We have been to Sullivan's several times as well as to their competition, Flemings, McMahons and Kingfisher. The service is always outstanding and friendly and the atmosphere more fun, less stuffy than Flemings or McMahons. Unfortunately, I can only give it three stars due to the amount of salt used in each dish. The four main courses we had (filet, two ribeyes, one lamb chop order) were all oversalted. Very disappointing as it is so easy to let customers add their own salt. The meats were perfectly cooked, very tasty, but way too much salt. So sorry we can't give it 5 stars! read more

We recently ate here after several years! They had some great choices on a Prix Fix menu for $39... Shrimp cocktail, soup or salad and delicious filet mignon! The service was attentive . Our mortgage company has done 2 Happy Hour events in the Sullivan's Tucson bar area... The service staff and General Manager "John" were a pleasure to work with and exceeded our expectation. My folks think this is the best of Tucson, but honestly, it's mid-range even for Southwest desert. While they did manage to serve our filets at temperature, the act of serving was like a freaking clown side show. Not once were the women at the table served first and when our entrees came out and several servers showed with plates, it was seriously three-ring worthy and plates with arms crossing and plates sliding across the table. If Sullivan's wants to command the prices they charge, they need to recruit some head of house that knows how a dining room should be run and train their staff properly. Their only saving grace at this point seems to be a well-poured martini which gets you absolutely s-faced so you don't notice their lackluster performance throughout the rest of the evening. read more

I went to Sullivan's for Mothers Day brunch and while the staff and service were top notch, I was very disappointed by the food. Let's me first say that their menu sounded amazing and I went looking forward to the crab and lobster bisque, lump crab Benedict, and banana foster bread pudding. I could taste it from the menu which is why we jumped to make our reservations. However the Benedict (and hollandaise sauce) had ZERO favor, only one egg was actually poached, I don't think the meat was crab. I was so disappointed that I could have cried. I didn't even eat most of my bread pudding that the waitress raved about as their best dessert when the first few spoonfuls were so hard and dry that it was like having banana croutons. Went there last night for our 1 year anniversary. Although we made a 7 o clock reservation, we did not get seated until 750. We should have left but we were so hungry and had reservations no where else on a Saturday night. We then did not get waters until 805, beverages 10 mins after that. When ordering our drinks our waiter said "im only taking your drinks right now " but I was able to sneak our appetizer order in too. Got the delicious appetizer right away (steak egg rolls delicious). We ordered our food, our waiter told us he had many many tables , so when i requested a 2nd beverage he said it will be a while, and it took over 15 mins. We got our steaks and sides and the mashed potatoes were cold, and the waiter forgot to even place our salad orders(he was VERY busy) .I was also never asked ever if I wanted a refill on either of my drinks. I was so upset because when you pay for fine dining for a beautiful occasion, we expect stellar service. I understand being short staffed, but do not accept 150 reservations then. The server tried to make it right by bringing out the salad late free of charge and throwing in a dessert. At that point I was so upset and felt that our anniversary was ruined, I got teary eyed at the table. So... good steak, but I was very disappointed on the way we were treated :( read more

