My eyes were definitely bigger than my wallet. I kept loading my tray with this and that pastry and ended up with a $30+ bill. I am glad I ordered the hot cafe mocha less sweet because inadvertently I didn't get a savory pastry. The mochi donuts are so soft and chewy. Way better than that donut shop in Pasadena. I liked the Oreo mochi donut more than the macha green tea because the latter was too sweet. I really shouldn't but each and every pastry in the box I bought is calling to me. Really disappointed that I paid $6 for this strawberry tea and they couldn't even fill the cup all the way. Normally, the strawberry green tea has a lot of flavor but today the tea flavor is super light and the cup wasn't even full. Aside from the super watery drink, the customer service was nice. The boba here is pretty good. I came here on a Friday afternoon for a boba and a quick snack. The boba was fresh and the milk tea was good. Not too sweet and I could taste the tea flavor. I also ordered a mochi donut, viet coffee flavored and it was very good. A little stale for a mochi donut but the flavor was so good. We had just eaten dinner nearby and while walking around came across this bakery right before closing time. They offer a buy 5 pastries and get 1 free deal at the end of the day but it should be more like everything half price to get rid of everything. Because most people don't like day old bread. Been coming to Sunmerry ever since they opened up. Although it is a bakery, I usually only come here for the drinks. My go-to is the salted-cheese coffee if I'm coming in the morning. I would say that I like it most days, but it can be inconsistent in taste. There is a certain thickness that the salted-cheese needs to be in order for the overall drink to taste good since you don't use a straw to drink, but rather sip it at a certain angle so that you drink the coffee while getting a taste of the salted-cheese to give a salty/sweet taste to the coffee. There are times that the salted-cheese is too thick and when you try to sip on the drink, you either only get coffee (which is usually just like drinking plain black coffee) or only salted-cheese foam. I have been alternating between getting it hot or cold, and it seems to ring true for either temperature drink. However, when it is made correctly, the overall drink taste fantastic. I'll often add on an extra hot dog bun as well, but unfortunately, they only have a frank roll which is a long hot dog bread topped with cheese, honey mustard, and parsley compared to the classic round hot dog bun they have at most other Asian bakeries. If I'm coming after 10AM where the rest of the drink menu opens up, I usually will order either the Salted Cheese with Jasmine Green Tea or my favorite, the Grapefruit Jasmine Green Tea. I have the same feelings regarding the consistency of the salted cheese, but I feel that the grapefruit green tea has been pretty spot on every time I've come. I do feel that they put a lot of ice in their drinks, so I'd recommend to request less ice. PARKING: located in the Camilla Plaza. Can get very crowded since there are a ton of restaurants here. Would recommend just going to the underground structure during any mealtime rush periods. When I first walked in here I thought I was at 85C Bakery. Some of the items are exactly the same, such as the brioche bread and blueberry cream cheese pastry. Even the paper cups for the baked good are the same ones used by 85C. It's the same "self-serve" style where you grab a tray and load it with items you want. As far as taste and quality, I think this place does a better job, although that's not saying much since I never thought 85 was all that great. According to the website this place was originally founded in Japan in the 1960s and introduced to Taiwan in 1986. It's a Taiwanese bakery but uses Japanese baking technique. All items are made fresh daily. It has also partnered with Happy Lemon, which is known for making salted cheese tea drinks, so you can get baked goods and drinks in one place. I tried, Ube, Black Sesame Mochi, Green Tea Croissant, Mochi Taro, and one of the strawberry tea drinks with salted cheese. I liked all the baked goods I got, especially the Mochi Taro. It had subtle taro flavor, and was nice and chewy. My least favorite was the Green Tea Croissant. It just didn't have much flavor. None of the items were overly sweet, which I liked. The strawberry drink I got was good, but I don't think it would've been that good without the salted cheese. By the way, this place has an instruction on proper way of drinking salted cheese beverages. I've been doing it wrong all these years. You are not suppose to shake nor use a straw. You are suppose to sip at a 45 degree angle to taste each layer separately. If this place was located closer to me I would visit more often. Came here to pick up a birthday cake for the fam recently. I got the mixed fruit paradise which came out to 35~36$. It was pretty good! The texture was very soft and I loved the pudding in the cake. It made it taste like I was eating a pudding milk tea flavored cake. I also love how they gave us a set of utensils with plates, candles, and a birthday sign! I heard about cheese tea before it started getting popular and this place was reported for starting or popularizing the tea. Reasonable bread prices, they started serving mochi donuts which are good. As others mentioned, the tea with salted cheese were delish! Oh my goodness! I am literally crying in joy. I have had the BEST Grapefruit Green Tea (GGT) ever. Period. I recently had GGT from Tea Brick and that was amazingly good but ohemgee, Sunmerry has it the best, hands down!!! So my review is only for the drink and NOT for the bakery. Their bakery section looked pretty awesome because I saw many matcha selections! I was too full to try them since I just had lunch before visiting Sunmerry. I have been addicted to GGT since I dont know how many years, maybe 3-4 years ago. That is like the only thing I drink these days. Everywhere I go, I look at the menu to see if they have GGT. If they dont, I go to the next one on my list. Theyre so refreshing and its just soooo