Had to try this new spot! Would give it a solid 3 out of 5. If you're really into Asian fusion I would def recommend to try it out, unfortunately my hubby and I both quickly picked typical brunch menu items and just wasn't super impressed! I think if we potentially stuck with the unique menu items with a flair of actual Asian fusion maybe we'd be more hyped. Service was great! Everyone was nice and attentive. There wasn't a long wait for us to take our order or receive our drinks and food. We got there around 8:45, and glad we did because we noticed only 1 table available. Then a rush showed up around 9. What we ordered: 2 coffees & waters, crispy Benedict, waffle & chicken complete meal.Don't be fooled by the "Sriracha hollandaise" description, it was literally like a dot on top. I was expecting more of a kick or for it to be combined. I think this place would be great to try for anyone who wants something new. But it's unfortunately not making it on my Fave brunch spots lists.
We came here after going to the farmer's market. They were pretty busy but luckily we were able to get patio seating quickly since we came with our dog. The staff was very kind and moved the umbrellas to keep us in the shade and they also immediately brought over a bowl of ice water for the pup. The unagi omurice was creamy with a nicely whipped egg and the unagi gave it a very savory umami flavor. The husband's Hilo Moco was also good, though a little salty. The bacon side and coffee were solid too. It is a bit pricey, but understandable for Midtown. We'll be back again though to explore more of the menu since we love that they are dog friendly and service was top notch!
Had the chance to try this spot on 19th street! I had really high expectations as the photos of the food looked great! We came during a weekday so it wasn't as busy, we came between breakfast and lunch before the lunch rush came! My advice, come around 10, u beat the breakfast rush and avoid lunch rush! Parking can be annoying as it's all street parking. Inside decor is cool as the place is modern with an open kitchen and high ceilings! Service was good, workers were friendly and professional! Angela helped us twice now, and she is awesome! She works hard as she's the only one taking orders and she hustles! Respect to Angela! For the food, we ordered the loco moco, with garlic fried rice and a delicious egg that surrounds the garlic fried rice! They used a wagu beef patty and it was a little over cooked but still had great flavor! The Garlic fried rice was delicious as well as the scrambled egg! Great combo! Definitely a must try! The unagi version is extremely popular and my pops loved it! The poutine was decent but not what I expected, good crispy tator tots, house sauce and a Fried egg! I was expecting gravy and those cheese curds but no thick gravy or cheese curds.... French toast was decent, expected it to be a little more soft or fluffier but it was a little more on the dryer side, good flavor but on the drier side! Lemon ricotta pancakes were probably the best ones I've tried! Fluffy, airy, lemon flavor was on point! Must try! The wealthy pig Benedict was great! Nice pieces of bacon, Avocado, and tomato with a house sauce and a poached egg! Excellent poached egg and it was over a sourdough break instead of English muffin! Also this spot has awesome coffee! The barista is awesome! One dude making all the drinks! He made my latte excellent twice now!! Overall, very happy with this spot! A must try!
Swung by with a few friends for a Saturday brunch. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they seated and served us, and we were lucky enough to get a table right next to the window. It's a great place for people watching! I got a mimosa and a tater tot poutine dish. Wow wow wow! They were both super delicious and I felt that the price was more than fair for what I received. Absolutely will be back.
Fantastic! What a great meal at sunny side. I love the Asian fusion idea, all of the options were freakin delicious and I can't wait to come back to try more. The lemon ricotta pancakes were absolutely perfect, crispy on the sides and fluffy in the middle with the right amount of lemon flavor. Also the service was incredible. We were helped by at least 3 different servers and all the food came out hot and fast. New favorite brunch spot. Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 4.5 Value: 4.2 Marcels foodie score: 4.7
