Love love love this place! Only one thing that keep me from giving this place 4 stars. There was an hour wait because the party I was with was trying to eat and catch the sunset at the same time (no doubt busiest part of the day). However, our one hour wait was filled with fun as we played corn hole in the sand, chilled out in lounge chairs, walked along the docks, and enjoyed the pool area. Food was great too, I had the Atlantis sushi rolls I would highly recommend them. Also, multiple of my friends had the Big Wave Burger and spoke very highly of it. The only thing that I did not enjoy was the wait for our food. Granted, I was with a large party, but the food took an hour maybe 90 minutes to come. Besides that, this place is a must go when you are down in Marathon. :) read more

I'm giving this a 1, only because I believe it deserves a 1... Lets talk about the service... Shitty. Sad. Depressing. Our waiter, was a sad-sap. He mumbled with every detail and failed to be an enjoyable waiter. When asking about the best meals on the menu, he decided to name all of the most expensive meals and also had no background on why they were the best. Only that they were expensive. The night was running down, and so were our drinks. My family (of six people) all had empty drinks from our long wait, and after our waiter taking an order on the table behind us, and certainly noticing that they we were dry, he failed to ask if we would like a refill. THAT'S A NO NO. Because we were a party of six, and entitled to a 18% gratuity, he seemed to care less about the way he served. I was incredibly disappointed at this and he most certainly knew that we seemed this way. The Food... Lets just say mediocre. I wouldn't pay 20.00 for a roll of sushi that is as warm as Rudolph's Nose... For one of the only sushi places on the island, this was a sad disappointment. As for the food entrees, if you want a good solid meal, save your money and gas and go to Burdines a mile North on US-1. You'll be way more satisfied with the friendly service and the outstanding food, and the incredible view from the second story. read more

Come to this place a lot with my family when we visit. Great environment for all members of the family, there is a big pool and little beach-like area with cornhole and some other games. The view of the sunset is the second best in the keys (besides Mallory square in key west) and the seven mile bridge is right there and you can drive there by boat. This place is the spitting image of what you think the keys should be like. The service was pretty good, but the food did take a very long time but at least we had various activities to do while you wait. My burger was very good, and the daiquiris were fruity and delightful. This is a wonderful bar and grille. We came here last night at 5 minutes to 10pm. We had missed the turn to the restaurant and ended up driving on 7mile Bridge. We turned around finally and made it to the restaurant. Sharon, the bar tender was friendly, talkative and welcoming. The kitchen was accommodating to our request of a Cobb Salad with blackened Mahi. Decided to do something different today rather than go out boating to our sandbar in Islamorada. hit the road south and saw the Sunday Funday sign on the side of the road at the seven mile bridge in Marathon great choice to my surprise place was packed live music by the pool great view of the bridge and Sombrero light house. We sat at the inside bar where we had great service by Kevin, Carry and the owner John cooking and mixing drinks pool side for as packed as they were they were on it food was all some drinks were cold and perfect will definitely make this place at least once a month. This place is at a great location next to a bridge right on the water. Unfortunately, our server Peggy was terrible. It took her over 10 minutes to come to our table and we were a party of 9 and it took 5 minutes to bring drinks and she only brought drinks for 2 people. She also forgot a drink for a child we had in our party who should've been her first concern. After it took 40 minutes to order appetizers and get them, she asked if we were ready to order and we all said yes and then she walked away. We said "Peggy" loud and clear and she just ignored us and kept walking. 10 minutes later she came over and finally took our order. We complained and got the local discount which was $20 off of $275. We went for breakfast. The view was amazing, the food was average, our waitress was great, but they get one star because we saw one of the waiters dumping all the left over beverages into the ocean. My children and I visited Sunset Tuesday, the service was slow, the food was amazing.

We went for the New Years Eve Celebration, made reservations for 7pm. I was so excited to go back as we were here two years ago and really enjoyed it. This time was very different. When the reservations were made we had asked to sit by the pool, as we had kids in our party, when the reservations were made we were told that could happen. We were not pool side. When the reservations were made we were not told that we would have to be moved from our table as there were other reservations for our table coming in at 9pm. Again, this was not told to us when we made the reservation. We were a group of 12 and all of us ate the $30+ special New Years Eve Menu. I ordered a plate of the oysters to start (outside of the NY offering) they were small, somewhat warm not as good as places in the Midwest which makes you wonder. Our food came in shifts, half the table received their soups, and salads while the other half of the table had to wait an additional 10-15 min to get their soup or salad. This was a common theme for the entire dinner service. Dinner came out. I had the filet mignon offering. It was cold, the vegetables were cold and the mashed potatoes were cold. Others at the table had the same experience with this dish. The Seafood Paella was ordered by some at the table. That was the only thing that came out hot. Sadly, it had maybe 5 pieces of seafood in there and it tasted bland. One couple at the table had ordered a Sunset Grille Sushi Roll, the first one came out and he said it was delicious. They ordered another one and it basically came out with his dessert. Others ordered the lobster tail, it was cold and dry, and served with the cold vegetables and potatoes. Just terrible. When my husband asked why so many things came out cold, the waitress asked if she could get us another glass of wine. I know the waitress was slammed busy, she would drop off food and then we would not see her for a bit. So it really was not an option of us sending our food back...we came hungry and we wanted to eat. Dessert: The offering was either some kind of chocolate cake thing or key lime pie. Of course being in the Keys most of us ordered the key lime pie. If this is the key lime pie that they serve all the time...save your money. It looked and tasted like a jello brand quick bake pie....terrible! I had many other visions of how it was going to taste and look like before it came to the table and sadly it was very disappointing! The chocolate offering was terrible as well. I can't really describe it but it looked disgusting on the plate and tasted awful. All in all, I was not impressed this time around. Everything was terrible. I was told during my stay in Marathon that there had been an ownership change and it showed. Our tab was over $200 for dinner and we walked away disgusted. I don't even want to get into how my stomach felt at 4am. I am not sure what has really happened here or if they were just too busy for New Year's Eve etc. This was our only visit to this restaurant during our stay in Marathon and I can tell you we will never go back for the food, maybe a cocktail but NOT the food. read more

