Great southern hospitality. I love the at home feel of the restaurant. The menu is like your typical all American diner. Breakfast includes the staples such as eggs, toast, and bacon along with omelets and other breakfast items. Lunch menu is filled with burgers and sandwiches. I ordered the French toast with strawberries as my fruit of choice with a side of bacon. Everything I ate was good. The staff is just outstanding. My daughter came to visit from Florida and I took her to the Sunrise Grill near Augusta for breakfast. I had eaten there before and it was ok. We got there at about 9am. It was busy but only one couple waiting. The girl at the counter said it would be about a 10 minute wait so she took my name and we sat on the bench outside. Well, the couple was called inside and we thought we would be next. A party of 4 came out and a party of 3 went in. We thought they would be put on the list and we would be next. They didn't come back out and 2 more went in. I went inside and saw they were all seated so we left and never went back. I was going to head to That Flipping Egg but as we got on the road I saw a sign for Ruth's restaurant. We went there and have been going back ever since. been here before as PERKOS and before that, and today was the first time being disappointed in my ''service'' waitress awareness and concern for our satisfaction, and the ''chef salad'' that i had to cut up and turn it from BASIC INGREDIENTS i into a ''salad mix, (after i took out the yellow lettuce that is the bitter core of the lettuce head) by the time i finished making my stack of ingredients into a salad, most of the 9 people party were half done with their meal.... my wife ordered a turkey / mash potatoes plate and notice it was a TURKEY ROLL, not a slice of turkey.. never has she ever gotten that as a meal. read more

Very disappointed in chef salad. 14 bucks for a salad with lettuce that was in huge chunks, barely cut, there were no tomatoes, no cucumbers, and the egg wasn't even cut. Like, seriously, and then the plastic ware they give for to-go is so flimsy you can't use it to cut the huge pieces of lettuce. Pic of salad shows a couple slices of purple onion, but reality was a huge handful of chopped whit onion buried in the corner under huge lettuce chuncks. And my tea was only half full. I was excited to eat here but I was running a little late to join my party. They were told they will not be sat unless everyone was there. The party sat down at a table not big enough and I had to go on a wait. Why couldn't you just pull another table together and pull up chairs? I've been trying to get here for a long time and finally made it this am! The wait was 25 mins...not to bad...I was expecting a wait considering the things I have heard. We were seated and our waitress came promptly to take our drink orders. She them came back for our food order. I got the poached eggs w/ a side of home fries. The husband got 2 eggs, bacon, toast and home fries. This was my first time trying poached eggs...they were good but I wouldn't get them again. Not b/c they tasted back just bc I didn't like my egg poached. The fruit was good and OMG the home fries were amazing! I am happy I chose to get the side. My husband said his bacon was perfectly cooked and looked his food. The food came SUPER fast. My husband even made a comment as to how fast it came. So far, this is the best breakfast joint I've found in the Augusta area. There was a crowd when we went by the restaurant, but we didn't wait long to be seated (maybe 1 minute). Our waitress was friendly, and even though we could tell she was super busy, she made sure we were well taken care of through our stay. The food was delicious all around - biscuits and gravy were top-notch, and the kids absolutely loved the waffles with strawberry toppings. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here - sunny, busy, and buzzing, without being overly crowded and hectic. You owe it to your taste buds to try their homemade, mouth watering, whipped cream. The smooth consistency is to perfection. This stuff is better than real ice cream. Cooks in the kitchen were wearing gloves, but constantly pulling their pants up, or grabbing their long sleeve shirt to wipe the sweat off their face, then touching the food. What is the point of wearing gloves? Absolutely, disgusting. I ordered a biscuit sandwich, which was large and good in flavor with a side of fresh seasonal fruit. But the fruit I got was canned and a pile of mushy mess. It had dark red brownish strawberries, cantelope, something that was either grapefruit or an orange. My hubby swore it was a pruned peach, and something dark and gooey at the bottom. I didn't touch it. It was really repulsive. I cant believe anyone would serve that in a restaurant. Prices were inexpensive, which seems appropriate for subpar food. This place is nothing but a local IHOP. I gave it two stars because it is one of the only places open on Sunday and we were able to get seated immediately at the bar. However, I will not be returning here....ever. read more

Service was excellent. Kept reading about the sweet potato pancakes. The waitress mentioned we could get samples. 3 of us got the samples. 1 of us had the actual order. They were sweet and tasted like pumpkin pancakes. I ordered the BLT. Can't mess that up. Others ordered waffles and egg sandwich. We all left full and happy. Wow! We wanted a good place with no fuss to have breakfast food. And preferably one with eggs Benedict, because it's my husband's favorite. That's what he ended up ordering, with breakfast potatoes, and he loved it. I got the veggie omelette with a side of grits and rye toast. Our friend got the corned beef hash and was very impressed. I can now give this place a fair review after trying it again for the second time. I believe our expectations were set just a tad high because of all the wonderful breakfast joints we had in California. That is not the case here. Besides Sunrise and Ruth's, Augusta is like a breakfast desert. That being said, the breakfast we had this morning was good and so was the service. My husband had the Mexican omelette and it was really tasty. I tried the three pancakes and two eggs dish and substituted sweet potato pancakes for regular ones. It was a great choice but so filling. I could only finish two of the three pancakes. They were fluffy and delicious. I wouldn't be so willing to turn my nose up to this place now and am glad we gave it a second try, even if it did take us three years to do it. I'm a sucker for a greasy spoon and will gladly come back. read more

Sat at the counter and was HORRIFIED to see an ungloved line cook dig his hand in the shredded cheese and pop some in his mouth. I told the waitress who agreed that was unacceptable and said she would talk to him. She did and immediately most of the line went on break. One cook came back in and took a knapsack off a shelf, then LAID it on the food prep surface so it touched the sliced cheese! He then pulled out cigarettes an passed them out to the remaining cooks. One poked his behind his ear. I went to the register and relayed what I saw saying I would not be finishing my food. The cashier said she understood and that she could take my drink off, "but there is not much more" she could do. So many elderly patrons love the grill because the staff is friendly. After a year of living in Gerogia, less than a mile away from this place, I finally got to go. I love diners, hole in the walls and breakfast--so even the idea of this place was amazing. Apparently the breakfast crowd is pretty thick and generally people have to wait a bit before they can get seated but both mornings that I've gone so far, at the time that I arrived (which I will not disclose because not only do I not want to give away my choice seating timing but I also don't think that time of the morning that I went should ever be mentioned aloud), there were quite a few tables open. The food was excellent, each time that I have gone I have had an omelet and home fries. My plate was covered, greasy and delicious! The staff are helpful and gracious, especially with the time it took us to decide what we wanted with it being the momentous--there are just so many things to choose from! read more
