Super healthy and delicious Istanbul food! I've never had Istanbul food before and wow this left quite a great impression on me! The chicken rice bowl and Kofte bowl are the best ones. The ingredients and spices that they use really brought out the flavors of the meat. They also offer the Olipop cans in every flavor! It is a little bit on the pricier side but I totally get it because it is a new establishment in San Francisco. read more

Why would this place have flawless banana pudding? The food was delicious. I expected it to be great. And it surpassed my expectations. But the star of the show was the desert. We ordered banana pudding. On a whim. We got one to share. It definitely caused a fuss. Let's just say I left plus one banana pudding -2 friends lol. read more

This place is top-notch, so happy I found it and highly recommend ordering takeaway from here if you're in the city. To preface, my favorite type of takeaway and quick food is build your own bowl style where you can add a lot of veggies and variety to your food while keeping it healthy. Sumac is perfect, with plentiful portion sizes and a simple menu rotating around protein; cooked, pickled, and raw veggies; and a grain. I was planning on ordering delivery from here but wanted to see the location in person for the first time. When I pulled up to the window and ordered my food, the staff were so friendly. Genuinely nice people working hard to run a fast moving ghost kitchen. I ordered a half / half bowl with salad and rice, the Istanbul chicken, roasted veggies, with the labneh and hot sauce. The chicken is so tasty and they give a plentiful portion. It's tender and well seasoned. The roasted veggies and pickled veggies contrast each other well and add flavor, texture, and temperature oriented variety. The labneh was such a great addition. It's garlicky, herbaceous, and rich. Paired with the spice from the hot sauce, the two round out the bowl so well. It's around $20 for the entire bowl but it's actually so big that you could easily split this between two people. Order from here the next time you want delivery, you won't miss. read more

Ordered delivery through UberEats. They & DoorDash have similar discounts. Ordered the chicken & hummus bowl & falafel & hummus bowl. Both came with greens. Everything was delicious! Very generous portions. Able to serve lunch for 2 & have enough for dinners. Tasty without being overly salty. Well packed. Even had complimentary baklava! Will definitely order again. Istanbul street food fusion with California ingredients and aesthetic. I recommend the butcher's kofte rice bowl: roasted ground lamb and beef shoulder balls, basmati rice with fresh dill, served with chickpea salad. Coat in a generous amount of fresh herbs labneh sauce and hot sauce. Whatever you think is enough, add more. The green sauce is herby, garlicy, tangy, and cooling. The red sauce is a punchy fast heat. Very complementary to each other and to the lamb/beef umami. The grandma's banana pudding is rich, creamy, and milky. Sweetness from the bananas. And a soft snap from the vanilla wafers. Everything is well balanced and beautifully presented in generous portions. read more

I order from this place a lot on DoorDash and it's always good quality food although sometimes slow. But today I just had a really slow experience. I ordered at 840pm and it took until 1010pm for the food to be ready for picked by the dasher. 1.5 hours for the most ordered item on the menu just seems really wild to me read more

I got my food delivered to my hotel. It was excellent. We ordered chicken salad and half and half chicken bowl. It was so yummy. Veggies are fresh. Chicken is tasty. It was delivered before time. Found this place on yelp as we were in the area looking for healthy food options. They are fairly new and I was really excited to try the food! The place itself is small with a few seats to dine in. They are located in a lovely area and as you step out of the restaurant you see the most stunning view of the bay bridge. Latest visit 5* The staff is so kind and quite fantastic! The gentleman behind the counter gave us a free pudding 10/10 because we came back after 7 days. I was light refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. As you can tell I LOVE the food here !! Tried the red lentil wrap today 10/10. Can I also add their dips are homemade and I am a fan of the fresh green labneh dip 15/10. I am actually going to come back next weekend too :-) First visit 5* When we got there we were welcomed by the very friendly gentleman behind the counter. We asked for a recommendation and he suggested the wraps. We ended up getting the Red lentil wrap 10/10 and the Organic chicken wrap 10/10. We also got the Tzatziki and pita 12/10 side to go. The food was really excellent!!! The wraps were served with amazing side dressings ( one plain and one was a spicy tomato jam almost). The food was fresh, well seasoned and cooked right in-front of us in the open kitchen. I am a fan and I cannot wait to try all the things on their menu. Highly recommend this joint! read more

