. Disclaimer: I'm a vegetarian so I can't comment on the quality of steak. Sullivan's is an ok place to go for a swanky swanky kind of steakhouse experience. Rich people like to hang out on the patio and smoke expensive cigars. If that's your bag, then by all means rock on over to Sullivan's. If it isn't, well, don't say I didn't warn you. I have been a fan of Sullivan's since I can remember. I use to go to the one in Palm Desert CA all the time. I have always enjoyed the food and the service there. The best thing on the menu was the Chocolate Souffle, but found out that they discontuned it. This place is a chain with steak so good you don't care. It's very expensive so for most normal people dining here will be a rare occasion. But you won't be disappointed. The steak was delicious, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The service was excellent. The hostess, server, and everyone we talked to were extremely friendly and made my sister and I feel welcome, unlike some places where I feel out of place because they're so overly sophisticated and formal. When I arrived, the music in the dining room was a bit on the loud side, so the hostess directed me to the bar area where there was a piano and bass jazz duo playing and playing fabulously. That set the tone for a fantastic evening. The waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. She offered suggestions without being pushy and helped me decide what to order from dozens of attractive options. Ultimately, I went with a crabcake appetizer which was all crab and no oily breading... delicious! The wedge salad with bleu cheese hit the spot. The potatoes au gratin side was terrific, but it was the 8oz fillet mignon (with sauteed mushrooms) that was the star of the show. One of the best cuts I've ever eaten! Absolutely horrible. My husband and I made reservations for this evening at 7. We arrived a bit early and the restaurant was virtually empty. We waited about 5 minutes for the hostess to come up and she walked up wearing an old sweatshirt. Not so great for the ambiance they claim to have. I haven't been here in almost 7 years and tonight I was reminded why. We were seated about 10 minutes before our reservation, and it took the waiter about 15 minutes to come over. When he walked over, he didn't greet us, introduce himself or anything. He just held up a drink menu and said "would you like to continue celebrating?" Which was absolutely the WEIRDEST way to ask if someone would like a glass of wine etc. We said no thank you. He pours our waters and then just walks away, doesn't ask if we'd like anything else to drink or if we'd like to start with anything. 20 more minutes he brings bread and we have to tell him we would like other drinks and an appetizer. 20 more minutes, we get bread. Then another 15-20, the WORST appetizer I have (seriously) ever had in my life. I did not catch his name, but he was the worst server I have ever had. Middle aged bald guy. He was also very rude and everyone else around us in his section was also very agitated everything was taking so long. There was a table there that had been there for close to 2 hours and they were only on their salads. Finally we ask if we can order. By this point I'm already toying with the idea of just cutting our losses and paying and leaving, but I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt until the pissed me off. I let my husband order first, and he orders the Au Gratin potatoes and the waiter says "we're out of that. That's one of the things I told you we don't have man." With this snip in his voice and so I asked "Is it possible for you to bring us the check please?" And he responds "well, yeah it's *possible*". Ok. Let me be more blunt. Bring us the check please, I'd like to leave. He goes and gets his manager and she comes over, apologizes and tells us tonight is on her, and we told her that our waiter was rude, obtuse and for this high of prices, we expect a modicum of proper service. She offers for us to come back a different night for 2 free entrees, but we will not be going back. Completely unacceptable service, food standard and pricing for what you actually will be receiving there. We left, I called Firebirds and they got us right in for one of the best steaks I've had in the Tucson area. Forever skip Sullivan's. read more

I wish I included pictures to show how horrible this was, now it'll just have to be word of mouth. It was a birthday celebration for me, I have heard fantastic things about this restaurant and wanted to try it out. We did go during lunch hour (it was pretty dead) and had their lunch menu. Had a party of four and all of the meals had disappointing parts to it. I had ordered their business lunch 8oz steak medium rare with garlic Parmesan fries. My steak was rare and unappealing with no flavor or seasoning, and my fries had no garlic or Parmesan and they are just frozen fries. My mom got the business lunch, 8oz steak medium well with garlic mashed potato's. Her steak was cooked medium rare, no flavor or seasoning and her mashed potatoes were COLD. My sister had ordered the salmon, waiter did state it would be cooked medium, which is a little pinkish red, with garlic Parmesan fries. Her salmon was light pink/white (overcooked), dry and burnt skin, same story with the fries with no Parmesan or garlic. My brother had gotten the French dip, he had all fatty cuts of steak in his sandwich. I was extremely disappointed in my experience here with having heard many good reviews , I can cook this meal at home much better. Waiter was very nice and he comped two meals out of the four, but we really wanted to just get up and leave. Before we left, we used the bathroom, the woman's restroom was disgusting, floors dirty, toilets dirty, locks broken on two of the four stalls. No soap in the bathroom, and some weird empty mouthwash bottle just in a basket with cups in it. How does a steakhouse not know how to cook steak?!? Nobody was inside but one other table, so they had time to perfect everything. read more

My wife and I ate dinner at Sullivan's last night about 4:30pm. It was Sunday night and "prime rib night." I ordered the 16oz prime rib "as rare as they could get it" and it came out perfectly cooked with garlic mashed potatoes. As a side order, I had the creamed spinach dish. The prime rib was prepared perfectly; had very little fat; but was not as tender as I had hoped. A delicious piece of meat; but not excellent--prime rib can vary and I would try it again. The garlic mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were excellent. My wife had a house salad and the pork belly dish and said both were excellent. I had a glass of The Prisoner, which is always consistent. The restaurant was very quiet and the service was excellent and attentive. A solid 4 star restaurant and we will return. read more

The food was outstanding and the management was amazing to us it was the first time we have been to a Sullivan's and we loved it!

