We don't live real close, plenty of places to eat between here and there. Tonight I said, let's go to Summits. We used to live closer and come more often. We got here, the place was busy, lots of cars in the lot, but they seated us right away. We were maybe in our seats 20 seconds and they had our drink order, another 2 minutes we had our cold drinks. Another 5, we had some food. The wings and the blue cheese chips were to die for. To be honest, we were blown away. We always loved it here, the variety of beers and the atmosphere is great. I got the giant pretzel for an appetizer, it's big enough to split between two people. Came out piping hot and needed to wait for it to cool down but once it did, it was excellent with the cheese dip! My friend ordered a burger that she said was excellent and ate all of very fast, but the bacon seemed a little flimsy and she suspected wasn't cooked enough. She set it to the side. I got the fish and chips, though I wasn't supposing that it would be SINGULAR fish and chips because it was only one largish piece of fish. It was good, but I really would have appreciated two of them at least, even if the size was a bit smaller. The fries on my plate were left mostly untouched because it seems like they went a bit nuts on the spices. I like spicy food every once in a while but these seemed a bit too much, it was hard to tell the color of the fries through the layer of spice. I got the beignet straws for dessert and shared them with my friend but we ended up eating about 8 of them and packing up the rest, they were drenched in grease and the powdered sugar didn't quite absorb it all. They were absolutely excellent with the caramel though! Later in the day I did get a bit sick from the amount of grease in the food I ate but I would be lying if I said the appetizer and main course didn't taste great! Would give a pass to the dessert next time though and just get the chocolate cake. read more

Service was better than in the past, we went for the all you can eat crab legs, skip this, I forgot why I stopped going for them in the first place a couple of years ago. They suck! The fries are really good and the burger choices looked really good since they changed the menu so I will be back to try that. Today I went here with my fiancée for the first time, and even though the previous reviews worried me slightly as far as the prices go, I figured that we're frugal and conscientious enough that we'd be okay. Wrong. Not only did we get charged extra for asking for ranch, we got charge a DOLLAR! And it wasn't even as much ranch as I normally ask for! I have never heard of a place charging more than about .50 max for dipping sauce. Unreal. And to top it off service was awkward, poor, we were checked on once the entire time we were there even though it wasn't busy at all, and then we waited for well over 10 minutes to get the check. I haven't been to the Summit in a long time and decided to stop in and eat with my family. I was very disappointed in the Kobe burger and also the prices. Our burgers were $15 each and they were just OK the fries were not very good at all the only good thing I can say about what I did try there were the wings other than that I probably won't come back. My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for so long, because of their Wednesday night, all you can eat crab legs. We finally made it in tonight and let me just say.... we were severely underwhelmed at the sheer lack of flavor in the legs. The drawn butter tasted like a boiled egg. The shrimp and corn chowder were flavorless as well, but the Tabasco heat was way overdone.... maybe to mask the lack of flavor? I don't know. We hadn't been in for awhile, but we received an email with their "Octoberfest" menu. My husband is from Indiana, and one thing he misses is a good pork tenderloin sandwich. The menu contained such a sandwich, on a pretzel roll. So we had to go. Never again! When he placed his order, he asked that they leave off the sauce, and he ordered a side of potato pancakes. The sandwich arrived - 3 extremely thin breaded pork loins piled on top of each other, on a sandwich roll. - not a pretzel roll, and smothered with a sauce that reeked of garlic. So we had to send the sandwich back and asked again for one without the sauce. It took a little time, but finally the sandwich was delivered. This time, the heavily breaded pork loins were very much overcooked, nearly burnt. Not wanting to go through the exercise of sending it back again, he ate the sandwich, but it was obviously very much below expectations. He later described the sandwich as dry, overcooked, and lacking flavor. I ate a little of his potato pancakes, and I would use the same description for those. So, Total bust on getting the special pork tenderloin sandwich. Just a lot of overcooked breading on a sandwich roll. My sandwich was a little better. I had the chicken & spinach sandwich. It was fine - not great. I was surprised that the spinach was cooked, making the spinach the dominant flavor of the sandwich. The fries were okay, but over seasoned with some kind of pepper blend. As for drinks, he asked for a beer suggestion - not a big beer drinker, so wanted something light. Our young waitress likely didn't know enough about beers to be making suggestions, but she pointed one out for him. He thought the beer had a funny taste, and only drank 1/2 of his $6.99 draft beer. I asked for a wine list, but they don't have one, so I asked for a glass of Pinot Grigio. $5.99 for a small pour of a very inexpensive wine. So, we're done with Summits. For the prices they charge, and the disappointing meal, we can do much better elsewhere. read more

