My wife and I went for dinner the other night. They were possibly over worked, or under staffed but service was poor. My wife had the Sunset Dip, she said it was tasteless, bland, nothing to write home about. I had the Reuben, the meat was over grilled to the point it was hard and dry. We also ordered the work tots. They arrived barely warm and were way too salty. The highlight of the dinner was one of the wait staff dropping a small bowl of catsup on the floor, coating my new pants and shoes with something that would have gone better with fries. That I can forgive and forget, gravity happens, but to server cold, over grilled, tasteless food is unforgivable. I don't think I will ever eat there again. read more

Had high hopes for this place based on the reviews while passing through Issaquah. Unfortunately there was nothing really setting it apart from any other burger and beer place. The food was not bad but nothing special about it either. Had the spicy Santa Fe Burger and it was ok. Not very spicy as most burgers in this area are not. I absolutely love Sunset and have deemed it my "Cheers" because I go here so much. The wait staff is awesome: Mel is by far my favorite but a close runner up is Chloe. Both of them show genuine enthusiasm to see me again, greet everyone I've brought with me wonderfully and treat us like old friends while allowing us to enjoy our meals/conversations. The food is incredible: I have taken about 15 different people here (I mean it when I say I go here a lot!) and there has never been a complaint about the food. My dad is a hot sauce tester for competitions and he raved about how good the 3 chili silly was, especially that he liked it was a rub, not just a sauce. The beer selection is great: They rotate beers pretty often and are great about providing suggestions and tastes if you're not familiar with a specific beer. Our beers are usually $5.75 so I'm not sure how people are paying so much for theirs since that's the price printed in the list on the tables. Brewers Nights: These are a blast. Most of the breweries do raffles with pretty legit prizes (not the cheap branded swag you'll throw away in a month, better quality and more unique!). These can get really busy so I'd suggest going there early and ordering as many beers as possible to earn those raffle tickets. (Then Uber home. #safetyfirst) I love bringing people here and can't recommend it enough! read more

I've been meaning to try this place and finally made my way in for dinner. It's interesting inside, kind of like a diner, bright lights and lots of booths. Very clean, I like that! The lights kept flickering while we were there, not sure if that was from the wind storm or they always do that, I'll find out next time. We started with the hummus which was excellent! It comes with a little bowl of feta and is served with warm pita bread, tomatoes, cucumbers and celery. It was a hearty plate full of food and delicious! I had the Italian Chicken sandwich. It was good, typical chicken sandwich, nothing special and a little dry. The fries were excellent! My friend had the philly cheesesteak with "wiz on the side". I didn't even know what they were talking about until it came out. There was a bowl of cheese sauce served on the side. Excellent for dipping the fries in! This sandwich was awesome, wish I had ordered it. Loaded with steak, melted provolone cheese, toasted baguette and served with au jus. And it was HUGE! Waitress was not a big fan of ours. I'm not sure why but it was apparent she didn't like us. It seemed like she wanted us to rush through dinner and I'm just not that type of person. She did come by 3 or 4 times and I wasn't ready to order but it was so quick between visits. We were talking and sipping our beer, glancing at the menu, taking it all in. Once we ordered food her attitude towards us changed a little, but I would hope not to sit in her section again. They have a huge beer selection. This place just doesn't hold a candle to the other breweries in the area. The issaquah brewery is accross the street and I prefer their beer selection and their food. Snoqualmie Brewery is just a quick jaunt up 90, and same story. Everything is just a ltitle bit "off" here. For example, the sauce served with the mozz sticks is more hot salsa than marinara. The quesadilla was decidedly un-cheesy. We tried a few different beers and none were particularly to our taste (and we are beer fans!). So *shrug* with other great options in the area, I just don't see us returning to this place. read more

O.K.I'm still underwhelmed by their taplist but I'm the Uber beer nerd. I want a Brouwers (or an Uber) in my neighborhood. But Alaskan Barleywine is no slouch. And they now often have JAKs level steaks on the specials. Sooo..I can get a JAKs steak with a decent beer pairing and not have to drop the coin on the good bottle of wine like I do across the street. Put the potato pancakes on the menu and gets the extra star. Summary: I'm happy to have Sunset Alehouse nearby. Blushing Bride and I have been here several times, and have mostly had positive experiences. The beer selection is pretty good and fresh tasting (doesn't go stale sitting in the lines between the keg and tap), and they rotate the selections frequently. Last weekend, I ordered a Sapphire Tonic - the tonic water they used was flat, so the drink wasn't very good. The Stella I ordered next was outstanding. Food here has been largely very good. The Sunset Burger is big and always has been good (just like they have across the street at Jak's). The "Keepin it Real" Burrito with steak and ordered wet is fantastic. They used to have a special Chicken Fried Chicken plate that was really good, but it was a limited time deal, so it's not there anymore...too bad. I had a dry and flavorless chicken sandwich burger thing a few months ago and won't order it again. I also tried the Reuben...which wasn't what I was expecting. Keep in mind, I used to travel a lot for work, so I know what a *real* east-coast deli Reuben should taste like - Sunset Alehouse's version was not quite what I expected. When you enter the Alehouse, the seating area immediately on the right is walled off with 3'-4' partitions (we call it the "kid pit"). Since the place is a bar, they have to provide a separate place for people with kids, hence the kid pit designation. You DO NOT want to sit there. Unfortunately, it's frequently full of families with rude, uncivilized child-creatures, screaming and running amok. Happily, due to WA state liquor serving laws, they're limited to this area, so the remainder of the ale house is pleasant. The people who work here really make the experience positive. Every encounter we've had here, from the manager, to the bartender, to wait staff has been positive. We will most certaily be back. read more

