5 stars for what it is- a diner. They've done an incredible job in the remodel. Lots of thought put into the set up. There is a bar with outlets below the counter. The service was very friendly, although a tad slow on taking orders. In fairness, it was a random Tuesday and we were not in a rush. They have a nice selection of food for both breakfast and lunch. It was bright, clean and welcoming inside with TVs towards the backside of the restaurant. Our food was great, the breakfast potatoes and burrito were perfect. Hubs pancakes were a hit. I live in Seal Beach and I have always driven by Sunny Side Cafe. Yesterday, my curiosity got the best of me so I finally walked in this restaurant. Hampton Suites is a five minute walk from this place so I'm assuming their customers base are mostly visitors staying at Hampton's or from Boeing. They have ample parking and it is very clean around here in Seal Beach. I was greeted by a cheerful receptionist. It was 11:45 am when I walked in this restaurant. Their menu is simple. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have after hour snacks menu like oats. Waitress came over after 8 minutes. They were quite busy yesterday. I ordered their chilaquiles. It looked like an appetizer but It was ok. The tuna melt was good but the size was a bit small according to my companion. However, when the order came, it took 20 minutes for us to get a refill of our drinks and it's probably because they were a bit busy. Nonetheless, the meal was ok and staff seemed to be friendly and personable. I gave this establishment a 3.5 ratings. Their location was convenient. read more

This place was wonderful! My friend and I tried multiple breakfast items even though it was early afternoon. The chilaquiles were exceptionally delicious. The green chile sauce tasted authentic. Flavorful without being too spicy. It paired nicely with the loaded hash. Crispy potatoes topped with pico, cheese, bacon and more. Divine! We also had tried blueberry pancakes. The whipped butter and warm syrup perfectly complimented the buttery edges of the pancakes and blueberry magic. Joanne was our server and she kept the hot coffee coming with a smile. Great cafe we went to yesterday! It's used to be a Denny's. Now it is Sunny Side Cafe. Cute name I think. The host and our server were sweet! When we arrived the host greeted us and took us to our table. We sat on the other side of the cafe where there were bigger tables and booths. My son, who is on the spectrum, wanted to sit without me by his side. This was the first time he did that. Lol but he handled it quite well. The host placed his menu and crayons and front of him. Then my husband and I sat directly across. We told our server we'll order his chicken strips with fries and brown butter chocolate chip cookie. She asked us if we wanted to start with the cookie first. My husband and I immediately said yes like she read our mind hehe! Then I ordered a chilaquiles verdes and my husband ordered a chorizo omelette with wheat toast. Drinks, one chocolate milk and two black coffee. Our coffee were topped off every time to keep it nice and hot/warm. My chilaquiles was soo good. I've never had it with feta cheese before. The spicy level was mild but the Serrano pepper that came with the meal certainly made my dish spicier. My son enjoyed the cookie. There was a chocolate chip in every bite. He didn't touch his chicken strips because he was just busy with the cookie! My husband said his omelette was pretty good. He finished the whole thing. Wow!!! Given the sheer volume of places that I eat at it is increasing difficulty to be impressed let alone blown away, and especially by breakfast. Let me start by saying I have been working on a book on breakfast places for over a decade so I have a massive sample size and that it is my favorite meal by far. Sunny side cafe blew me away! The place has a very misleading old diner that you might find anywhere USA, which is to say nothing at all that suggests the quality and caliber of it food. It's more the kind of food lace you expect the older regulars to meet up and drink coffee. The food however.....wow! I had the Mediterranean egg dish and it was light and tasty and perfect, also at the table was the chilaquiles with steak and the tastes were nuanced and balanced and the steak could have been a star in its own plate. The pancakes might be the fluffiest tastiest ones I've ever tried and to finish the experience off a big glass of fresh squeezed OJ made the meal perfect. read more

My first experience at Sunny Side Cafe was great. A little more expensive than some similar breakfast spots, but the food was good. Since then, I have had multiple disappointing meals. I brought my wife the second time, and she didn't like her meal. My pancakes weren't nearly as good as the first time Another time, I met up with a friend, and the service was extremely slow, and even worse, my pancakes were horrible. I honestly think they spilled some extra dry mixing in the bowl on accident or something like that, because they were BAD The ambiance is nice, and most of the staff is friendly. The last waitress I had seemed a little off, maybe just because it was busy. I wish I could go back to that first experience I had, but in about 4 trips since then, haven't had that same taste/feeling. 2nd time here and food is good! Local eggs are served and are super fresh and orange (good sign of a healthy egg). Also caught off guard how GREAT the espresso drinks & matcha are. My boyfriend got an iced vanilla latte and it was perfect sweetness. I got an iced vanilla matcha latte and was so good. They make their vanilla syrup in house, you can even see the vanilla bean specks at the top of the drinks a bit. We both got oat milk as well it was great. When there's a bit of a wait they're accurate with how long you'll wait to be seated. I say quality food and will definitely keep coming back! Oh also the seating is mostly all booths so you're nice and cozy :-) highly recommend the biscuits with I think brown sugar cinnamon butter? Wanted some bkfst and this place was right by our hotel. Our server was very nice. He took our order and the food took a hot minute but it was not a big deal. We ordered coffee, hot tea, chx fried steak and eggs, an all American with 4 extra eggs and oatmeal and berries. The food was good but the kitchen only gave 3 extra eggs. We let our server know and he made sure the extra egg was taken off the bill. Also, I didn't end up eating a lot of my bkfst (not because of taste, just wasn't very hungry) and he discounted it. A new place in the neighborhood! We have been there about 5 times for breakfast with our toddlers. They're still working on some things, so the experience isn't perfectly smooth, but the menu and quality of the food is solid. We love the French toast, homemade jam, and chilaquiles. The servers/waitstaff are hit or miss, but we had Joanne today as our server and she was so welcoming, attentive, and just overall on top of it. Despite taking care of 6-7 other tables she made us feel like she was paying special attention to us. One suggestion for management is the addition of booster seats for small children, especially due to the majority of the tables being booth style seating. read more

