Decided to try this place after playing the slots a little bit. Place was crowded and we were seated almost immediately and we ordered our drinks and we ordered appetizers. One of my friends ordered the raw clams and said they were delicious and i ordered the lobster and fish spring rolls and they were deep fried and stuffed with some creamy type of mushy fish and served with dry slaw in Thai sweet chili sauce. They were greasy and bland. My friend ordered the lobster pot stickers but when you took a bite, there was no lobster to be found just a boring tasteless stuffing of something we couldn't identify inside. My friend ordered the Jasper lobster which was the special on the restaurant and that seemed to be pretty good, I ordered the stuffed shrimp and came to the table looking like dried out blobs of breadcrumbs . It was so salty and stuffed with nothing but breadcrumbs when it was supposed to be stuffed with lobster and crab and so that was sent back. And then figured I'd order the lobster mac & cheese and that was a disappointment as well so I took a few bites and put it to the side. My other friend ordered the scallops and shrimp on a beet purée. She said it was good but to me it looked like a purple mess. The whole place was disappointing and I was Pissed but We ended up spending $85 a piece on this low budget seafood mess. I think I'll just settle for Pepe's pizza next time. I'm really surprised at how many people (including my coworkers) love this place. After hearing so much hoopla, Summer Shack definitely did not live up to my expectations! So I've been craving a good bowl of chicken/shrimp/andouille gumbo since I left Alabama 5 years ago, and was THRILLED to see gumbo on the menu at Summer Shack! I didn't even have to think twice about ordering it. Well, this gumbo ended up being one of the most dissatisfying meals I've ever ordered. It looked and tasted as though someone had thrown a few pieces of shrimp and some bell peppers into a pot of tasteless brown gravy. The texture and flavor were way off. Not to mention, it was incredibly pricey...even for seafood. I normally don't mind shelling out for a delicious, well-prepared seafood dish, but this was not it. Especially since the restaurant's atmosphere isn't all that exciting or fancy, either. Part of me wants to go back and order some pan-seared scallops (or anything other than gumbo) just to give this place another chance, but another part of me just doesn't even want to bother. 2/3/18 (6PM) - We had dined here several times before, but this time was a huge disappointment. There was an Asian concert this wknd at Mohegan Sun. Summer Shack was crowded just like every other restaurant. Out of nowhere, this short guy with a beard (whom I believe is the manager) walks out saying, "It's like China here!!" This made us walk right back out. I also heard him yelling at customers with baby strollers that they must leave them outside. If you can't handle the pressure in the service industry, maybe they should get a job where you can hide your disgusting scowl ! The two young hostesses who work with him also appear to have issues with pressure, as they too were treating customers disrespectfully. Disgusting Manager!Terrible. Mussels, steamers, swordfish, crab and Jasper's fried chicken were all yummy! The fried chicken was almost as good as my mom's... The chicken would have been better if it came with something else besides mash. I don't know maybe like slaw or corn or something... stumbled across summer shack while perusing the mohegan sun website for potential lunch spots - as a fan of all things seafood i was instantly intrigued by their offerings, and decided to check them out...in the end, it turned out to be a wise choice first, the staff: from start to finish the folks here could not have been nicer, every staff member i encountered was super friendly & helpful, especially my server whitney who was nothing short of awesome, she made sure i had everything i needed and that my drink was never empty for more than a few seconds as for the food, it was mostly wonderful - at whitney's recommendation i started with the corn & crab bites: hot, crispy, very flavorful & clearly made with fresh crab meat...my fried oysters entree was also very well put together and i thoroughly enjoyed it...the only slight miss was the blueberry pie i had for dessert (compliments of the free dessert coupon you get for checking in on yelp!), it wasn't bad but at the same time wasn't something i'd go looking for again either overall a great spot for a nice meal if you're at mohegan sun read more