I was excited to try this place, hoping it would be Jak's Junior. Almost didn't find it as it's in an awful strip mall. By the looks of the place, I would not have guessed it was owned by the same company. The inside is similar in this way--pretty ugly decor and strip mall ambiance. Tons and tons of screaming kids, loud bad 80s music, and flatscreens everywhere. That said, the food's good. Anything made of beef is really high quality. Good service, cloth napkins, quality. I usually have very positive experiences here. The food is actually very good, the seasonal specials menu has some very unique and totally delicious items. In the fall I had the bratwurst with saurkraut, pretzel and spicy mustard; fantastically paired with an appropriate Oktoberfest style beer. Perfect. On the regular menu, the burgers and sandwiches are great, I really enjoyed the gyro, big tasty salads and the gumbo is really truly one of the best things I've had on a frosty winter night in the PNW. I haven't had anything here that I didn't like, bravo. For the food and beer, 5 stars easy. No faults there. Prices can be a little steep for what you're actually getting so maybe 4 stars instead. Sometimes the service is a bit... shakey. Its generally not a serious issue, and since Sunset is usually very busy when I go, any hiccups in service are totally understandable. Sometimes it's so busy that there's a wait approaching an hour, even to sit in the bar. But that's ok, as there's other restaurants within easy walking distance, and dozens more within a few minutes drive. So I wanted to give Sunset 4 stars, I really did. But my experience the last time I was there forced me to remove one. On July 7th one of my roommates and I decided that dinner and a few beers at Sunset sounded like a fantastic idea. Arriving shortly before 8pm the restaurant and bar were nearly empty, and we were promptly seated in a section with only one other occupied table, the area with booths to the left of the door. For the next 15 minutes we watched the servers, no idea which one was ours, socialize amongst themselves and with the 3 or so patrons seated at the bar. And serve the other 2 or 3 occupied tables. 15 minutes in a nearly empty restaurant with no contact, at all, from a server. Not acceptable. "F this" we said amongst ourselves, and walked out. Luckily the Issaquah Brew House is about a block away, we walked there, they were a bit busy, we were seated and had ordered our first of several rounds of beers within 5 minutes of walking in the door. read more

I dined here for a late lunch when Issaquah Salmon Days was going on. My friends who go Salmon Days every year suggested that we are better off dining here instead of having to pay and buy a lot of food to get full at the event. We got seated outside on a large plastic table and ordered drinks to start with. We got wrong drinks initially and had to get them replaced for the ones we actually ordered. I opted to order a salmon dish for an obvious reason and it was very soft and tasty. I also had a chance to poke some crispy cods on fish and chips and they tasted great too. On a side I also enjoyed their cole slaw. I think overall this is more of a place for locals to go for laid-back drink / dining and socialize with people who work here and dine here as I witnessed. I was very disappointed with this establishment. The staff does not tell you about upcharges. I had to wait 15 minutes for every mediocre drink I ordered much less any service at all. My appetizer came at the same time as my entree. I WILL NOT be back. The service staff is not attentive and they take advantage of customers who do not know of upcharges. I ordered a double vodka cran and they didn't bother to tell me it would be a $20 drink. For mediocre service and okay-at-best food, I would 10/10 not recommend at all. I don't like giving one star to many places, but this experience (as well as my previous ones here) was horrible. read more

This is a tough one to review. The food has always been good and they have a great beer selection. The service, UGH, the service here is usually very poor! They have one kid there that hustles it but the others couldn't be bothered to wait on you. They love to hang out behind the bar chatting and the older taller gentlemen is less than pleasant. Not sure if he is a manager or what but he is horrible! Like I said it's tough as we are limited to how many places there are within walking distance to downtown. Once again I have to sing praises of the Sunset Ale House. My favorite server, Tracy, constantly has amazing recommendations and has never, ever steered me wrong. Honestly, she's hit the jackpot with jobs, as I don't think they could possibly have a bad item on their menu. My new personal favorites on the menu are the gyro, the grinder, the turkey/bacon sandwhich, the burrito, and now the tuna melt and the southwest chicken salad (which you can get as a 1/2 salad added to any entree for $3 and it's worth it). Also, it's important to note that they've infused certain JaK's menu items in to their daily menu, so your appetite can be served from sandwhiches to steaks to salads. One of my personal favorite add-ons is that you can add potato pancakes to any lunch entree for $1. They're to-die-for. This is now my go-to location for client lunches and get togethers. I personally find it one of the best is Issaquah for a casual dining restaurant. Go and enjoy! read more

