We came here for a birthday lunch on a Saturday around noon with a party of three and waited about 10 minutes to be seated. We ended up on the patio, which was honestly the best part of the experience. It felt like a little garden with lots of greenery, water fountains, and heaters, and it was a really nice place to spend a leisurely lunch. We ordered the pecan bacon waffle and the biscuits with eggs. Both were fine but not very memorable. I also tried the sesame and matcha latte, which sounded more exciting than it actually was. Service was friendly but not very attentive. Our water glasses were never refilled during the entire meal, which stood out. Portions were also on the smaller side for the price. I know this is Sonoma and things are generally expensive, and it feels like people come here more for the ambiance than the food, but the value just didn't quite line up. Overall, this was a solid three-star experience for me. If you're staying around Sonoma Square, food options are limited, so this works if you're prioritizing atmosphere and location, but I wouldn't go out of my way for the food. read more

This spot was very busy when we arrived. There was a line out the door waiting to be seated. The indoors had a nice modern vibe. We got seated in the back patio which was surprisingly spacious. I got the turkish eggs, but it was pretty underwhelming. There was way too much Greek yogurt to egg ratio and it just lacked flavor overall. The chai latte was also okay. A little too sweet for my liking. As busy as they were, they checked in on us at least once. read more

This place has good ratings/reviews so I was here for breakfast and had the following: Sweet Corn Scramble Breakfast Biscuit Peach and Cream Waffles The scramble was good and tasted very fresh. The addition of corn was not traditional and I respected that...it was something unique. My companion's biscuit was very good - a buttery buttermilk biscuit with nice fluffy eggs and cheese. The waffles were okay...the batter used was nothing special, but I did enjoy the fresh peaches in the dish. The ambiance is cute - really leaned into the "relaxed wine country" vibe from around the area. The service was very friendly. The price point was high for the experience...this isn't a fancy place by any means and for two people (three entrees, no drinks, no coffee/juice) it was almost $100. I realize that dining in the Bay Area/wine country can be expensive (even for "casual" spots), but this seemed a little much. Went to this place with my family on our way back from Sonoma last weekend. It took around 15 mins for us to get the table as I think they were under staff since enough empty tables were available. I must say the ambiance was nice & they made the place very cozy with heaters & were also giving blankets. We dined in after about a 45 minute wait although it was a weekend and the restaurant was very busy. The outdoor seating was a nice environment with plenty of shade and fans. We shared a waffle and the bread for starters. The waffle was just okay but the chantilly cream was beautiful. The pumpkin bread was moist and flavorful but the espresso butter was definitely the standout. Walt from Walt's Adventures here and I find myself at the Sunflower Cafe in Sonoma, California. This charming eatery is located around the main square area, has both indoor and outdoor seating and also has a wonderful covered backyard area. We were directed to the small front dining and fell in love with the ambiance. The beverages were skillfully created as well as the dishes we selected. I must admit that their Wagyu steak needs no additional sauce to enhance its flavor. It was the most tender steak I had the pleasure of eating and I dare say must have been the star of their menu. We came on a Sunday around 9:30am and waited about 5 minutes before we were seated outside. There was a fountain and space heaters so it felt warm and cozy. Our table was towards the back of the outdoor area so it was somewhat covered and close to trees. There were some fresh flowers in a small vase that added a nice touch to the overall ambiance. Brown butter maple latte was soooo good, on the sweeter side and I would order again. Matcha latte was very green and tasted quite earthy with a hint of sweetness. Turkish eggs were so flavorful and had plenty of sauce to go with the bread. The server offered more bread and I definitely took her up on that on that offer because there was so much sauce I didn't want to go to waste! We wandered in here after glancing at the menu and seeing they offered gluten free options, little did I know that almost their entire menu can be done gluten free!! We started with mimosas, had the peach, lavender and classic. The lavender was out of this world! Had our meals that consisted of the Wagyu Steak Grilled Cheese (on gluten free bread), the Chicken Avocado Grilled Cheese (on gluten free bread) and their Sweet Summer Corn Scramble. We come to Sunflower every time we visit Sonoma. The location is great, right on the square. Sunflower feels like three cafes in one. Sit outside out front, makes for great people watching, grabbing something to go to bring back to your Airbnb, and picking up some fun gifts, hats or teas, etc... for souvenirs. Last time we were there (ate there twice in four days!) we had a lovely brunch in the back garden area. They had a ton of beautiful fresh flowers in the fountain and portable heaters that help reduce the morning chill. I would highly suggest their kale Caesar with chicken for lunch, the Sunflower grilled cheeses are legendary, and the scrambled asparagus breakfast I had was tasty! A few notes, the bacon came crispy. I liked it that way, and thought it was perfect, but my friend found it too crispy. Just a matter of opinion but worth keeping in mind. I'm not sure what the jam was, maybe strawberry? But it was yummy if not a little sweet. Overall, a good experience, I'd recommend it, and I'd come back. I'm deducting a star because originally I was going to order a waffle, but both my friend who had been here before, and the employee here that I asked, said it was a single, small, light waffle. This has quite easily become one of my favorite places to make the drive to for the food and the vibes. Sunflower Caffe is a beloved place in Sonoma that my family and I have come to love. The staff here are so incredibly attentive and are honest about their menu. I had asked once about a menu item and the waiter was so forthcoming about how I could