Everything about this place is a scam. From the "30 Minute" invite only sales pitch buy a $400,000 "membership" for which you get "discounted" nights at the resort to their restaurants at which it is almost impossible to get t reservation before 9pm. I really wanted to enjoy the stay here but waiting for 15 minutes in the sun for a "shuttle" golf cart when there 100 of them and twenty drivers standing there waiting on "premium clients" with different colored wrist bands is not a good experience. read more

We haven't even gone yet and have had nothing but a terrible experience with their customer service and bait and switch tactics. My friend is a residence member, and in October asked her concierge to price out rates for my husband and I and 4 other couples. We will be there to celebrate his birthday. My friend had told me all about her amazing perks that she got and that we'd get by booking through her. So we booked through her concierge Arianna Paz. When I spoke with her she told me that only a certain percentage of the 3K resort credits could be used at the spa. I had my friend confirm that information because she is able to use 100% of the 3K at the spa when she goes. Arianna responded via email, which I have a copy of, "they will receive full benefits 3K resort credits, 25 min massages, mania/pedis." I then emailed the concierge with a few questions....no response after 6 weeks of resending the email 4 times. I finally asked my friend if she could get in touch with her. I then found out that Arianna got the emails but ignored them because she's only supposed to interact with the member. She never told me that, she could have politely sent an email stating that, or she could have told my friend that...instead...she just ignored it. What ridiculous customer service and how extremely rude to entirely ignore 4 polite emails. Then, when she finally answered my questions through my friend, I found out that I wouldn't be able to have reserved chairs by the pool/beach or pre reserve one night for our entire party of 10 people at a restaurant. I was hoping to have at least one night to celebrate my husband's birthday together and now won't be assured to have seats together at the pool/beach. This is a primary reason I'd decided to book at this resort through my friend. Fast forward to December when someone contacts me to ask if I want to prebook any excursions or spa treatments with my $1500. Resort credits ($300.) which can be used at the spa. I told her that the credit amount was a mistake but she reconfirmed it wasn't. I then asked my friend to ask Arianna...and days later received a curt reply that that was accurate (even though I have an email proving...prior to booking...that she assured my friend that we'd all receive "full benefits including 3K resort credits". So, now I get to share with my friends that all of the perks they were looking forward to were a scam and lies. It's unfortunate for them that we've all had this terrible bait and switch experience before even arriving since all of us are physicians with expendable income and most of us were interested in buying a membership like my friend has, but now there's no way any of us would even vaguely consider it. They've showed me how awful their customer services is, how they lie about perks to get your money, and then tell you that's all not true and you basically get nothing. What a joke. I'd cancel entirely but can't due to all of my friends being involved as well. We all were so excited to experience the luxury and vip perks the resort had to offer and now just have a bad taste in our mouths. What a joke. Very disappointing. read more

Five out of five stars. We had an amazing stay at the Sun Palace. The rooms were very clean and the food to die for as far as all-inclusive resorts go. Lots of sun chairs and never trouble with bookings at the resort. Our favorite stop was Sweet and Coffee though as love the staff there. We adored Gabriel, Eliseo, Eric, Yzui, and Valeria as they each made the stay enjoyable and fun! We will definitely be coming back for our next vacation soon!! read more

My wife and I had an incredible time here. The rooms are beautiful and offer gorgeous ocean views. I understand that the resort was recently renovated, and you can tell. Everything feels well maintained and clean. The pools are great, and the beach is lovely. The food ranges from good to excellent. There's some variability in food quality, but nothing is bad, and some items are excellent. I'm burying the lede though. The resort staff is the crown jewel of this experience. They make the experience unbelievably pleasant, from the front desk staff, to the entertainment and dining staff, to housekeeping and maintenance. Great experience. Pros: Short ride from /to airport. About 15 min. If you've been to nicer faraway resorts, you know about the hassle and long journey to get there. I'm not all for that the second time around in Cancun. Clean resort. No carpet and Big huge room with Ocean view. Overall Food is quite good. Fuego (steak) restaurant was great. Fast service. Good food. Open eating space. We ate here the most. Aurora restaurant is nice but service was sooo soo slow. Pros: can visit isla mujeres palace for free. It's the only one worth going to within their multiple included resorts without wasting your time listening to timeshare. BIGG plus. Although rumors have it they're selling off this Mujeres resort in a couple months to a health spa. Cons: THIN THIN walls and ceilings. Holy crap I can hear people walking around all night and their early morning toilet flush. If you love to party late and sleeping in. This is NOT the place for you. I'm a sleeping in type of girl on vacation so minus a big star here. Literally you're up when your neighboring guests decided to get up ... Cons: too much timeshare sales pitch. Tips: decline everything at check in and ask them not to call you at 8am to sell "experience" or pretty much timeshare Atmosphere: generally older white folks love it here. That's 80% of the type of guests. If you're a young party grasshopper, not a place for you. Service: top notch. Staffs are super nice in general. Tip money goes a long way here. This is an amazing resort to stay in. They cater to every need, whim and desire. They are so attentive, but never over bearing. The entire staff is incredibly friendly. The food is so fresh and delicious. There are no lines at the buffet or to eat in the restaurants. We were here for New Year's Eve which they made so fun, energetic and festive. Tl;DR, absolutely stellar resort for you and your better half. If you're looking for a respite from the world and don't want to hear screaming kids in a pool, Sun Palace is for you. The most important thing you need to know about Sun Palace is how incredible the staff are. I mean they are truly professional and will do anything they can to make your time here as enjoyable as possible. It doesn't matter what status you have*, all you need to do is ask for something and it is as good as done (I go out of my way to tip and be kind back, people who don't do this are gross to me). From day passes to diamond elites, everyone is treated essentially the same (there are a few select seating areas reserved for the highest level - diamond, and a lounge for VIP and up that we never use, but besides that its all the same). The resort itself is very well laid out and not overly large. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the huge ones as well, looking at you Paradisus, but the intimate nature of Sun Palace makes it ideal for couples which is the whole point. Everything is set up nicely for you and your +1, from beach/pool lounges to the two-person hot tub in your room. It's a truly nice place to hide away from the world if you're so inclined. That said, its also a fun place to hang with new friends you'll inevitably meet at the swim up bar, and its not hard to have a good time here. The food and drink flow as you'd expect from an all-inclusive, and I never want for anything when I'm there. Sticking with the food for a moment, for me, breakfast is the best meal of the day here (buffet is pretty on point), lunch by the pool is OK, and dinner can be hit or miss. I like the Italian and the grill, but the rest of the options (Mexican and Thai) can be spotty. I've done well at both but have also been a bit disappointed (nothing room service at 2 am couldn't fix). The drinks are spot on, and you can get literally anything your heart desires**. Again, I always have a good time at Sun Palace, but it's kind of hard not to really. The service is the key to sun palace.  Out of any hotel, restaurant, bar etc I've EVER been to nothing beats the service at sun palace.  The waiters, waitresses, staff etc are all incredible.  Everyone is so kind, accommodating and honestly I sometimes feel bad for folks in the service industry because I was a waiter for years so I know it's stressful, but they are a different breed at Sun palace.  Truly, it feels like it's their pleasure to go above and beyond and that's their catch phrase after all.  "It's a pleasure." In particular, a few people really made our trip with their great service: Enendino or Dino was our main waiter throughout the trip by the pool.  He was a stand up guy and really took care of us.  I couldn't have hoped for better service/poolside luxury. At the coffee bar, cristobal (this is the way my friend), brenda, angelo and riccardo were all wonderful - absolutely wonderful. At the steakhouse, Felipe was a truly outstanding waiter.  Some of the kindest, most accommodating energy I've ever had the honor of receiving at a restaurant. At the spa, Francisco was so wonderful.  He toured me around the place and took care of my every need, it truly helped me relax coming from the mayhem of NYC. Lastly, Erik at the check-in desk was awesome and really helped us out.  Same with Monica of guest services. As for the resort, it's quite small, but I like that it's adults only and 18+.  I also like that there's a quiet pool (more my vibe), but they have an upbeat pool if you prefer. Every room has a balcony and a hot tub.  Our room was quite large, but on the last night we switched to a different room and it was much smaller - still great though.  The room minibar is stocked with drinks and even 4 bottles of liquor and it's always restocked to your needs. The beach and pool were great.  Sometimes the sun wouldn't cooperate, but that's to be expected in December. As for the food, the breakfast is solid.  Delicious pastries and good omelettes with fresh food.  I have a very, very spoiled, high bar for food being a native of NYC.  I live down the block from michelin star restaurants so, it's really not fair.  I'd say the food overall is good/OK, but nothing to write him about.  The drinks, however, I loved. It was smaller than some of the others but great for couples that want an experience where the people that work there are friendly and know your names as well as what you like to eat and drink. They go out of their way to serve you and get it right. There are so many wonderful people that work there from the gentleman who played the guitar in the bar to all the people at concierge. I can tell you that some of our favorites were Jessica, Dulce, Angela, Cristobal, Brandan, Riccardo, and Brad The infinity pools are super relaxing and the rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. read more

Sun palace has one of the best beaches of all the palace resorts. The food is usually amazing but the Italian restaurant needs to change its recipes. Most of our food was "pretty" but it tasted terrible. The hospitality of the staff is amazing and our room was cleaned daily. The beach was kept seaweed clean and we had a great time. read more

Sun Palace Management Dropped the Ball My wife and I have been frequent guests of Sun Palace Resort for almost 30 years, Palace Resort members for over 20 years, and have stayed at the Hotel almost 20 times, including when it was called Puerta del Sol in 1994. During our last visit, though, the Sun Palace was almost unrecognizable. The quality of food was not to the same standard, and the included wines were of limited selection and poor quality. Our last visit was in December 2022, and we planned to watch the Qatar 2022 World Cup quarterfinal and semifinal matches as we have during previous World Cups. We noted that the front lobby was adorned with Qatar 2022 World Cup banners and the lobby bar had a replica of the World Cup trophy with World Cup advertisements almost everywhere you looked. The day following our arrival we got up early in order to get good seats in the lobby bar to watch the first quarterfinal match. We enjoyed watching the game with our morning mimosas. Later in the afternoon we returned to watch the second quarterfinal game but found out that the Sun Palace was not broadcasting the second game. There were approximately 20 other guests in the bar who were expecting to watch the game. We talked to the bar staff, and they scrambled to try to find the game on the television. More hotel staff joined the conversation and we found out that the second game was pay-per-view, and the hotel had not opted to pay for the game. We tried to find a supervisor or someone in a position of authority but were unsuccessful. Several guests requested to speak with the hotel manager and were told that she was unavailable. Apparently, there was no manager on duty at that time. Fair warning, if you plan to watch a major sports game at the hotel, make sure the game will actually be available before you travel. My wife and I ended up taking a taxi to watch the game at Señor Frogs. They were broadcasting all of the Qatar 2022 World Cup matches on multiple extra-large TV sets in the bar. We did not expect to have to go to Señor Frogs that afternoon to watch the game and ended up missing the first half. With all of the World Cup advertising at the Sun Palace, we expected they would