Mediocre food in a diner-type environment or seated on a patio overlooking a parking lot. One item was marked as a gluten-free option, waitress noted dishes may be modified. I ordered the huevos rancheros. Everything tasted like it came out of a can or package. At the time of ordering, plus upon entreee delivered, they didn't notify the homemade burrito sauce was left off because it's not GF. Coffee was bitter. I had some friends decide where we'd meet (since I was the out-of-towner) for a breakfast that included a bloody Mary and this is where we went. In a strip mall, I probably wouldn't have found this one on my own, but the food was tasty, so I was happy. Sundance Grill reminds me, remarkably, a lot of Big Boy. Yes, the restaurant everyone knows all across the country (and if they don't, they're missing out). Only, there are two little twists to this Big Boy... the biggest twist; they serve alcohol. The other twist is they're kinda southwest themed. Breakfast and lunch seem to be the biggest draws here. They offer a variety of skillets (usually some combination of a protein, potatoes, cheese and varying veggies depending on what skillet you get), omelettes, and a few of the standards (eggs and bacon with toast). Lunch/dinner options are an array of sandwiches and burritos and other items that require the use of a tortilla. They do have some nice twists on some menu items, but nothing particularly unique that would cause me to go back just to get this one thing that I can only get at Sundance. The decor is definitely an upgrade from the Big Boy scene though... it's a bit classy and kinda dark. Carpeted floors (except for in the small bar area) and booths for the majority of seating options. During the warmer months they do offer outside seating also which is super dope. Service is pretty average. I've never been "wowed" with a visit here, but I've never left grumbling under my breath and refused to tip my server either. Breakfast is usually what I find myself here for, but rarely because this place consistently has a wait on the weekends to be seated even for small parties. Given the other options in the area for a so-so breakfast, I'd rather go somewhere else most of the time just so I don't have to wait for my table. But, once every 3 months or so, Sundance seems like it's worth the hassle... and after leaving, I'm never sure why I thought that. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it's just that for the average-ness of everything, I think I'd be better off somewhere I didn't have to wait for a table. Prices are typical, you're looking around $8-$11 a person here which is fair. Sundance, you're okay. But you're nothing special in my book either. read more

My guest and I visited this restaurant when we were visiting for an event recently. LOVE the Sunday brunch there! Good skillet/scramble. Good coffee. Wished I tried the fresh squeezed OJ but for some reason I didn't get it. Very good cinnamon roll....better make sure you SHARE the cinnamon roll though! I researched a place that had gluten free options. I chose Sundance because they did. None of those were available except a bowl of soup, which was the worst, most flavorless soup I've ever had. This lovely establishment happened to be open immediately after the memorial day parade this weekend. We had never been there before but they were one of the few places that were open for us. The bacon burger was fantastic and there was almost too much food with the club and Ruben. Horrible service and uncooked food, on 4 separate occasions On 4 separate occasions over a 3 1/2 year period, we have had either horrible service, uncooked food or both. After the the first occasion of uncooked food (raw fish tacos), we stopped going to this place. But after a year or more had passed, we decided to give it another try. Maybe now they had their act together. Nope. Last week, I ordered a chicken quesadilla for lunch and when I pulled apart the first slice, something oozed out of it that was clear and slimy -- something that looked like raw egg. Disgusting. On a previous occasion, a large group of us we went for Father's Day brunch. It was busy and after 40 minutes of waiting with very small children, we were told that they were clearing our tables and we would be seated momentarily. A few minutes later, another large group walked in and were given our tables (clearly they were either friends of the owner or the host). We were given no explanation. No "Gee, we're sorry". No "Oops! we made a mistake". Nothing. As when we asked about our tables, they simply said we'd get the next available tables. Like we hadn't heard that before. We left. There are many good, great, and outstanding restaurants in the Grand Rapids area, and this place doesn't fit into any of those categories. read more

This used to be one of the best Breakfast spots in GR. Ate there almost 2-3 times a month. We moved away for two years and after moving back, could not wait to eat there again... Boy oh boy what two years difference makes. The food was less than desirable, didn't come out as ordered, restaurant was dirty and I had no upgrades or changes made just look all together ran down. Had a disappointing experience here on a Sunday morning. The service was poor and the food was very average. One entree was prepared wrong and the waitress did nothing to correct it. No offer to replace or remove from bill. I can live with one or the other but poor service and average food means can't go back. Too many other breakfast options nearby like Bob Evans or IHOP. read more