My husband and I save to have a treat on valentines day every year. This by far was one of the worst experiences we have every had. Our reservation was at 6pm. We arrived just on time and sat down right away. The restaurant looked like as many tables as possible were added to fit as many people as possible. So much so that the only way our server could reach us is to walk around a long isle of tables. Started out fine but took about 15 minutes just to get our bread. Because it was Valentines day we knew it was a set menu and we were allowed upgrades. Our order was finally taken and we got the upgrade appetizer seafood sampler. After about 20 minutes we noticed that a runner was wondering around looking for who ordered the platter but never approached our table so he took it back. I thought maybe it was ours but I wasn't sure. Our server came and assumed that we had sent him away and said just that. I told her no, that the other server never approached us and he took it back. Our platter finally came and of the four oysters one was empty, we got four pieces of crab leg and one of the legs had no meat. It was disappointing. Finally after an hour and 25 minutes our food arrived. My filet mignon was over cooked. I was so disappointed that we had a manager come over. His name was CJ and he was sarcastic and condescending. I noticed he first had a conversation with our server (Selene) and then came to our table. First thing he says is, so your seafood platter came and you sent it back? I told him no, that is not true. I explained that the server never approached our table and that he took it back. I explained how one oyster was missing the inside and that the crab leg was missing meat and how my meat was overcooked. I wanted medium and it was medium well with no pink. With a VERY condescending and sarcastic tone, how can I fix this, I can bring you a oyster and some crab meat. He was not at all apologetic. He embarrassed me and made me feel of no value. I wanted him away from my table. I told him to leave that I was fine. Not once did he apologize nor did he offer anything but an oyster and some crab meat. This is a celebration we only experience once a year. I don't appreciate being smashed in a restaurant (literally could not move my chair). We spent, after tips and upgrades, close to $300 for the two of us. I expected much more. I expected better service and a more welcoming atmosphere. I was skeptical about reaching out to the store manager because if CJ is allowed to speak to customers in that tone I can assume it comes down from management. The bottom line, is that they were not equipped for the volume that made room for and it showed. Servers looked stressed and confused. They were not familiar with the layout and were bumping into each other and asking were tables were. It was hard not to notice after sitting for such a long time. We knew Sullivans is considered a higher end restaurant and we expected much more. It was disappointing and ended our night on a very bad note. read more

Every time my wife and I visit Tucson we go to Sullivan's and are never disappointed. The food is amazing, the prices are not unfathomable, the wine list is exemplary, and martinis are top-notch. They make us feel great from the moment we walk in and they are great at making the act of dining an incredibly pleasant experience. I love a good steak! So needless to say I was pretty excited to try this steakhouse. Wow....what a disappointment. I ordered the bone-in ribeye which should be one of the more tender steaks you can have. I ordered it medium rare. Imagine my surprise when it arrived and I begqn having trouble cutting through it. Then my jaw got tired trying to chew it! When your fork can't even pierce the steak completely through you know you've been had. Big disappointmemt and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to any steak lover. read more

Ok that's the good news , bad news is we had a cigar smoker on the patio. Not horrible except he was spitting the whole time , it was so disgusting. I took my wife there for her 50th birthday. From the front reservations person to the wait staff, I could not expect better attention to our needs. They attended to all our requests and made sure drinks were filled (water and cola), food was prepared correctly, and gave my wife a desert for her birthday. Yes the food is expensive, but in all the years I've been going to Sullivan's (first time here in Tuscon..many times in Charlotte) I've never been disappointed or felt taken advantage of with poor quality food. Everything was great! I brought my parents here for their anniversary and they loved it. The hostess put rose petals on the table, they gave us a free dessert, and had the cooks write "happy anniversary" on each of my parents desserts as well. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. It was our first time here and we loved it! She also took our picture at the table, printed it out for us and put it in a Sullivan's photo holder and everyone signed it as well. I've been to three locations all together throughout the years and they are all the definition of inconsistency. I went here with my wife a few weeks ago for my 40th birthday. My steak was excellent but everything else left much to be desired. My baked potato was cold. They don't serve baked potatoes on the lunch menu. Only for dinner. Since it was my birthday, they said they would do it for me. I think they just reheated a leftover potato in the microwave. The potato was huge but the waiter said that was actually the smallest one they could find. It got me thinking that they probably picked out the smallest one so it would heat up fast. It was hardly even warm to the point that my butter and sour cream didn't melt. My wife likes the Gorgonzola garlic butter on her steak. We both agreed that the butter tasted and looked different. I also had a side of asparagus with the sun dried tomato hollandaise. The asparagus was totally raw. Only about halfway cooked and the hollandaise was like water and had no flavor at all. Hollandaise is supposed to be thick and rich. I had cheesecake for dessert which was good but it took almost 20 minutes to get. They served it with chocolate sauce and the waiter explained that the reason it took so long is that the chocolate sauce separated and they were struggling in the kitchen to get it to cling back together. I would have complained and sent my potato and asparagus back but my wife and I were on a really tight time schedule. If they're charging an arm and a leg for food, which they do, it should be perfect. No exceptions. The bread and butter was good as always too. My wife really likes their 3 cheese macaroni and that has been inconsistent over the years. I've had consistency problems with steaks. One time my steak tasted like a mouthful of salt, one time it was super tough and another time certain spots of it tasted odd and funny almost like it was starting to go bad. Sometimes steaks get those brown spots in certain areas. I wonder if that's what it was. One time the Gorgonzola butter was completely melted and extremely salty. You could actually tell that the butter had separated completely from the cheese. My wife sent that back. It looked and tasted so nasty. They said they were going to make new butter but I don't think they did. The reorder came out solid but it was still salty as can be. I don't think I'm going to be going back here for quite a while especially since it's two hours from where I live. read more