Dinner tonight at the Summit Wayside Tavern was not only bad, it was literally one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had in my life. For someone whose 47 and eats out multiple times per week, that's saying something. I used to eat at Summit at least a few times per year and it's been two years since my last visit. This was my absolute final visit ever. Let's begin with the beers. We purposely chose Summit because of the beer selection for my visiting mother-in-law. She always manages to find great craft beers in Pennsylvania when we visit so we thought we would return the favor by bringing her to a place with a wealth of different choices. Her first three choices were out. Not only were they out, the waitress didn't know they were out, only to tell us after being gone for about 5 minutes and then coming back to tell my mother-in-law the beer of choice was out. On the fourth try she finally got a beer to drink. Now on to the meal. There were four of us. All ordered some variation of a burger. Should be the simplest thing on a menu for a sports bar restaurant to make, next to the chicken wings. All were ordered medium. Three of the four came out well done. Two of my companions decided to eat their burgers because they were covered with horseradish, onions and a wealth of other toppings so they had enough juice they decided to make the best with what they had. Mine was the Pittsburgh Garbage Burger and was so well done it was utterly dry. The waitress reaction was "yours too? I just had another table the same thing happened." I sent the burger back. 20 minutes later another waitress came by the table and asked "who had the well done burger? It'll be a few more minutes, sorry." 45 minutes after sending back the original burger, our waitress finally brought out a new platter. "I'm sorry it took so long, they cooked the second burger well done too." The second burger. If you're keeping score at home, that's 4 burgers for the same table improperly cooked plus however many other tables they did the same thing. Not that anyone bothered to tell us this had happened, she just saved the surprise until the third burger was brought out 45 minutes after the first was sent back. Everyone else was completely finished and had their plates completely cleared away by this point. I was so disgusted I told her to just box it up and I'll take it home to the dog. No management came to the table. No explanation of why the kitchen in a sports bar can't cook a very simple medium burger. For the pleasure of sitting and watching my three companions eat dinner, I was charged full price for the meal which had to be cooked three times and was delivered in over 1 hour from the original order on a night where the restaurant was maybe 50% full. For a burger. It's not the waitresses fault, though we did let her know we were utterly disappointed with the handling of four improperly cooked meals and for the full charge for mine on top of everything else. She asked if we wanted to see a manager. At that point, there's no reason to see management. They've spoken loud and clear about Customer Satisfaction with the full charge for the meal. I really felt like I was in an episode of "Kitchen Nightmares" and kept waiting to see Gordon Ramsay walk through the restaurant. I used to really enjoy this restaurant but it's obvious something had changed and the former standards are not even remotely being met. I enjoy good food, I accept that mistakes are sometimes made, but it's how the restaurant responds to those mistakes that determines if I will spend another dime in an establishment. Folks there are simply too many good restaurants in this region to waste your dollars on poor customer service by management who appears to simply not care about what the kitchen is putting out. As a local, there is no way that I could recommend this restaurant to anyone reading this review. If you really want some good sports bar / burger / wings look elsewhere on this site for a better choice. If you're curious about that last burger, number three, that they brought out and whether it was cooked properly or not, I honestly have no clue, but the dog seemed to enjoy it. read more

I enjoyed my auce crab leg experience at this location. Our server ROCKED! She was like I am going to keep them going as long as you want. She had the timing for the next round of legs down pat! I also enjoyed the slight kick in the jalapeno slaw. The soup it came with was also quite good. My only hang up with this place is the price of the beers. They have a huge selection but it is very expensive to drink here. I will come back to try some of the other food at some point. read more

