Sun Nong Dan is iconic and amazing! They are known for their galbi-jjim which is well worth the price! We got the large deluxe version or Koh version that comes with the oxtail + the cheese add on. Next time, I would order just the regular version because the galbi meat is my favorite but it was fun to have the variety of meats in the dish! The best part are the potatoes soaking up the sauce! The service was great and everyone was very kind! They did the cheese melting show for us, but overall they were very attentive and communicative throughout the meal! When we went, it wasn't too busy so we were seated immediately on a Sunday night! The inside is huge as well and the vibes are lively! There is plenty of parking spots too as it's situated in a large plaza! Definitely recommend having Sun Nong Dan once in your life!! read more

No wait on a saturday for lunch. service was prompt! We ordered #10 Won Gi Tang short rib/ox tail soup and Yuk Gae Jang spicy beef and leek soup- both came out shortly after the ban chan. The soups are good but nothing special outside of all the other korean soup spots. would skip entirely next time! The star of the show however, was amazing. We were stuffed but couldnt stop eating the galbi jjim, and the flaming torch was a fun presentation! The large was for 4-5 people but we couldn't finish, so the 115$ + cheese and tteokbokki (added another 15$) was well worth the price. The meat was good quality, all tender, and so juicy. Potatoes melt into the sauce and were so addictive- tteokbokki had a nice al dente chew. Overall under 200$ for 5 people and its an LA staple spot- come for the galbi, skip the soups read more

We came late around 11pm on a Saturday night, but it was still very busy. Love that it's 24/7. Mul mandu (water aka steamed dumplings - think Xiao long bao without the soup because they were all busted) were tasty. Just wanted something to snack on and this hit the spot to start our meal. The banchan was decent, a handful of items - cabbage kimchi, radish, chives, and squid (?) We had to order the galbijjim which there's not much more to say that all other reviews haven't already. Tender pieces of beef short rib meat (and bones) with rice cakes, potatoes, carrots, in a delicious stew. Amazing over rice. I docked a star since I've had other galbijjim that was way more fall off the bone - these ones required hands and gnawing to get every bit of meat. Iykyk. Still great flavor, perfect spice. Had it with the purple rice (they referred to it as brown). They also serve it with dipping sauce for the meat (onion with jalapeno) that's usually found at kbbq places - great sauce. Floors were a bit sticky. No issues with parking since there's a huge lot. read more

Stopped by Sun Nong Dan for dinner for the first time and had a great meal. Everything came out pretty quickly, and the food was exactly what we were hoping for. I finally got to try the infamous galbijim with the cheese on top. Definitely exceeded my expectations. Samson took care of our table and checked in on us a few times, kept our drinks filled, and made sure we had everything we needed without hovering. Will definitely come back! read more

I'm a sucker for soup and for spots open 24/7, so Sun Nong Dan is my go-to spot for Korean soup when it's early in the morning and no other restaurants are really open. If you go around 8-9 am as I usually do, you shouldn't have to wait too long for a table. It definitely gets busy in the evening for dinner time, so that's something to consider. The staff is very nice, the restaurant itself is clean, and there is plenty of seating. Every time I'm here I order the #1 yang ji sulung tang. Such a comforting, clean broth. I don't add too much of the salt/pepper seasoning, but I usually pile on the green onion. The meat they use is nice and tender. And I also really enjoy the refreshing banchan they offer, especially the kimchi and the scallions. Side note: you know the soup is made well and is collagen-rich when your refrigerated leftovers are nice and solid. Sun Nong Dan is my ol' reliable when wanting a warm, quick, conforting meal that I can still enjoy later cos I always end up with leftovers! read more

They ended up giving me a credit for the next time I come for the bad portion size. I do think takeout is still worse since it usually comes with two small bone in short ribs. Whereas, every time I go in person there's at least 2 big ones or 3 smaller ones in the soup. read more

My friend and I came here on New Year's Eve around 11:30 AM - because this restaurant is open 24/7, and they're open on the holidays we were expecting to wait a long time before being seated. However, this restaurant and their servers are very efficient and were seated within 10 minutes. The soup at the restaurant is definitely the highlight of the menu. I got the number 12 (Tta Roh Guk Bao - brisket and cabbage soup) & my friend ordered the number 13 (yuk gae jang - spicy beef and leek). Both were amazing and come with their delicious banchans. These piping hot soup orders really hit the spot on a raining day! Lastly, I MUST mention our fantastic server Alvin. Even though the restaurant was packed and busy on a holiday, he still went above and beyond to ensure that we were tended to. I really appreciate servers like him! read more

I've been to Sun Ning Dan in LA and this was my first time in Rowland Heights. Same great flavor for the galbijjim. The staff was really nice and gave us some cokes on the house bc it was my friend's birthday! It was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon but didn't feel too crowded even though all the tables were full. It felt like everyone had a nice time connecting in the space. read more