We've been going to Sullivan's for several years and have enjoyed anniversaries, birthdays, and date nights, as well as to entertain friends and business associates in town. We've always participated in the annual gift card purchase. Tonight for the first time our bonus card was turned down because it had expired. When you buy a card at Flemings or Tavalino's or any other restaurant the bonus does not expire. Why Sullivan's? The food is always good and the service as well but tonight I felt like I'd been had. Obviously I'll never purchase another card but I found it interesting that the waitress didn't return our card. Are the employees keeping them for their own use? Very disappointed as we've enjoyed dining at Sullivan's but it's now on my IWNGTTFPA list. read more

I have been going to this, once fine steakhouse, for the last dozen years on December 29th for our anniversary. We have always had great food, but the service and ambiance were unmatched for Tucson. Our visit started with cocktails in the bar. Our initial bartender was fantastic, but she left around 4:30 and was replaced by someone who either hates her job, or is just not very good at it. We got one more drink and asked for the tab. Ten minutes later, without our check, we moved to the restaurant. A short time later she walked up to our table and threw the check on the table and said "I need this paid." and walked away. Come to find out, it was a check we had paid earlier. I asked for the manager, showed him our receipt, and he said he would fix it and be back. We never saw him again. Our food was good, but not great, service good but not what it had been in the past. Overall, this place is run down and needs sprucing up, and higher standards need to be set by management. For the cost, it's just not worth it. read more

My friends and I have fallen head over heels in love with Sullivan's. Each time we visit, as we walk inside and the door closes behind us, it feels as though we've been transported to a different city, where upscale cocktail lounges serve great cocktails and upscale wines in a sophisticated, serene environment. The entire wait staff, from the hosts/hostesses to the bartenders and servers, are all friendly, helpful and attentive. To say the food is wonderful is an understatement; the steaks are the finest quality, juicy and cooked to perfection - the salads and side dishes delicious and perfect accompaniments to the entrees. The dessert menu offers numerous tasty goodies to tempt even the most overstuffed diner - they are simply impossible to resist. The volume of the live music in the bar on Friday nights never overwhelms conversations and creates an ambiance that is absolutely perfect for dates. This is the most relaxed yet sophisticated restaurant/bar in Tucson, and after each visit, I immediately start planning for my return. read more

We went to eat at Sullivans about a month ago and couldn't get in without a reservation (says a lot right there). Learned our lesson and made a reservation for two weeks later. The hostess asked if we were celbrating anything special and if we had any specific meal issues/allergies. When we arrived we were immediately wisked off to our awaiting table. I was most impressed with the great teamwork between staff members. Any of four servers could have been our primary server, but since they all helped I didn't need to know. Our food (appetizer, salad and entree) were all prepared perfectly. The floor manager even came and checked on us. My only compliant was that it was extremely noisy. The bar was close by and it clearly distracted from my evening with my wife. Next time I will know to request a rear table. It was a little pricy, but well worth the money spent. read more

