I love this local shop! I feel very lucky to have found them driving by. My husband and I trust these guys 100% with all our SKI gear. We are big into skiing and tune-ups are really important to us. They do a darn good job!! Everyone that works there is really nice and you can tell they like what they do. Also, they are very honest. I've rented skis from these guys twice now. Very friendly, fast, and convenient. Renting from them is much cheaper than renting on the mountain too. After you rent from them the first time, they will save your equipment info so the next time you can just call ahead and they will have everything ready to go for you. This shop is the prime example why certain mom and pop owned retail shops are becoming dinosaurs. I had to find a place to get a base grind for my snowboard for a last minute trip. I called them in the early afternoon and asked if they had a base grinder and the gentleman on the phone confirmed they did. I usually work on my own snowboards but this particular board needed a base grind, something usually found only in a snowboard shop. After I was done with my classes at ucla, I head over the shop located in Playa del Rey during rush hour traffic and get there 45 minutes before closing time. I walk in and the same fella I spoke to on the phone happens to greet me. Great! He grabs the board and says I should have been there hours ago as he suggested on the phone yet starts walking towards the base grinder with my snowboard. By the base grinder, an older gentleman was sitting and resting against the machine. The guy holding my board ask the resting employee if he can run my board through the machine (mind you this is happening in plain view right in front of me). The guy resting then points at a pile of skis and snowboards and says "I gotta do those first! NO!" So the 1st employee who has my board turns around and tells me once again that I should have came in earlier and they can't grind my base. Are you joking? I just drove from Westwood to Playa Dell Rey and they're turning a paying customer away? I told the 1st guy that hey I just drove across town to get here and please just donit, it takes less than 5 minutes, but I was told to come back another time. Another time? I'm not ever stepping back to this shop and it won't be long they too go out of businsss. I ended up driving back to West LA and got my repair items from Sport Chalet (I rather spend my money at a local biz but I had no choice here) then used Stick Docs pick up and drop off snowboard repair service to get my board tuned. read more

I'm really disappointed! I've been here before and they were great. I borrowed my parent's bike which hasn't been used in forever. I brought it to the store and I asked the guy if he thinks it needs air in the tires or anything else. He looks at it & says it could use some air. I asked him can you do that? He hands me the pump, tells me it should be at 60 and walks away. I know nothing at all about bikes. I don't know what 60 means or how to measure it. I have never touched a tire pump in my life and I feel pretty stupid. This is why I went to a bike shop so that they could help me. So I start trying to figure out how to use the pump, he comes back and says you need to flip this part up. Then he walks away again. So I tried to figure out what to do, I pumped some air in and then decided to give up. I don't trust myself to do it correctly, so I'm not going to ride the bike. I think I made it pretty clear that I don't know what I'm doing. He should have helped me instead of walking away twice. There was another guy who saw me come into the store, but he didn't try to help me either. Unfortunately I won't be returning. read more

I used to love Summit Ski & Cycle, but it seems that their customer service standards have gone way down. I recently went in on a weekday late afternoon (not busy at all, in fact we were the only customers in the shop), and none of the three staff members - including the owner - bothered to ask us if we needed help. I asked about renting some skis for my son, and the guy working the cash register looked up from his lunch said "when do you need 'em?" I told him I needed them today (which has never been a problem in the past), and the guy shook his head and told us they didn't have anything, without even bothering to take a look at the inventory. The owner didn't even get involved in the conversation to see if he could help us. Then I asked if they had any recommendations for a place that might have skis for my son, and he shrugged his shoulders and said "Sports Chalet?" And guess what, I went to Sports Chalet and they were helpful and have way better gear than Summit does. I'd always rather give my business to a small shop like Summit, but after my latest experience there I think I'll take the guy's advice and go to Sports Chalet from now on. read more

My first experience with this shop, and at the beginning when they took my skis in for a tune up, I was hopeful. I asked for a bottom grind and an edge file. The younger man asked if I wanted a wax and I said sure. I pointed out that I was missing a screw on one of my ski brakes, and he said they would take care of that for me. Nice guy wrote me up on a ticket and said my skis would be ready in a week. I came back to pick them up and upon inspection, the screw that was missing was not replaced. I asked about that, and the older gentleman who was there, stated he could not find a screw to fit. Ok whatever. They didn't seem to care about me or working on fixing it one bit. It actually seemed that they were angry at me for noticing that they did nothing about it. I then checked out the edges, to see how sharp they were. They were sharp, but they neglected to take off the burr off of the sides of the sharpened edges. I asked why they didn't take off the burr, and once again, they got mad at me for noticing their lack of care on this simple ski tune. The greatest part was, being a former ski tuner myself, I called them out on their work. The older guy who works there , tried to justify why he didn't take off the burr on the edge and tried to neglect my observation, and they didn't even want to cop to their work. Not to mention the lack of care about wether their customer was correct or not. What is up with people these days? They really made me lose any respect for them with their attitude. They could have tried to make good or be nice to a NEW CUSTOMER, but no. They could not. They had to be right. Well,,,, Maybe next time they will try to do a better job a simple pair of skis that just needed a little TLC for a new customer. Dont think people don't notice the details guys. We do. read more