This an easy place to get together after riding bikes in the area and can pretty much appease anyone in the group. We end up here almost weekly and has been the best option we've found in Issaquah. My partner & I are gluten free and prefer to eat vegetarian a portion of the time. Yay! They have one gluten free beer on the menu: Greens Amber...which is good, especially since they consistently serve it at the perfect cold temperature to be most refreshing! They have a cider but the wait staff doesn't know what style it is and didn't offer to find out so I am not sure which Angry Orchard Cider they are serving. I wanted to request to them to maybe offer up a couple other options of both...if you're listening: Harvester's Dark Ale & Omission's IPA would be great beer additions; if you are not already serving up a dry cider-one of the many dry cider options would be fantastic! The food has been consistent and offers enough choices to keep everyone happy. You can pick apart several menu options to create a good gluten free vegetarian meal. I have had the burger sans the bun and they are very good as well. And when you want to indulge in some good junk food of the fried variety they serve tater tots! Again if you're listening....maybe add some Udi's bread as an option for burgers and sandwiches?? The slaw sounds more appealing than it actually is, missing the zest advertised. I haven't had it due to the roux but many have been very pleased with the gumbo. When we are indulging in a gluten free meat dish the Carne Asada with Chimchurri is excellent. It is a bar, so you are blasted with loud televisions...but what you gonna do?? It's a great place for friends to share food and libation. read more

I enjoy this Alehouse because it's conveniently close to work and I enjoy a cheat day away from my cardboard Lean Cuisine every now and again. I've ordered take-out and sat down and ate in the restaurant as well. I will warn you, service is really slow in the restaurant. My favs on the menu is the Caesar salad (man, it is spicy and DELICIOUS) and the Italian Chicken Sandwich. Everything on the menu is decent priced which keeps me coming back. Give this place a try. When the Livingsocial deal popped up, I immediately bought the max (2). Finally got to use one of them recently and really enjoyed it. I'm at Sunset whenever work conditions permit. Their happy hour is the best in Issaquah. It's slightly early (4:00-5:30pm), but worth skipping afternoon meetings for. ;) Sunset boasts a surprisingly large and constantly rotating beer selection. It's not uncommon to see "deeper cuts" from Maritime Pacific and Schooner Exact on tap. Food is slightly better than your typical bar fare. If you're there for happy hour, try the gumbo. Atmosphere is loud (music or TVs playing sports), but still relaxing. Service is usually fantastic at the bar, but can be EXTREMELY slow in the dining area. If you're looking for quick eats before a hike or a movie, this probably isn't your spot. But if you're looking for a spot to relax with friends, Sunset is great. read more

We frequent Sunset Alehouse a couple times a month. Their servers are always so fun and friendly, which makes the experience a nice one. I have always had a great meal here. I love their French dip and literally drink the leftover au jus because it is so good! My daughter loves the steak sandwich so much, rare and red. Their prime rib chili is absolutely amazing, and a weekend soup- so of course I have to go on a weekend now and then. This is a fabulous neighborhood spot, we go with our daughter or with couples. Jak's is our favorite restaurant in Issaquah, so as soon as we heard about Sunset Alehouse, we had to go. Like Jaks' the ambience is only so-so. To be fair, it's an alehouse and not fine dining. Nevertheless, it's a bit loud and boisterous for a restaurant that uses cloth napkins for lunch. That's a minor criticism though because we absolutely loved the food. There is nothing innovative about the menu, but everything is made really really well. To begin with, we got chicken strips from the children's menu. The two-piece was only $5, so we figured it must be tiny and ordered the three-piece for $7. I was shocked when a towering plate came out, easily enough for an adult. The chicken was so good that my son didn't even want to eat the fries, which never happens. I got the gumbo, which was excellent. At first, I thought it was a little bit watery, but then I dug down to the bottom of the cup and found what I was looking for. We also got nachos topped with steak. Unlike most restaurants, the steak was actually steak cut into small precise pieces. We all agreed that it was simply delicious. For the main entree, I got the mushroom swiss burger. Like the sandwiches that we ordered, it looked like it had some kind of custom bun. The burger was really messy, but wonderful. My wife was so full from the nachos that she took her sandwich home. Finally, they did make a mistake by bringing my wife a gyro instead of a grinder. We were so happy with the meal by then that we were happy to take that home. However, we were surprised when they brought out a grinder anyway and let us keep the gyro as well. The service throughout the meal was consistent and excellent. Besides the ambiance, the only other thing that we can complain about is that the food came out a bit slowly. However, we are happy to wait if it comes out with such high quality.