I heard of this place via TikTok and thought it would be overhyped and was hesitant to try it, especially after hearing about the long wait times. We came on a Saturday morning at 10am and waited about 30 minutes. Not terrible at all for a weekend. We ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes with a side of crispy Yukon potatoes and the unagi omurice. Everything was so delicious! The pancakes were just sweet enough and seemed like they were made of a mochi batter. They were somehow both light and crispy. The ginger rice was really good in the unagi omurice. They took our order really quickly and the food came out fast too. They seem to have a good system down to minimize the wait. I definitely will be back.
I love that asian brunches are becoming so popular - and for good reason! We split a little of everything, from the different mimosas to the tornado omurice and chicken and waffles. Everything was excellent and worth the wait, and the staff were very responsive and helpful.
Second time here: - KP Wings are good (actually my favorite are the rice cakes in the dish... crispy style... nice). The wings looked kinda dark, but the soy garlic flavor was good. I prefer wings from other places, but still very good. - Poutine Potatoes: crispy tater tots with bacon, gravy, fried egg, and furakake toppings. Very nice. We got the gravy in the side (dipping them keeps them crispy) - Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: wonderfully crispy edges and light citrus flavor. Excellent if you are in the mood! - Chapaguri: okay, I watched a YouTube video of some expert chef make a dish using two ramen packaged products make a similar dish: mix the Korean chapaghetti with you favorite ramen and add toppings as desired. Well, this is that dish done right! (Tried it myself... not as good as Sunny Side's). Worth a try!
As soon as I saw there was an Asian fusion brunch spot I knew I had to try. This place did not disappoints and was pretty packed when I came in mid day on a weekday. The menu was so hard to choose from with many cool options. Asked the server and decided on the unagi tornado omurice and omg first off the colors and presentation was amazing. Unagi is tender, the sauce is super sweet but evens out with the tender fluffy egg and ginger rice. Meal will leave you happy and full.
Came to Sunny Side Breakfast after checking out a small art fair and left very satisfied! We shared the Unagi Tornado Omurice and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and it was the perfect amount for two! Starting with the omurice, we really liked the layers of flavor with the sweet and savory rice, creamy egg, and tender sweet eel. The eel portion was also quite generous and there was enough to have some with every bite. As for the pancakes, they had that envious fluffy and chewy texture that you just can't recreate at home. The lemon flavor was also bright and zingy and paired well with the fresh summer fruits on the plate. All in all, great find in midtown. Pair it with the Midtown farmers market and you'll have a perfect Saturday morning in my opinion!
I walked in on Saturday morning around 10:30am, and luckily there was a table available! The restaurant is bigger in person than it looks online. Servers were very attentive. All the food we ordered was delicious! They were perfect portions for brunch. There is no parking nearby so do plan for that ahead. Note- bottomless mimosas are timed and moderated for one hour.. and they are on that!
I totally get the hype now. We went on a Friday afternoon and it was packed, so I was expecting a bit of a wait. The iPad estimated 26 minutes, but we were seated in less than 10. Huge win when you're dining with a kid! The staff was friendly, attentive, and everything felt organized despite how busy it was. I also loved being able to see into the open kitchen. The whole restaurant feels bright, welcoming, and has a fun modern vibe. Our favorite dish was probably the Tornado Unagi. The flavors were amazing and the ginger fried rice was such a unique touch. The Hilo Moco was also delicious with a thick wagyu patty and rich mushroom gravy. My son loved the lemon ricotta pancakes, especially the cute bear face and fresh fruit. And the coconut latte? So good. I'd honestly stop in just for that. We also tried the chicken apple patties and they were way more flavorful than I expected. I'm going to try and make them at home lol We'll definitely be back. One of those places where every dish made us want to come back and try more of the menu.
Breakfast fusion? Yes please. I ordered the bacon, avocado & tomato benedict and it delivered -- really solid flavors, the kind of breakfast that makes you wish you hadn't made afternoon plans. The latte was great too, which honestly completes the whole experience. Service was friendly and efficient without being rushed, which is exactly the energy you want at a breakfast spot. Would definitely come back next time I'm in Sacramento.