I have eaten at Sunset several times and felt like it was a good experience. We even had family come in and we ate our Christmas dinner there. My last time however changed my mind. After we were seated the waiter sprayed and wiped down the table. I was carrying a purse that was new and it had spots across it from the bleach water that the table was cleaned with. The wind had blown it on my purse. We went straight home from eating so I didn't notice the spots until we were home. We were having a late lunch and wanted to do some shopping afterwards. We had to skip shopping due to the time it took to get our food. Everyone around us that came in after we did were getting their meals and finishing when our waiter came back. He said he had mistakenly thrown away our order. He said he felt bad about it and lunch would be at no charge. When we finished he did bring us our check. A friend was with me and reminded him that he said there would be no charge because of how long we had to wait. He then took the check back but we could tell he wasn't very happy about it. We were there for over 2 hours just for lunch. I did call the manager at Sunset and told them about the experience. She was very nice and apologized. She said she would tell her manager and someone would get back with me. I never heard from anyone there. Between my purse, the time it took to get our meals and no one even calling back I won't be going there again. read more

By far my favorite place to eat on Marathon and maybe in the Keys. I loved sitting outside between the ocean and the pool. It's right by the 7 Mile Bridge so make sure you don't miss the road to the Sunset Grille or you'll have 7 miles where you cannot turn around and end up driving 14 miles extra for food. Of course we didn't do that...ok, yes we did. :) All food (mmm Snickers pie for dessert) was top notch as well as the many drinks we sampled. read more

My two friends and I went there twice while on vacation- the ocean isn't their friend, so I kept them company at the Sunset Grille. YOU HAD ME AT POOL. View was spectacular. Food was okay, but not great. The service was terrible. Waiter brought me the wrong dinner. He said "oops I think that was my fault". A half a hour later I finished my meal BY MYSELF. Still no drink. My wife finally complained and asked for some kind of compensation. Boy, you would have thought we asked for the moon. They knocked off 15% and made us feel like we were robbing them! STILL NO DRINK. "Manager " said I'll comp. your drink. No thanks. I watched the bartenders for an hour. They were slow at best and spent all their time tending to the customers at the bar. We arrived at 4:30 and at 6:30 the "manager " showed up with the drink. The happy hour menu is more than most to make everyone happy. The food was great no one in our party had any complaints. The service was good. The night before our server was sub par to say the least but it was busy to his defense. The next day we had the same server and he was great. Might have been a bad day for him who knows. I get this is the keys and we are on vacation but really? This dinner turned into an almost three hour event. It took 20 min to get a check after we asked at 9pm. Great place for a cool happy hour , excellent raw / steam bar - peel and Eat shrimp are fantastic, as are raw oysters, and steamed clams- yellowtail sandwich and voodoo grouper also worth the trip. It's a tourist trap!! The restaurants location is the only thing keeping the place open. The wait staff needs work. The ones we ran across it seemed like they needed to change careers as they weren't happy, were slow to take orders, and bring drinks. The drinks I am sure have got to be watered down! We had a few mudslides in 85 degree heat and didn't even catch a buzz! Or they just don't out all of the alcohol they're supposed to in them. The pool is an awesome idea, loved that. read more

Our dinner wasn't amazing, but our (pina colada frozen fuzzy chocolaty in a fun cup) drinks were the best we had on our trip. I was going to give this place 2 stars, but honestly, it's 3 because of what it is. If you drive by this place, or walk in and don't realize that it's a typical "tourist trap" restaurant and bar, you had it coming. We stopped by this place last minute before a kayaking trip because it was close to our kayaking destination, and we knew it would probably be "ok" enough to stop for a quick bite. We went around 4pm so we missed the lunch menu (which looked better than the dinner menu). We sat in the main portion of the restaurant under the tiki hut, not by the pool. There was a live DJ but the music was ridiculously loud. I think they could easily tone it down just a bit and still have people happy. I have zero idea as to why you'd have a pool at a restaurant. I've seen some people on these reviews say it's good for their kids, but I mostly saw a bunch of tipsy/drunk college aged kids in the pool, and I would sort of worry about sanitary conditions between kids and drunk folks, plus booze and food. But if a pool while eating makes you happy, this is your joint. Our waitress was definitely not the best. I'm sure she's a great person, but she was pretty short with us, seemed annoyed the entire time, and seemed rather busy (and if i were her, I'm sure I'd be the same way with crazy loud music all of the time). We both ordered a burger because it seemed fast. Shockingly, the burgers were actually very well cooked, and nicely seasoned, as were the fries. I do say shockingly, because it's not what we were expecting at all considering the other reviews on this place and the service we encountered. That being said, I wouldn't go back, because it's not somewhere I'd normally eat. The menu was too big to be fresh in my opinion, i could be wrong. There was also a ton of sushi options on the menu which struck me as odd. IF you like loud music, dancing, a live DJ and a pool and just want to go somewhere and hangout, I'd be willing to wager you'll love this place. read more
