Sunset Grill Marathon For many years, I have enjoyed going to this restaurant because it's right on the water, it has a swimming pool and the food was good. However, we went yesterday mid afternoon, and the service was not good. Our waitress really didn't know the answer to questions and didn't say let me check. Two of us ordered french fries and one ordered coleslaw. All three of us ended up with french fries. Two of us ordered the hogfish lightly blackened, and in my opinion, it was more Caribbean jerk seasoning, and it was not light at all, so it totally overwhelmed the fish. Can't say at this point, I will go back

a big meh in the food department. Over priced for the quality you receive. The Ahi was not local- they source it from northern FL, why? Blackened mahi was red? lol I hate to be picky about small stuff but little details matter and when you're surrounded by fisheries and fresh fish- why are you not sourcing your fish from local fishermen!? BUT I digress - The service is so S L O W! And not because they're busy but because people genuinely just don't want to work here I swear. Drinks were good, the pool outside and the seating around it was nice, sunset was nice but woooof maybe come to get a drink and then hightail ya booty elsewhere to get food ;-)

Our restaurant in Isla Resort was full so we went next door to check out the sunset! Casual dining. Service was good but kitchen and bar gets backed up due to the amount of orders going in. Very busy place for sure. The server Chris kept us informed. The food was ok. Calamari and curry sauce. Sea Bass and Miso Appetizers to start. I ordered the Cobb Salad with grilled chicken, wow the salad was amazing, so much food and three blue cheese dressings! All ingredients were very fresh. My guest had the Crab cakes which were "ok". I had a Corona and he had the frozen Mango mocktail. Finished with a key lime pie. It did taste store bought not homemade. The view of the swimming pool and sunset was awesome!

Delicious food. Everything was really, really good. The ambiance is quite nice too. They don't take reservations, but we (party of 11) came in around 5 pm on a Sunday during Memorial Day weekend and were seated almost immediately. The huge drinks were really fun too, and you get to keep the cup!

Good spot overall! The food was good and my boyfriend said his meal was really good too. Service was decent and the location by the bridge was really cool. Just a heads up -- if you're looking for more of a relaxed dinner restaurant vibe, definitely choose inside seating. Outside had more of a lively pool party atmosphere with the pool right in the middle of the deck area. There were lots of kids and even adults running around in wet swimsuits, which we didn't really expect for dinner, but it was totally fine once we realized the vibe. Overall still a fun place to check out with good food and a cool location! Also blurred/took people out of the photo for the review post just to better show the atmosphere and setup

If you like expensive drinks and crappy food in a beautiful waterfront with a pool, (that YES you can swim in!), this is the place for you. Great sunset view.

We came into sunset grill with a large party and the restaurant was incredibly accommodating with splitting checks and rearranging tables. We got there within the last hour of happy hour, and were very pleased with their food options. I had the conch chowder which was delicious. I really enjoyed the flavor. Sunset Grille is also an absolutely beautiful location up against the 7 mile bridge.

Shrimp tacos with rice and black beans. Definitely enough food.

We really enjoyed our meal at Sunset Grille. I had the shrimp tacos that were very good and definitely plenty to fill you up. The tacos came with rice and black beans - which I love. I also got the Titos Cranfusion drink (luckily it didn't come with a souvenir glass. The service was great and it has an amazing view. I will definitely go back next time I am in town.

What a gem this place is! The ambiance is perfect great view of sunset on the ocean. Jimmy Buffet songs playing in the background very relaxing. The food was amazing. My daughter, who is vegetarian, was pleasantly surprised to see an entire sushi menu and was able to order vegetarian sushi. Our onion rings were perfection crispy and flavorful. We ordered margs, one frozen and one on the rocks, both were delicious. I ordered blackened mahi and truffled mash with asparagus. The fish was a bit spicy for me but if you like the heat this is for you the fish was fresh cooked perfectly and tasty. Loved the mash potatoes! A huge positive for me was the food came to our table piping hot. For dessert we ordered key lime pie, it was good, but the star was the churros soooooo tasty! There's also a pool with a bar if you feel like swimming people were having a great time there. The reason I did not give 5 stars is the service wasn't great. We ate with the menus at our table the entire night and plates weren't cleared at the right time but perhaps it had been a long day for our waiter. I did like that we were not rushed to leave. Overall Sunset Grille was a wonderful experience it was picturesque and definitely a place we'll come back to next time I'll go swimming

Food is awful, service is slow, ambiance is all they have unfortunately, it could be an amazing restaurant!

