When I walked in Ana immediately took my bike back and did a safety check ($35) My other option was a bike tune up ($115) but that required more time. I was glad to hear that my bike was in pretty good shape and just required a few adjustments. The shop also has accessories for sale as well as bicycles. DO NOT TRUST THE GOOD REVIEWS. EXTREMELY MEAN AND AGGRESIVE. As a young woman passionate about cycling, I was excited to support Sunny Cycles, a shop proudly branded as woman-owned. I expected better than what I got: malpractice and abuse. I brought two bikes in for repair. One had a suspected front wheel issue I flagged as uncertain. The shop quoted one bike, never quoted or explained work on the other, then went unreachable and closed during posted hours (including a day I was told they'd be open). My bikes sat there for 7 days. I was charged $230, including unexplained work on the second bike. I paid without argument. Immediately after leaving, I found that bike's actual problem was still unfixed. When I brought it back, the owner looked at it for ten seconds and admitted it was the back wheel, not the front. When I asked why she hadn't caught this in seven days, she said it wasn't her job to look beyond what I'd pointed to, and offered to fix it for an extra fee. When I calmly pushed back on that logic, she told me I had "an attitude" and to leave her store. I responded that relying on her expertise wasn't an attitude. She then screamed at me, hurled a sexist slur and repeated profanity at me, and demanded I get out of her store. She grabbed a bike rack to physically block the entrance and shoo me out, and kicked dirt and twigs at me and my sweet mother standing outside, as she slammed the door, locking another customer inside the store with her in the process. This isn't a bad day, it's a pattern. Check the other reviews, including her own replies calling customers "entitled liars." Take your bike anywhere else on the Westside, anyone else will have the sense to appreciate your business and treat you with respect. read more

I visited Sunny's Cycles to purchase inter tubes for two bicycles. The owner, Anna Marie, was knowledgeable and helpful. I decided to return with one of the bicycles for a much-needed tune-up. The repairs were exceptional. I was so pleased with the repairs that I later returned with the second bicycle for a similar tune-up. I bike about 5 miles each way to work a few times per week, and I've found it's strangely hard to find a good bike repair shop. So far, I've used four local ones, and this is by far the best. Great service and work and good prices. If you somehow find someplace cheaper--skip it because you'll ultimately end up paying more in the end. What a disappointment this place is. To start let me just say that I understand everyone is having a tough time but that's no excuse. This place was so rude to me. I did everything by their rules and left my bike to be adjusted for 24 hours even after they I Hillatold me it would only take an hour or so with an appointment. I called and texted to confirm it was ready and they did not respond when I came to get my bike that was not done 24 hours later Courtney was so rude that it left me almost crying. I was looking for a Phil Wood bottom bracket for my new bike. I could have ordered it online, but I heard good things about LAB and decided to see if they could source the part for me. I called the store and was immediately assisted by Anna. Although the specific size bottom bracket I needed was not in stock, Anna said she could order it for me from a nearby warehouse. Woman-owner why not. But, her communication is HORRENDOUS. We dropped off bike parts earlier in August, and we were told it would be a one week turnaround. Perfect! One week rolls around, nothing. We hear back from her a couple days past a week and she says it will be done in a few days. Nothing. We go to her bike shop because we are tired of not hearing from her, it's closed. During times that say that she would be open. I understand these are COVID times, but that's really not an an excuse when literally every other business has adapted and put up their new hours. Another week goes by. Nothing. After countless calls and texts she finally responds and seems really confused which bike parts were ours? She had no organization or a way to tell which parts were even ours. Said they were "being worked on." Another week rolls around and she finally says that the bike is complete. Now, mind you these were pretty nice bike wheels that will go on a rather nice bike so when we finally were picking it up she noted this saying that these bike wheels are nice and she would be happy to build the complete bike for us! To which we replied "f*** no!" Why would we want this woman anywhere near our bike when she had it nearly three weeks? With zero communication?! It's hardly a business and more of a scam. And the way she comments back on these Yelp reviews? Calling people "brats" that's honestly more notable than her service. Poor character. Terrible work ethic. Don't come here lol. It's truly painful for me to write this review. As a Venice resident, I try to support locally-owned businesses at all costs, esp female-run businesses. But my customer service experience here was absolutely atrocious, and the store-owner, Anna, is one of the worst people I've ever encountered. I was in a tight bind and needed a new bike after mine was stolen, as it's my primary form of transportation. I put in an order on Sunday Oct 20, and Anna said the parts should arrive within 48 hours. I didn't hear anything from her by Tuesday, so I had to call and find out there was an extra part that wasn't in stock, and that the bike would be ready by the weekend (no biggie, things happen, I get it). But then, three more days passed, and when the weekend rolled around, I'd still heard nothing, so called, and she said the place that was shipping the parts was closed due to road closures in certain parts of the city, and my bike would be ready by mid-week (Oct 30). I requested that I could use a placeholder bike due to the extended delay, and she allowed me to come by and get one (this is the least she could do after a week+ delay of my order). Mid-week came and went, so I call again, and she says the bike would be ready by the weekend. This has now been TWO WEEKS, since I made my initial order, and Anna has not called me ONCE for a status update, I have had to constantly call to see what has been going on. She literally ignored my calls, because after not picking up twice, I used a friend's phone, and wouldn't you know, she picked up! Here's the best part -- when I finally was able to pick up the bike, I calmly expressed to her that I wasn't satisfied with my customer service experience, and would have liked to have received status updates for the numerous delays. She IMMEDIATELY went on the defensive, trying to proclaim she DID call me to give me status updates (I have the call records, she has not called me once unless it was to return a call I made trying to see whats up). She yelled at me to "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY STORE!" and said that I clearly have mental and anger problems, so at that point I popped off and told her what I really think - that she's an absolute bitch and has NO business running a local store. As I left she kept yelling "BYE BITCH!" over and over again like a damn high schooler...seriously?? She is a PIECE OF WORK. I've spent $400+ at this place and wish I could take it all back. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM LA BRAKELESS. She has no business staying in operation, and I truly hope she goes under for the sake of the local biking community. It's also very revealing of her character to read her responses on these other bad yelp reviews, zero accountability. Can't wait to see how she responds to this one. This place is an absolute joke and should not be in business. Don't take your bike here. I write this knowing full well they still have my bike in their possession, because a routine tune up (what was promised to be a 2-3 job) lasted 8 days. This past Saturday, I finally got the call after 8 days that the tune up was complete. Mind you, I had checked in every day the previous week to inquire what was taking so long. I would either be sent to voicemail (which is full and non-operational) or told they were super busy and would get back to me as soon as the job was done. I finally got that call on Saturday, when I'd already left town for Mother's Day weekend. Now I'm back in town, it's Monday, 6:45pm. I stopped by to pick the bike up at 630pm, as the store is advertised to be open til 7pm on Mondays. As of this time are closed with bars over the windows, no one is answering the phone, and the voicemail is still full. Simply put they should not be in business. I live across the street and will do my best to stop people from walking inside this business. Forget yelp, I'm considering fliers in front of Mitsuwa and MV Take Away. Hacks. You're not busy, you're just lazy. Never seen another human being in your store. I'll be back at 1pm during my lunch break for the bike tomorrow, because god knows I don't trust you'll be open til 5pm as advertised. Worst TUESDAY 5/14 EDIT / RESPONSE Thanks for the reply Anna, I notice that you're now magically closed today after responding to my review. I bet that's tough, seeing that you're running a "24 hr, 7 days a week, weekends, holidays, working-through-vacation-when-manage-take-one, up at night worrying, all the time, in your bones -type of job." Closing unexpectedly on a Tuesday must be rough for a person with your level of commitment! I'm so sorry for this turn of events! I appreciate your sentiment on small businesses and the difficulties running them. It's why I brought you my bike. Oh, and it's why I overpaid you for a routine tune up that takes a maximum of two hours, and was okay with giving you 3-4 days to complete the work. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't money in exchange for service the definition of supporting your business? On the flip side, isn't inefficiency and negligence, a bad way to do business - small or large? You say I dropped my bike off "Friday evening, right before close." It was 4:15pm, Anna. You closed at least 40 minutes earlier than advertised yesterday, and are now closed today. You are not sacrificing everything for the love of the game as you stated. I paid you, I want my bike. Based on your response, I wouldn't be surprised if you've already taken a sledgehammer to it, but I want it back anyway. I paid you. What you're doing is probabaly illegal, and really sus. I have been a customer of LAB since 2012. Honestly, the thing I love most about this bike shop is that it is woman owned and operated. Anna is incredibly talented when it comes to bikes and she is a no bullshit woman so when I make crazy requests, she is honest and open about what my expectations should be. I went in on a Sunday evening just before closing to hammer out some details for a few upgrades for my Bianchi Pista. Anna let me sit down and look through all options and guided me to what she thought would aesthetically, financially and physically please me. I selected a beautiful Gilles Berthoud saddle in dark brown. Anna then helped me to color match and find a faux-leather grip tape (for quarter of the price of real leather) and matching straps for my cages. This took time and effort on her part and I am grateful. She let me know that she would need to order my tires and saddle and gave me her best guess of when it could be picked up. She sent me text updates and when some pieces couldn't be ordered she called to give me other options. All in all it took less than 2 weeks to get all parts and labor completed. Communication was top notch, excellent customer service and my bike looks so sick! The owner is literally running this shop on her own so every bike that's dropped off, she is doing all the work. Lots of love and effort goes in to each bike and my Pista and I are incredibly happy with that TLC!!! As an avid cyclist and a woman, I have had my fair share of uncomfortable interactions with men in bike shops. I have often been made to feel less than because although I am an avid cyclist, I have yet to learn how to fix my own tires. I have often been dismissed, rushed out the door, or hit on, rather than helped with what I have entered bike shops for. Having another female there is always comforting and when reading some other reviews, it makes me sad to see that the owner gets a bad rep for being a woman with something to say. It makes me wonder if the owner were a man that behaved the same way as the female owner, would y'all have anything bad to say or would it be acceptable? All the dudes that have worked there over the years have had the same "no bullshit" attitude yet no bad reviews about the men. I digress. One other key factor is that LAB is all about community! They host community events all year round that celebrate cycling, the arts, and family. If you haven't checked out any of their events, I highly recommend it.