Just tried this spot and was excited for the fusion of Asian flavors. They opened two months ago, so be prepared for a long wait. I think we waited 45 minutes or so. I ended up getting the yuzu eggs benedict because I'm a sucker for anything yuzu flavored. I will head back this weekend to try the lemon ricotta pancakes because I was so torn. The service was great despite how busy it was, we didn't wait long once we were seated. read more
I had a wonderful experience! A friend and I came here on a Sunday morning at around 9 am and there was plenty of seating. Staff was friendly, attentive and kept refilling our water until we were ready to order. I ordered the unagi tornado omurice and I thought it provided great value and plenty of flavor. It's such a unique dish, so I had to order it. The unagi was of a generous size, and I loved that the egg was soft and wrapped up the rice. The rice was seasoned well! There was also a teriyaki sort of sauce on the outside, and it was enough flavor. It comes with a bit of pickled ginger, and i wish there was a bit more veggies for this dish. I think this dish could be split so that you can try other dishes, because at some point, I felt like I was almost getting a bit bored and wanted something else! I would totally order this dish again, though. read more

I almost didn't want to write this review because selfishlessly, I want this spot to be a secret. The interior of this spot is bright and airy, with a decent amount of seating, although it does get busy in here. Service was a bit on the slower side, but for the quality of food and drinks you get, it is certainly worth the wait. This restaurant made picking my meal so difficult. Everything sounds and looks so delicious, it's so exciting to see some Asian fusion at this brunch spot. My table got the BLT on gf bread, the Blackstone omlette, fried marscarpone, and chicken and waffles. Every single dish was presented beautifully, and tasted even better. This is a restaurant where I legitimately want to try every single menu item. I am blown away by how enjoyable this meal was and have every intention of going back. While I want this place to stay a secret (expect a wait if you go during peak eating hours), they deserve so much recognition for the incredible food the put out. 10/10 recommend read more
Finally a brunch fusion place in Sac that's pretty on par w those in SF! Got the popular unagi omurice and it was verrrry flavorful (maybe a bit too salty for me) and very filling. Unagi was a nice portion. There was enough sauce for the rice. Wish there was more egg though. My favorite was the crunchy mascarpone. HUGE portion! There's an option to make it into a combo but don't bother cuz it's so big (and an extra $10...). At that point order something else to try. Loved the addition of fruits and cornflakes surrounding the plate-- provided great texture and additional flavor. The toast was a tad overdone (one of the edges was lowkey burnt but we cut it off) but no bother. Crispy Benedict was ok not too bad, nothing special. We ordered this based on waitress recommendation. Probably would try something different next time! Wait was not bad around 11am but line was already forming. Would def come here again! read more

I love brunch so I was excited when a new brunch spot opened up in midtown. I was hoping for a new brunch spot to venture frequently but I can't say I'll be coming back. The restaurant is in midtown and there is street parking only. Found parking pretty easily. I put my name on the waitlist on Yelp and we were told there would be 30 minute wait and that was the estimate but we were seated after about 45 minutes or so. Which I was expecting, so that wasn't an issue. Now getting to get service. I came to check in for our table and was not even acknowledged until 5 minutes of just standing there. A line had begun inside at this point for others trying to check in as well. We had multiple servers pass by but no one stopped to acknowledge us when they first saw us. Our server was friendly but was new and couldn't answer a lot of questions about the menu or what was included with an item. I totally understand being new but you should have at least a general idea of the menu or be shadowing someone to help train you. We ordered our food and after 25 minutes the Hilo Milo came out but we asked for the sauce on the side and the sauce was included in the dish. So they took the dish back and had to remake it. This is when the entire experience started to go poorly. From there, we waited another 45 minutes to get our food. In total with the wrong plate given at first we were waiting for our food for over an hour, which is pretty unprofessional for a restaurant. I understand being busy, but for what we ordered it shouldn't have taken that long. We had arrived got seated at 1:45 and didn't get our food until 2:55pm. We were saying if the food doesn't get there by 3 we were just gonna leave but they brought the food out right before the clock struck 3, and they close at 2:30. In regard to the food, it was okay. The lemon ricotta pancakes were fluffy, but they didn't taste much like lemon but the presentation was nice. They were okay at best. I got the blackstone omelette and the winner of the entire meal were the crispy potatoes that come as a side. Those were really good. The omelette was okay but honestly really small portion for the price you pay. I waited an hour for such a small omelette, I was extremely underwhelmed. The taste was okay as well, nothing out of the ordinary. Lastly, the Hilo Moco wasn't very flavorful. It was also just okay. The waiter apologized and said he could comp us some drinks but we asked if we could get at least a dish comped off our bill. The manager came back and gave us 10% of the bill which was only $5. So also, disappointing because the least they could have done was comped the pancakes for waiting an hour or so for the food to come out. Hopefully you have a better experience if you do try this place out but not somewhere I'd recommend. There's better brunch spots in sac. read more

update: we had a wonderful meal last time and wanted to try another entree this time. so what did we order? 1) lemon ricotta pancake combo. the star of this dish are the pancakes. not dense, but light and tasty. no need for additional butter or adding syrup. this dish is fine just as it arrived on our table. The 3 pieces of bacon were crispy and decent. the scrambled eggs didn't have that custardly texture. they were good and fluffy but not what we expected. we asked our wait staff and said we had to request the eggs prepared differently- good to know. 2) Hilo moco: it was ok but the unagi loco moco is much much much better. their hilo moco is reminiscent of a traditional loco moco. the difference though is the beef patty. they use a wagyu beef patty but it was over cooked which made the texture tough and not appetizing and the fried egg was also over cooked. the mushroom medley sauce had too many onions which overpowered the flavor of mushrooms. i would probably not order this dish again. would i return? yes but make sure to remind the wait staff what your expectations are. read more