Came here for a snowboard tune... Service was great, they turned my board around in a couple of days - it had a decent number of gouges in the bottom thanks to the relatively poor conditions last year, and now it feels nice and smooth and ready for Utah! Parking during the day (before 3:30PM) is easy on the street, otherwise you're going to have to use the lot right behind that has about 3-4 parking spaces.... The staff here is so nice. The store is a little messy and unorganized but if you ask them for what you need they will get it for you right away. They literally dropped what they were doing/working on to help me when I walked in the door. I really felt like a valued customer. This was my first time here. I came for new tires on my bike which I haven't ridden in years. I had no idea what to expect when I walked in. I am not knowledgeable in any way when it comes to bicycles so I had hoped that they would've explained to me more clearly what they were going to replace. It turns out that I only needed new "tubes" which are inflatable "balloons" that go in the tires when they no longer inflate. The tubes were cheap and the service was fast. I had a great experience here and will definitely be going back with any bike concerns. I brought in my old (vintage?) bike, because I wanted a rack over the back wheel installed. Since my bike is so old, it didn't have the correct mounts for a run-of-the-mill rack, so they had to order a particular one for me. I left my bike for 2 days and came back to find the rack installed and looking good. All this (rack, extra parts, labor) cost $40. Plus, the guy who helped me was super friendly and chill. Summit Ski & Cycle is a great Westchester/Playa del Rey neighborhood shop. I recently needed a last minute tune-up on my wife's bike because I had a friend drop by and wanted to go on a beach cruise. They were easy going about accommodating my need to have it tuned up within a couple of hours. They replaced both tubes, lubed and safety checked for 30 clams. Great price, great service and great work. What more can you ask for from a local shop. I don't think they sell new ski's but they do preseason tune-ups and I'll be dropping my boards off before this season gets underway! Highly recommended! read more

We came here because my boyfriend's wheelchair tire popped on vacation, the day before we went to Disneyland. My BF called before hand to see how much the tube and labor were, and I have no idea about that stuff, but my BF said it was very reasonably priced. Altogether it was $14. Unfortunately, my BF hadn't given them the correct size for his tube so when we got there they didn't have the correct size in stock. The gentleman that helped us went out of his way to fix the tire with what he had in stock! I think most people would have just said "tough luck" and not even tried to help. We are so grateful for the excellent service and extremely happy that we didn't have to try to go somewhere else for a new tube before heading to the park the next morning! read more

We were pleased with our first experience here. Our bikes had been collecting dust on the balcony and we brought them in for full tuneups. The staff was friendly and responsive via email and phone. They let us know ahead of time what (additional) repairs needed to be made and what it would cost. Prices were reasonable and we appreciated they didn't try to upsell. Called because I'm looking to rent (and eventually buy) ski boots. I was curious if I could come in and try on/see how boots fit for rental. The person I spoke with wouldn't even let me get a word in and kept saying "we don't sell boots" despite my efforts to explain I was hoping to try on for rentals. I'm frustrated with the poor customer service here, and how I was unable to get a word in. Was hopeful that I had found a go-to shop for my ski needs. I wanted to take the time and write about my experience at Summit Ski & Cycle. I had been a little nervous to take my bike in and get it fitted for SPD pedals however the day finally arrived. Ian answered all of my questions, helped me understand the different variations in bike pedals and I found that I was walking out with my first pair of shoes with cleats and my snazzy pedals. Time to bike! I didn't. Time lapsed and when I tried, I found that I had psyched myself out. So bike, shoes, and I went into the bicycle shop where I discovered a very patient teacher, Chris. He set up a stationary bike and help me practice clicking in and out of the pedals. He gave me techniques that would help me when I would have to stop. I am very happy to say that I have been out a few times now and love my pedals from Summit Ski and Cycle. Of course it has opened up an entirely new can of worms for me -- shifting gears properly! read more

Excellent hands on care for any of your biking needs. Jason is wonderful and nice at prioritizing, the last few flat tires I had he fixed them right on the spot. I had a series of bad luck in tires where every couple of days a thorn would send me back to the shop. Jason put a brand new tire on with Puncture Technology and I was set to go in 15 minutes for $50. Normally for a regular tube change its about $12-$14 for my one speed fixie bike.