have ensured that all of the matches would be available. We were extremely unhappy with Sun Palace for not providing all of the Word Cup matches and we were very disappointed with the Sun Palace management's refusal to handle the situation and talk to the guests. There was no follow up or apology from the Sun Palace management. As I previously mentioned, not only the hotel service, but also the quality of the food has plummeted. There were six people in our group and the first night we had dinner at the Aurora restaurant which was serving "Mexican street food". We have eaten at numerous authentic Mexican restaurants in the past (including in Mexico City) and this was probably the worst food we have had. The "tacos" were almost inedible with no flavor and basically just some unseasoned meat on masa-based thick tortillas with nothing else. No one in the group enjoyed the meal, and it was almost indigestible. Stay away. We also found that the Sun Palace had a very limited list of wines that were included, and they were out of almost every other wine that we requested. There was a short supply of the included wines, but they were more than happy to sell us a bottle of another wine at an extravagant price. When we visited the Sun Palace in 2021, in the middle of the pandemic, they did not have the same shortage of wines. Our rooms were on the 6th floor, the "concierge" level. On the day of our arrival, we noticed that the carpet was dirty and there was litter by the door of our rooms. A week later when we checked out of the rooms, the trash was still there. The hotel is not as clean as it once was, and no one seems to be making sure that things are done right. Several times during our stay they didn't clean our room during the day, and we had to call room service in the evening to have someone take care of the room. When they did clean our rooms, they neglected to replace items that we ran out of during our stay such as tissues, soap, and shampoo and we had to order those separately from room service. In the past we have noticed employees constantly cleaning and taking care of the hotel, but this time there was no such attention to detail. We do not want to say that the Sun Palace is in complete disarray. It is currently a mixed bag, and there are still some outstanding employees who go above and beyond and take pride in their job. For example, Mariana (the restaurant manager at Fuego) is super pleasant, and the service at the restaurant was excellent. You can tell that she works hard and runs a tight ship, but she also makes time to talk to the customers and ensures that we are well taken care of and enjoying ourselves. My wife and I stayed here for 6 nights in early May 2014 for our honeymoon. Overall, it was a good experience but far from perfect. Here's what you need to know about Sun Palace. Getting There: Make sure you book shuttle service from the airport for the best deal. We used Best Day, and it was great. Room and Atmosphere: Easily the best thing about Sun Palace. The rooms and interior of the building are modern, balanced by natural materials like wood and stone. The effect is light and extremely pleasant, and the "couples only" aspect of the resort made it peaceful and romantic. Our room was always clean and in good condition. We LOVED the in-room jacuzzi, and used it twice daily, and the bed was really really great too. All outlets were identical to those in the United States, so no worries there. Wi-fi is AWESOME at Sun Palace. It's fast, with great connectivity even on the beach. Service: Lacking. The attitude to serve you is excellent, but the ability to execute that is limited and falls flat. One of the major causes are the poor English language skills of most employees which resulted in many mixups and dissatisfaction, but it wasn't for lack of trying. Our food orders were consistently wrong, staff generally cannot answer questions about food and events, my boxed lunch vegetarian sandwich contained only raw vegetables, etc. Different parties in the hotel do not coordinate well with each other. You should snag their free honeymoon package if you can prove you were recently married. Food: Hit or miss. Some food items were delicious, such as room service breakfast, meats cooked while you watch, and most room service items. Others were completely inedible, like the lasagna and WAY oversalted dishes at El Alamo. Desserts usually look better than they taste, but I recommend the ice cream at El Alamo buffet lunch. It's easy to get tired of the food options when you stay longer than 4-5 days. Drinks: Alcoholic: You MUST ask that drinks are made with top shelf alcohol: "Screwdriver with SKYY, please". Otherwise, it will be total crap because of cheap liquor. Ask for the cocktail menu and pick simple drinks. When ordering soda, ask for "a can of ...". Soda that is not canned is crap. Even with these tricks, many drinks are weak and pretty bad. Non alcoholic drinks are good like fresh squeezed juice or coffee (frappucino is great). Beach/ Pools: Pristine, amazing beach. Beautiful and quiet, with comfy chairs and umbrellas. The "couples only" aspect of the resort really shines here. Pools are clean and well-kept. Resort Credits: More a scam than anything else. You'll arrive with several hundred dollars of 'resort credit' at least. The vacation planners try to pressure you into spending your credit and buying additional services that are not covered with resort credit. However, the credit is useful in some cases. Remember, on a $300 resort credit purchase, you pay still $50 out of pocket in taxes and fees. Highly Recommended: Sea Paradise tour- snorkeling trip and glass bottom boat. Couple's citrus massage Not recommended: Romantic dinner Photoshoot Isla Mujeres tour Visiting other Palace hotels Any credit toward store purchases I recommend Sun Palace with reservations. I just recently came back from Sun Palace for a 6 night honeymoon. I would give it a 4 and my husband would give it a 2 (he didn't like the food at all and thought 4 nights would have been ideal). That's why I'm giving it a 3. Service was incredible and the best thing about this resort. The employees there do anything and everything to make sure you have the best vacation. Food: The seafood I got was so fresh and delicious. (Make sure to try the mixed ceviche from the pool bar and ask for guacamole on the side!) Our least favorite restaurant was the Chinese :( The quality of food there was about the same as panda express. Also the honeymoon dinner served at the Italian restaurant was very odd food pairings. I wish we had skipped it and just eaten at either the steak or italian restaurants Room service was hit and miss, sometimes it was really slow (weekend morning) and the food wasnt as hot as it should have been but overall it was good. Activities: The fire show and dance were the only two scheduled things we went to. We spent resort credits on massages and the chef's dinner. I would recommend both and the chef's dinner