You feel like you are either in a tiny ski chalet or your mountain cabin...either way sounds like a place I'd like to spend a night drinking with friends! A fireplace at one end, outdoor seating when the weather warms up, a barrel of peanuts ($1.25 donation requested), cozy booths, pin ball machine, 1970's Trivial Pursuit sports edition, a hodge podge of magazines in the magazine rack, a mounted jack -a-lope head. No my friend you are not dreaming! And to top it all off they have a great selection of beers on tap. My friend ordered a corn dog and I saw another customer eating tomato soup and grilled cheese. This place is doing everything right! Although it is small there were 12 in our group and we managed to comfortably situate ourselves by the fireplace. This wonderful lodge planted on Phinney Ridge was the perfect amount of winter on the mid-February evening of my first visit. On the wall you will find snowshoes and a stuffed goose. To the right as you walk in the main entrance a toasty gas fireplace. There are also a pair of vintage pinball machines, a few worn-in booths, several tabletops, and if I lived in Seattle I would be a regular settling into one of the stools at the bar. During my stay, we came to Sully's and I learned how to play dominoes (officially for the first time ever!) They also had scrabble, pictionary, trivial pursuit, and many many more. It was a great night of playing dominoes next to the fire with some good local beers while watching the Olympics on the bar TVs. There was also an amazing line-up of music on a well-filled jukebox. Enough to keep our heads bobbing throughout the night. This bar hit the great status when I found out that dogs are welcome! Being a dog lover, i found this truly enjoyable! This is a great warm and cozy bar for the winter months, but in the summer there is a great patio to drink a few beers in the sun! I can't wait to return to Seattle to come back to this rockin' bar! As soon as you walk through Sully's doors you feel like you're at home. The bartenders are warm and friendly and the saloon itself is packed with regulars, mostly folks of retirement age. My husband, best friend and I grabbed three seats by the fireplace, ordered pub grub, including a great grilled cheese, and drank several great microbrews. What was only meant to be a one beer stop turned into several hours. We left feeling like we would be welcomed back like family on our next return. read more

Their selection is fairly wide - from my beloved Black Butte Porter to Rainer - they have their customer base well covered. The fact that it looks like an alpine inn from the outside had me at first glance. The fact that their bartender got my bf another pint (no charge) after he accidentally shattered his glass into the bar, after only having a few sips, won my patronage. The owners there are beyond friendly. With the soft October rain, makes me want to come in for a place to dodge the wetness as my dogs and I are quickly welcome in and we took place by the fire. Before we even took our seats, the owners were graciously giving my pups doggy treats and made them feel like super stars (I didn't think that my dogs even want to leave there). Cozy ski-lodge styled bar with a surprising beer selection and focus on prompt service! Three friends and I visisted for the first time, spending two and a half hours playing cards here last night (a Tuesday) and felt like we'd been coming here for years. The place is small (two booths, two four-tops, and a few two-top bar tables along with bar seating), but everyone who visited seemed to find a place and feel right at home, either watching a game or playing pinball. Prices seemed very fair; I had two beers and some chili, which rang in at $12. Bathroom could use a bit of patching up, but otherwise there isn't much to want to change here. Owner Sully has a fantastic selection of local microbrews on draft (Lagunitas & Maritime), Canadian bottled beers (Moosehead!) and a subscription to the Canadian NHL feed (CBC). Hockey is consistently on at least one screen during the season, and the local customers are both welcoming and energetic. No-nonsense bartenders are quick and knowledgeable. Sully's is one of those bars that knows everybody if you are present enough. I'm not at that level yet, but I'm getting there! It's just a good dive bar that offers divey bar food, a pretty decent selection of on tap beers (they include craft!) and are always there when your beer or wine is getting even remotely low. The bartenders are always nice and even Sully himself is always willing to chip in when the drinks are a-flowing among the pub patrons. There is outside seating available during the warmer months and the indoor decor has a Southern Germany/Bavarian feel, only divier! It's great! If you are looking for an easy, low-key, eclectic place to have a beer without all of the attitude of one of the trendy joints that are missing an IQ and a personality, Sully's snowgoose is the place. There is usually a pretty girl behind the bar and if there isn't, Sully himself will be there to pour you a beer and start up a good conversation with you. 5 stars for the best drink service I have ever had - the bartender/waitress seriously refilled my water 20 times while I was there. (Yes, I am addicted to water.) Also, there are games at the booths inside should you choose to forego the scenic outside seating. I love this little place -- when I can find a place to sit! They have a great and varying selection of microbrews, covering some of the staples as well as things you might not have tried yet. The decor is cozy, complete with fireplace, and makes me feel like I'm in a cabin in the Alps. Their outdoor patio is great to hang out on whenever it's dry, even in the winter, thanks to the gas chiminea. Finally, the bartender has always been very helpful and knowledgeable. I went here with a large group of people, probably around 25. We called about a week or so ahead to let them know that we would be there so they could plan ahead of time. Results: 1 person working the entire bar, including the kitchen! The only food we could order was grilled cheese and grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. After about 1/2 hour we went across the street to The Park Pub and had a great time. They didn't even know that we were coming, but they took it in stride and did a great job. Like Tully's but with fewer Ts, an extra S, and I have no idea what a Snowgoose is. Current hypothesis is that it's a mythical creature which certain Welsh and Norse tribes thought to bring beer at reasonable prices. While I have a degree of empathy for the poor soul whose job it might one day be to stand on someone's shoulders or perhaps a step-ladder, the chalkboard high in the eves lists a great selection, and the helpful staff ensures the glass is never unburdened with frothy goodness. I've been frequenting "The Goose" for many years now. It's the kinda place you can go relax and read a book or play chess sometimes. Other times you'll be yelling at the top of your lungs to talk to someone right next to you. They keep a good selection of beers flowing at a fair price. The food is good and simple. I've ridden by this place for a long time and was struck by one thing: There are a lot of crusty, old Seattle folks hanging out being total lushes. If you're into that, which I am, this is a great place to grab a beer. My friends and I ended up getting some cheap beers and talking with some folks considering opening a food cart nearby. What sets it apart from the a typical dive is the fantastic beer selection. They always have many excellent beers to choose from and they are priced well. You have to love Sully's laid back attitude. It's not a place to go where you want to gather a big group of friends, unless you can get some outside seating. It's generally dark inside, with a couple regulars hanging out chatting up this or that. Don't go for the food, as you'll be disappointed.. though to be honest, I do go for the food. I don't often get a chance to eat Corn Dogs or Chili-Nachos and they do them up here. Beer selection is great and prices are pretty good. It can get crowded with regulars but we've always found a spot to sit near the fireplace outside, weather permitting. I really like Sully's. It's a comfortable little place. Nice people work there. Regular looking people drink there. It's not divey and not trendy. If it could be better, it would have better food (especially with a happy hour menu). The other thing is it's sad when walk in and it's already all filled up and then you have to go over to Park Pub, which kind of sucks. read more

I don't even know what it I really like about this place, but I think it's amazing. "The Goose" was our last stop on what we call a "beer trek." Basically we pick a couple bar/brewpubs that are close to each other and spend a weekend afternoon treking from one to another. "The Goose" was the best bar of the day. It definitely reminds me of a ski lodge meets irish pub. We were greeted by a friendly bartender who was very patient while we asked several time what beers were on draft (there were just so many). There was plenty of seating either at the bar or in the booths on this Saturday night, but the outdoor patio with the fire pit was just over the top. We'll be back here for sure! read more