Alex, our server, is the only reason that I rate this restaurant a third star. I broke my first rule of eating seafood in New England and shame on me! Don't Order Shrimp in New England once you've enjoyed it down south! We ordered a hot buttered Lobster Roll and Baked Stuffed Shrimp and while the Lobster Roll was full of large pieces of lobster the stuffed shrimp was so over cooked I couldn't get the shells off the tales. the stuffing was supposed to be crab and lobster but I never saw a piece nor tasted either. As the name of the restaurant suggests, the theme of this restaurant is based on the idea of a coastal summer seafood shack. Anyone who has been to a seafood shack knows what to expect - good fresh food prepared simply. You're not going to find high-end 5 star creations at a shack. You're going to find fried clams, lobster rolls, steamed mussels, etc. We had dinner here about 8pm on a busy Saturday night. We sat in the lounge area behind the bar. The decor is supposed to be rustic and casual, but it could use some work in the cleanliness department. There were some stains on our table when we sat down, and the floor looked like there were some spills on it. I had the Steamed Mussels with a Mixed Greens Salad. The Steamed Mussels are now tied with some of the best I've ever had! Steamed in butter, white wine, and handfuls of fresh herbs. I've never seen so many fresh herbs in a pile of steamed clams before! I must have picked out at least 7 whole bay leaves. The steaming liquid was a delicious broth full of chopped tarragon and chives. So good that I spooned it on top of my salad and used it as a dressing instead of the vinaigrette that they provided. I then dipped every last piece of bread into that buttery yumminess to soak up as much of it as I could. Just thinking of it makes my mouth water... Let's see what else we had at our table... The Cod Cakes with Baked Beans and Brown Bread was praised and enjoyed. The Grilled Shrimp Caesar Salad was a basic caesar salad served with a skewer of grilled shrimp. It was basic, but good. The least favorably received dish was the Veggie Wrap - veggies and cheese in a wrap served with a side of fries. I guess it's one of their vegetarian options on the menu for people who don't eat meat or fish. It was edible, but nothing to recommend, and most likely would not be ordered again if we were to return. The speed of the service was average - neither fast nor slow. The three-star average for this place is spot on. Decent draft list, adequate service, and passable food. I recommend sticking to the raw bar and the seafood specials on the board. If you like flavorful, reasonably priced seafood dishes, then the bluefish special is always a good choice. It's a serious plate of food for $20. The standard menu is inconsistently priced at best, the complimentary cornbread is always dry, and clam chowder is always lacking clams (but it's free if you check in on the Yelp app). Came with a party of four. Waiter asked if we wanted to start with drinks. Three different beers, a Bloody Mary and the gals ordered two waters. Waiter came back with four beers and a water two beers were correct and maybe one of the beers was mine but then he saw the bug in it. I'll get you a new one and the Bloody Mary. Came back with the drinks and after a while asks if we wanted to start with corn bread and rolls. We said okay and then the entrees came out, then out comes the rolls. Nothing was horrible but as I ate the fish sandwich I got a nice 6-8" blond hair. Check comes and the mystery 4th beer we didn't order made it on the bill. read more

This restaurant is in one of the food court's of Mohegan Sun. This one was the busiest of all the restaurants in that food court, so I thought it would be good. They have an actual Summer Shack somewhere else in the casino, so you would think it would be just as good. The prices were outrageous. I felt like I was at an amusement park getting ripped off. Ouch....... I ordered a hot dog, which was super small for $5, clam chowder, and beer, which total came out to $17. The hot dog was small and whatever. The toppings were out of small condiment packages. They can't serve fresh toppings? The clam chowder was runny and wasn't flavorful. It needed pepper, which they didn't provide or even leave out for easy access. I was going to ask them for some, but they are way too busy for how not good the food is. read more