This is a bar. They serve pub grub. There is no mistaking that this is not a Michelin starred establishment. Its a casual place where you wont be surprised to see a little league team and parents or a group of people after a dirty day on their work shift. I've been here a few times, out of convenience and because I just happened to be in the area and wanted to feel anonymous and have a couple drinks. I think its somewhat odd how extensive the beer list is yet when I ask for a beer, whether it was something foreign or even domestic, I've had the misfortune of requesting something they 'just ran out' of or wasn't available anymore. The bartenders have always been friendly but haven't been able to recommend a comparable beer they didn't have. Sure, their beer selection is over 50 but recommendations usually start with, 'a lot of people get (enter beer name here).' This is definitely somewhere you'll find locals. and if not, you can always find them a couple blocks away up the hill at the irish pub next to the movie theater. This place is definitely a option if you're looking to pass time with a cold beer. read more

Came in did the first time tonight looking for some wings. We are new to the area having just moved to cummimg from Alpharetta so we thought we'd give it a try. When we walked in we were greeted by a funky stale beer smell. We sat at the bar and were taken care of by an attentive bar tender. Asked him what was good and he said burgers. The menu is no kidding 6 freakin pages long. Asian noodle bowls- kimchi- burgers- rueben sandwich... Huh? This place had a major identity crisis and there is no way they do all those menu items well. There aren't enough customers to have all those ingredients fresh. Seems like a Middle Aged bar for the most part. The bar has mugs hanging from it and they are absolutely filthy. I was a regular here for many years before I moved out of the county. I do come back with family and friends still, which is why we came here the other night. I am a fan of Taco Mac, though I always save a spot in my heart for Summits (this location only). Why? The bar has the most beer on tap, an alcoholic could stand there in awe looking at the wall of beer and liquor. They still have pint night on select days, drink the beer and keep the glass on the beer of the night. This is the reason I have an extensive beer glass collection that takes up too much space in the kitchen cabinets. The portions are large so there's usually a take home box involved. To me, the wings taste the same as Taco Mac and Roosters, but I prefer to get the hot chicken tenderloins to avoid the whole messing with bones process. I recommend eating everything here, except for the fajitas and the onion rings. I absolutely LOVE onion rings, and I didn't think they could be messed up, but Summits managed to pull it off which is the whole reason I give 4 stars instead of 5. The menu says they use a beer batter, though it is crumbly and flaky and sort of has the consistency of a cornbread batter. It's just not how I like my onion rings, and I've tried them more than once to make sure. The house salad has honey mustard pretzel pieces instead of croutons and is delicious. The TM bells on the outside of the building still chime every 15 minutes. read more

Okay, so Summit's Wayside is pretty much the best gastro-pub I've ever been to... Firstly, if you have the pleasure of being in the area around Oktoberfest, do yourself a favor and stop in... A large selection of world Marzen-styled beers are available, as well as some of the most traditional German foods I've had the pleasure of enjoying. For the most part, the food is generous in portion and of good quality. Now, for the most beautiful sight my eyes have laid upon... the beer tap wall... Yeah, a wall of taps, not but 3 inches from one another, for easily a length of 45 feet. Oh, and yeah, thats above ANOTHER row of taps the same way! I remember hearing that it number around 186 beers ON DRAFT! Outside of that list is the bottled beer selection: some 100+ other beers that increase in variety from Brazil to Lithuania! Not to be outdone to the walls of beer are the full bar and the library stack style top shelf of scotches and bourbons. Simply sinful... They have the "Passport Club' which rewards drinkers for the consumption of varieties of beer. Signing up for this garners rewards after certain numbers of drinks, including larger pours for the base price, labeled glassware, beer steins, pull-overs, and more. Definitely worth taking advantage of... Hard to control yourself when looking at the tap wall though, I highly recommend starting with the bottle beer... once you get through them, you'll earn rewards on oversized pours for the draft wall. Otherwise, once you've done the draft wall, you don't get to benefit from the extra pourage since you're left with the bottles... read more

