On Thursday my transmission gave out so I decided it was time for a new rig. The requirements were simply, everything I had from my Denali but newer and reliable. So I only made one pass through in the parking lot at their Puyallup location. Saw the vehicle I wanted the and the rest was easy. Mike Jones we able to relate, speak freely and I didn't feel like I was in a high pressure sales dealership which I have in the past. Not only did they work with me on the price and resolving some issue I had with the vehicle their finance person, Marissa, was great with my kids when we went back to fill out the paperwork. I've been one of those folks that have spent 5 hours closing and I knew what I wanted and didn't want. Made my experience much better. Sunset Chevy is a complete ripoff, be very careful when dealing with this company. I was sold a vehicle and bought an extended warranty, was told that the warranty would extend past the 100,000 mile "normal" warranty, but guess what, once that milage was hit, it was a complete hands off approach by the dealership. I called everyone from the dealer who sold it to me, to the general manager of the whole company and was told "sorry, you should have asked that question when you bought that" Which I stated I did, and was told different. Worst service dept experience ever!!! First let me preface, my husband and I have purchased several vehicles from Sunset and referred some friends who purchased a truck. We took our 2020 Tahoe that we bought new from Sunset in for a regular oil change last week. I have only ever had this vehicle touched by their dept. I let them know when booking that it was randomly having issues starting when pressing the start button so we scheduled to have it looked at the same time. They informed me, even though we paid extra for the extended warranty and 40k miles we would be charged $180 to look at it and diagnose for mechanics time. To be fair, I agreed (though I wasnt sure why this wouldnt be under warranty). I just wanted to figure out why it was doing this since we were already there. We dropped it off last tues and was told to call the following day around 3pm. When I called, I spoke with the service mgr Matt who said they couldnt find anything and would call back when oil change was done. I called my husband at work and he had questions so he then called and left a msg for Matt so he could find out what things they did to look for the problem to get better understanding. No call back. We then get a text from Matt around 5pm that car is ready for pickup so we rushed down there from Gig Harbor. When we get in the door I could sense that Matt already had a chip on his shoulder (maybe he was having a bad day). My husband already had his card out to pay then asked Matt what items were checked so we could understand the $180 price tag better and his comment was it was for his guys time (fair enough)..but again my husband asked "but what did you do though?" and he then pushed the paperwork at my husband and said "read" with a smirk on his face and attitude. We are very fair people and value peoples time. It wasnt about the $, but the principal because he then said they drove it around the block and it started no problem. Right there we caught Matt in a lie because we informed him we have the onstar smart driver app which is very detailed and shows time stamps, dates, mph and the mapping of when and where the car moves...it had not moved since we dropped it off the day before. Matt then got even more defensive and said he didnt want to deal with us. He took at as us yelling at him and said he had been yelled at all day by customer's and definitly wasnt going to be yelled at by us. I was so embarrassed and in utter shock at the disrespect he was giving us when we were trying to get an understanding (definetly no yelling involved) of what had been done to find the problem. We felt like all they did was turn the start button on then off and wanted to scam us out of $180. He said we were not valuing his mechanics time. This is beyond not who we are. We never mind paying for a service. My husband asked if he checked the starter because he had a mechanical background and was a little familiar and Matt's response was "cool". I butted in and told him I couldnt believe he was treating us this way when we have purchased several vehicles, referred and only taken our car here and he says to me"cool, we are a different dept."I was litterally shaking when we left and my husband was pissed. We never mind paying the $180 and definetly value people's time, mine included. We only wanted to understand what was done which was more than a fair question, because to be honest we felt we were getting scammed. I cant believe he is a manager too! Our friend who purchased a truck from them and picked up earlier in the day for a service said the same about their dealings with him. This is not how customer's should ever be treated. I don't care if the service dept is a different dept..they are a reflection of Sunset. Funny thing is, I always get a survey sent to me after every service...oddly enough not this time. We will be purchasing a new truck before end of the year and this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and will be going elsewhere. Try some Kindness and compassion Matt! read more

Brought my Chevrolet Silverado in because of a check trailer brake light... this is a 2017 with 50k miles... after 100$ diagnosis fee it turns out it needs a new trailer brake module which is easily accessed under the spare tire. 1100-1200$$$ for them to complete this job. I said no thank you. Talked to another auto repair shop and it turns out Chevy has to program the module so there's no getting around it. However this mechanic suggested contacting gm to see if there's anything that can be done on their end. I did this and opened up a claim with GM and after 2-3 weeks of talking to people on the phone they decided to cover 2/3rds the cost leaving me with only 3-400$$$ plus the 100$ I'm out for the diagnosis fee. Sunset then contacts me we schedule an appointment. I show up drop my truck off at 730am and go about my day as I scheduled a ride to pick me up. At 1030 I get a call saying there was a mistake and they don't actually have the brake module... it's on back order and they don't even have an estimated time of when they will get it, so I can come come get my truck that's still not fixed. I guess the majority of my frustration stands in two places. One is this part is easily accessed and replaceable after lowering the spare tire it's literally two screws and disconnecting wire harness... you need less skills to do this then change oil, but because the part needs to be "flashed" the dealer has to do it which equals in my case about $500.00. Second is the overall lack of service- from the phone calls to service department, the standing around waiting to be helped, to the appointment that should've never even been made because they don't have the part. Do yourself a favor and buy a ford. read more