I was literally drawn into Sumac by the amazing smells from the sidewalk. I was walking past on my way to North Beach and stopped dead in my tracks. It is all take out, so I got a lentil ball rice bowl (I just had to look up the name and literally want to order it again just looking at the picture) to go and ate it in the park. I expected the lentil balls to be like falafel but they were 1000% better. There are soft, not fried or baked with crispy onions stuffed in the top. It is weird but they are almost like a savory dessert, if that makes any sense (I know, it doesn't). Anyway they come with long grain rice and a parsley salad, which was so good I did not even use the sauce they provided (one yogurt based and one is spicy). I have gotten this same order twice but want to try something new the next time I go. The location is on a residential stretch of Union Street between the Marina and North Beach, so it is kind of a destination instead of something you will stumble across. But it is so worth it to go and try! read more

Just a complete utter delight. I've doordashed them more times than I'd care to admin. Bulgur bowls are bang on point, chickpea salad as well, and I cannot do justice to how good the labane and hummus are with my limited articulation skills. They also deliver in worldcentric compostable containers (except the side sauces) and more restaurants need to start following suit and avoid plastic. read more

Yum! Got the Kofte salad and it's fantastic. Originally asked if they could sub the chickpea salad for babaganoush because I don't like raw onions (they technically can but they were like nah, wouldn't be tasty) but they informed me the onions aren't raw and let me have a sample before deciding. Glad they convinced me, and really nice of them to let me do so! read more

Good mediterranean food. I get the meatball (lamb and beef) salad - it's good but a little overcooked and tough. Would like for it to be softer. The toppings are good and feel really healthy, but I thought the sauce was just okay. I got a side of tzatziki and the flavors meshed together well. Also got their chicken bone broth soup - good but not amazing. Broth is pretty bland. The chicken and cous cous is a nice touch though. read more

I used to love ordering from them on the way home for a take out meal after work, but the quality has gone down and the price is no longer justifiable with the quality and quantity of food it offered. I got a chicken hummus bowl for $21 with tax which is almost like eating at a restaurant but it was too oily. Sadly won't order there anymore, lesson learned. read more

I wanted to eat something healthy and decided to order the chicken rice bowl since I read good reviews about it. It ended up not being healthy at all because the veggies were super oily. The chicken didn't have anything special. The yogurt sauce was good though. I liked the pita bread with the yogurt sauce better than the bowl itself. Just ordered this through UberEats. I loved it so much. Never had anything like the lentil balls before. I was born in the Mediterranean so I adore Mediterranean food. Sumac is quite special and creative with their menu. I ordered the lentil ball salad and the muhammara with pita. The salad was divine. Loved the lentil balls. The taste is so unique and fresh. I would have given this place 5 stars for food flavor/quality, but 2 orders in a row, they have shorted us items. Even though we the first instance to their attention, they left items off our very next order. I don't know if there has been a change in management of staffing, but it seems like something has changed. The food is still great. Sumac is awesome, I stopped by and picked up a Butcher's Kofte Rice Bowl which comes with roasted ground lamb and beef shoulder meatballs, chickpea salad with red pepper and onion, served over basmati rice with fresh yogurt sauce and hot sauce. It was so beautifully presented, colorful, and delicious. The bowl was big enough for about a meal and half for me. I'm not in Russian Hill often, but Sumac is definitely on the top of my list to visit if I ever am. read more