This is a great place to hang out with friends or catch a game. I've been told this used to be a taco Mac and from what I see I believe it. And that is a good thing. They have plenty of beers on tap and many on bottle. The service is always good here. Every once in a while they won't have your draft selection though. As for the atmosphere it is a typical sports bar. It could use some updating with the old CRT TVs all around. But it is fun and very clean. They have many fun activities each week. My favorite are the trivia nights on Wednesday and Friday. Lastly and most importantly is the food. It is always fresh. I absolutely love their wings and the sauces taste just like taco Mac. The burgers are good as well. But the crowning achievement is the unlimited crab legs on Wednesday. They are fresh and large unlike what you would get at a china buffet. For dessert the beignet sticks are a must. Overall this place gets a 4 out of 5 only because of the somewhat outdated structure. read more

At first I thought it was because I was getting high end stuff, but I even paid $6 for a pint of Guiness and something from Red Brick. Summits has cleaned up and done much better lately with both the food and service. The last few times I have been in the food is quite good. Of course the real reason to go here is for the beer. If they don't have it, it's probably not poured in Georgia. The menu is very broad and most of it is well done. For the burger, the Kenmore is the one. Our waitress was phenomenal and extremely knowledgeable about my beer choices, (Straffe Hendrix Quad)The blond brownie desert was awesome, just a really great experience as usual. Some of the best wings I have ever had. Our favorite thing on the menu is Chicko's Nachos without the Queso. Service can be spotty. We have waited 20 minutes for a check. But most times, we are in and out of there even with large groups. It is on our normal rotation of places to eat and the kids love it as well! read more

Came here for some seafood they didn't have it and the minute I walked into the establishment and some guys where having a conversation saying minorities is the problem of course that bothered me the prices are ridiculous $6.99 for a short glass of ale I'm not mad but the place was especially weird no one greeted us until we sat down. But we sat and watched the bartender greet other pedestrians of course we didn't look like them ‍I would say it's because we are black but then again to them we where I'm actually of no African decent but European Native and Spanish decent but still thank you all for being rude our waitress was very NICE I can tell he didn't like the vibe that was giving towards us !!!! Went there on 2-5-14 and had the all you can eat crab legs. I must admit that it was a wonderful experience. The corn and shrimp chowder was just alright. The cornbread was great and the crab legs were perfect. I liked the fact that we never had to wait for refills and that all the servers had worked as a team to make sure you were taken care of. Our server went above and beyond and I wish I could remember her name so I could praise her. She introduced herself and it is my fault for not remembering, but as far as I could see they were all good servers. I will surely be going back for crab legs and even some other nights to try some of their other foods. Omg... if you are ever in the Cumming area, you have to stop by Summits Wayside Tavern. They have some of the best burgers. First time i had a thai burger. Pure awesomeness. Cooked just the way i asked and full of flavor.I had to stop here one more time before I left to try another one of their creations. Thekorean short rib. This one was just as amazing as the last. Worth every calorie even though I could only eat half of my plate. I am not a burger person and can count on my hand how many times I eat one a year but this was worth it. And to add to the experience, the staff is friendly and helpful. Great place to watch sports with plenty of flat screens and over 140 beers on tap. read more

Must say I was just so disappointed in the food tonight. Ordered off their Oktoberfest menu and the server failed to tell me that they were missing ingredients. The food was way over cooked and horrible. The server comp'd my meal but when I asked for what I thought was the 'sauce' on my sandwich and he brought out Ranch dressing of which he charged me for, that took the cake. This is by far, the best place in Cumming to enjoy a beer. It has a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of T.V.'s to watch the game, the menu is diverse, the beer selection is definitely better than Taco Mac. I like TM, but it "Feels" like a chain restaurant- Summits is more personalized as the servers have good knowledge of the beers that they offer, and often take a minute to help you make the right choice based on your preferences. Another neat thing about Summits is that every so often, they offer Tastings of beers. This is usually done in the form of a Dinner, you'll need to purchase tickets for this in advance, but it's well worth it- they close the place down, and serve only those with the tickets- an entire dinner, with a true variety of often rare beer selections, paired with fare from around the world. read more

Maybe it was because I came in early on a Friday but the burger I got, Thai burger, was cooked perfect and the taste was outstanding! Bar staff was attentive and friendly, using my name when asking me if i needed anything. Not just a great place for beer, they have a good wine list as well.
