This place filled up most mornings pre-pandemic and even more so now. Even with the limited seating, disposable place settings and limited menu it is still an outstanding choice for breakfast. So much on the menu sounds great, it's hard to settle on something. All the usual items you'd expect on a breakfast menu and lots of unique creations as well. I think there were eggs Benedict done 8 different ways on our recent visit: four on the regular menu and another four as weekly specials. Received excellent service from Shakari. This place is OUTSTANDING! We had a hunch about an almost 1 hour wait when we arrived - must be a good sign. So we sat down on the wooden bench and waited. It was actually only about 45 minutes. And SOOOOO worth it! We ordered The Mountain Man - think allll the breakfast foods in one meal and the *special* Whistlestop Eggs Benedict. Everything was cooked to perfection - as in perfectly poached eggs - and served hot! I almost remarked that they're not charging enough because the food was top tier amidst a low-profile setting. We always come and get banana pancakes and the homemade hash. Since they haven't been serving the hash this was the first weekend we were back in Boone that they had it back on the menu. Today, they weren't allowing you to order online or call in orders. The phone wasn't even working. Very disappointed. I have been coming to Sunrise Grill for years. There are very good reasons why they have such consistent repeat customers! The Grillman's Breakfast plate is always my go to order. Two eggs cooked however you want, cheese, peppers, onions, and home fries (best choice) or hash browns, plus your choice of bread. Hot sauce and steak sauce are both on the table. YUM! This place is always busy. Despite their busy rushes, the coffee and breakfast plates are always delicious and hot. The parking lot is pretty big, so even when they are busy, you should be able to park easily. Pull over and get some delicious breakfast, lunch, or brunch from this wonderful place. read more

Day 5 - road trip -vacation food - Breakfast Okay, so on to day 5. We found a wonderful spot called The Sunrise Grill (just down the road from Troy's 105 Diner!) I was in love with this place from the moment we stepped inside the screened door porch. So many great options, it was hard to select just one! I went with a special that day, The Lonestar Benedict. High Country brisket served on an English muffin with Hollandaise sauce. It was divine! My dad had an egg and bacon sandwich on toast, with potatoes. My mom had a scrambled egg with wheat toast, and some sliced tomatoes. The tot opted for a chocolate chip pancake with blueberry eyes and a strawberry nose. Unfortunately, they don't offer this locally popular item anymore. I had the Grillman, good portion and presentation but served barely warm. Biscuit and gravy was cold. Red velvet pancakes were awesome. Hash browns were awesome. Sausage gravy flavor was a bit bland. Server Brianna was delightful, friendly and quick. My friend and I stopped in for Brunch on July 4th. The place was packed. We didn't have to wait very long to be seated. I ordered gluten free pancakes and my friend got a blueberry pancake. I was extremely disappointed in the gf pancakes. They are made of bananas and eggs whisk together but no "gf four" base. So basically it tastes like mushed bananas. We got bacon and sausage which was tasty. My friend seemed to enjoy her pancake. Side not, orange juice is not fresh squeezed which I was disappointed in. Would try again and order something else. I gave Sunrise Grill a 5 star rating due to their spectacular service provided by the friendly waitstaff and the delicious food. We were staying overnight in Boone to celebrate our 2 year anniversary and even though the hotel offered a hot breakfast, I was craving some biscuits and gravy and checked Yelp to give me an idea where I could get this meal. So Yelp recommended a few places and Sunrise Grill had excellent reviews. We landed at Sunrise Grill and were immediately welcomed by the friendly, and attentive, waitstaff. They have an excellent breakfast menu and I order my beloved biscuits and gravy with a side order of 2 sausage patties and home fries. The homemade gravy and homemade biscuits were perfect and perfectly seasoned. So were the home fries. My fiancee order the croissant doughnut with raspberry coulee sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon . She said it was delicious and she would order it again on our next Boone visit. The Sunrise Grill has a wide variety of breakfast items included Corned Beef Hash, omelettes, French Toast, breakfast sandwiches and lunch plates as well. We are from Miami fl, came for a visit to Boone NC for the New year. Got a recommendation from our waitress at peddlin pig to try this place out for breakfast. We came here the day before we leave. My only regret is not coming sooner in the week. They have so much to choose from. Food was fresh and tasted great. We are a family of 4 no small children. Each got our own plate. Payed 31.45 with tax. Price was amazing. Will definitely be back here when we are back in town. Not a very big place, did have to wait about 40 mins to be seated and although we are a party or 4 we came in a big party and they could not sit us all together we had about three tables 4 people to a table. read more

