Sunrun has a great repair person named Chris. I personally do not care for the company itself and gave them well deserved negative reviews in the past. Now days I call the mainland when something goes wrong with the system and get better results than dealing with the local idiots. Chris was sent out to repair my system Chris was amazing!! He got the system working better than it was when it was new. Sunrun would be a great company if they focused on customer service and hiring more people like Chris. They should be able to fix problems in a more timely manner. When there are no problems, the system works perfectly like it supposed to. If Sunrun hires more people like Chris, they could have 4 and 5 stars reviews. Sunrun has tried renaming to avoid bad reviews but no matter what they name themselves they get 98% negative reviews. Some advice for Sunrun. Hire more honest salespeople, get more competent administrative personnel on the top, service what you sell in a timely manner, and stop using cheap parts. They should promote Chris to a supervisory training position because he knows how to treat customers and can train and teach others in the company to be just like him. Honest, hardworking, and knowledgeable. Chris goes up and beyond the call of Duty to make sure your system is working perfectly and he makes sure you are completely satisfied before he leaves. Employees can't read and are apparently entirely blind. We have no less than 3 No Soliciting signs up, one of which is screwed into the middle of the metal screen door, we have solar, which is clearly visible from the road. This guy still comes up to knock on the door to sell us solar. Do you want blind people that don't know how to read installing solar on your house? Do you want blind people that don't know how to read handling your financing for the solar? I'd think not. Look elsewhere. read more

I stupidly didn't read the reviews before we agreed to join the SunRun lease program. The whole purpose of getting the system was so that we would have power if HECO went down. It hasn't even been a year I live in the country on Oahu and yesterday we've had the worst storm I can remember. We haven't had power since yesterday Friday the batteries weren't "communicating" with the house since Tuesday. Customer service were very unsympathetic quoted our lease agreement told me I had to wait till Tuesday for diagnosis and then after that we could schedule a service appointment. Writing this update after my experience getting a Tesla Powerwall 2 battery replaced: I caught the issue in April 4, 2025, Sunrun finally replaced the DEAD Tesla battery on August 11, 2025. The battery was dead since September 2024. Their system did not flag or monitor it. I had to call their Customer Service dept to request them to open a case 3 different times; 3 cases because Sunrun's incompetent, remote (mainland-based) case managers kept closing the work orders saying there was nothing wrong with my system (by running a diagnostic from their computers, hahhahhaha when I can clearly see the battery is dead and 2 different local service techs worked on the battery for 4 hours each visit and came to the same dead battery conclusion). SEPARATE CASE REQUESTS spanning the 4 months to get someone out to replace a clearly dead battery when they had plenty of new ones in stock in their warehouse ( I was told by the local field techs). All the local field techs are great! Plenty Hawaii born and bred. However, there are literally NO local Sunrun offices. Everything is farmed out to the mainland. So you're dealing with mainlanders assigned to your service/maintenance cases who never interact with you, never see your system, never interact with their Hawaii teams. I tried contacting each of the 3 different mainland case managers assigned to my dead battery issue. Through constant calls, follow ups, emails, I got their names, some emails, some phone numbers and I tried contacting and f/u with all 3 of them. Zero responses, zero f/u. No emails, no return calls, no return texts from ANY of these case managers. The customer service reps from HQ are the ones who can get the ball rolling. Do not expect any Sunrun case manager to help you at all. It must be a really cush job with zero accountability so take note if you want to apply there for a job! Lol Finally got a team out in August to replace the dead battery. Dead optimizer was replaced the first visit in June 2025. Dead cellular has yet to be replaced. I will say this again, do not be fooled by the 25 year labor warranty for a leased system. Do NOT go with Sunrun, EVER. I went with them back when they were a Costco vendor before they got pulled out. Learn from my incredibly HUGE mistake. My parents went with Revolusun for their system this year. It's worth the extra upfront cost, and you get to keep all the tax credits and cashback refunds so you save more in the end (net after tax credits will cost them only 21k) for a 60k system. Do not get fooled by Yelp reviews from happy customers who've just installed a system. You need to research reviews that comment on the service/maintenance follow