was my husband's favorite meal. Most of my enjoyment came from waking up in the morning, putting on my bathing suit and coverup and going down to the beach or pool and relaxing. I came here with my wife on July 24, 2022. We booked a couple's massage which was anything but relaxing. When we arrived, we changed, dressed in robes, and met inside the coed area. We decided to sit down on the spa bed where others were laying on as well, waiting for our room to be prepared. For some reason, there were about 6-7 masseuses gathered around right behind us whispering to each other and watching us, even pointing towards us. We thought it was supposed to be private and intimate, but it felt like we were zoo animals being watched and talked about. A spa is somewhere you go to for relaxation and privacy, not a social club. We thought these were professional massage therapists, not a group of gossips gathered around to talk about their clients in Spanish. By the way, we can understand the language too. When the massage began, the masseuse that was assigned to me started doing a lot of heavy breathing, grunting, and inappropriate moaning as she rubbed oil all over my body. Even with the ambient nature sounds in the background, her noises were very clearly heard by all four of us - my wife included. You can imagine how traumatizing this was for both of us. Regardless of whether this was supposed to be a compliment, or even if you might say it's hilarious in some other context, I personally think paying for a $400+ massage just to listen to a random person make sexual noises in a dark room was not something either of us signed up for. The masseuse assigned to my wife was extremely quiet and much more professional, just to note that. Anyways, this lasted throughout the 50 minutes we laid there bare naked and it was very uncomfortable to say the least. When the massage was done, I felt violated and helpless, like my body was groped by a stranger in a sexually implicit manner. It felt like I wasn't supposed to be upset even though it made me angry. I talked to my wife about how I felt throughout the whole time. When we left, we were visibly upset. There was even MORE whispering in Spanish by 3 male employees at the front, joined by another female employee, more pointing, and looking at us as we walked out the lobby with some dignity left intact. Also, a female employee kept asking my wife if she was okay - like word got around and this is a common incident that happens in this particular spa. Again, a massage isn't supposed to feel like rape. But here at Awe Spa in Sun Palace, they should really reevaluate how the spa employees treat their guests. read more

Consuelo and Janeth in Public relations tried to deflect blame for the food poisoning on us and question our hand washing! What a joke! These people clearly are the ones with less than stellar sanitary practices. Other guests told us they saw cooks grabbing raw meat with no gloves and then touching cooked food with the same hand repeatedly!! Minimal effort was made to accommodate us. This was our first trip to cancun and we were recommended to go to the palace resorts and the sun palace happen to be the adult only resort so we chose this place. It's very close to the airport maybe a 10 minute shuttle trip one way. If you do the transportation through the hotel by trafictour then it is 26$ round trip and honestly this is just comfortable and it may be like 4$ more expensive but it's air conditioned and no wait. Once we arrived we got a cool cloth to wash our hand and a cool drink while we checked in. Check in is at 3 (no exception) but we got wrist bands to use the facility. Pack you swim shit in your carry on so you can chill out in the pool until the room is ready. The jacuzzi in each room has a hot temperature so be careful and add the bubble bath!! Food was alright but the sushi wasn't all that great In our opinion. The best was the bbq pork rib at The Steak and the lobster dinner at the Alamo ( use the resort credit and it ends up being like 12$ per person!) Spa has a limited amount on the resort credit you can use and make sure you make reservations before hand. We used our credits and bought some tequila and did couple pedicures! This resort is 5 stars all the way. My friend and I went here for New Years during Covid19. Still had a blast while being safe. The service was to die for. The room was so beautiful made you not want to leave because of the view. I have been to many all exclusive resorts but this one by far had the best food I had ever tasted (Surprising because it was all exclusive). The upkeep on this place was amazing with twice a day cleaning. The staff was so friendly. We live in a world where nothing is perfect so, if I had one improvement I would say better music selection because the music was very 80s. They should modernise and diversify to reach all audiences. One of the best weeks of my life. Went here for my honeymoon in March and I was half expecting rowdy crowds because it was cancun. But I guess since this was an adults only, lots of honeymooners and older couples were here instead, so it was actually really quite relaxing! Our room was at the very corner on the 2nd floor by the ocean, get that one if you can because the balcony pretty much is on its own - barely sharing walls with other neighbors so it felt like a private getaway. 2nd floor is actually high enough, barely heard noises from the outside because your bed is pretty far in. Inside of the room, we have the bed, showers, and a jacuzzi. The jacuzzi is right by the window so you can enjoy it while looking at the view. The restaurants, oh man oh man, they were so darn excellent! Basically we ate about 5-6 times a day just because we can, including room service (oh yes, they were included too!) my favorite was the one that opens pretty much all day because the chefs grill steaks and fresh seafood in front of you. The only catch is beware of folks trying to sell you things (upgrades, timeshare). That only happens during check in though, and you're free the whole weekend. If you're looking for a nice, relaxing Adults only All-Inclusive, then head to Sun Palace! The husby and I stayed during our anniversary over the summer and it was just the kiddo free vacay that we needed to recharge. It is on the smaller side compared to the rest of its sister Palace resorts, but Sun Palace suited our needs just fine. They usually have a resort credit offer available, so you are able to use those credits if you wanted to visit the bigger Moon Place/the Grand at Moon Palace or even Beach Palace. We went to all three just to compare and while the facilities at the Grand/Moon were exceptional, we were happy that we chose to stick with Sun Palace. We were originally booked in a Superior Deluxe ocean view, but upon check-in we upgraded to the Grand Level ocean view. I had asked to see both room options to decide and opted for the Grand Level as the room layout was preferential for us and