good. Gah, I cant even express how happy I was when I first took a sip of GGT from Sunmerry. One morning my cousin brought some pastries to try out. "These are really good!" he said as he pointed at this "Super Garlic" a bun filled with a combination of sour cream and garlic butter. "You haven't had anything like this before," he continued. Oh really? We'll see about that... I noticed that this pastry was cut in four sections. As I found out it was meant to be pulled out one section at a time before eating it. Okay... PSA: Save your money here due to COVID. It is not worth it. I used to be a frequent customer. However, the quality has gone down the toilet. Strike #1: This location also serves bubble tea under Happy Lemon. The boba here is a complete hit or miss. It's like playing Russian roulette. I had a similar experience as Susy L. Do not go around lunchtime because there is a chance your "fresh" boba is from last night. I have nothing against Happy Lemon. I have gone to independent Happy Lemon locations and their drinks are great. The Salted Cheese drinks are definitely worth trying. Just don't do it here. It's a bakery at best. Not a tea place. Strike #2: The plastic cups here are extremely thin. One time I received a cup with a crack. I didn't see it at the store because an employee covered it up with the order label. As you drink, the crack got worse and worse. This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Again, I have nothing against Happy Lemon. The cups I have received at independent Happy Lemon are different. Strike #3: I have purchased several cakes from here and they are not bad including the same kind of cake, Black Forest Cake. However, my most recent purchase was a scam. It is a complete bait and switch. Take a look at attached photo. About 75% of the cake was whipped cream. In the past, it was about 50% or less, which is a great ratio. If I wanted to eat whip cream so much, I could have just bought cans of whipped cream from my local grocery store. It's ridiculous. It seems like the cake portion is dying out and they are using more whipped cream to increase profit margin. Maybe the next time it will filled with whipped cream with one layer of cake. I was ecstatic to find out there was an Asian (Taiwanese?) pastry/ cake place closer to me! My family and friends love and crave for these types of pastries (especially birthday cakes!). My bf's sister loves tiramisu so I wanted to give it a shot. Long story short, we are disappointed with how the cake turned out. It was extremely dry, and tasted as if the cake had been sitting on display for months and months. I paid $28 for the cake (which served probably around 8-10 people, depending on the cake slice), which was a fair/ normal price for these types of cakes. Everyone was just being nice by saying the cake was "good," when it really wasn't. But other than the cake being extremely dry, we all really loved the packaging. This is one of the first places that had such a nice and sturdy box for the cake-- and it came with a sturdy handle! Marlene assisted me and was kind enough to give us some plates and a knife! They seem to have a much wider variety of pastries compared to 85, but after tasting the cake... it's making me a little traumatized to come back to try their pastries. After a few bites, I spat it out because it tasted off. For some reason it tasted slightly bitter and like fermented wine??? Not sure if the pudding went rancid or if the bread was poorly made, but that was a waste of $4 since I bought two. Then I moved onto the pork sung buns I bought. The bread was soooo dry and the meat was EXTREMELY salty. Last on the menu was the Berrytale. The blueberry cream cheese filling was extremely sour. I wasn't sure if this one went bad too so I threw it out as well. Overall, waste of $10. Go to Green Wheat Field in San Gabriel. They make their breads fresh every few hours. read more

We actually did not come here specifically for this bakery, however, it is a brand that I've been curious about and since we were visiting the business next door, we decided to join the line here while we waited for the other to open. From the sign on the door regarding social distancing (allowing on 3 customers inside at a time), I see why there was a line formed outside. As I got to the front of the line, I peeked inside and saw there were a lot of customers just waiting to check out. While I was next to go in, several customers walked up to the door and entered even though there was clearly a line of about a dozen people waiting patiently to get in. Management said nothing to them, SAD. When the next patron exited, I entered the store and sanitized my hands with the spray at their sanitizing table before proceeding to pick my items. From the window outside, I had already decided that I needed to try that fluffy looking bun, it was only after entering that I noticed it had a tuna filling (not my fave) but I needed to try that bun. I picked a couple of other items and headed to check out. There were 2 ahead of me and the check out process was painfully slow. I finally got to the cashier, paid and exited as quickly as possible as there were a lot of people still waiting to get in. When I got home, the first item to try was definitely that fluffy looking tuna bun! I sliced it in half and it revealed nothing special, kinda disappointed actually. It tasted OK, but definitely looked more appealing than it tasted. I gave the other buns to family members and they reported that they were tasty. With many Asian bakeries to choose from Sunmerry is a good staple for breakfast, snacks, desserts and drinks! We love stocking up here for road trips or on our way to the airport for cheap snacks on the road. The few items I like: bolo buns, almond croissants, hot dog buns, and cheese rolls. Their mochi donuts are "okay" but their drinks are actually pretty good. Sometimes they have BOGO promo for their seasonal drinks and I like to grab those as well. The green teas are my favorites. I do miss grabbing my own bread with a tong pre-pandemic days, but of course for sanitary reasons they are now already placed in a bag, however not sealed.