Whenever I'm going to breakfast with a friend in Boone, I feel like they always suggest Sunshine! It's such a staple in our little mountain town. Their service is extremely warm and friendly. If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. I can't say I'm that picky on food but I am on good service, I worked in Food service for ten years putting my self through my doctorate program. It is a cute place, the menu was good, food was fine. First problem. The restaurant has 16 tables, understandable if the waiting area wasn't twice as big as the restaurant. 2nd problem, very non personable hostess, who obviously doesn't have a clue on her job. There literally was a 2 top that sat empty for 30 minutes while she sat 5 couples in front of us. Hence a two top. Also the bussers didn't clear the tables right away, so out the 16 tables only 12 were being used. 3rd problem, we waited for 1.5 hours for a table.. really......... we were not given a wait time. We asked how many people were in front of us 45 minutes into waiting and told 5 (by the non personable hostess and obviously uneducated) because it was 10. 4th problem, we told the waitress (since we had an 90 minute wait), we were in a hurry, we ordered right away. (After looking in line because we were told there were not enough menus). Ten minutes later she cake back and said, I haven't put your order in yet because the kitchen was behind. Then she didn't get half of it correct! Seriously. They're are 16 tables and 46 chairs! You have to know your kitchen is going to busy in a weekend morning. Have enough staff. 5th problem, why would you put your cashier in front of the waitress stand and kitchen. When you have a huge space in the waiting area.. So even if our food was out of this world. I wouldn't give it any higher stars. If I was eating at. 5 star restaurant with multiple courses I might expect to give up 2.5 hours of my life. But not for this.. I want to preface the review. As the owner came out and was very upset. She checked to see how long we were there and she said I am very sorry. And tried to make amends. Went here for breakfast and ordered the avocado toast just because I saw they used Ezekiel bread for it (yay) & it was just ok. I had soysauge on the side (sausage with a soy meat - tasted like regular sausage so good). Anyway, avocado toast is huge nowadays and so it's hard to compete and this one lacked flavor but was filling and healthier than most Avo toasts so I enjoyed. Their omelettes looked really good. We went on a Sunday morning and there was a wait, but at least we had great rocking chairs on a porch to hang out on while we waited. Everyone there was sooooo friendly. I mean, super cheerful. They sat us at a high-top by the door, which wasn't great, but we didn't care. My boyfriend and I ordered iced coffee, and we were given refills and a to-go cup. Amazing!! I ordered the Crunch and Munch Wrap with a biscuit on the side, and my boyfriend got the irish omelette special that had corned beef hash inside as well as a over-easy egg. Both meals were amazing!!! There was so much food and every bite was as delicious as the last. And the prices were pretty amazing as well. All that food that stuffed 2 hungry people cost around $20. Lots of choices in town, this one is a great choice. Few seats outside for your dog and while waiting they had a dulcimer player. Specials available and home made bread for a 1.00 extra, spend the dollar. The hash is amazing. The Irish omlete is filled with hash, topped with eggs then rolled in an omlete. Egg overload in a good egg way. Monte Cristo sandwich is huge, flavorful and not greasy or over sweet. Good job on portion size and great service. Solid all American breakfast. They also have breakfast burritos which are pretty great as well! This was my second time going and today decided to get The Grayson which is their French toast, which is made with in-house made bread, with cream cheese and raspberry filling. It was beautiful and delicious! My boyfriend got the lone star Benedict with gravy which was also a hit as well. Overall I great place to stop for breakfast if you are in Boone. But be warned it's a smaller building meaning there is usually a wait and the wait can get pretty long if you aren't early. read more