ups. I'd give this company 0 stars if that was possible. They came to my house to solicit. Fair enough. But I have a large no soliciting sign right as you enter the car park. When I engaged with the two employees and mentioned I wasn't interested and that I have a no soliciting sign posted one male ignored my response and continued to ask me questions. This company is so pushy on sales I had two different sales reps show up to my house twice in one months after I already told them we are not ready. Just goes to show they don't care about the customer nor do they keep track of who they already visited. They are just trying to push for sales out of greed. I have not seen any other solar company do such a thing and for that I will be doing business with a different company when we are ready and this company has a bad reputation anyway look at all the bad reviews. Additionally when I first met with one of the SunRun reps I mentioned how they have such bad reviews on Yelp and he said it was from the previous leadership that managed SunRun but that appears to be a lie from all the recent bad reviews this company just sucks! We decided to rent the unit after being sold on the idea that the batteries would automatically kick in to provide us with energy during a blackout. However, when we experienced our first blackout, we discovered that we had to plug our appliances into the battery to receive electricity, which was not what we had agreed to. Additionally, about four years into renting the unit, we noticed that the battery started to swell and eventually failed. It took them two months to come to our home and assess the problem. Their conclusion was that the battery for the entire unit was faulty. They first visited in March after the battery had gone down in November. Now, in September, my unit has been out of service for almost a year, and we are still paying monthly for a unit that is not functional. Initially, they informed me that they would not reimburse us for the months the unit was inoperable. However, after making multiple complaints, they agreed to refund us for those months--but only after a new unit, which I have been waiting months for, is installed. The moral of the story is to read the fine print, ask questions, and double-check everything when making a purchase. Remember that if your unit breaks down, you could end up waiting nearly a year for it to be repaired while continuing to pay for the service. read more

Today, 3 different salesmen (all in their early-mid 20's) came knocking at my door. The first was in the morning, then another guy came around 4 pm, then a third came when it was dark outside already - 6:30ish. I told each of them that I wasn't interested, and perhaps they should all communicate with each other so they don't bother the same address multiple times in one day. The first guy was nice enough, but the second guy seemed mentally unwell, and the third guy was borderline-harassment. You need to start training your employees on customer service and common sense. DO NOT USE SUNRUN. they installed additional panels to my existing panels with Tesla and they also installed 3 batteries. Sunrun's system they added has not been functioning properly for the last 5 months now. They been coming to repair just about every month. Been paying them $383/month but because their system has not been working, I also been paying HECO $425/month on the average. That's $2125 I have paid HECO in the last 5 months and all SUNRUN want to give me is a credit of $100. How is that fair to me or to anyone? A young guy knocked on my door Wednesday saying I called them (don't remember that), but I agreed to an appointment yesterday cause was having problems with PV monitoring. Gave him my phone number, email, and copy of a HECO bill. Arrived 45 minutes late - no call or email - but 2 guys showed up, so let the new, older guy continue - he did all the talking. They pitched the same thing the younger one did - Tesla battery with 10 year free renewal, additional panels, etc., it would only cost me $134/month. Like yesterday, asked to have all info emailed to me, so I could look at it more closely. He quickly told me "I'm not going to email this to you"! I didn't even know if I would live 10 more years! He arrogantly told me "you don't listen very well" but still smiling. That was the end of it. I told them, "not interested" - a couple times till they left. Sold me a system that was inadequate to my needs. Still paying HECO over $100 a month plus their lease of $231.60 per month. Averaging more than my previous HECO bill without solar. Ridiculous. Also had problem with battery failing within 2 months it was installed which they eventually replaced. The company failed to deliver their promise in saving me money. I am left with a system that is useless and they are benefiting from my solar incentives. read more