Service is excellent! Brought in my 2008 Impala to get the recall service on the ignition and keys. They gave me the info I needed, such as how long I could expect to be there and what to bring (all of my sets of keys for that car). I also purchased my first car from Sunset over a decade ago, and it is nice to see that their high service standards haven't changed at all. The service center people are polite to deal with, speak to you in English, and explain everything that you need to know when you come in. I really appreciate that they are my local dealership and would always choose their service folks over other dealerships in the future! read more

Salesman Sean Stead really took the time to listen to what I needed and thoughtfully provided knowledgable answers to my myriad of questions. Jake and Craig went above and beyond. My husband and I have thrown around the idea of trading in our manual 2012 Chevy Cruze for something automatic for the last year or so - however after all of the extended warranties we had purchased and the GAP insurance we were upside down and it didn't make any sense for us. Jake called me on Thursday letting me know about the great rebates that they have right now on the Cruze and said that he could likely get us out the door with a brand new 2015 model with no down payment and they would apply our warranty buybacks to the purchase m- all without drastically changing our payment. He invited us in over the weekend to take a look at what they had. Fast forward to Saturday. We walked in about 20 minutes after opening and just a couple hours later were the proud owners of not a 2015 but a 2016 Chevy Cruz. It is more than we even hoped for - the features on it are unbelievable and we have an automatic again! While we were waiting for our turn with financing the guys even got us breakfast sandwiches from McDonalds. You can tell they care about their clients. The financing process was incredibly smooth for a Saturday and we drove home in our brand new car with a very minimal change to our current payment. Starting over at brand new with a lifetime powertrain warranty and 10 year/100,000 mile warranty is a HUGE relief as we REALLY used our warranties on our previous car. We couldn't be happier with our new car and I am super impressed that the guys took the time to call us just to make our lives easier! I love my truck it's a 20 year dream to own a full size truck! Just got a door slammed into my "corvett" my brand new 3500 just put the plates on! Needless to say I was really upset. So I called Roman my salesman to see what they could do for me as far as reference to get it fixed. It is obvious that he truly cares not only about you as a person, but in benefiting the world every day that he can. I had a battery that kept going dead even though it was only a couple of months old. It had been replaced 3 times. I was told and told Sunset that it was probably the analog onstar gps that kept searching for a satellite. Instead of checking that out they replace a cable to the battery. Said it was corroded. I took the car home and it happened again. When I called them three more times telling them the problem was not resolved they never got back to me. I ended up going to Cox Chevrolet who listened and disconnected the onstar. Problem resolved. read more

I will never recommend this dealership to anyone. I was double teamed when I came in by 2 salesmen that promised me everything I asked for. Some small stuff, some not so small. I bought the vehicle July 31 and I'm still working through the details. I've left messages with a manager that didn't get returned. I do deal with one salesman that keeps telling me he would have someone call me. And that's been going on since I bought the truck. It took them a week to put sidesteps on and were supposed to replace the windshield at the same time. I was called and told the vehicle was done, so I drove all the way there and the windshield was not replaced. There are streaks on the drivers door that I was told would be rubbed out, nope!! Then I was told that I'd be getting around 500.00 back from the lender of my trade in. It also was written on my contract how much they sent. I'm supposed to get 408.00 back and I've yet to receive a call from the finance person. My salesman keeps telling me that he'll call me. I've tried to call that department and can't even leave a message. The 2 salesmen had me convinced my trade in wasn't worth anything, that nobody would be interested in it. Come on!! It's a really nice 2017 XC 90 with only 25,000 miles on it. What a fiasco!!!! There's more but my fingers are tired. Because of the dirty dealing and lack of response and the misinformation I was given, the credit union I used is going to do an investigation. Other complaints have prompted as well. read more

This is the third time in a row that I've brought my vehicle in and had it come out with more issues than when it went in. 1st time: differential bolts were loose and the seal was re-used. Found it leaking after 20 miles. 2nd time: had the rotors ground down to reduce vibrations and it the truck came back with a loud clicking noise every time I stepped on the brakes. 3rd time: brought in for an oil change and tire rotation and now the tire pressure sensors don't work. read more

