I don't hate it. I don't love it, either. It's a solid choice for a diner, and particular a breakfast place -- something that seems in short supply in the area. The service is quick, the food affordable and sometimes way above average, and the wait staff attentive. I met a friend here one morning and was pretty excited -- both about getting together with a friend and for trying someplace different. Sunny's is the type of low-key place we like. It's a diner in all respects: no frills, no table candles, slightly uneven floors, tables that wobble, flatware wrapped in paper napkins; a hodgepodge of decorations. However, the food portions were huge. Sunny's is very generous with its portion sizes. When my plate arrived, I nearly asked for a to-go box immediately as I knew I would not be able to finish it all. I say "nearly" because I wouldn't have bothered with a to-go box as I'm not really a fan of leftover anything -- except maybe wine and chocolate -- neither of which is on the menu here. The corned beef hash was probably two or three scoops worth. It was surprisingly tasty. It wasn't homemade; but didn't taste like it was right out of a can, either. I was pretty impressed. The grits had just the right hint of salt but were otherwise "meh". The eggs -- well -- they were eggs. They tasted pretty good with a liberal sprinkling of hot sauce to cover up the fact the edges were slightly rubbery from being overcooked. As for the coffee? It was hot and that's about all I can say. The wait staff was pretty awesome, though. If It sounds worse than it was, it shouldn't deter you from stopping here because Sunny's doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is -- a local, nothing-fancy diner. We just had breakfast there and we could not eat it. The eggs were over done and rubbery. The hash browns where greasy and no flavor. The sausage links tasted boiled no flavor. We told the waitress that is tall and thin with short curly hair she said ok and that was it. Never offered to fix it We paid $25 for nothing. read more

True diner like feel. Nevermind the fact that it's in the same plaza as a gas station--it stands alone. Ordered a veggie omelet with hash browns and english muffin. The Veggie omelet was good sized and loaded with peppers and mushrooms. The hash browns were golden and delicious. I mix the potato with the cut up omelet to make it into a frittata of sorts. Delicious. Every bite. English muffin was really toasted. This pancake was delicious. Now definitely covered in melted butter. So if you're watching your health--still eat it, because it was worth every bite. They're liberal with their butter here, but maybe that's just the South. Either way, good service, very fair prices. I've come back here nearly a year later later. I was treated a lot better, including by the waitress I eventually got a year ago. I also came because it's near to the airport. It's not very near, but it's sort of near if you're going batck to Durham, I guess. As again, the service was attentive but it took freaking forever got get anything to eat. This time about half an hour instead of well over an hour. I'm led to understand it's just one man (the owner) on the griddle so now I understand. It was certainly a lot faster than my last time. I was also served by a woman who I think was the replacement for my nasty waitress last time. She's a bit older than me and very very nice and I like her a lot! It's great if you want some fast breakfast food. They serve breakfast until 3 and lunch starts at 12. We came in on a Sunday morning , there were plenty of booths and tables available. The prices are pretty reasonable, I got two pancakes, 2 bacon links, and 2 eggs for $5.99. I asked for chocolate chips on my pancakes but they only serve pancakes plain here. My bacon was a little too crispy, I felt like I was eating a potato chip. My boyfriend ordered an omelette and he enjoyed it. Overall it was an okay place, I would come back again. read more

This is a seat yourself establishment. It's very spacious and clean on the inside. My co-worker and I sat in a booth in the back corner. We were greeted pretty quickly and given menus. There were a lot of great/cheap choices to choose from. I opted to go with the philly omelette with grits. The food was great! The only thing that would've made this perfect is if they had sour cream. Nonetheless, the toast was perfect and the grits were great! I got a large quantity of food for only $6!!!! I didn't know what to expect, a diner attached to a gas station...I mean, I've seen almost every episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, but still... I stopped in for breakfast with a couple people over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. It's a good sized restaurant and the service is pretty good. The prices are perfect, very affordable and its a perfect spot for a quick easy breakfast; perhaps and cheap gut-buster after a long night out? I think I had two eggs, country ham, hash browns, bacon, sausage, & two pancakes for $6. The kitchen set-up is very similar to a Waffle House - a big griddle where food is lovingly prepared. A peek into the kitchen is definitely a must as pancakes are lined down the right side of the griddle, hash browns scattered throughout with bacon & ham interspersed amongst eggs. Definitely don't sleep on Sunny Han and as another noted, the pancakes are quite good. I wouldn't drive across town for this but its a much need diner option for those living in the area. read more