Unexpectedly good food but so-so service at the Summer Shack location at Mohegan Sun. If, like us, you're there for a concert, give it a try. We had the crab cake and Yucatan shrimp appetizers and the ahi tuna entree. All were fresh and tasty. I prefer this kind of food to the many fried options the others around us were having, but if you're a fried seafood kinda guy, there's plenty for you too. Not bad! We had the crab legs, mussels, and jumbo shrimp. Food was decent, came out quickly, and we also enjoyed the complementary corn bread (probably one of the best I have ever had - warm, fresh, tasty!!!!!). I am giving a 4 not a 5 star rating because I thought the drink was underwhelming and overall not that great- I had a pear martini, which I do not recommend even though bartender assured me it was a good choice. Fresh seafood is the specialty at this restaurant with a very open kitchen (while waiting for a table I saw some people's dinner killed right in front of me). Executive Chef Jasper White was on hand the night I dined there. Nice guy. I met him when I ran smack into him in a hallway by the kitchen. he seemed very concerned that I'd enjoyed my dinner. Boy, did I ever! (How could I not, with a motto of "Food is Love"?) The fried oysters where crispy, but not terribly greasy. The pan-roasted was amazing. D and I went here on our last winery excursion touring the eastern side of CT. We made stop at Mohegan for dinner and ultimately decided on the Summer Shack. Two words. Lobster Meatloaf. Now I know what you are thinking...is it beef with lobster mixed in? Is it ground up lobster and made similar to a traditional meatloaf? Or some kind of crazy combination that you've never heard of before? Of all three I'd say it was the latter most. Definitely a must try. D got one of the fish specials of which I cannot recall at this juncture in time, but I do know that it was fresh, delicious, and very pleasing. Been a few times and always a solid seafood meal. It's like a taste of New England in every bite. Chowda is legit as are the lightly breaded Ipswich clams. You can actually taste the freshness of the lobster, they don't mask it with a bunch of mayo. Same can't be said for the crab club sandwich. It's ok, but you taste more of everything else than the crab. Kettle chips served with the sandwiches add a good crunch. Tasty cornbread too. The place is large, kitchen is open and the live seafood is visible in tanks. Casual destination at Mohegan as long as you didn't lose your shirt at the tables because it's a bit pricey. read more

Our go-to place at Mohegan. Always a great seafood experience. Our server, Chris, was so attentive and understanding of my wife's gluten-free needs (celiac). We had the grilled squid special with rice substituted and a mango-ginger salsa that was perfect. I had lobster potstickers which were a bit too salty but tasty. This is a "Dirty Harry" restaurant. "Are you feeling lucky (tonight) punk?" Had good food as we usually do here but apparently we were not to receive service from our waiter. Yes, waiter. Because waiters wait and servers serve. He waited. Waited to deliver appetizers til the entrees were delivered. Waited to deliver a beer that had been ordered early into the entrees (and late appetizer) until I went to the bar to order one - waiter said what is it you want when he encountered me at the bar. I told him the beer that was ordered 20 minutes ago. There it is he pointed to the now less than fresh beer in tall mug that was sitting undelivered on the bar. When I went to get it he insisted on delivering it. Then he waited to give us our check, and we waited again for him to come pick up the credit card until we waited enough and went to the host station to have the Payment processed. Hostess asked how things were and we told her - horrible service. We waited for some reaction. Again, waited but no service. So are you feeling lucky? Maybe you have the service experience you want. Maybe you wait like we did. Dirty Harrys place in Carmel wouldn't put up with that kind of service. Neither should you. read more

The summer shack is a decent seafood place at Mohegan Sun Casino. This should set off warning bells. Location. It's in the casino. That means that it's 'easy' to get to, since there are signs directing you there for miles in every direction. Once you get into the casino, be sure to consult the map there. Hahahaha, you fool, the casino floor map is useless, they want you to get lost in there and never get out. Truthfully, once you manage to find the shop/restaurant area, it's not that hard to find the shack. Ambiance. Normally I wouldn't comment on this, but it struck me. This place is super noisy. I know that's some kind of charm or something, but barf. Also, there is an indoor waterfall outside, so bonus cool points, but negative noise points. Also, you're not technically in CT anymore, so welcome back indoor smoking. Size. This place is pretty damn big, it seems that most of the restaurants are, so even if we hadn't gotten a reservation, I doubt we would have had trouble getting a seat for our group of eight. Food. Finally to the food. I got the Blue Fish special they had. The fish came out seared just right, flavorful and flaky tender. The orzo pasta that came with it was a bit mushy, so that put me off, and the veggie side was some tomato/onion/caper situation, which came in to save the orzo pasta from its mediocrity. Oh, they also start you with some bread (meh) and cornbread (dry, but hey it's still cornbread). Price. You're at the casino, what do you think? It's markup city here. My plate cost $20, and honestly could have been a bit bigger, but I wouldn't say I felt ripped off or anything. Service. I wasn't really paying attention, but while the server was quick and attentive, the food was somewhat slow in coming out. Overall. It's not a bad place, but because of where it is and the price, I can't give it more than three. If you're going to be at the casino, give it a try, but sure don't go out of your way. read more