the view was awesome. The infinity pool at Sun Palace was great, as was their swim up bar. Fave drinks are the Miami Vice (like a Hawaiian Lava flow) and the Mr. T made with 1800 Tequila. THE BEST! There is another pool near the outdoor cafe, but in the evening the patio area becomes a restaurant. So, kinda weird for me to be splashing in the pool while someone is dining right next to me. Ha. The lounge chairs at the beach were plenty. We were always able to get a chair/umbrella whenever we went down to the beach. The beachside service with food & drinks was super slow though. So you're better off getting your drinks at the pool bar and just taking them down to the beach. The water at the beach was BEAUTIFUL! The were times where the waves got a little choppy, but those moments were we could just float peacefully or swim in the ocean were priceless. This was our first all-inclusive experience and I was actually quite happy with all the food selections at Sun Palace. The Italian restaurant is a must, but do not expect much of the dessert offerings. The breakfast buffet was delicious each morning, as was the freshly squeezed green juice & the dulce de leche pastry! And all the alcohol! No extra fees or anything for the better brands of alcohol. Ha, I was in tequila heaven!!! They offer daily activities which you can choose to partake in or not..they don't force you like some other resorts I researched. They also have nightly activities at the bar - tequila tastings, salsa lessons, quiz games, etc... You can also use your resort credits toward activities outside of Sun Palace as well as towards the romantic beach dinner and massages. For the massages/beauty salon resort credit redemption, you can only use a specific amount of your credits towards the service, so you will still pay out of pocket for that. There is a local bus stop right outside Sun Palace that you can use to get you into the popular Hotel Zone. It is about a 15-20 minute ride and costs about $1 or less USD each way. Try to get pesos for this -you would take the R1 or R2 buses. You can also use your resort credit to take you to Moon Palace/the Grand at Moon Palace for the day. Just inquire at the activities desk. Although it was an all-inclusive stay and that gratuities were included, we did bring small bills of $1 & $5 USD to tip staff as well. A nice extra was that since we were there in July we were also able to witness the giant sea turtles laying their eggs on the beach at night. Everyone was in awe and just watching in silence (except for the few rude ones who were actually snapping flash photography while the turtles did their thing..c'mon now!). All in all, a great stay at Sun Palace and would totally recommend it to family and friends looking for some R&R. We are a 30 something year old DINK couple living in Phoenix, AZ area. We love Nobu just as much as we love Taco Bell.... So we enjoy nice things but are also down for being super basic. We booked this last minute based on all the great reviews, and we were trying to do a vacay on the cheap. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. Arrival was fine. We booked via Expedia and they took us to the 5th floor for "vip" check in even though there wasn't really anything vip about it. I would have preferred to just check in at the front reception desk....would have been quicker. Main women's lobby bathroom smelled strongly of sewage the entire trip. Like, really really bad. Service was overall fantastic. Special shout out to Miguel, Jose, and Carlos at the swim up bar, and Francisco, our waiter on the terrace of the Italian restaurant. The food is, quite frankly, awful. I mean, truly awful. I was honestly shocked given how most reviews say the food is great? I am not sure what people are eating on a regular basis, and as I said before, we eat everything from fast food to Mastro's/upscale dining...we did notice majority of people visiting here lived in Ohio, Nebraska, Oklahoma...perhaps they are just accustomed to different food quality than we are? Everyone we talked to while we stayed here raved about the food while we could barely eat it. We ate pizza by the pool and Nutella crepes at night to survive, lol. Everything was extremely bland, and at times, very questionable. The spicy tuna roll was sketchy af, it was pure brown and smelled like rotting fish. The meat in general was awful. Just poor quality even when it was a filet. We had one genuinely good dish at the Italian restaurant, it was a risotto with shrimp and mushrooms that we were told was a "special". The coffee bar is good. Ricardo, Alexis, and Angelo were absolute gems!!! The pools and beach were good. They had nice live music at the fun pool every day. The violinist was EXCEPTIONAL. 100/10. Service was great both on the beach and at the pool. The entertainment crew made things fun but wasn't over the top/nonstop/annoying. Alan, Jonathan, and Roberto are a great group. There is only one bar at night... I would prefer to have options, but it's good. They also have live entertainment and a dance floor. It's what you make it. We only went to one show - David Magee - it was super cheesy at first (promoting the "palace foundation" and asking for donations to support the staff???) and the ballroom was super hot, but the show was actually pretty great and enjoyable. We absolutely won't be back, and we def learned our lesson on booking a cheap vacay, but we did enjoy some relaxation, a ton of cocktails, and met some awesome people :) read more

We just got back from there yesterday. We spent 8 nights and loved the whole thing! The food was amazing! Shout out to Gaby at Tratoria and Aldo at Thai! I loved the app you download. You can request any amenity and schedule your dinner reservations. They put a key card on your wrist so you really don't have to carry anything around if you don't want to. Two infinity pools! Shows of many kinds each night around 9:00 to 9:30 for an hour. Shout out to Jonathan as he was "excelente"! The Mentalist shows was incredible! Sweet treats all day for crepes cookies cake and ice cream. Full coffee bar. (now I have to get an espresso machine so I can make Affogatos at home haha.) It's worth it to go to the sales pitch for the resort credits but know they will pressure you into buying but that's their job so I get it. Go with some cash for tips so you don't have to use the ATM. Go with thermos cups to put your cold drinks in so your ice don't melt. 10/10 trip! read more