make a better choice and since then, I have always found that I want to come back due to the honesty. I will say from experience, the best time to come is late spring/early summer when the weather is perfect for the outdoor patio area that seems to be their main dining area. It's also the most perfect time because their flowers in the vicinity are in bloom and fragrant. As for the food, it is mostly all delicious and the best thing we always love ordering is their peaches and cream waffle in the summer. I would say skip on the stuffed peppers unless you really enjoy things like it. The smoked salmon dip is much better in comparison with depth of flavor and more variety to the plate. Sunflower Caffe has all of the Sonoma charm you'd expect in a prime plaza historic location, complete with outdoor seating across their secret garden-y back patio space where we asked to sit. I knew I wanted to sit outside because 1.) duh, the weather here is quintessential patio-weather as long as it's shady, and 2.) It's a clean and cute little hideaway in the middle of the busy plaza. We arrived at opening on a Saturday morning and were seated right away. This place definitely fills up fast, especially on a weekend. Our waiter was sweet and attentive and handled a lot of parties at once. I started with a much appreciated and needed espresso, then the guava mimosa which was super fresh and fruity, but maybe on the too-sweet-side for me... I usually prefer grapefruit or cranberry with bubbles for that extra bitter bite. Meanwhile, I thoroughly enjoyed the gluten free oat waffle with peaches and cream (and syrup and butter) plus a side of sausage. It was all top quality, nothing but yummy, beautifully plated food. Brunch on an early weekend morning before the square is filled with wine tasters and shoppers has been something I haven't experienced since moving to Sonoma over a year ago. The garden patio was chilly and quiet, but no complaints with the multitude of heaters around us. The coffee was hot and warmed us up before the delicious food arrived. Not a morsel was left behind. Outdoor garden seating was nice. It was an unseasonably hour day. There was some shade and sun poking through. Our waiter didn't seem to quite understand us, so that was a bit odd, I had to always repeat myself, for my order and questions. And ask for things twice. But all in all the food was pretty, and flavorful. My mom had a beet and burrata salad with citrus and pistaccio. Dad a grilled cheese which looking like greasy gooey goodness And I went with the vegan wrap. It was filling; curried cauliflower, quinoa and greens with hummus and pickled onions. I liked it. Super cute breakfast joint in Sonoma! We were lucky enough to snag a table on the beautiful patio. We came here on a busy Saturday morning, so I definitely recommend arriving early to ensure a seat. Our server was very nice, but it was obvious he was feeling overwhelmed -- we were a large group as is, and I'm sure he had multiple others tables, so it was very understandable. Aside from a few hiccups on drink orders, everything came out correctly. The menu is farm-to-table style, which is my favorite when it comes to breakfast and brunch. The vanilla latte was the perfect drink to sip on while waiting for my breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was the classic bacon, egg, and cheese with garlic aioli on a brioche bun. I do wish it came with a side for more a complete meal. A side of breakfast potatoes is an additional $7 which seems to be a little excessive. They have a large outdoor patio outback and some indoor seating. We waited around 15 minutes before sitting inside on a busy Saturday morning. I was really in love with their healthy shots, both being really refreshing and definitely felt homemade. Their coffees were really tasty as well, though their dirty chai was a hit or miss (day 1, great, day 2 it was ok). I think their simple things are just as good as their more unique items - I loved the avocado toast as the avocado was nice and salty and the fun extras were unique. First time in this lovely walk-in café with two front entrances. I joined a friend who was sitting in the rear courtyard where a three tier water fountain trickled in the center. About 20 or more tables were full. The courtyard was surrounded by lovely greenery and abundant flowers. Service was fast and friendly. I had a green juice smoothie and egg and cheese sandwich. My friend had a 16 ounce latte with an order of Turkish eggs. Tables cleared and new visitors were rotated in while others were rotated out very efficiently; yet we never felt rushed at all. Our food and drinks were excellent and the courtyard ambience gave it an extra special vibe. A 4% health and happiness fee was added to our bill. Given our very positive experience, I was both surprised and happy to pay for the well-being of their great staff. Sonoma can get quite warm, so breakfast or an early brunch would be recommended. It barely had any meat or egg in it and mostly potatoes in a burrito wrap. The wait was quick it was 15 mins for a a weekend brunch at 10 am. The ambiance was good with a nice patio and the prices were fair and reasonable. The service was completely horrible. The servers rushed you and were so sloppy. At one point, the server was literally dropping utensils in an attempt to rush clearing out the tables. I love fish roe, so wanted to try the chips and caviar. I think it needed onion or something to cut into all the saltiness. Roe = salty, chips - salty, it needed more than just the creme fraiche and chives. I was very happy with the coffee here. And our server kept it coming which was much appreciated. One thing to note, they do charge a 15% Health & Happiness Tax (which is subject to sales tax). I'm pretty sure this goes to all staff members, so we didn't consider that our tip. We did only tip 15% instead of the usual 20% plus, since the machine included the health tax in our subtotal. Just one thing to note since you may be spending over 40% of the food and drink costs on tip and tax. I did our calculations and with sales tax, it was an extra 42.59%. Glad I checked this place out. It's cute. And on a nice day, I'm sure the patio is super fun. But food wise, I thought everything was just A-OK. Bumping up for the awesome coffee service. NOTE IN RESPONSE TO COMMENT ON REVIEW: I wish our server said something as we were openly discussing the Health and Happiness Tax (and what it included) before we paid the bill.