Have not used there service or panels but I find it odd that they have no local contact number, only a call center that can only take your information to purchase a system or as I was told "pre-qualify" you for a system. Also, they have uniformed employees roaming around the neighborhood hood trying to sell and solicit the systems EVEN after you say you're not interested. Worst part is they feel free to open gates to enter your property, UN-ANNOUNCED, putting themselves at risk of guard dogs and very angry AND uninterested homeowners. Do not do business with this company as it only encourages them to "drop in" and "enter" your property trying to sell something that you don't want. Both times this has happened, I as well as my neighbors found it suspicious that they only where the blue Sunrun polo, dark sunglasses and hats pulled down closely in an attempt to mask identity. Previous to the latest event, two "roaming solicitor's" wearing the same outfits were taking pictures of people's property and looking over fences. No business card, flyer, or clipboard. Just a cell phone and very suspicious behavior (entering people's property and taking pictures). In this day and age, if you look, act and behave suspiciously, you will get noticed and not in the way you expect or want. read more

I'm adding my name to a long list of unhappy Sunrun customers. The buyers of my home did not want to pay for the solar panels lease, so I purchased the panels outright. I notified Sunrun of my moving date and closed my contract. Three months later I received a bill (with a threat of sending it to collections) for the months service after I moved. it turns out it took Sunrun six weeks to post my payment and close my account. This company is horrible I purchased 30 solar panel's and two batteries for my house in 2020. Writhing two months the system went down batteries expanded which were not holding any charge. It took over 6 months to get them replaced, then couple months later the system went down again I was told it was operating correctly but at the main pose source it Wes reading malfunction. They came out again 2 months later which they changed the main system out then the batteries again weren't charging so they switched them out another 4 months later. When the power went out in our neighbor the batteries didn't kick on for the rims I requested so they came back out again to find out they didn't connect it properly. Now the system again went out as of two weeks ago where they now say they can come out at the end of October. Mind you ask this time I have paid my electricity bill and the loan for the solar panels which amount to about a thousand a month for the past five years. I NEED HELP!!!! I have had SunRun for several years now. While it system works it's great but SunRun promised to monitor & maintain my system which they have not done! my solar stopped working and they did not monitor nor did they inform me. I found out when I got a huge electricity bill!!! I called SunRun and can't get someone to even look at my system for a month! Thats just to look at it- last time they still needed to order parts. I have been waiting over 2 weeks (was promised 10min- 48hrs) for a supervisor to call me back to get me a sooner apt. I call costumer service regularly and no one can help me and the supervisor Andreas is always out of office for the day. When I ask who can help me with SunRun upholding their end of the contract they say to wait for the supervisor to call me back or they hang up on me. HORRIBLE!!!! Today I went to Lowes Waipahu and now their employees are pushing you to get Sunrun. Just tell them you already have solar with batteries to keep them from hounding you. One employee, has admitted that Hawaiian Electric is allowed by Sunrun to steal electricity and provide electricity when not needed. He looked at my app and told me see right there, your solar being produced has more than enough to recharge battery and cover house usage but look where it says grid. The grid is giving from the grid when it is not supposed to. The boy in the tool department told me it is also because Hawaiian Electric has to cover the Maui lawsuits. Now it is winter Sunrun is under producing and I have to pay a bill to Hawaiian electric and pay Sunrun's lease. COMBINED THERE IS NO SAVINGS. Do not get solar, it is a waste of money. I reported on Sep 12 that my power walls are not storing anything and was told to wait for 3 days while they check my system remotely. After 3 days no update and I have to call their support. I was told to set up an appointment and the earliest available is Oct 29 (which I took). Called them again and was promised that they will expedite my appointment. After 2 weeks and still no updates, I received two email that there is something wrong with my power walls and need to be replaced. To make matters worse is that I have to make another appointment for that. On Sep 30, called their customer service and I was told that the Oct 29 appointment is for "under performing" issue and the new appointment is to replace the power walls. I told them from the beginning that the initial issue was the power walls and why it got change to another issue. Poor customer service. They will promise you everything when they are convincing you to go solar. After that you are on your own misery. Think twice before going to them. read more