I am giving Sun Palace 5 stars as this resort is an excellent place to get romantic w your partner. The restaurants cater to couples the servers are excellent at offering suggestions and making friendly conversation w you. Abel was my favorite in the Italian resturant. When my husband asked for cheese cake he told his hostess who then went and made a special request from one of the other eating areas and before we knew it hubby was eating cheese cake. Beautiful hotel. I went to Cancun during the low season. When we arrived at the hotel, check-in was a breeze. They even upgraded our room for free and handed us a delicious welcome drink. When booking they were offering resort credit. We had $500 to use at the resort. You can apply this towards spa, tours, lobster dinner on the beach, etc. Of course, there's a bit of a catch. You have to pay 16% tax and prices were very expensive. We opted for the "Lobster & Steak" five course dinner on the beach at night. The original resort cost was $350, we used our resort credit and paid $56 for it (16% tax). The resort credit is a way to make you spend more money. However, the dinner was incredible. We gladly paid the $56. We are from NYC and that would cost a fortune here. The food was excellent. We were about 8 couples and it was decorated beautifully and very romantic. I've never experienced a dinner like that. My only complaint was the Cabernet Sauvignon. Pasó Fino seems to be the most widely used red wine at the resort. It's pretty terrible and our bottle had been refrigerated and tasted rancid. The resort is all-inclusive, couples-only and in a very quiet area. The beach is amazing and you get an awesome view from the pool. We actually took an Uber to the downtown part of Cancun to visit CocoBongos on the last night. I highly recommend you do this. It was a phenomenal show. Keep in mind I visited during the low-season, Cancun was pretty quiet. I'm pretty sure this is not the case during high season. If your are coming to Cancun with your SO in a relaxing/romantic plan or with other couples this is a great option. All inclusive adult only resort, not massive not tiny, close to the airport, 15 min away to the night club area by bus, great beach and service . There are mostly condos around and the public entrance to the beach is far, so that area is not crowded. Since they belong to palace resorts with your wrist band you can visit the sister resorts in the same area or in Playa, Cozumel and isla mujeres. read more

For those that don't know, this an all-inclusive and "couples only" resort. We reserved a week of stay, from our associated time-share company, and took advantage of the Sun Palace. First impression upon arrival: ~ Tall, white, and pleasant! ~ Nothing fancy on the outside, nor as inviting compared to other resorts. But the lobby was clean and typical. Front-desk that offered me a drink and rose, and the resort associates on the right to help plan out your trip. Service from everyone was courteous from beginning to end. Room impression: ~ We had a room that faced the ugly neighboring condo, but after a few days switched to a different room without any issue from the staff. ~ The king sized bed and sheets were comfortable. ~ The spa in the room was loud yet relaxing. ~ Bathroom/shower area also clean. They even give you the good shampoo. ~ Fully stocked bar. Refill upon request. ~ About the patio, it depends on your room if you've got a large patio or not. Some have a large double beach bed. Others only have a table and chairs, but with little space to walk between. ~ Loved the lighting and the way it's set up. Although turning them on and off can be mind boggling. ~ The bathroom had a nice baby powder smell. Room service: ~ Small food portions. ~ Once they overcooked the mahi mahi. It came with a savory garlic lemon butter sauce, but it just didn't impress. A poor first impression. ~ The chicken tenders were also overcooked. I just didn't get it. ~ The soups they served, always came up cold. Not even sure what gives with that either. ~ Gouda quesadilla was really tasty with their homemade salsa and fresh quac. ~ Nachos with steak was quite salty, but again delicious with it's salsa and quac. ~ Shrimp ceviche, awesome! A bit too much lime, yet refreshing while chilling by the pool. ~ Margarita Pizza, pesto pasta, and cheese sticks... All decent as well. I'm so glad the food only got better throughout our stay. Resort restaurants (part of your purchased Meal Plan while staying here): ~ The Steak: Your buffet for grilled meats and seafood. I loved sitting out here and enjoying the perfect weather while eating dinner. ~ Lobby Bar: A fun place to lounge, kick it, and eat the little snacks they offer. Play some pong or chill at the bar, you've got an indoor air conditioned place to relax. ~ La Tratto: I forgot my fancy pants, so we never tried it. It's required. ~ El Alamo: Perfect for breakfast and dinner. Loved stacking up my ingredients for the cooks to create a giant omelet for me. Pastries, cheese, and different Mexican dishes are also prepared. Really romantic in the morning! ~ The Oriental: Eh, I really didn't enjoy any of the sushi or teppanyaki. This just isn't the place for Asian food honestly. They remodeled and tried to make it appealing to foreigners, but it's not satisfying. Sorry bout that Sun Palace. So, in summary, this is a pure "relaxation", "honeymooners" type of resort. Chill at the beach. Participate in some of their schedule activities like beach volleyball, water aerobics, cornhole, etc. You've got a couple of pools to play in. The Awe-Spa with a sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi (more details in my other review). Also providing beauty treatments and different massages. Yep, you're in resort to do "nothing"! You can pretty much get trough everything in a day, compared to it's sister resort the Moon Palace. You'll get catered at both places, only you won't be bothered staying at the Sun Palace. read more

My husband and I stayed here for 8 nights in March 2019, and it was a really lovely experience! I have previously stayed at the Moon Palace but preferred it here. The couples-only vibe is really great; everyone staying at the resort was respectful, friendly, and generally kept to themselves. My favorite part of our stay was relaxing and reading at the beach each day. The beach itself is beautiful, and the water, while a bit choppy, was very warm. The drink service down there is quite excellent. Daniel was wonderful and attentive! I also really enjoyed the evening shows (especially the Mexican heritage show and Jersey Boys) and the chef's dinner. There were two things in particular that bothered me a bit about our stay. The first was the noise in our room. We could hear each and every move our neighbors above made, as well as people in the hallway, and our room also faced the "activity" pool, which could be quite noisy. Secondly, the food was just ok, as many others have mentioned. I was a fan of Aurora, which is the higher-end Mexican restaurant, so we ate there most nights after trying the other restaurants. Overall, I'm very curious to see the renovations that are occurring soon. read more

