Visited today for lunch. Been to SunnySide several times now. Always know several of the other guests when we eat here. Today's service was slow. You guys were busy. However, that's really no excuse for slow service. After we were treated to the slow service, we paid and we were immediately asked to leave to allow a reservation to be seated. Never have I been asked to leave like this. POOR, POOR customer service. So poor that 1) I will never return to SunnySide, 2) I'm having to complain on social media about SunnySide and I never complain unless it's super bad and 3) I'm telling all those other guests that I've seen in SunnySide about our experience. read more

The food is good...just wish they would allow you to order syrup on the side. We were told that the kitchen would not "modify" the order to do this! So much for the customer always being right or for knowing what he/she likes! Food was wasted. However, we were kind enough to "modify" our bill by adding a tip. read more

Were on our way to another place for lunch when we noticed Sunny Side Cafe. We loved it! Bright, airy atmosphere with incredible food! We are vegetarians, and Clemson doesn't offer much, but Sunny Side had several choices (even vegan). The quesadillas were awesome, and the Moroccan soup (changes daily) was amazing. Underwhelmed. Food was ok, but misrepresented in the menu descriptions. Polenta cakes had same taste and texture as the pancakes (that were also ordered at our table). There was no trace of citrus in the polenta cakes. The "stuffed" French toast was also disappointing. It was basically smeared in a cinnamon buttery substance and that passed as "stuffed." When you go to school in Clemson, South Carolina, you may feel overwhelmed by the never-ending strip of fast-food joints and quick meals on Tiger Blvd. It may seem hard to find a decent "sit-down" restaurant at first, but they do exist. However, there aren't many--I can probably list them all on my two hands. So, when a new joint in town opens up it's usually a big deal. People will flock to try it, and that was the case as well when SunnySide Café opened in 2016. However, although there are definitely a few restaurant gems to be discovered in Clemson, I can assure you SunnySide Café is not one of them. There is nothing better on a Sunday afternoon than enjoying a fresh omelet and mimosa with friends. This is what I was expecting when I went to finally try SunnySide almost 6 months after its grand opening. I had constantly heard only great reviews about the food, freshness, and service. It was the conclusion to another GameDay weekend, so naturally the town was packed with visitors and families. We had waited for our table for no more than 15 minutes, which impressed me. The hostess was friendly and accommodating to my larger-than-usual group (about 10 of us). That is right where the "good service" stopped. As for seating, there wasn't a table in the whole restaurant that fit more than 4 people, which seemed a little strange to me. So, my group had to split up and sit away from each other--yet not even tables next to each other. We were divided across the whole restaurant. To say our waitress was slow is an understatement. It took nearly 15 minutes just to receive our waters, and probably about another 15 until we even had our orders taken. I pushed the annoyance of the slow service out of my mind in anticipation of the delicious food I had heard so much about. As it was almost 2:00 pm by the time we were got there, I was less in a breakfast mood and my eyes shifted towards the lunch side of the menu. I had my heart set on the Turkey Pesto Panini, only to be told that the restaurant was out of pesto. This was a major setback for my group, as we all had been dreaming about the same menu item. I stayed optimistic and opted for the chicken salad wrap instead with a side of fries. Yet, when I asked my waitress if I could have my chicken salad wrap hot-pressed, as I prefer it, I not only was denied, but felt insulted by her reaction. She looked at me as if I had asked her for $1 million dollars in cash, and I quickly dismissed the request as I realized they clearly didn't do that there. I felt more annoyed by the lack of accommodation and rude reaction than the actual fact that my chicken salad wrap wouldn't be served the way I desired. The worst part of the entire experience was the arrival of our food. I was honestly shocked by the lack of effort seemingly put into my $9 dollar wrap. It was a mere two tiny lumps of chicken salad plopped in the middle of poorly rolled and stale spinach wrap. It tasted even worse than it looked--completely mediocre. One of my friends, who had ordered a basic turkey wrap with lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayo had an even more depressing plate. Her "turkey wrap" was 2 pieces of dry meat and some cheap shredded cheese thrown onto a tortilla--no lettuce, no tomato, no mayo. To try and salvage our sad-looking dishes, I requested a side of honey mustard. When the waitress told me they did not have honey mustard, I requested plain, yellow mustard. When she told me they didn't even have that, I then looked at her like she was the crazy one. I have never heard of a restaurant--especially one that serves lunch--to not have the most basic condiment in America--mustard. We angrily ate our wraps, disappointed and no longer even hungry. That check was one of the most reluctant I've ever been to pay. I was more confused than anything--I had only heard great things about SunnySide, but every single person I ate with that day had just as bad an experience as mine. Upon looking around at other diners' breakfast plates, I considered coming back and trying that route instead. Then I remembered the terrible service, the awful quality of the food, and the lousy experience I had sitting at that table and thought against it. One day I may be willing to give SunnySide Café another chance, at breakfast this time--but most likely that day will not happen for awhile. read more

Our first time at Sunnyside Cafe. Waiter came to get our order almost immediately. Husband ordered eggs, home fries, sausage & toast. He was pleased. I ordered the shrimp & grits. It also came with eggs & home fries. Food was delivered in about 10 minutes My 1st experience eating shrimp & grits was awesome!! The flavor was fantastic! I will definitely go to Sunnyside & order it again! I wish you could order just the shrimp & grits. No need for the eggs & home fries After savoring our breakfast we waited for our check. And we waited and we waited and we waited. Our waiter was in the dining area many times and it was obvious we were done [plates piled to the side of table]. Finally after waiting almost 20 minutes we got our check! I understand if it was busy but there were only 7 tables occupied and there was 2 wait staff in the dining room. At one point there were 3. So in conclusion food....AWESOME! Service....needs improvement! read more
