While I knew this was a bakery, Sunmerry offered all sorts of drinks, and I decided to get the strawberry green tea with lychee jelly for their promotion. Both drinks were made to order and was done quickly too! The flavor was perfect and quite enjoyable! I also got some egg tarts, though they are slightly higher in price compared to other bakeries in the area. The egg tarts were fresh and flavorful though. Summery is an asian bakery that also sells yummy drinks! I ordered the Boba milk tea with puff cream and it was milky and delicious (with that extra creaminess from the puff cream)! I absolutely LOVE the boba here - their boba has the perfect amount of chewiness and is coated in brown sugar. The jasmine green tea with cheese foam is pretty good too with an interesting twist, but definitely was a bit more salty than cheese foam from other places I've tried. I also got the super garlic bread which is basically a garlic bread with some cream cheese in the middle topped with more minced garlic. A must-get if you love garlic as much as I do! Just take it home and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds or toast it in the toaster oven and it is to die for! This was my first visit to the Temple City Sunmerry bakery location. The size of the bakery isn't that big but it's a decent size. Once you first walk in it took me a while to figure out the flow of things. Everything flows counterclockwise and you're able to pick up pastries and items along the way. And that actually works really well for this location since there's a big center island where there are pastries laid out. I was there to try one of their new drinks. So I did have to wait with the customers that were looking to buy baked goods. After I placed my drink order there's a quasi waiting area and the bar drink section is on the left-hand side of the store when you first walk in. Sign up for their mailing list so you're able to get news on their newest flavors and items. Their team is always coming up with creative and fun ideas. Overall, they were fairly busy and that's a great sign. There is plenty of parking in this plaza. Don't forget there is underground parking as well. Sunmerry Bakery I feel sells bread similar to 85C Bakery. The breads are soft and pretty good. The selection can vary so if you have a favorite item you may not aleays find it. For COVID safety they do have barriers set up at payment. The store itself is fairly spacious so just keep social distancing in mind when you browse. Breads are already wrapped in bags and not out in the open. They have some new items as I write this 2/2021. Dalgona coffee has made it to their menu. It's a nice iced sweet coffee. I like this location so much more than the one in Atlantic Square. This was actually the first Sunmerry location I remember going to, and I always thought their selection was great. During Covid, I was looking for some asian breads and ended up going to the Monterey Park location a couple of times because they had longer hours. I tend to go later in the day, and that location would be almost completely wiped out! I got the email alert on Korean garlic cream cheese bread so I ordered online for pick up on a Tuesday morning in July. I went inside at 10:30am and I had to show my receipt but I had bad reception in the bakery. I had to go outside to retrieve my email and go back to show the cashier. So the cashier had to put it together and placed it in the bag. While waiting, garlicky cream cheese is not displayed at 10:30am. Still a great bakery with yummy breads. I just discovered a new bread that I like: mango dragonfruit! This bread has real pieces of fruit on the inside and looks pretty on the outside. I also really like how the coffee brioche is so light and fluffy. Only one bread was not good: the "frank roll." It was extremely oily. I've had it before and it was not like this in the past. Something also tasted different about the hot dog inside of it. They still do BOGO drinks on some days.The last one was from 5/18-5/21, so there's no BOGO as of now, but I'm sure they'll have more eventually. Just check out their website for any updates. A deal that is still ongoing right now is "buy 5 breads get 1 free." Unfortunately they have downgraded from 5 stars to 4 stars. I literally came here twice in the same week and ordered the tropical fruit oolong tea both times. It was perfect the first time, with the right amount of sweetness, pieces of grapefruit and lychee jelly. The second time, it was too sweet and had less toppings. Due to COVID-19, 3 parties are allowed in the store at each time. We're supposed to stand 6 feet apart in line, but once we are in the store, it does not matter. Another party can be an inch away from you as you get your breads. Instead of getting a tray of breads, the breads are now pre-packaged. We get a box/bag and put the breads directly in there. I am glad I ordered the hot cafe mocha less sweet because inadvertently I didn't get a savory pastry. The mochi donuts are so soft and chewy. Way better than that donut shop in Pasadena. I liked the Oreo mochi donut more than the macha green tea because the latter was too sweet. I really shouldn't but each and every pastry in the box I bought is calling to me. Sunmerry has really upgraded packaging compared to other bakeries, but the baked goods quality is not consistently high enough for me to return as a regular. Packaging has been very smart - for cake slices, they'll give it to you in a container that folds up into handles. Longer cakes in the center open fridge come with ropes that allow you to simply carry out. They've also stopped giving out plastic bags and only use paper for regular purchases. This stood out to me as one of the better organized packaging I've seen. Breads vary in quality and taste. I enjoyed the green tea croissant for its subtle green tea taste and structure, but the green onion bread I thought tasted old (in freshness and in bread style). Been coming to Sunmerry ever since they opened up. Although it is a bakery, I usually only come here for the drinks. My go-to is the salted-cheese coffee if I'm coming in the morning. I would say that I like it most days, but it can be inconsistent in taste. There is a certain thickness that the salted-cheese needs to be in order for the overall drink to taste good since you don't use a straw to drink, but rather sip it at a certain angle so that you drink the coffee while getting a taste of the salted-cheese to give a salty/sweet taste to the coffee. There are times that the salted-cheese is too thick and when you try to sip on the drink, you either only get coffee (which is usually just like drinking plain black coffee) or only salted-cheese foam. I have been alternating between getting it hot or cold, and it seems to ring true for either temperature drink. However, when it is made correctly, the overall drink taste fantastic. I'll often add on an extra hot dog bun as well, but unfortunately, they only have a frank roll which is a long hot dog bread topped with cheese, honey mustard, and parsley compared to the classic round hot dog bun they have at most other Asian bakeries. If I'm coming after 10AM where the rest of the drink menu opens up, I usually will order either the Salted Cheese with Jasmine Green Tea or my favorite, the Grapefruit Jasmine Green Tea. I have the same feelings regarding the consistency of the salted cheese, but I feel that the grapefruit green tea has been pretty spot on every time I've come. I do feel that they put a lot of ice in their drinks, so I'd recommend to request less ice. PARKING: located in the Camilla Plaza. Can get very crowded since there are a ton of restaurants here. Would recommend just going to the underground structure during any mealtime rush periods. When I first walked in here I thought I was at 85C Bakery. Some of the items are exactly the same, such as the brioche bread and blueberry cream cheese pastry. Even the paper cups for the baked good are the same ones used by 85C. It's the same "self-serve" style where you grab a tray and load it with items you want. As far as taste and quality, I think this place does a better job, although that's not saying much since I never thought 85 was all that great. According to the website this place was originally founded in Japan in the 1960s and introduced to Taiwan in 1986. It's a Taiwanese bakery but uses Japanese baking technique. All items are made fresh daily. It has also partnered with Happy Lemon, which is known for making salted cheese tea drinks, so you can get baked goods and drinks in one place. I tried, Ube, Black Sesame Mochi, Green Tea Croissant, Mochi Taro, and one of the strawberry tea drinks with salted cheese. I liked all the baked goods I got, especially the Mochi Taro. It had subtle taro flavor, and was nice and chewy. My least favorite was the Green Tea Croissant. It just didn't have much flavor. None of the items were overly sweet, which I liked. The strawberry drink I got was good, but I don't think it would've been that good without the salted cheese. By the way, this place has an instruction on proper way of drinking salted cheese beverages. I've been doing it wrong all these years. You are not suppose to shake nor use a straw. You are suppose to sip at a 45 degree angle to taste each layer separately. If this place was located closer to me I would visit more often.