My wife and I have been going to Sunny Side for about a year now. It has become our favorite cafe in the Seal Beach / Los Alamitos area. Great value for the money. Smaller menu than most restaurants which I prefer because it makes choosing what you want easier and often means the food served is of higher quality. I can say without a doubt this is true for Sunny Side. Every dish has been high quality and I can tell the eggs actually are organic (they are not the usual pale eggs most restaurants serve....they are an orange to deep yellow in color). My wife had to go to Quest diagnostics in the same parking lot so after she was done I suggested we try this place. It took over the Denny's that was previously here but they gave it a nice facelift with new furniture and decor. Place was packed to the brim yet they were moving people quickly. While waiting there's a display case of beautiful desserts teasing you for later. After being seated we were blown away to find out they've only been open for 5 days. Honestly from start to finish this place felt like a well oiled machine. Great service, fantastic food, and comfortable atmosphere. Our waiter Adam was so friendly and did a perfect job even though it was packed. For my breakfast I went with the "Popeye omelette" which had spinach, bacon, tomatoes, and feta cheese. I got hashbrowns and and paid the $2 to have them "loaded" which includes bacon, cheese, and pico de gallo. $2 well spent. It also came with some rustic sourdough toast and housemade strawberry jam. My wife went with the chorizo omelette. I kept hearing them tell other tables the kitchen was backed up but I felt the food came out in a normal timespan. Seriously, for being open 5 days this was a delicious breakfast. Thick perfectly cooked bacon throughout. I loved everything about my breakfast and I was amazed how well they're doing for being in "soft opening" phase. By the time we finished our meals we both felt like we were about to explode but I saw an old lady walk past my table with a giant cinnamon roll in a take-out box. We ordered two to go but sadly they only had now left so now I have to share it. The things we do for our spouses. I haven't eaten it yet but I'll be sure to update later when I do. Went here on Easter for lunch/breakfast and had a great time! The waiter was super informative and friendly to talk to! I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup and it was fresh and delicious. My mom had the Daybreak and was also fresh and delicious. We bought a cookie and it was still warm and the salt on it adds a nice flavor to the dish! Tried this breakfast spot today and overall it was pretty good. The food tasted good, although the prices were a little on the expensive side for breakfast 3 entrees over $100 bucks. Service was amazing -- but mostly if they were your assigned server. One thing I noticed was that if you asked another server or any of the staff for help, they would usually just tell you to wait for your own server instead of helping directly. read more

We were very pleasantly surprised and pleased at the food the service and atmosphere in Sunnyside Café this noon. One of us had a soup salad and half turkey sandwich and the other had eggs Benedict. Both were delicious and served with a smile from our lovely waitress. Hubby was quite happy with the Eggs Benedict-- the eggs are high quality and ... what's the word for when something was made exactly according to how it ought to be? Stopped in for a brunch before our flight and were extremely happy we chose this place. The restaurant is very clean and upscale, with extremely friendly staff. We were barely in the door before we were greeted and lead to our table. When we looked at the menu we were torn between all of the yummy looking food options! They also have a wide variety of drinks to choose from as well. Here is what we ended up getting: All American Breakfast with loaded hash and a side sourdough bread slice: The sough dough looks and tastes like it came cut off a fresh baked loaf. Super soft and fluffy, and the slice was nice and thick. Everything just tased perfect and yummy! Avocado Toast: DELICIOUS! They were not shy with the amount of avocado, and again the slice of the bread was very thick. The poached egg on top was super runny and delicious! While it did get a little messy I would definitely order this again. The avocado was fresh and the bread was toasted to perfection. Nothing wrong with this dish. While we didn't get to try the fresh squeezed juice or mouthwatering pastry and cookies in the display case, this was an amazing breakfast stop. I highly recommend coming here and next time we are in the area we will definitely stop here again, if for nothing else but to try their chocolate chip cookie (which looked like the best cookie I've seen in a while) read more

I had a terrible experience with the manager who had black hair. While sitting at the counter, I informed her that my bacon was missing from my plate. Instead of addressing the issue, she turned around and told me that I couldn't hold three plates in my hand. She glanced at the ticket to see where my order was supposed to go and didn't realize I had ordered bacon and sausage. Instead of helping me, she gave me attitude and then had to walk to the window to request my bacon, which wasn't already there. The pancakes were so impressive, incredibly fluffy with nice crips edges! The staff is also pretty great! Now for the reason it's 4 stars not 5. Super cute restaurant! The service was great. You walk in and are immediately greeted. Luckily we got sat right away. They provide crayons and coloring page for your kiddos.