The seafood is fresh and you can have it anyway you wish... fried, raw, grilled, etc. Always check the giant chalkboards located throughout the restaurant as they list the daily specials which are usually worth ordering. I'll usually start my meal with half dozen littlenecks or some oysters. The Summer Shack has a rotating list of raw bar items. Usually there are about 3 different clams and oysters to choose from. For a meal I really love the Rhode Island style calamari. It is fried calamari mixed with cherry peppers. I also have had lobster, grilled salmon, and a lobster roll, all of which were really good. The Summer Shack also has an awesome beet salad which I usually order too. Service is quick as with almost every restaurant at the casino. I guess they really want you to get back out to the slots. read more

I just love something like that that is home made and you can only get in one place. Last night my brother and I sat at the bar, which was a lively scene, and enjoyed raw oysters, which were just great. I had the grilled squid, which arrived cold, was sent back and arrived back hot and atop a small salad of mixed greens with two pieces of delicious toast. Then we shared the grilled bluefish, at the bartender's suggestion, and that was spectacular. Very flavorful with a salsa and onion mixture. Last summer, I went for lunch here with my sister and we ordered grilled sardines, which I had never had. They were perfection! They must be seasonal, though, as you don't come across them often. And, they ruined me for the canned variety. I've been to this restaurant many times as I live nearby and I've never had a bad meal. Great, great seafood. read more

By far the best dining option at Mohegan Sun IMHO. Raw bar here is always top-quality (top $ too!) But oysters, clams, shrimp cocktail above reproach. They also aren't afraid to run 'oily' fish: mackerel, bluefish, sardines, as daily specials. I love oily fish, so that's much appreciated! It is more casual than the 'fine dining' establishments across the way, but on most nights and especially week-end nights, it isn't any cheaper. Weekday lunch can be good value. Points off because 1) they sometimes like to cook the crap out of their fish. 2) Mains tend to be on the small side. 3) Lobster prices are astronomical. 4)service is occasionally a bit too informal. read more

If you're in Mohegan Sun, and you don't want to travel far, AND you don't want to spend too much, this is an OK spot. I sat at the bar and the service was good. I got the lobster sandwich, which was not bad. The size of the sandwich was good, and it was accompanied by a LOT of fries, which were also fried well. The price is fair. read more

Went to beach boys concert on 5/12/2012 and stopped in Summer Shack which is a restaurant on food level within Mohegan Sun. This like other restaurants there is way overpriced for average food. Crowded atmosphere and noisy so do not expect to hear yourself think about what your eating. It might be quieter during the week, but 52.00 for a fish sandwich, crabmeat club, calamari, one glass of wine and a coke = rip off. No reason why this overrated casino needs to rip you off on food when they are already ripping you off in the casino! read more

Pan fried lobster still out of our budget (unless you WIN in the casino) so we stuck with salmon and bluefish served with a few slaw strands. Wine paired nicely. I went there with friends before the show starts at the mohegan arena on Saturday. While we had to wait for about 20 minutes, they have a very efficient text system that allows you to wander around until the table is ready. We ordered some pan roasted lobsters, clams, and salads. While the seafood was fantastic, salad came out all soggy and disgusting. It was not at all worth money! I still give four stars because the service was great and the main dish was satisfying. read more
