As a southern transplant to the north, I can sometimes be overly critical of dishes like biscuits & gravy. I can tell you 110% that the chicken fried steak at Sunny Side Up Café is one of the best I've ever had. I've ordered it multiple times to make sure my praise held up. The steak is tender, the breading is well-seasoned and crispy, and there's a perfect amount of peppered gravy on top! Have no reservations when ordering the chicken fried steak. First time last time! We were there on Sunday morning it was busy so we knew it was gonna be a little bit of a wait. We were seated quite quickly and decided to order everything right away. Got our coffee and waited. Got my orange juice after about 20 min and asking for it. And we waited. 50 min later food finally. But alas the food was cold!! The smashed potatoes where not done and neither were the hash browns which were as pale as I am and ordered extra crispy! The toast was so cold that the thick layer of butter just sat there!! This is a cute little spot. The food was really yummy. The bacon is nice thick cut bacon. They have omelets and pancakes and waffles. Everything you are looking for in a breakfast/brunch place. The only downside was that the parking was a bit odd when I went as it was on Fish Fry day and it was set up for drive through pick up and I was not sure how to navigate that. Biscuits tasted good but very very small portion for the price. I fact after receiving the bill we looked at each other and were confused. Confused on why it cost so much for so little. Eggs, not expensive unless organic. Big pillowy biscuits perhaps maybe have some cost associated with them, but these were smaller than a hockey puck. This is our go to spot even ordering from Waukesha using Door Dash as they do not deliver to the area. They're breakfast and Brunch is wonderful. We order on weekends from work even though it's farther away. They have great Benedicts and farmhouse skillets. I get the traditional eggs, bacon and toast often enough too. It's always the way you ordered it (sunny side up, medium or hard). Never had an issue with the way it's cooked. They're bacon and sausage is farmhouse style from a butcher, it's noticed. Had the day off of work so I thought why not try a new place that shouldn't be too busy. When you first walk in it's a little odd, to the left is just an empty space. There's not a host/hostess so you just sit wherever you want, if you don't know that you just stand there feeling silly for a second not knowing what to do. The waitress came over rather quickly and was friendly. She took our order and it was nice that it didn't take too long to get our food. Unfortunately I was slightly disappointed with what I got. The hash browns were not that good, I had to add quite a bit of salt and pepper plus Cholula. The omelet was ok, the ham seemed a little weird but overall it wasn't too bad. It was a decent sized portion but the prices are a little high in my opinion, not to mention you have to pay extra for toast. Who charges extra for toast? Friendly people are never a bad thing to walk into. The place definitely has a small-town feel inside while being in not a small town. The service was quick and easy, there's plenty on the walls to look at, the stuffed animal mounted heads above the door were great. I got the rodeo omelette and I was not let down. One of the better omelette I've had in a long time. We also got a chocolate chip pancake with the sausage links on the side. The pancake was very sweet, which was expected with the chocolate chips. We both ordered ham & cheese omelets described as ham cut off the bone & we both got hardly any ham, just fat & grizzle. Gross!! The Yukon potatoes must have been yesterday's, reheated. I'm usually not the kind of person to write a bad review but for the cost, it was an awful breakfast & lacked quality. It will be a very long time before we go back. First off lee did an outstanding job at making me feel like I was having breakfast with friends for my first visit, he treats his guests well. You are not just a number here to lee you are treated like good friends. That being said, this place is like a month old and some people have experienced service issues but I didn't have any. Lee personally greeted everyone and went around the room to make sure everything was ok. The place is in a little strip mall looking building and doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is cool and lee decorated the place. The paces is very colorful and looks fresh with wood floors and cool metal chairs. I think it's a cool cafe and a nice addition to the area. Lee is off to a good start when you think about some of the details he has thought of like the colecctivo Coffey which is good, he uses the good plump jones lean sausage and the biscuit and gravy is house mad every day and not used the next day he says. You have a nice cloth napkin with hearty feeling silver ware. There is a complementary fresh fruit plate that he starts everyone off with. All these little things with my breakfast were noted and well thought of. I will post pictures of there menu since I don't see a web page linked to Yelp so you can check out the food. I had to get the biscuit and gravy which I tweaked by substituting sausage links for the bacon and eggs sunny for scrambled. The plate looked great when it hit the table and much nicer than my southern breakfast that was disappointing from down south. The eggs were perfect sunny side up. The Jones plump lean sausage wast moist and tasty, nice touch. The biscuit and gravy was good with plenty of gravy, not skimpy like some places. The biscuit was the nice hearty kind and the gravy is a simple one where the sausage is the tasty star. Over all this was a great breakfast spot and I can't wait to try some more of the menu. I wish lee great success and I hope some of the opening pains that people are having issues with get worked out because this is a cool breakfast place that I hope is around for a while. read more

Stopped in for breakfast this morning after hearing good things from family. The parking is a little odd, as you technically go in a different entrance to get to the extended parking. However, it's off a frontage-style road so it wasn't too bad. We arrived at 9:30AM, and it was definitely the perfect time for a Sunday - due to the church crowd. The tables are placed a tad bit close together, but overall the atmosphere is welcoming and family-friendly. The business doesn't look like it started as a restaurant design-wise; but it works as one! Our server, a younger girl with dark hair, was AMAZING. She was so funny and made our entire experience even better. I ordered biscuits and gravy, and my husband had the "up north" breakfast. I'm not a fan of eggs, but they gladly let me substitute for hash browns - score! Everything arrived quickly, tasted delicious, and multiple members of the staff came and checked in on us throughout our time there. The menu is a good size, there are quite a few options. Overall, I'd love to return, and likely will! I'm hoping they continue their success and are able to expand to a space that suits them even better! read more

There were 3 of us. One had blueberry pancakes that were perfect. You could taste the buttermilk. The other had eggs, bacon and Yukon potatoes. I had the same but with cheesy, Vidalia onions on the potatoes. The potatoes were the bomb. I see some people complained about prices. Good bacon costs money. This bacon was excellent, nice and thick and cooked perfectly. Surprisingly, the coffee was also good. It didn't taste like typical diner coffee. It had an excellent robust flavor. The only negative is they didn't have real maple syrup, but it was warmed. Highly recommend this diner for breakfast. read more

This is a solid 3.5, but worth the round up. Small and on an odd street, you will need to keep your eye open to not miss it. Walking in, we were greeted and immediately seated in the small dining area. The service was quick and good with a pleasant and helpful waitress. The menu has excellent descriptions of the food offerings - would just caution that their description of enormous or huge is sorta big or normal size. I know I'm a big guy with a disproportionate American serving sensibility, but that's my criteria for whatever that's worth. They are all about supportinng local producers and that is a big plus. I ordered the "Up North at The Cabin", one of their signature dishes with a small ham steak, one slice of bacon and one sausage (menu said two, but I got one), three eggs, toast and a side of potatoes. Described as "huge", but again, more like normal. They call the potatoes "Yukes" which are Yukon Gold potatoes, boiled and maybe pan fried for a bit with simple, if any seasoning. We were quickly seated, our order taken, and food delivered all within the space of about 20 minutes even with the place being slammed with customers. My omelette was very good. They use a really good ham and sausage. My potatoes were well cooked and tasty. I enjoy the vibe. Staff is friendly.
