    Koh Galbi Jjim

Celebrating a graduation with a party of 7. First timer here! Made our way to the Sawtelle location. 2 Interesting/Things to note: Had to pre-order our food outside. BEFORE being seated. Unlimited rice Maybe this style of Galbi is more traditional and I have been eating a different style my entire life (soy sauce/ginger/garlic base). Our party ordered 2 large sharing dishes: Galbi Jjim and the Koh Galbi Jjim which included oxtail. The plates fed more than our party size and there was plenty to take home. Spice level was a 2 and was not too spicy for most of us. Too spicy for mom though. The water dumplings were basically inhaled. Apparently, they were too good to last. Everything on the plate was delicious (meat, potatoes, rice cakes). Matthew was super helpful in taking our order, giving us "newbies" some intel on how it works/ how much we should order, and checking on our rice bowls that were slow coming, etc. Saving the cheese topper for next time. Clean spot. Minus 1 star for having to ask for rice multiple times.

Located at the north end of Sawtelle is the newest Korean restaurant. It's Large enough to feed plenty but small enough to get close attention from the staff. The food was authentic Korean and came out very hot! The noodle soup dishes had rich complex flavors and were very satisfying. The prices are very reasonable and we were lucky to find close street parking. We tried it on a hot day so their very powerful HVAC system was greatly appreciated. We can't wait to try more next time.

Sun nong dan is one my favorite places to get authentic Korean food! They open late and have the best service. The sawtelle location really stood out as they remember faces and treat returning customers well! The location was so beautiful inside! I got the tteok Mandu guk which tasted like my mama made me! If you want to try Korean food you will love all they have highly recommend! Found street parking

#8. Plenty of food for 1 person.

Great authentic restaurant. Lots of space, very clean, and fast, helpful staff. It's better with a group because you can rode the larger dishes, but I also came solo for late lunch - perfect for light rainy day. The banchan dishes are spicy radish, fermented squid, cabbage, and green onion. Good way to pickle your stomach for the stew. The broths are tasty with lots of mushrooms and meat. My favorite meats are the short rib and back rib. The smaller pieces of oxtail are a bit chewy, but still good and hearty. The soup is rich and mellow with plenty of meat. The highlight, of course, is the galbi jjim with lots of meat, potatoes, and rice cakes. We skip the cheese so we can make it back to the car.

First time coming with some friends and they were quick to seat us on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered beef soup. It was really tasty. The serving of meat was generous. There were a lot of toppings provided, and I tried them all but they were not needed. The flavor was great.

First time trying Sun Nong Dan and it's definitely my last! My coworker and I came during lunch break and happy to say that we made it back in an hour. Service was great and quick. We came in good timing, we got seated right away. The food was good, it's different from what I am used to for Korean food. My friend who is Korean says this type of dishes are more authentic and something her grandmother would make if you came to visit. I ordered the number 7 which was the short ribs non spicy. My friend ordered the number 9. The server said those were the two recommended items. It came with either red or white rice. We both got red rice and it was so good. Also the banchans were tasty too. I wish they offer other items such as chapchae or kalbi but I guess this place is different from other places and that's what makes them different and I like it. I would like to try their popular item which is the short ribs with cheese and they flame it up when you order to melt the cheese. That dish looks delicious. But it's expensive and definitely big enough for a group to share. They're located on Sawtelle, street parking. And get this, they're open 24 hours!!! They have special offers for early birds.

My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday around 5:30 pm. There was no wait when we came, but they did make us pre-order what we wanted before sitting us down. We got the medium galbijjim with cheese. It took about 30 minutes for us to get our food, which was fine because we weren't too hungry. But the table next to us sat down maybe 15-20 mins after us and they got their galbijjim not too long after, which was odd. Galbijjim was good. It had potatoes and tteokbokki. We've had this dish before at the Rowland heights location without the cheese. The cheese definitely added to the overall dish and made it better. Even though it was still good, I feel like it wasn't as good as when I first had it at the other location. Definitely a lot of food, but it's a bit pricey. It is a still a solid galbijjim place and we are likely to come back.

I LOVE how dog friendly this place is. My boys enjoyed their visit

Ok... this is now my FAVORITE Korean spot! Good quality and generous portions really took center stage here. Plus, it is dog-friendly!! I thought we would be seated on the patio but our server had us sit inside near the entrance and that worked out perfectly for my fur babies. Location: in Sawtelle, plenty of street parking. Quiet and peaceful. Space: restaurant looks bigger inside than how it seems outside. Plenty of tables and very clean. We got the two classics: Koh Galbi Jjim and Mo Deum Soo Yook. The Galbi jjim which was SOOO delicious. It comes with slices of potatoes, carrots, tender meats, as well sliced rice cakes. The textures and thickness were perfect. I'm not sure how they made the sauce because when I tried to make it before, I probably used too much soy sauce. I could not tell if they used any soy sauce in this one but I LOVED this sauce. We opted for mild since our party can't handle spicy too much. We enjoyed the topping of cheese, which they "flambée" with a torch into a gooey yummy cheesiness. Lastly, Mo Deum Soo Yook broth tasted so rich and well balanced. You boil the hotpot first and once it reaches boiling point you turn it off and let the veggies and mushrooms soak into it. This one was not too heavy and a great way to balance out all the other rich flavors of the Galbi Jjim. Thank you Sun Nong Dan for treating me, my fur babies, and family well today! We will be back again soon!!