Couple of us decided to stop by for Sun Nong Dan's breakfast! Sun Nong Dan opens for 24 hours and it's rather large and traditional Korean restaurant. Service is good, they respond and smiles even though only a couple people running the front. We ordered #12 beef stew soup with white rice and #13 beef soup with purple rice. Both are spicy and tastes great! The ingredients the green onions, vegetables are plentiful. Soup is super flavorful, meat is given just enough for breakfast portion. It's still a lot, we can't finish the soups. Rice and small dishes are well made. Overall if you feel like eating something warm in winter - for us it's the spicy Korean beef soups, then this is your number one choice! With breakfast options in the morning this is no brainer! read more

Trust the waiter when he says that level 4 spicy is extremely spicy because my friends and I were suffering, but in the best way possible haha. I love Sun Nong Dan; I've been to their Ktown location and this spot is slightly closer to me and the food is just as good. Their galbi jjim with cheese is top tier and I really wish that Sun Nong Dan opened a location in OC because I'd stop by way more often. Their level 4 spiciness is killer but there's still great flavor and I would go for their level 3 spiciness next time. I'm a huge fan of rice cakes in general and their rice cakes are amazingly chewy. I regret not getting extra rice cakes in my galbijjim. Their banchan is also solid, I like their squid and radish banchan the most. The radish and kimchi was a good side dish for the galbijjim while we waited for our dish to arrive. read more

I'm a regular here and love coming over after a night of drinking. They're open 24/7 and usually not super busy if you don't go during peak hours. I always get the beef cheek soup with purple rice, and they have unlimited banchan. If you have a group, get the melted cheese plate... omg to die for! The soup is the best for a hangover cure or to sober up after drinking. read more

I wasn't planning on leaving a review for this place but the food was truly superb and customer service was great. I've never been to Sun Nong Dan before mainly because of the prices. So when my friend wanted to come here for her belated birthday, who am I to say no? We stopped by on a weekday night and it wasn't busy at all. I had the tta roh guk bap and it was so flavorful. They were super generous with the beef brisket; by the time I was finishing, I still had more meat left in my bowl than my actual soup. Totally worth the price! If you're a fan of Korean food and in the Rowland Heights area (and don't want to trek all the way to LA K-Town), Sun Nong Dan is a must-visit spot. The fact that it's open 24 hours is a big plus, making it a perfect choice for late-night cravings, early morning meals (and anywhere in between). My absolute favorite dish here is the GALBI JJIM. For those unfamiliar, Galbi Jjim is a delicious Korean braised short rib dish, slow-cooked to perfection with a savory and slightly sweet soy-based sauce. It's not cheap, at around $85 for the smallest size, but trust me, it's worth every penny. The portion is quite generous, and if you're just two people, it can easily feed you for a few additional days. There are five or six spice levels to choose from. I usually go for level 4 (spicy), which packs quite a punch! If you're into cheese, you have the option to order it with cheese, but I personally prefer it without it. A little insider tip: if you do a Yelp check-in via the app, you can usually score a free drink or soda, which is a nice perk. If you're in the mood for something a bit less heavy, their menu also offers a variety of soups. I highly recommend the ox bone soup with beef brisket (Chadol Sulung Tang). I'm delighted that I finally got the chance to try this place and order the galbijjjim! We visited on a weekday for lunch, and there was plenty of seating available, with parking being hassle-free as well. The restaurant had a bright atmosphere, and it was evident that everyone was thoroughly enjoying their food. The service was mediocre and they had an attitude when they messed up our orders. The food was great though! Opting for the medium size for our group of 3, we were pleasantly surprised to find that we had plenty of leftovers to take home. We decided to splurge on adding cheese (very overpriced at $8) on top, as it pairs exceptionally well with the dish. It's always fun to watch them torch the cheese on top when they bring the food out. I appreciated that they provided a bowl of rice for each diner and offered the choice between white or purple rice. The food here is great, but I want to give 0 stars if I can because of their horrible service. I called in to order a takeout, but I asked them to change one of the side dish (napa/baechu kimchi to chives/buchu kimchi). And let me remind you that they do serve both kimchi in the restaurant, but I was told that they can not change the side dish for me because they don't serve it in a "takeout" meal. My request was so simple but they refused to serve me a side dish that I asked for. If I pay for the same amount of money as those who eat in the restaurant, why can't I ask for ONE side dish that I wanted? I wonder if that was a difficult request. This experience was so ridiculous, and what more surprising was that the waitress who answered my phone call, today around 2:30PM to 3PM, told me to just cancel my order if I didn't like it. It was on the advise of a few of our friends that we went to this particular restaurant. In spite of the fact that there was a lot of activity, the service was kind and efficient. The amount of food that was provided was not only extremely abundant but also more than sufficient for our group of six people. In spite of the fact that we ordered one part from the normal menu and one portion from the grill menu, we still had a lot of food left over for our family to enjoy. It appeared like the type of cuisine that would be really good for those who stay out late and may be feeling a hangover.