This place was worth the 45min wait! All of the servers and employees were kind and helpful, and the vide of the place was nice. Most importantly, the food was amazing! We got a small bite of tater tots with house gravy (Sunrise Poutine) to share and it was great. I personally got the breakfast steak, medium rare. Steak was good, more simple than I expected, and potatoes it came with were super good! Crunchy outside and soft on the inside. My husband got chicken and waffles and moved the combination with their Korean inspired syrup. All and all would recommend! read more
I've been in twice since this restaurant opened in my neighborhood. Both times my food was delicious and the service was friendly. Cooking times can be a little long, so I wouldn't come in if you're in a rush. The food is definitely worth the wait! read more

Food--quality breakfast fare with delightful Asian fusion twists. I had the Wagyu Moco and my partner had the Yuzu Benedict. My Moco had great proportions-the rice was perfectly cooked and the sauce had quality ingredients. The coconut chai latte was similarly delicious. I went today with my friend and got there at 10am. It was our first time trying this place. The restaurant was full and there was a wait. There were 5 parties in front of us but we got seated within 10-15 min. The ambiance is a brick building inside with wooden accents and wooden tables but not much decorations and is an industrial vibe. Me and my friend both ordered the unagi tornado omurice and for drinks matcha latte for me and a latte for her. The drinks came out first. The matcha latte was good but not very creamy. The food arrived fairly quickly. For the omurice, my friend and I agreed that the sauce was a little bit too sweet for our liking. The rice inside the omelette was saturated with a sauce which I didn't like too much. The egg was very fluffy and silky though and the eel was good. I felt it wasn't very flavorful and just mainly the sauce giving it the flavor but pretty good. I never had omurice before. The ginger slices helped to cut the sweetness. I have to give props to the presentation of the food though it was beautiful! Overall, I wouldn't wait a long time for this place but I might be back to try their sweet breakfast items such as their lemon ricotta pancakes and the crunchy mascarpone because I saw other people eating it and it looked good! This place is also different from your usual American brunch place due to the Asian twist so if you're looking for something different try it out! read more

Probably the best brunch I had in a while, the flavors are amazing, each bit was like a flavor pop, the Hilo moco was definitely worth trying, the unagi omurice was fantastic, a bit on the sweet side tho bc of the the unagi sauce but still good. Awesome location with friendly staff. Wait times can be less than desired, but a lot of that can be attributed to people being able to reserve tables through Yelp. The ambiance is warm and inviting but the decor/style are near identical to every other pop up brunch spot. Staff are exceptionally polite and attentive. They were quick to greet us and I noticed immediately how great the host was. It's always rewarding to be treated politely and warmly by staff. It makes customers more comfortable and confident in staff. A+ for this The food was excellent! I had the unagi tornado omurice and my SO got the wealthy pig benedict. The wealthy pig was not as good, primarily because of a tart/tanginess on the hollandaise sauce. I believe this is because some of the yuzu hollandaise may have been mixed in. Either way, it was great but it would have been better without that tanginess. We will be returning. read more

Came here with some of my friends for brunch yesterday. We walked in, put our name on the waitlist, walked around the farmers market for a bit, and shortly later our table was ready. Service was good, very friendly, and pretty quick! Our food came out quicker than our coffee orders. I tried ordering the crunchy mascarpone french toast, but they were out... so instead I went with the country waffle with eggs and pork wine ground sausage on the side since my friends were getting the lemon ricotta pancakes and the unagi tornado omelette. My waffle was good, nothing crazy about it since it was just a waffle. It was very moist and fluffy! The eggs and the sausage were good! My friend's lemon ricotta pancakes were really good! And I did really like the unagi tornado omelette too! I'd definitely come here again so I can finally try the mascarpone french toast and see if I can update my review to 5 stars instead of 4. read more
Tried this place for the first time after seeing videos of it on instagram and it did not disappoint! The menu provided a good amount of variety from the typical breakfast/brunch spot and was super tasty. Good coffee too, and very friendly staff. Will be back to try more items on the menu! read more