Delivery via UberEats Omg this place might be my best find of the year. I ordered the chicken salad, kofte (meatball) wrap, and roasted red pepper baba ganoush. I could smell the deliciousness even as the delivery guy walked up to me. I usually have one clear favorite in an order but this time I really could not pick because everything was so good. The chicken salad is so beautiful for those who like posting pictures of aesthetic food. It's also a really big portion and would definitely fill you up. The chicken was tender and nicely spice rubbed and paired nicely with the sweet and tartness of the other vegetables. The vegetables and salad mix tasted fresh - it paired nicely with the vinaigrette and had a dill taste. This salad is healthy but certainly makes you feel like you're indulging. The kofte meatball wrap is also delicious mainly because the meatballs are SO good! I love the sauces that come with. I ordered extra sumac labneh yogurt sauce as some of the other Yelp reviewers suggested and it was definitely the right move. Lastly, I can't say I've had a ton of baba ganoush in my life but I definitely enjoyed it from here. The eggplants went well with a garlicky but slightly tart taste. Delicious Mediterranean inspired street food to enjoy in cozy Russian Hill! Their salads are served in a giant bowl, so you wont be left hungry. I ordered the Butcher's Kofte Salad and it was delicious! The pickled veggies added lots of flavor, the lamb/beef meatballs were so yummy, and the vinaigrette was the perfect dressing to tie it all together. I've tried this place a couple of times and I just don't get all the 5 stars. I've gotten the red lentil wrap, chicken wrap, and hummus. The hummus was pretty good but the wraps were mediocre at best. Last time, they also forgot my hot sauce which was a shame because the wrap itself was flavorless. I live nearby and would love to have a good restaurant on standby, so I might come back to try their soups in the hopes they'll be better. Service was friendly at least, and food ready quickly. read more

6/5 every time. This isn't a sit down restaurant. You order to go and then realize you're going to spend way too much money at this place for the rest of your life. We've tried their bowls, sandwiches, soups and it's one of my favorite restaurants in SF. Must try's: My favorite is the Kofte rice bowl. So damn good. Do it. Their Hummus is phenomenal and they give you an insanely large portion so definitely share. read more

Was in the neighborhood and decided to try this place out! I got the kofte meatball 1/2 rice 1/2 salad bowl. Everything in the bowl was very fresh and delicious - also beautiful. The picked cabbage and pickled beets had great flavor as well. I will say it's a bit pricey! I ordered the bowl and a water and it was more than $20, but I will say the bowl is HUGE and I will eat the leftovers for another meal. Another downside is there is no seating here so you have to take it to go. I ended up taking to go and eating at the new Francisco Park. It was an absolutely gorgeous day paired with a wonderful lunch! I would recommend taking to go and eating at one of the nearby parks if the weather is good! read more

What a gem of a place in our neighborhood. Great food, great service, nice people. We love the salads, the rice bowls, and the hummus is among the best we've found in SF. This little place tucked in a residential area is so delicious! The food comes with sauces that are outstanding. I suggest you get extra hot sauce and extra of the light purple sauce you won't regret it. The lentil wrap is a fav as well as the bowls. The hummus is so creamy and the soups are always delicious. I've never had Turkish street food prior to Sumac and it is delicious!!! If you like middle eastern flavors whatever you get you won't be disappointed. read more

Really tasty new spot in Russian hill! Unique and flavorful! We have the red lentil wrap, it came with herb Labne, hot sauce and a really tasty pickled purple cabbage! Also ate chickpea salad, so tasty with lots of herbs and spices. And we got the hummus and fresh warm pita, you can't go wrong-- so good! Only feedback is that there isn't enough pita to for the amount of hummus that comes with it. We actually ended up trying to order more but they were so kind and gave it to us on the house! We met the owner/partner and other cooks and they all checked in to make sure we had a good meal, rooting for this restaurant to succeed! We will be coming back for sure! read more

I opted for the lamb chops. I have grown weary of lamb chops because most places usually gouge you and give you 2 that are somewhat tasty but seem more like an appetizer. Here you will get a full mini rack of 5 small chops which is generous given the price, and more imporantly spiced and cooked to perfection. Accompanied with 2 different sauces, a small portion of roasted potatoes and vegetables, it is an excellent rendition. We also had the red lentil soup which was fantastic. We are delighted to have a new neighborhood spot we both will enjoy.

The taste was exquisite and I will definitely come back again soon! The service was very helpful with recommendations and very attentive when we need attention. The restaurant itself was very clean and refined.