I had a lot of high hopes for brunch at Sundance. The photos looked amazing and I really was looking forward to the Bloody Mary. The good news is our server was friendly, and the food was delicious. The bad news is the food took almost an hour to be served. We had to ask for our drinks. Our server was apologetic but one has to wonder what was going on behind the scenes. We had no wait to get in. The restaurant was busy but not overwhelmingly so. The final straw was I went to the women's room before we left and there was no toilet paper in my stall. I was stuck. My pet peeve. I am a breakfast snob. Maybe it is because my father always made the best breakfast spread for my brother and I when we were growing up. We never went out for breakfast because no one could make the morning meal as great as my pops. However, after I grew in to adulthood I began to love going out to brunch! My husband and I go to this Resturant almost every week for breakfast. Normally the service is good. However, this time my experience was not acceptable. It was our first time with this sever. Either he has never been a waiter before or just was rude. Every request I had made (being a minority woman) was ignored. It was until my request was my by my husband (white male) that he actually fulfilled the request. Not to mention the way he spoke to me was way more "sassy" then the way he spoke to my husband. Call it what you may, but I'm aware what it's like to be treated differently due to my appearance. And because of this situation, I would label it as such. I asked for menus and he ignored that request (it wasn't until I asked the manager for menu did we receive it). He brought out our waters and only gave my husband a straw, after I asked for one ( he never gave me one. I had to ask another waitress), 3rdly, I requested some condiments for my food. Hash brown game strong with this one. Great mix of Mexican/American bfast. Mostly known for their bfast I love hitting this place just make sure to avoid Sunday rush they get slammed! I've eaten here twice now - once for breakfast and once for dinner. At breakfast, the service was incredibly slow and the food was not too impressive. The breakfast menu was very appealing, so perhaps it was my choice that wasn't so great (huevos rancheros). A companion got a cinnamon roll that looked amazing. For dinner, we had two appetizers -- a quesadilla and the spinach artichoke dip. The blue corn tortilla chips that came with the dip were stale, but the dip was tasty. The quesadilla was good, but not spectacular in any way. I ordered a cup of roasted corn chowder with my meal. It was rich an delicious, though not hot enough (temperature wise). My turkey reuben was quite good, and the fries were fine, but also not hot enough. I asked about the oil used to fry the fries and was told they use non-hydrogenated soybean oil. My dinner companions spoke favorably about the regular reuben, cheeseburger, and various omelettes they ate. My husband wasn't excited about his steak and his asparagus was swimming in oil. I skipped dessert because they said only two of the desserts on the menu are actually made there. read more

Beyond that I ordered the "Arizona egg rolls" which tasted like something that has been rolling around on a 7-11 warming rack for 3 weeks. The ranch it came with was tasty but the egg rolls were rough. Next came the steak burrito. I was debating between the fajitas and the burrito so asked for the onions and peppers to be put in the burrito mashing the two together. Stopped in for a early Monday dinner, had the pork & chorizo enchiladas. They were very good, tempurature very , flavorful & meaty. The table next to me ordered the rueben sandwich , it was huge and looked delicious. I've been here before and try a different item each time, and haven't been disappointed yet. Service was good for being a slow night. One table left without tipping their server, I'm not sure why, he was available, the whole staff was friendly & helpful. One of the worst experiences ever. Went because it was a fundraising night for our son's high school. Waited 15 minutes to even get a drink order in, then finished our drinks and waited some more. We eventually went to the bar to get another round of drinks. Server finally took our orders, after which we commenced to wait again. 30 minutes later some of our party's food arrived. Two orders were completely wrong and one order wasn't delivered. We did manage to get in another drink order. The last dinner arrived about 10 minutes later. Food finished, and we waited. Again. When the bills finally arrived one of our party asked to see the manager; manager refused to talk to her. Never again. By the way, the food was mediocre at best and overpriced. read more

I've been to both locations. I think the Downtown location is a little more consistent, but I've had good experiences at both. Their BLT Bloody Mary is really good, and I usually got with the Popeye scramble, also consistent and delicious. During lunch I go with the Southwest Wedge salad which is delicious too.