We went for breakfast on Saturday morning and service was quick and friendly, and the preperation of the food was adequate, but the quality of ingrediants used was sub-par. There's a generous coating of margarine that goes on the griddle before everything is cooked which also turned me off. I had 2 eggs over easy, hashbrowns, and turkey sausage, while my guest ordered a 3-cheese omlet with ham added, while the waitress gave him a ham a cheddar omlet. I don't write many reviews, especially negative ones. I have to make an exception in this case, however. Sunny's Diner just served us some of the worst food I've ever tasted. And this is coming from someone who loves simple, unpretentious diner food. It started with the coffee. I'm no coffee snob, but even after three sugars and two creamers it still wasn't even drinkable. You'll get better coffee at the Waffle House. The hash browns came as a smooshed-out patty and were unrecognizable as hash browns. They had a terrible fishy flavor to them. I suspect they had been deep-fried in old oil. I took only two bites. The second bite was to confirm that the first one really was as awful as I initially thought it was. I should have left it at one bite. The bacon was at room temperature, obviously cooked up early in the morning and just left in a pan. They didn't even bother to warm it up. We also sat in a booth where we could watch the cooks behind the counter. Well, we saw enough questionable sanitation issues to make me suspicious of anything else going on back there. I'll spare you the details; just trust me. On the plus side, my eggs were over easy, just as I asked for them. The English muffin was lightly toasted. Finally, the hard-working waitress was very sweet and took excellent care of us. For those reasons, I'll give it two stars; however, those positives just can't outweigh the rest of the horrible food. read more

So, I have found that trying to find a good solid brunch place in the triangle is like trying to get a talking cat not on the internet. You've heard that such things exist, but can't ever seem to find it yourself. With that disclaimer, I give to you Sunny's Diner. Its not too far from Brier Creek, which I would think would have more options than Bob Evans for breakfast-y type things. There's no decor to speak up and when we went this past friday, there seemd to be plenty of space. The wait staff were quite attentive and friendly, and honestly, the kind of ladies you wanna see in a diner. I ordered the french toast with bananas and my s.o. got the Hobo breakfast. The portions are huge, we definitely had a doggie bag. I actually really liked my french toast, it was crispy, super sweet and the bananas set it off quite well. My compatriot seemed pleased with his mass amount of pancakes, meat, and eggs. The only miss for him was the hashbrowns. Breakfast was in the $15 range, which for us was fantastic. I would definitley recommend this place if you are looking for a no-frills, decent food kind of joint. read more

This place must be run by time travelers or aliens, because although it is attached to one of those generic gas station-convenience-store plazas, it is a very real, old fashioned diner, with good food and prices seem like they are from the 1970s. Generous portion of eggs, perfectly scrambled. Light, fluffy pancakes. Crisp bacon. Most if the French toast in the area seems to have just been waved past an egg. The pancakes are worth noting...Han (the husband of the husband/wife owner team) makes a pancake unlike any other. He leaves them on the griddle well after most restaurants would pull them. You could almost call them overcooked. They come out deep brown, and a little tough. Not soft and cloud-like. But here's the thing...that's good! REALLY good, because I despise doughy pancakes. I find it aggressively unpleasant. Han's are never that way because he cooks them for so long. Better than that, the pancakes are actually crispy on the outside. SO GOOD!!! I seriously love this place. My boyfriend and I come here regularly. It's good, cheap food. You can get an entire order of French toast for $3.99. It's six slices of heaven. The same guy cooks everything by himself so if they are busy the food can sometimes take a while, but it is always worth it. The waitresses (there's only 3, but they can MOVE!!) are always so friendly. They always remember us and greet everyone that comes through with a huge smile and a great big welcome! It may be attached to a gas station, but the food is 100% better than the appearance. Don't let the outside or the 1950s decor confuse you. The food is what keeps us coming back for more. read more

We've been going to Sunny's for a few years and this review is over-due. Service here is usually very quick and efficient, and breakfast is quite good. My fella usually gets a veggie omelette and I usually get eggs over easy. The cook, who I assume is Sunny because he is always there, I mean always, makes a very good breakfast. Everything comes to your table as you asked for it. Waitresses are seasoned waitresses who do a very good job af making sure you get what you want and are prompt in drink refills and bringing the check when you're done. You can get in and out of here very quickly if that's important to you... or you can take yor leisurely time like we usually do. We haven't had anything other than breakfast here so I can't comment on anything other that that, but breakfast is good here so we keep going back now and again. read more