Was able to get a last minute reservation on a Friday night which was great. We had a short wait upon arrival but service was phenomenal. My husband had a steak and I had the chicken. My daughter wanted shrimp but they didn't have that option so the waiter asked the cook and they made a broiled shrimp plate for her! Dessert was a delicious chocolate cake and end to our evening. We called them and their dress attire was casual business and you had to have reservations..After talking to them on the phone they said it was ok to be in casual attire and we didn't have to make reservations.. I'm glad they overlooked the dress code and reservations.. We ordered off the fix menu and upgraded our steaks to bigger ones. Not a great overall experience. We ae there last night, February 20, 2016. Our waiter was trying to be smooth and tell us how great everything was. I asked about the Chilean Sea Bass since I love that fish and he said he didn't suggest it, this is steakhouse you know. It seemed like he was more concerned how that $39 price would factor into his tip versus the $50 steak. The food was not as hot as it should have been and my bone-in filet was small and gristly. Our large party of 20 people celebrated a special birthday at Sullivan's and was greatly disappointed. We were held hostage for a few hours after our food and drink came an hour and half from ordering (the restaurant wasn't busy), dessert (it was a party after all) came so late people ended up getting theirs to go (the restaurant put ice cream in a to go box - who does that?). 3 hours into it people just wanted their checks to go home (our reservation was at 6pm and by this point it was 9pm)...It took over an hour to get our checks sorted out (though they sat us and took our order according to our separate checks). At 10pm they ended up lining us up in our private room and "checking us out" couple by couple because they couldn't get anyone's bill correct. Finally around 10:30pm the last couple was able to leave. Worst service experience ever! I gave it 2 stars because everyone loved their food (or just starving by the time they got it). read more

Some of the best steak we have ever had and the bananas foster bread pudding is to die for! They even gave us a complimentary desert and photo in honor of his birthday! This was a disaster of a dining experience. First we were seated in a "nonsmoking" outdoor patio section;however two tables away was the smoking section with a table of cigar smokers. We were a party of 7 and ordered appetizers and drinks off of the happy hour menu at 6:34pm. Soon after our drinks arrived, we ordered entrees off of the dinner menu. Over 2 hours and 15 minutes later we still did not have any entrees. We were told multiple times it would be 5 more minutes. When the food came, my steak salad was way overdressed creating a wilted soggy over-salted mess. Then the manager apologized for our delay since by this time most of my party needed to box their dinners to-go, and told us he would comp the menu items. But when our checks came, the happy hour items were full menu prices. So we waited another 15 minutes while the waiter fixed all the checks. Just a ridiculous experience for a supposed upscale dining establishment. read more

My cousin made a reservation for dinner celebrating our family re-union. My uncle who lives in Tucson likes Sullivan's steak house. Last year celebrating our family re-union we had great service and the food was good. Unfortunately, for our latest family re-union the service was terrible, and the food was just OK. Not what a steak house should be changing such prices. My mother's salmon was over cooked, and she had to send it back. My cousins steak was burnt to a crisp and he had to send it back. My salmon was slightly overcooked and not worth the price. When you must send dinner back, all the side dishes get cold and while others are eating, you are sitting there waiting for your food. Another fish restaurant we recently went to I ordered trout with brown rice and grilled zucchini. It was excellent and only $11.95 for the dinner. Once dinner was over the table was cleaned and 20 minutes later the waiter came by stating a few of you get desert, and we ordered the desert to go. We waited once again about 20 minutes. We called the manager over stating we are waiting an excessive amount of time for our deserts. The next day my cousin told us it was nice that the family was together, but he was sorry for the poor service and mediocre food. The dinner with wine I'm sure was over $1,000.00. We all agreed the next family re-union it will not be at Sullivan's. We will never go back there again. read more

I was very disappointed with my experience at Sullivan's. My date and I checked the dress code so we could dress appropriately. Their web site stated business casual. I guess in Tucson, Arizona that means tennis shoes, jeans and t-shirts. As this was the evening attire for most of their guest. My husband ordered the Bone-in ribeye cowboy cut steak, I had the 12 oz filet mignon. The ribeye was so tough he had a very difficult time cutting it. My filet was very tender, but had no flavor at all. We also had the Oscar style sauce on the side. The bearnaise sauce was cold when it arrived. We had a side of asparagus which was ice cold and the biggest asparagus I have ever seen served in a restaurant. Usually it is baby asparagus which high end restaurant serve and the only kind I would ever purchase in a grocery store. The appetizers were of average quality. But the bread and Au Gratin potatoes were very good. The only items of the entire meal that was served hot. The server was very nice, but nothing was delivered to our table in a timely manner. Sides were delivered long after our steaks arrived and our appetizers did not arrive together. The atmosphere is very lovely, but do not plan on dining there again. The selections were top of the line and everything was delicious-prime rib was fantastic and well prepared. The server was lovely, and very friendly.