After circling the block 5 times looking for parking, I was already questioning if this place was worth it... but once we found a metered spot and got inside, everything changed. There was a short wait just to put our name down, but once we were called, they moved FAST. We sat down and they took our order immediately--and within minutes, the food started hitting the table. We ordered a mix of soups and dumplings, and everything came out piping hot and loaded with flavor. The clear broth soup was super clean and comforting, with tender meat and fresh veggies that tasted like it had been simmering for hours. The spicy soup had a deep, rich kick without being overwhelming--perfect balance. The dumplings were juicy and soft with a nice chew on the wrapper--definitely a must-order. And all the banchan (side dishes) added that extra punch of flavor to round everything out. Honestly, this is one of those spots where the hype is real. Pro tip: Parking is the hardest part--plan ahead or be ready to circle like I did. Bonus: They have a morning dine-in special for $11.99 which is a crazy good deal for the quality you're getting. We'll definitely be back!!

I haven't gotten the chance to try their galbi jjim yet, but the soups are sooo so good! We ordered #9 and the beef was really tender and good, and the soup itself, you can really taste the beef bone flavor and had a nice kick to it. Next time, I'm rallying a few friends to come here so I can order galbi jjim and watch the little mini fire show.

I've been here twice now - have tried the individual soups as well as the shareable galbi. The food is decent but pricey. Portions are big, but the flavor is a bit too salty/heavy for my liking. Even the large galbi (#24) was a lot for 4 people - would recommend the medium for 4, if you're all not super hungry. Had pretty good service the first time, but our waitress had an absolutely terrible attitude today, from the moment we got seated to her taking our order. She was extremely impatient, snappy, and frustrated, and did not seem like she wanted to be there. Not sure what her name was but she had blonde dyed hair. Unsure what was upsetting her, but it was a pretty unpleasant experience. My friends were visiting from out of town and were eager to try, so was very disappointed. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be back - have heard great things, but don't think it lives up to the hype, especially considering the service.

    Trinny T.

Fast service and attentive staff. The manager or so told the staff to help my friend put her food away because he's afraid she's gonna spill Food is affordable compared to other ramen places around here. And I like Korean food. Place is large and when I came we were seated immediately.

We came here on a perfect rainy day for soup. Sun Nong Dan comes highly rated and recommended and it is well worth the hype. Everything tasted incredible. The textures, tastes, contrasts, spices, smells. Everything. U wish I would have come here sooner, as spring/summer is just around the corner. I will certainly be back. It gets packed in here, so the service can be slow and seem a bit inattentive at times, but don't let that deter you. Busy restaurants are busy for a reason.

The portion sizes are generous so definitely come hungry or you can share as well. I've tried their bossam and jowl combo as well and both are definitely great in their own way, but I absolutely love the minced garlic sauce that comes with the jowl. They have a valet parking system of sorts but we didn't pay, we self parked. The attendant told us we were fine. It was approx 9pm when we arrived and also a week night. I have no idea how much valet parking is here. We were a small party of two. Upon arrival, we were notified they were out of RICE. Um..what?? That's a good problem (for them to have) but not for consumers. I feel this really limited our options to just soup. I honestly didn't want soup but there wasn't much else we could order. The bowls were large and came out piping hot. It was a satisfying meal and not too heavy. The price point was on the pricey side. Our waiter told us business has not been the same post covid. Some dishes are between $40-$60. I asked for a soup and they were able to make it less spicy. My friend got a soup with dumplings in it. He put a good amount of soy sauce to give the broth some life. Also, the banchan is on point. We asked for a refill and devoured the second portions. If you wanna impress friends with Korean food, bring them here! Its a casual place.

From the moment the Korean-style spare ribs arrived at the table, it was clear this was a dish worth savoring. Each rib bore a beautifully charred exterior--deeply caramelized without a hint of bitterness--offering that irresistible smoky aroma the moment it was placed before us. The glaze was nothing short of spectacular. A perfect balance of sweet and spicy, it clung to the meat with a glossy sheen that promised flavor in every bite. There was just enough heat to make your taste buds sit up and pay attention, but it never overwhelmed the deeper, richer notes of the sweet components. But what truly set these ribs apart was the texture. Beneath the charred surface lay meat so tender it practically fell off the bone with the gentlest tug of a fork. Each bite was juicy and succulent, the result of careful cooking and a respect for quality ingredients. Ham Ji Park, you will be missed. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the food.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.