They then said they said they would finance my boyfriend and not me. No, I need to be on my car I am paying for. I kept getting the run around BS from them that they are not in, waiting on a bank...blah blah blah. I said well if it is NO please tell me so I can use the money I saved for a down payment to repair my unsafe car (brakes bad). This review is for the Pre-Owned car sales at Sunset Chevrolet in Summner. I had a great experience with buying a vehicle from them about 9yrs ago, and decided to go back. Everything was going well with my current purchase, until I went to recieve the car. Thats when I found out that it was missing a key fob. Might not sound like a big deal, but its a $500 key fob, which will require programming. When I addressed the issue, the response was " its a used car"(mind you its 1yr old)....not the right answer. It came from the factory with two, it should be disclosed early in negotiations that it was missing. I did test drive the vehicle, and noted mentally that it had a 1/4 tank of gas. When I recieved it, it was less than an 1/8 tank....my frustration was peaking. The sales staff that I was working with knew that I drove an hour and a half away, but didnt ensure that there was sufficent gas in the car to get me down the road. The gas light came on as i was about 1/2 mi from the dealer. I recieved a phone call when I left from my salesman when I was driving away to see what it was I was angry about. He did take ownus of the situation with the key fob, and promised me a fob upon tag delivery. I expressed my displeasure about the fuel level, and his response was " we are a chevy dealer, not a chevron". Sooo, If this is the way that you want to be treated as soon as your papers are signed, go there. I have had two bad experiences since buying my car here. First they messed up my paperwork in financing making it so we got Denied our loan after we had already taken the car home....we had to return again to rectify it. Second we were told repeatedly during our sales process that we would get lifetime oil changes, apparently that was a lie. They told us at our first oil change that they do not do them for Toyota's and their sales people would never say that...it was my fault for assuming and obviously a misunderstanding. I brought my H2 Hummer into Sunset Chevrolet. The attendant was a gentleman by the name of Eli's. I was having issues with my transmission. He told me that they do internal work on transmissions it would be no problem to have it looked at. At the end of the ordeal he wanted to replace the complete transmission with a new transmission instead of rebuilding the one I had. All I got was a diagnostic and two day rental on a rental car. 228.00 bill and no work. I do not recommend they for transmission work. read more

Meet your new best friends at the car dealership! BE WARNED nobody here is your friend. They have one goal and that is to squeeze as much money out of you as possible. We bought a used vehicle that was over priced by at least 4K for. We also got dooped into financing an extended warranty. It's hard to see the EXACT same model and year with the same mileage at another dealer for way less after the fact. Their "transparent" pricing is a ruse. They play with numbers and your emotions make you think your getting a deal. "What can we do to sell you a car today" means sign the contract before you find the better deal down the road. They also didn't follow through on transferring some special license plates over to the new car like they said they would. I fully understand that this is my doing and I should have walked away the second I felt uncomfortable and YOU SHOULD TOO! After talking to Dave Hill for a while with texts and phone calls the car was still on the lot he went and looked I quickly realized This company is not honest and was way to eager to sell me a car that was a red flag already since I talked to Dave three other people have gotten a hold of me trying to make a sale Dave is very pushy and will not leave you alone even after I told him the payment was to much for me right now maybe in the future. Then turns around and texts this He texted me why are you not telling me what you want for your trade your being really evasive with a simple question because if I give you what you want for your trade right now you don't need to sell it on your own I told him what I want and he still didn't honor it I don't know why he even asked he likes to talk but dosent listen .He even asked what do I what the payment to be this went on and on for a while until the manger texted me and I told him I don't want to do business with you I will take my business else where. And even after he still texted me he just won't leave it alone .Thank God I didn't go there after reading the reviews they have more bad then good I'm done I will sell my car to a private owner and get more then they would of ever offered me in saying that read the reviews and search around and be wise before you go buy a new car or used one and do much needed home work before hand. Beware of false information just to get you into the store. I drove there from seattle (1 hr) with checkbook in hand to buy a car. The salesman confirmed in an email that the vehicle I was interested in had leather seats. When I got there the seats were not leather, but in fact leatherette, which is essentially vinyl. I had one really bad experience here awhile back where the finance guy kept calling me too come resign my paperwork, not making it seem like the price was changed. He even said he would come too my work too sign, that's where I should have known things were fishy, but I thought oh maybe it's a better deal. Well I went and resigned no one was there when I went in so I just signed it looked like it was just switched too a different bank... then I was sent too collections cause I owed sunset more money plus my initial loan. Um wtf? Why wasn't this told too me the day I bought my vehicle, or even on the phone when they told me too come resign. Shady shit. Secondly, I was looking for another used vehicle more recently, and found one online here-called too ask for the price. I had the vin number and was able too look up the price new, and they priced it over what the vehicle was sold for brand new. And they admitted too this and didn't care. My experience with Sunset has been horible!! I first went to them to lease a car and traded in the car I had. Not long after I received a toll bill when I did not have possession of the car traded in. Several years later I take that car back (lease is up) I go to lease yet another car and same thing happened!! I call Sunset and they tell me they can not help me and for me to call GM!! I try going through GM and fax them paperwork they requested and get another toll bill with a reprocessing fee on it. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH SUNSET because they have no problem getting you into a car but then you do not matter as a customer after that! Their follow up and customer service is horrible. The warranty is NOT what it says it is. They assured me of their great reputation and how long it has been a family business. One month after I purchased it they sold to another company.sandywerner123@yahoo.com I called to get a mobile mechanic out they promised to me only to find out he doesn't do that. They are crooks! Now it is 4 months later and I'm fighting to get plates for it. I've never even had any phone call to get it. It has all had to be my initiation. Great place to call the Better Business Bureau about.
