I found this restaurant because of its great reviews and decided to give it a try. The restaurant was fairly empty, the woman who initially served us was incredibly kind, and the food was good. It wasn't the best Korean BBQ I've had, but it was good enough that I fully intended to come back. Unfortunately, the last five minutes of our visit changed that. When I asked for two takeout containers for our leftovers, the second server told me I could only take the leftover meat--not the banchan (side dishes)--because "the owner doesn't allow it." This wasn't an all-you-can-eat restaurant. Everything had already been paid for. I honestly thought he was joking, so I asked, "So you'd rather throw the food away than let me take it home?" His response was, "Yep. It might seem like a waste of food to you, but it's also a waste of a container." I asked if he was serious. He looked at me with a smug expression, said, "Nope," and walked away. Whether that's truly the owner's policy or not, the way it was handled was incredibly rude and unprofessional. One courteous conversation could have left me with a positive impression. Instead, I left feeling disrespected. Aside from the chained KBBQ big boys around LA and OC Counties, Yangmani is another OG KBBQ place that's superb. The waiting time can be quite awhile, up to a hour plus, especially during the weekends. So personally, I rather come during the week. Service is great, and the meat is good. The offer small combos for two people, and large combos for more of us. The meat quality is leaner compared to other places. My favorite is the beef galbi, and the brisket. Easy to cook, at medium-rare, and enjoy. The bon chons are bottomless. Rice paper may be limited though, but the salad and kimchi is unlimited. Personally, I rather save my stomach for the meat. Remember, these are combos and not all you can eat (ayce). The service is awesome. They'll cook for you! The servers are very attentive as they keep moving checking on their tables. This location is better than the Rowland Heights one for sure! I heard this is the OG spot anyways. We came in at 9:55pm, an hour before closing and were told that we don't have long to eat. We were seated anyways and were asked to pay up front. Totally fine by us, and got the beef intestine set where we were able to try all 4. The bon chon was really good, personal favorites were the rice and fish cake and salad. The beef large and small intestines were really good, other two not so much. Was really grateful for the waiter to cook our intestines for us though, was nice. Around 10:30pm though, things started to get awry, the waiter started to close up shop and asked us if we wanted a box even though we weren't done eating. We got one box and wanted to pack the bon chon to go as well to not waste it, however the waiter asked us what it was for and he didn't allow us to pack it to go. I have been interested in trying their new location since they moved deeper into ktown. Street parking seems impossible, but thankfully this plaza has valet for $5. Yukhoe - 4.5/5, excellent portion for the price. The pine nuts add an excellent nutty flavor to the sweet marinade, the raw beef is frozen and is super refreshing with the Korean pear. The flavor is more sweet than savory which I don't prefer, but overall this was a really good entree. Gopchang - 5/5, prepared much better than other kbbq restaurants. They were able to get the gamey taste out of the intestine, and it was cooked well with crispy sides. Beef tongue - 3.5/5, usually my favorite cut but maybe little too thin? This combo came with boneless short rib, ribeye rusu gui, thinly sliced brisket, pork belly, one slice of king oyster mushroom, lots of onion rings and bean sprouts for the grill. The short rib and ribeye were the best. We also got a bowl of steamed egg to share. I liked that the steamed egg came with fish roe on top. The combo came with a salad and many delicious side dishes. The side dishes that we asked for seconds were the pickled cucumbers and purple onion, marinated perilla leafs, pickled sliced radishes, and marinated quail eggs. I like that the staff cooked for us. It took me five years of living in Koreatown but I finally have dined at Yangmani! I loved it so much and I am wondering why I didn't go sooner. Open since 2007, but in this new location just since December, the staff at Yangmani are all fantastic! Everyone is so sweet and so old school cooking with arms behind backs. One server in particular was extra kind & gave tons of compliments to the toddler with us - so bonus points for that! Now the food at Yangmani is so money. I wasn't going expecting much for an old school style intestine specializing kbbq because of my childhood biases. However the meat here is just so stellar, the service is so great and the banchans are tasty, too. Plus, you have fun dessert drinks as you leave - I prefer the green apple-~so yum~! Walked into Yangmani on a Thursday night with no reservation and got seated instantly. By around 8pm though, the place was packed and there was definitely a wait. One thing to note -- you have to order at least two meat options, which can be a lot if it's just two people and you're not super hungry. Still, we went for it. The mega galbi (their most popular) was easily one of the best I've had in LA. Super tender, almost felt pre-marinated and prepped perfectly -- all you really do is finish it on the grill and dip. Every bite was solid. The bulgogi was also different in a good way -- not your typical thin, overly sweet version. This was ribeye cuts with onions and mushrooms, much more premium feel. Fried rice was a hit -- strong kimchi flavor, nice crunch from celery, plus bits of pork belly throughout. Really well done. Banchan (starters) were actually unique -- I've been to a lot of KBBQ spots and this one stood out. You can tell there's more thought put into it. Service was top tier. Staff basically handles everything -- you don't cook, they do it all, and they do it well. Easy 5 stars. Yangmani has been my top KBBQ spot for years-and it's the one I always recommend to friends and colleagues. But to be honest, I come more for the banchan (side dishes) than the meat. They serve complimentary side dishes you won't find at most Korean restaurants. My favorite is the Gang-doenjang-a thick, savory soybean paste stew that's really good with any of their meats. It comes out on the grill, so make sure to wait until it's bubbling hot before digging in. Another standout is the Kimchi biji Jjigae (ground soybean stew with kimchi). I'm usually not a fan of biji jjigae, but Yangmani's version is the exception- I could probably eat it with a bowl of rice and skip the meat entirely. My favorite meat cuts here are the ribeye cap and boneless short rib. Friends have told me that the intestines are really good too. The staff is great at grilling all the meat perfectly. They don't take reservations at 4pm so keep in mind that you will be waiting a minimum of 30 minutes during dinner rush. My group of 7 waited about 45 min to an hour for a table during peak dinner time on a Friday night. Once seated, we ordered a wide variety of meats - a large variety combo, a small chang combo with no mountain tripe, soy bean paste soup, and extra myung-i namul. The servers came around to grill the meats for us and made sure we had everything we needed. We asked the server to cut our large intestine both flat and round, which is the way I had it in Korea. The flat way of cutting does cook off more of the fatty layer, but it makes the texture chewier, and it's really delicious. We also ordered a mul naengmyun and bibim naengmyun near the end to help wash down the grease. I'm usually a mul naengmyun girl, but I enjoyed their bibim naengmyun a little bit more.