We had reservations for 7:15 but we were running behind and called ahead to let them know and they moved us back to 7:30 without any issues. We arrived and waited for our table which didn't take long. My boyfriend ahead of time went to the restaurant with flowers which he asked to be put on our table with rose petals too... it was quite the surprise!!! Our server, Joshua, made our dinner experience that much more phenomenal too. He took our photo with the flowers and such before moving them to make room for our drinks and appetizer. We got the east coast oysters on the half shell for our appetizer. It came wish six and then cocktail sauce, horseradish and tobasco. We used the horseradish and cocktail sauce mixed together, it was the perfect amount of flavor for them. I ordered the filet mignon 8 oz with the Gorgonzola butter sauce... amazing! And the steak was cooked perfectly, cold and rare. My boyfriend order his 26 oz longbone the same way with the bourbon pepper gravy sauce... his food was fantastic too. We took the sauce recommendations from Joshua and I am glad we did. Along with the recommendation on drinks (I had the hibiscus cosmo and he had a knockout before we switched to our usual dirty martinis for steak dinners) we also took his recommendation on the au gratin potatoes. The potatoes were great and the asparagus we also ordered as a side was the best asparagus I had ever had at a restaurant. The stalks on those things were huge! So good. We were going to end our evening with the creme brûlée and espresso but Joshua recommended an evening cocktail drink for dessert and again, he did not disappoint! That was the best combination of whiskey and everything else I had ever had for a cocktail. It was incredibly smooth. I don't remember the name of the cocktail I just remember that it was served with the wooden oak stalk in the bottle still that they use to help infuse all of the flavors together. We still got the creme brûlée as well because for us that is a staple at a steakhouse like our dirty martinis are. It was an amazing experience overall thanks to him and we will be back. For as much food and cocktails that we had ordered, the bill wasn't nearly as bad as other places where we have ordered less! Again we will be back and we will be sure to ask for Joshua as our server. read more

Dark steak house atmosphere. Food is pretty good here, I like the appetizers and the steaks. They do have some wines that are priced well and they taste like very expensive wines. During our dinner the waiter kept putting the bottle of wine at the end of the table, we moved in the middle a couple of times and he moved again. Then he knocked the bottle and it fell on the floor. We asked for another bottle and unfortunately that was the only bottle left for that wine. read more

Let me start my saying that I'm not a big steak eater. However, Sullivan's has always offered a consistently great experience. I typically come with large groups and start in the bar where the music is good and the service is prompt. The bar has an outside patio which can be very pleasant on cooler days/evenings. The full on meals are on the pricier side, but the quality is consistent and the service excellent. For the most part, the intention is to get whatever kind of meat your into and get lots of sides as a group to share family style. I usually stick with the salmon, scallops or fish of the day, which are always moist and well prepared. My steak eating friends have always complemented the steaks (but I can't speak to that myself). For side, the mac and cheese is a comforty buttery lump of goodness. I also like the unique preparation of their gnocchi (they offer it in the bar, but if you ask nicely you can get it for dinner). Good: Thursday/Sunday nights $5 burgers with the best fries. Such a solid deal and the food is so bomb. Bad: Anytime other than happy hour if price is a concern. Maybe they weren't quite ready for the busy New Year's Eve, but that's not my problem. My problem is that we paid a price fixe of $75 each, and got slow service - our initial glass of wine took 25 minutes to arrive, and didn't get served our dinner until 9:15 with a reservation for 7:45. When we did get served the meal was disappointing. The sides were cold and not well prepared and the steaks were over cooked and tough. With tax, tip and valet parking we dropped $200 and felt ripped off. We will never go back. read more

"Sullivan's" more like Denny's, you know what not even at Denny's level in terms of service. To begin with, every drink I ordered would take easily more than 15 min, not once was my drink order brought to me in under 15 min. To top it off I ordered a wine bottle and a steak at the same time, I finished eating the steak before the bottle reached my table. And for the food, let's just say it was at the same level as the service. Ordered a medium rare ribeye, when they brought it to me I couldn't tell if it was a steak or a piece of coal. It was burnt and beyond over cooked. My recommendation to whoever is reading this, I suggest you save your money or take else where. This restaurant has by far been the biggest waste of money I've ever spent, flemings prices with the service level of Denny's and food level of BJs. read more

I went to Sullivan's last weekend while I was in Tucson. I'm from LA and have tried many different steakhouses, but the Cowboy steak I had here (cooked medium rare) may be the BEST steak i've ever tried!!
