I recently moved back to Houston and was pleasantly surprised to see that Summer Moon had come to Houston (and with several locations)! This location also had a drive through which could be nice if you don't have time to go and order inside. My go to order has always been the half summer moon or half winter moon, and it never disappoints! My friend got the seasonal latte and said it was good. I previously gave this place a positive and and glowing review which made me visit again. I wish I had a similar experience this time. I visited on a Saturday afternoon, around 4:45. The drive thru had a few cars but inside wasn't very busy. There were two people working and sadly upon entering and standing by the register for about 3 minutes we were never acknowledged. This was very disappointing because I wanted coffee but I refuse to spend my hard earned money where it seems as if business isn't appreciated. Sadly, I left and got coffee elsewhere. Coffee is not the best. Every time I get a cappuccino or latte it needs more coffee. So I stopped getting the coffee and now I get the Java Chiller. It is one of my favorite drinks, but since they started making their own whipped cream every time I go they are out. The last two times I went I get my chiller without whipped cream. After visiting the store this morning to purchase beans I walked out aggravated that they were out of Velvet Blaze. When I asked the individual behind the counter of another suggestion from espresso she basically said "we use Velvet Blaze". I typically don't write reviews, however after reading through other reviews it appears to be a common theme. Rude or simply unfriendly employees working behind the counter. That was definitely the case this morning and the same the last time I was in about 2 months ago. The beans that I purchased were roasted on 7/31 which is not the end of the world. It's still better than what you get at the grocery store. The issue I have is the beans are extremely oily which causes issues with my espresso machine and creates a bitter experience due to over roasting. Based on the comments, this has been an issue for quite some time. I sure hope at some point these comments are taken seriously and the store improves. I will go back in a pinch, but certainly won't go out of my way. read more

But Waze was right and I was wrong, and seriously, when did this little nugget of a strip center pop up?! On a warm day this shop is incredibly bright and lively. From the natural sunlight to the variation in textile, the friendly service, to the knick knack merch! Moon milk is delightful, if you know, you know, and adorning a menu with almond and oat milk options warms my millennial heart. As always, my coffee hit the spot, and the customer service was just fantastic. I will say, personally, my reception here was awful. I saw folks working on their laptops so it's perfectly possible that it was a me problem, but maybe not the place for the super important meeting of the year! The indoor seating area needs a DEEP clean, has lights falling off under the cabinet, the floors are filthy, and furniture looks worn and sad. So I love going to coffee shops out of town and am familiar with Summer Moon and thought let's go. The area was nice and it's beautiful inside but walking up to the counter is not very inviting. We walked in around 5:30 and pastry/food case was empty. We asked if there were any sweets she said she would check and nothing left but savory. The Summer Moon we frequent is alive and warm and they greet when you walk in and make you feel welcome. Not to mention they offer gluten free treats which is a big reason I go. First and foremost when it comes to coffee I tend to like independent shops and although this is a chain it has the feel of Barbarossa or something along those lines. I have had summer moon quite a few times but since this one is close to home and has a Starbucks near by I feel the need to write this to help steer others to a better choice of coffee. Today I ordered the summer moon with an extra shot of espresso; usually I have to add Splenda to such drinks but this sweet cream is perfect in my opinion (if you're sensitive to sweetness this may push your boundaries) also orders the sausage and cheese croissant as well as the almond croissant (yes I can be a fat fuck sometimes). The croissants were decent; the savory was def the star of the show but due to over microwave time it came out greasy and a bit rubbery; but the flavor was present so maybe rewarm at home in a toaster oven, the almond was a bit lackluster; I've had some of their other bake goods and they're pretty good Service was actually very friendly and quick; also helped understand what a summer moon was (my usual go to is a flat white; but wanted to branch out today, and yes the flat white is great) The overall vibe is nice, not so how can I say this... generic like a Starbucks? Each location I've been too has its own vibe and this one has the vibe as if you were not in Houston maybe somewhere northwest? Overall if you have a choice between here and Starbucks give this place a shot read more

I came to Summer Moon on June 24th around 9:00AM, and I had a pleasant experience! First off, I'm from Austin and did not know they had Summer Moon's out here in the Houston area AND this location is close by me - talk about elated! I'm so happy I was able to stop by. I received great customer service, and it reminded me so much of the vibes from the Austin locations. Of course the food and drinks didn't disappoint, and I love when you can go to an establishment and receive the same service and quality food/drinks no matter the location. Summer Moon just opened in our area and a friend highly recommended we come and give it a try. We came opening weekend and were pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly and patient in explaining the options to us and even let us sample the famous moon milk (delicious). The ambiance is modern farmhouse with a little French touch with the outdoor bistro chairs. My husband had the Whisper Moon, it's not on the menu but was recommended as he typically doesn't drink sweet coffees and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the chai latte with coconut milk and it was so good, perfectly spicy and sweet. Summer Moon will definitely give local chain coffee spots some competition. Stopped in for a afternoon pick me up and seeing it's a newer place in the area I wanted to try it. I'm Glad I did. The nice employee explained their menu to me and made suggestions. I usually drink dairy free but opted to have my latte with oat milk but also include the moon juice on top which is made with cream. It tastes a lot like melted ice cream which was very yummy. I went with the half sweetness since I like some sweetness but not too much. I should also mention the shop is adorable, decorated beautifully making it a perfect place to have a coffee with a friend. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

I give two stars because I can never get what I want from this place! They are constantly out of basically the whole food menu. Then, the staff isn't very nice about it to boot. They almost act annoyed when I ask for something-it's an immediate we're out of that. No apologies, no trying to help share what they do have. I have to go through the list of food items and keep being told no, we don't have that, and very matter of factly in an annoyed tone, until maybe I finally get to something they do have. Then, I pull up and barely get greeted-certainly no apology or acknowledgement for not having basically their entire food menu, but they can't wait to immediately throw the credit card machine with tip option in your face. I don't speak for just myself because others I know who go there or have been tell me the same thing! It's not a pleasant experience. The coffee and food (that you might be lucky to get) are very good-literally the only reason I continue to stop by at times. I would definitely go more if I knew I could depend on getting what I want even half the time, or even at least if a friendlier staff were present. The ambiance is perfect until the door opens and then slams shut so loudly that I nearly have a panic attack with the jolt of caffeine in my bloodstream.