Where are we going to this Sunday morning. Join us while we take you to breakfast with us. Arrived at this place called Sunnyside Breakfast. It is a Breakfast and Asian Fusion that has been open for only 3 months. Restaurant started to get packed about 10am and when we left it was a wait for tables. 1221 19th Street * Sacramento, Ca M-F 8am to 2:30pm * Sat-Sun 8am to 3pm The atmosphere is very old brick building updated architecture making it look very modernized with hints anticipating the food will be good. We ordered: Blackstone omelette-a little overcooked (but that's how I like them). Ciabatta bread (instead of regular white toast or sourdough...that's a winner for him). Nicely presented and great tasting. KP Wings-it was amazing. It tasted even better than the other well known place that starts either a "B". I tried the potatoes and they were so good! Side of potatoes-I had to order a side of this. Otherwise I would have eaten up all of his. The potatoes are so good, crispy and it's not something I think they remake these as I waited a bit for those to arrive. Soda is not a fountain drink they are cans. I really, really want to give this place a higher rating but I just can't. The good: the food tasted amazing and was well seasoned. The unagi is just as good as all the other ratings. Would heavily recommend that meal if you do decide to go. The bad: - there were flies inside the restaurant flying everywhere and we had to constantly try and wave them away from the food, reminder that this is inside and not an outdoor situation - we had to flag down the server (a larger Latina woman) multiple times as she didn't bring us water, or silverware and disappeared frequently to chat with the kitchen staff, we were the only two in the restaurant so it wasn't like it was busy. A very nice Asian woman who was working the coffee machine kept having to come over and take care of us because of this issue. - our server did not check in at any point in the meal with us - we found a fly in the coffee drink and it was remade for us but tbh that alone is the biggest reason we won't come back cause that's just gross and highlights yet again their bug problem - it took a very long time to receive our order, over 45 minutes, when we were the only people in the restaurant - we saw our food just sitting at the window to be sent out to us for awhile and again no server to be found, food was already starting to get cold by the time we received it. - salmon Benedict was quite fishy with little to no yuzu flavor (yes I understand it's fish but salmon, even cured salmon isn't known for that intense issue) as in the fish itself just didn't have a cured salmon flavor, it tasted fishy and was quite overpowering in a negative way. I was so excited to come here after all the videos I'd seen and with the fusion food being the main focus but we will not be back. The concern over hygiene and terrible service made the experience super negative for us. We will not be recommending it to anyone but do hope they improve. read more
The crunchy mascarpone hot cake was delicious!! The staff were nice and substituted the unagi for the wagyu patty per request, the tornado omurice was really good, the rice was mixed in an unagi style sauce as opposed to a tomato/ketchup based sauce, but still really good! The restaurant wasn't busy when we walked in but as we were eating they had a line out the door. But the food came out pretty quick, three staff members were trying to take all the tables together, so if you needed something you would have to flag someone down but they did come by with coffee and water frequently. Super cute place, and the food was really good! Chicken and waffles had a weird syrup though, like gochujang mixed with a lil fish sauce? I would prefer a sweet maple syrup with it. I took leftovers home and poured maple syrup on it and it was amazing. I like the chicken karaage with the waffles and the sweet fruit that was garnished with it. The tornado unagi rice and egg was perfect. The eel with egg, gravy, and the fried rice inside was splendid. Hot matcha is latte art. Will come back to eat again. read more

Pleasant experience and good food! Lemon Ricotta pancakes are a standout. Fresh fruit garnish was flavorful and nicely enhanced lemon flavor. Food was served hot but cooled quickly. Would have appreciated heated plates so food wouldn't cool so fast. Also, syrup was served cold. The syrup pot was in clear view so I told server, the syrup was cold and suggested the syrup pot may not be turned on... She appreciated the suggestion and went over and checked it but she didn't return or offer hot syrup. I wish she had. Clearly they intend on serving it hot because it's in a heated dispenser. Staff was friendly. Service was mixed. I wasn't offered a refill on my decaf until I was done eating. I would have appreciated it much sooner. Server offered me a fresh cup to go and I accepted. Food being served to other patrons looked excellent as well and had particularly enticing presentation. I'll definitely return again. The menu is worth exploring. read more

On a cold Saturday morning at 9:30 AM, they already have a line. I guess that's typical of a downtown brunch restaurant, even with almost 20 tables. Their open kitchen gives patrons a small view into the organized chaos. The wait staff are nice, polite, and very accommodating. The decor is minimal with exposed brick and cages hanging light fixtures. There is a gentle hum of customers chatting and enjoying food, and while the tables are quite close together, no one is being particularly loud. The food was very good! The Unagi Tornado Omurice was the star of the show. Also a very unique item at a brunch place, even for Asian-owned place. The rice was lightly flavored with ginger and there was more sushi ginger on the side. The unagi was delicious and the rice and egg were cooked perfectly. When it came out, it was the perfect cozy bite. We also ordered the Chickfle Bites ($12) which was a much more cost effective choice to the other chicken and waffle offerings. I wish we had something like this in Northern Virginia. I came here with my husband and friend, both who were running a marathon two days after. Our goal was to carb up as much as possible. We ordered the unagi rice, loco moco, chappagurri, french toast, and some tots. Everything was seasoned soooo well and tasted great. I would definitely come here again.