This is my favorite of all the all inclusive resorts we have visited over the years. Sun Palace has a very boutique feel. The staff & service is first rate! Extremely attentive. Super friendly, upbeat & will go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied! The food at the main buffet is made in small batches or to order. They ask in every restaurant when you enter or make reservations if there are any food allergies or special requests. The infinity pools are stunning! The beach, soft fluffy cool sand. The sea is crystal clear! Most loungers are cushioned. Plenty of chairs, abundant towels. Outstanding pool concierge service. The resort is immaculately clean & smells amazing. They greet you with cool towels, flowers for the ladies and immediately offer you a beverage! The rooms are beautiful, clean and well appointed. No need to bring a blow dryer or flat iron Chi products are provided. Sun Palace is all you could expect and more in the way of all inclusive. We can't wait to return! Worth the expense. Is there better way to spend Christmas and New Years but on a beach with a book and umbrella drink in my hand? Nope. Be it Bermuda, St. John or, of course, Cancun. Escaping long New York winter for a mandatory dose of sunshine is a tradition. All-inclusive resorts is what I look for in Cancun, since I don't want to worry about nothing at all. And Sun Palace is one of the best. There are all-inclusive, and there are alllllllll-inclusive. With promotion they run often, you get resort credits - and those are really good deal. You can use them on many things, from upgrading your room to sightseeing trips. First things first - do upgrade your room to concierge level with credits. Those rooms are gorgeous, quiet, and have balconies with view of the pool and the ocean. Oh, and jacuzzi, too! You will get some service benefits with it as well, of course. Rest of the credits - trips, spa, wine upgrades and anything you wish. It is pretty awesome. Now, this is all-inclusive resort, so all food and drinks (even pool-side and on the beach), are free of charge (just don't forget to tip wonderful staff!). Restaurant is pretty good. It has few areas to choose different fare - from regular buffet to Mexican fare to outdoor grill. There are several bars in the resort, indoors and out, if you just want to grab a drink. Looking for something special and romantic? Concierge private dining on a beach is available with your credits. Want to try different cuisine? You can dine at any other 4 Palace locations in Cancun! Yep. Just grab a cab or bus and go. They can arrange cab for you at resort desk. There is an excellent exercise room, my only gripe that it was not open 24/7 - I prefer to pick my own hours to avoid crowds (it does get crowded). Of course we all come here for sunshine, and the best part of the resort are multiple pools (including infinity pool) and gorgeous white sand beach. Concierge level guest get to use separate beach area, so it is easier to find a lounge and bathe in hot Cancun sun or jump into clean blue waters.... Amazing Experience This is our second time in two years staying at Sun Palace. The first was for our honeymoon, which was lovely. They do require a marriage certificate in order to get the perks (a honeymoon dinner, and a surprise champagne/rose petals one evening upon returning from dinner). The service always blows me away here, and the steakhouse is one of my favorite restaurants as the meat is made on an open grill outside. I have 99% good things to say about my experience(s) here. You are truly treated like a VIP without having to join a VIP program. I seriously mean it. I worked in hospitality for five years on the executive team. This place has the best service you could possibly ask for. Everyone is trained at the highest level. Speaking of VIP, however, the only bad thing is that we made the mistake of going to the membership presentation which was clear that they were trying to sell us something. We did end up joining but negotiated it down to a reasonable amount of weeks (they start you at 200, who the hell is ever going to use that many weeks in a lifetime?). This meant that we were invited to a "membership update" presentation the following year, but we were straight up lied to. We asked if it was a sales pitch to upgrade but was told that it was just because things change in the membership everywhere and it'd just be 90 minutes of reviewing details of our current membership. Nope, four hours later and saying no to five different sales people, it was definitely another sales pitch. Everyone was nice and all, I mean they were in sales but it wasn't until we flipped out and said we wanted to leave that they actually let us go. Take the sales experience out of it (just say no upon arrival unless you're legit interested) and it's a perfect vacation. read more

Sun Palace is the #4 rate hotel in Cancun. It is also rated #1 most romantic hotel in Cancun. This hotel is adults only/couples only and for people looking to enjoy time with their significant other without all the noise. This hotel is for people looking to spend time here, relax and enjoy the ocean, and amenities. If you are looking for an adrenaline packed resort - see Moon Palace. THE ROOMS: Clean, white, modern, and hellllllo hot tub! We upgrade fro only $35 extra a night to an Ocean view Suite. Well worth it. The view was one of the best I have ever seen. The room was modern but still comfortable and that is a hard balance to meet. The shower was incredible. Loved the double vanities. Everything in this room was built for a couple and I loved that! THE FOOD: They have one restaurant open breakfast, lunch and dinner and the buffet was not your average buffet. I read before the food was not good in Mexico so I had low expectations. What I got was INSANE! Full fresh fish buffet - several different kinds of raw fish they throw it on the griddle for you. Same with meat - steak, pork, burger etc. Tons of fresh fruit, veggies that looked like they picked them THAT MORNING! I am a stickler for quality and the food was above and beyond anything we ever expected. I would book again just for the food. The Italian restaurant was fine dining and how they let you eat whatever you want included in the all inclusive price is BEYOND me. I had so much steak and red wine this week I felt like I was robbing them blind! THE POOLS: We went to all of the other Palace Resorts on our trip and this hotel has by far the best pools. The infiniti pools really do make all the difference. You seriously don't know where the water ends and the ocean begins! The pools also allowed you to put your chair IN THE WATER! I was geeking out with this because I love to lay out, but it was hot as heck. Also loved that they didn't have a million activities and mostly left you alone. They did have a volleyball and polo game every day at around noon that we participated in and it was great! Just enough to have fun but nothing crazy and annoying that bothered anyone else. THE BARS: Love the swim up bar! Probably our favorite. The local lounge bar was awesome because it has an outdoor patio that overlooked the infinity pool and ocean. Shout out to Ignacio at the small pool bar, he made us really cool creative shots and was so friendly and charming! By far our