The battery on the left has not lit up since 9/2024. Service tech coming 6/2025. I've been put on hold for more than 1 hr on the phone.

Writing this update after my experience getting a Tesla Powerwall 2 battery replaced: I caught the issue in April 4, 2025, Sunrun finally replaced the DEAD Tesla battery on August 11, 2025. The battery was dead since September 2024. Their system did not flag or monitor it. I had to call their Customer Service dept to request them to open a case 3 different times; 3 cases because Sunrun's incompetent, remote (mainland-based) case managers kept closing the work orders saying there was nothing wrong with my system (by running a diagnostic from their computers, hahhahhaha when I can clearly see the battery is dead and 2 different local service techs worked on the battery for 4 hours each visit and came to the same dead battery conclusion). SEPARATE CASE REQUESTS spanning the 4 months to get someone out to replace a clearly dead battery when they had plenty of new ones in stock in their warehouse ( I was told by the local field techs). All the local field techs are great! Plenty Hawaii born and bred. However, there are literally NO local Sunrun offices. Everything is farmed out to the mainland. So you're dealing with mainlanders assigned to your service/maintenance cases who never interact with you, never see your system, never interact with their Hawaii teams. I tried contacting each of the 3 different mainland case managers assigned to my dead battery issue. Through constant calls, follow ups, emails, I got their names, some emails, some phone numbers and I tried contacting and f/u with all 3 of them. Zero responses, zero f/u. No emails, no return calls, no return texts from ANY of these case managers. The customer service reps from HQ are the ones who can get the ball rolling. Do not expect any Sunrun case manager to help you at all. It must be a really cush job with zero accountability so take note if you want to apply there for a job! Lol Finally got a team out in August to replace the dead battery. Dead optimizer was replaced the first visit in June 2025. Dead cellular has yet to be replaced. I will say this again, do not be fooled by the 25 year labor warranty for a leased system. Do NOT go with Sunrun, EVER. I went with them back when they were a Costco vendor before they got pulled out. Learn from my incredibly HUGE mistake. My parents went with Revolusun for their system this year. It's worth the extra upfront cost, and you get to keep all the tax credits and cashback refunds so you save more in the end (net after tax credits will cost them only 21k) for a 60k system. Do not get fooled by Yelp reviews from happy customers who've just installed a system. You need to research reviews that comment on the service/maintenance follow ups. That's what differentiates the bad apples.

I was left with no service provider. I called a couple of companies and they either couldn't provide service or the information given was really no help. I called Independent Energy and Sean-Daniel listened to the issue I was facing and provided excellent care. There were a lot of hoops to clear but Sean-Daniel guided me through the whole thing. Then to top it off just as the Tesla battery was finally ready for replacement, my inverter stopped working. Through our communication, I simply asked if that was also something they could help me with also. I simply had to provide some information and they took care of the rest. I was kind of left on my own with the previous company, but Sean-Daniel and Independent Energy really guided me through the replacement process and took care of me even though they were not the original installers. If you ever get into a situation similar to mine or looking to get any kind of solar service, I highly recommend Independent Energy of Hawaii1

My project was the installation of a Tesla Powerwall and the addition of new panels to my existing solar system. Leit was responsive, professional, explained what was going on, and was honestly the only bright spot during the final part of the project. He deserves a lot of credit for stepping up and getting things finished. That said, the scheduling and communication around the final commissioning process were extremely frustrating. The appointment changed multiple times, and I was given conflicting information about when the crew would actually be coming. At one point, if I had not reached out to Leit directly myself, I would have been waiting around with no update. The Powerwall and added panels appear to be working properly now, and I appreciate the quality of the install, but the coordination and communication definitely need improvement. Leit was excellent, but the overall project communication could have been much-much better.

From the start…read moreJulian didn't come across as a typical sales rep at all -- he felt more like a knowledgeable industry expert who offered thoughtful, objective opinions about different technologies and brands. Before meeting him, I spoke with two other solar companies. One rep came on extremely strong and the meeting felt very sales-driven and impersonal, which made it hard to trust the information being presented. The other rep seemed to still be in training and had to run nearly every question through a senior colleague. Working with Julian was a relief. He's clearly experienced and communicates in a smart, casual, and very approachable way. We also had a great experience with Jelly and Brandi from the Solartech administrative team--they were easy to work with and helped keep everything moving smoothly. Solartech's digital quote platform made comparing options and selecting our plan simple and easy to understand. We ultimately decided against Tesla batteries after learning about potential overheating issues, which can be a concern in a place as hot as Hawaii. We went with Enphase we're happy with our choice. The installation team was excellent as well. Nainoa, the lead electrician on our project, is a total pro--easy to talk to, great at problem-solving, and he helped us quickly figure out a battery placement challenge. He completed the electrical work in just a few hours. During the panel installation, the crew accidentally drilled through part of our roof which caused a small leak, but they responded immediately and repaired it right away. Everything was patched up and looks good as new. We really appreciated how quickly they addressed the situation. Post-purchase support has been just as strong. I had some questions about how our system was pulling power from the grid, and Julian took the time to explain everything. It turned out to be more of a settings preference than an issue. He followed up with helpful explainer videos and even called a week later to make sure everything made sense. Overall, we're very happy with the experience and appreciate the professionalism, transparency, and support from the whole Solartech team.

When I first contacted them, they were very responsive, came out to our house multiple times to check it out, and even offered very reasonable and competitive pricing. Installation had a few hiccups because our house is old, weird, and probably very hard to work with, but we're very happy with our system. All the kinks that the team had to work through were fixed/solved in a very timely and quality manner. The only problem we had was getting updates between signing our agreement and installation. Understandably we waited pretty long to hear anything about installation due to the overload all solar companies were experiencing due to the federal tax credit being cut next year. Our drawings were back logged, not because of HI Power, but because of the approvals they were waiting for. But I had to reach out to multiple people at multiple times before someone could explain this to me. This really stressed us out for a bit that no one was getting back to us, but once they explained all the issues they were facing, everything worked out perfectly. I would still like to recommend this company compared to other bigger companies based off of my parent's and grandparent's experiences.

It took quite a while BUT in the end the work performed was done professionally and well. Much thanks to Zack for taking care of the initial request and getting the panels up to par. The sales person seemed pretty knowledgeable about both the product and the various options including Battery Bonus. He did a site survey, and confirmed my new equipment would fit into my desired enclosure. After paying my deposit, I received an initial design plan from them. I wanted to make some changes to the plan, which they quickly accommodated. They also submitted the plans electronically to DPP, and filled out and submitted the paperwork to HECO on my behalf. Couldn't have been easier, and took about 4 weeks. The coordinator sent a very complete outline of the various steps in the process, and an estimated time frame to complete them, so there was no surprises. My original panels had developed a squeak after many years of high winds; Haleakala came out and repaired the issue, including finding and fixing a crack in my Munir tile. My install was 2 weeks ago. The first day, they installed 9 new PV panels. The second day, they completed putting in the wiring and the new Tesla battery and gateway. About a week later, they returned to provision the entire system, which is operating now. Next step will be inspection and permit approval. I'm very happy with the sales process, design process, and installation so far. I have every reason to believe that they will handle the rest of the process shortly subject to when the inspector is available. My only issue to date has been that one of the circuit breakers they installed tripped the evening after the install. I submitted a second request for a call on September 16 and again received a message promising a response within 72 hours. Once more, no one contacted me. This lack of customer service has been a reoccurring issue with Haleakala Solar. When we first installed our PV system six years ago we had issues with our solar water heater.