fav bartender on our trip! THE NIGHTLIFE: We were so busy we didn't get to enjoy but they had shows or entertainment every night. We even saw Michael Jackson walking around promoting his show ;) THE SPA: You can only use up to $300 in resort credits for the spa. Any service over is extra + tax. We booked a couples massage and it came out to about $50 out of pocket which was TOTALLY worth it. Not the biggest or most luxurious spa I have ever been to but nice, and clean. Disappointed there was no beach side massage option. The massage however - probably top 2 best I have ever had. THE CREDITS: Yes, you get $1500 in credits when you book. You pay the tax only on whatever you choose to do. Great incentive if you are adventurous and want to book excursions. No other hotel chains that I know of do this. We only used $300 in resort credits for the spa. TRAVEL TO OTHER RESORTS: You can take the shuttle to Moon palace daily from 1pm and come back at 5 or 7pm. We loved Moon but we preferred Sun Palace because it was so intimate. Beach Palace rooftop pool was amazing during the early morning. Advice: take bus there only 5 mins, $2 and have breakfast spend the afternoon there. We didn't get a chance to go to Isles Mujeres but heard it was beautiful. Lastly, LE BLANC is NOT included in the resorts you are allowed to visit. (They are actually operated by a different management company) OVERALL: This was not our honeymoon, but it was definitely the most romantic and best vacation we have ever taken, and like I said we are already planning our next trip back this year and possibly even getting married here. That is not something I have ever done before as I like to explore new places, but we just could not get over how incredible and almost dream-like our stay at Sun Palace was. All inclusive resorts make me nervous. For one, I hate sales presentations. So when we booked this I had my expectations set mid to low. We arrived by private car that we set up online. Which I highly recommend. It's only a few bucks more and you don't share the van. The driver was very nice as well. So this resort is one of the first from the airport and it took us literally 15 minutes to get to Sun Palace. Most of the hopping resorts are closer to downtown but farther from the airport. I personally like being away from the crowds so we were happy. The main reason we picked Sun Palace was the adults only aspect to their property but the close proximity to the airport is definitely another great reason to stay here. When we pulled up it looked really nice. The lobby is close to the road as opposed to other properties we saw. It gave it a very personal feel. Greeted with a cold towel and a flower for my girl and the attentive bell person handled our bags quickly. When we went into the lobby it had such a great smell! I had to find out how they did that! I later found out that they have a little machine hidden that pumps the scent in. I want this machine!! Now the waiting game begins. We arrived at around 12:15pm and checkin isn't until 3pm. I was hoping they would let us use the pool until our room was ready. I went to the front desk and checked in and would you believe our room was ready! They put the wrist band on us (wrist band is a bit cheesy and you are a definite mark if you go to downtown) but it seems like a good way to deal with getting around the resort. After we checked in they said we needed to go speak with the activities director or whatever they called it. I know what was next. High pressure sales. We asked to go to the room first and they gladly said ok. Our room was clean and nice but my girl didn't like the view so we went down and asked about changing rooms. The guy at the front desk was so helpful! He actually showed us two other rooms! He took us himself. I've never experienced that at a hotel. We decided to upgrade to an ocean view (non-concierge level). It cost me $96 more for our 5 night stay. Well worth it. So we got to our room. Hot tub in room, clean, beautiful view, small balcony. Fully stocked not so mini bar. They want you to drink there!! Then we went down to the sales person. She was very nice. She explained the hotel credit thing. We were considering using to upgrade our room but they no longer allow you to use the credit for room upgrades. At that point the credits were useless to us. I told her I was not interested and that was that. No high pressure. Just some details on tours etc. the whole process took about ten minutes and was totally painless. This resort is small. It has around 250 rooms as opposed to their other Cancun property Moon Palace, which has like 2000 rooms! You do have the right to use the Moon and Beach Palace properties as well. Beach Palace is an easy bus ride on the R1 or R2 for 10 pesos. Beach Palace has a bigger feel with so many kids and the food was terrible. I'll pass. One good thing about visiting the Beach Palace was seeing just how good of a choice we made choosing the Sun Palace. Being from Manhattan is hard when we travel because food is so damn good here in NYC. Overall the food was not great here but what really makes this place special are the people working there. When you ask for something they all say "It's my pleasure." For the most part it really feels like they really mean it too. It's evident that the management here is strong and keeps everybody motivated and happy. So to sum up; this place is really special and we will definitely be back to Sun Palace. read more

A couples paradise. From the moment you step in to the sad day you have to get your wrist band cut, you were treated with the utmost respect and were pampered from head to toe. Upon arriving, you're welcomed by smiling staff, cold refreshing drinks and a cool hand towel for a quick revitalization. Our concierge at the front desk, Miguel, whom we frequently got excellent service from offered us a room upgrade for a better view for an additional $15 USD a day. Upon seeing it, there was no question: an amazing beachfront view where you can wake up to an epic sunrise. Tina quickly gave high appraisal as our bathroom amenities were stocked full of CHI products and equipment (hair dryer and straightener). The inroom jacuzzi was frequently used and was a great way to top off a day's worth of relaxing. The food was never a disappointment. All of the restaurants always gave us a smile from the casual buffet to the upscale Italian à la carte establishment. My favorite thing about the eating at this resort is the ability to choose fresh sea food to be cooked. In fact anything that they can grill I look forward to. There's just something mesmerizing as the cooks do their magic battling flame and heat to bring a bounty of flavors to your mouth. Throughout the day, the entertainment staff have always got something cooked up for the patrons to partake in: trivia contests, water polo, belly dancing shows, water zumba, the list goes on. The resort also offers credits where you simply pay the tax on said services.