My view of the sunset from the patio!
    Coria C.

The food was amazing! We only had to wait 45 minutes on a busy night with a big group and, once we were sat, our drinks, appetizers and entrees came out pretty quickly. Definitely try their cheese dip! Also got a beautiful picture of the sunset. Would totally recommend, especially for tourists!

Don't order the Cast Away Coconut.... Total rip off..... no booze and it's a ton of money for nothing....... Gimmicky Also!! The Grouper sandwich can either coleslaw OR fries.... Really..... fries cost 0.25 it lacked filling... needed both for that price.... Come on.

    $5 up-charge to sit here.
    Bill S.

Friendly bat tenders and beautiful view... that you have to pay $5 for if you want to see it. The drinks overly rely on commercial mixers. Does anyone care to make a correct drink anymore?

    Pina Colladas by the pool!

It's legitimately one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants in the Florida Keys, which gives it a lot of built-in credibility before you even sit down. Walking up to it, you feel that history. The exterior, the gravel lot, the signage--it's pure roadside Keys. Inside, it leans into that "local bar meets tourist stop" vibe: long wooden bar, TVs, stickers everywhere, taps lined up. Then you open the menu and it pivots in every direction--New England chowder house, BBQ joint, burger shack, seafood spot. It's not clear what it wants to be, and that lack of focus carries straight through to the food. We started with both chowders. The clam chowder looks right at first glance, but the texture tells you everything--thick, almost gluey, clearly roux-heavy. The flavor leans aggressively fatty, closer to margarine than butter, with very little clam presence. No briny backbone, no pepper, no lift. We ended up dumping in black pepper and hot sauce just to make it remotely acceptable--but even then, that heavy fat note kept pushing through. Nothing about it reads as New England. The conch chowder fares a bit better. You can actually see a decent amount of conch, and there's a peppery edge that helps. But the broth is thin and lacks the chunky, stewed tomato depth you expect from a proper Keys-style conch chowder. After having it done right earlier at Key Largo Fisheries, the difference was obvious. Then there are the Texas Twinkies--and the photo really says it all. On paper, this should work: jalapeños wrapped in bacon, stuffed with brisket, pulled pork, cheeses, and sauce. In execution, it's just too much. Too much cream cheese, too many competing sauces, meats chopped into a soft, indistinct filling. It collapses into a heavy, muddy bite that feels more overwhelming than satisfying. Looking back at the menu, the simpler move--burger, ribs, even wings--probably would have been the right call. Instead, we ordered straight into the identity crisis. And that theory held up. We went back and grabbed a burger later--cooked a proper medium rare, with well-done, crispy fries--and it was easily the best thing we had from them. I wanted to like Herbie's. There's history, personality, and clearly a loyal following. But between the confused concept and uneven execution, the move here is simple: stick to the basics.

We got seated inside just as the sun was starting to set. Sadly all the guests that had finished eating right before us decided to walk over to the dock outside the restaurant which just so happened to be the exact viewing location for the sunset so we didn't get any really good photos of it bc there were so many people over there videoing it and taking photos. It was still nice scenery while we waited for our food though. I ordered ceviche to start us off as our appetizer and it was really good. My dinner was a pasta dish with shrimp and scallops. The sauce was supposed to be a white cream sauce but it was really runny. Even adding extra Parmesan cheese to it didn't help thicken it. It tasted ok. Not my best pick. I had a choice of soup or salad with it. I chose their she crab soup and I'm glad I did. It was great. Almost reminded me of homemade chicken and dumplings soup just with crab. I really liked it. I should have stopped with that and the ceviche. My husband got a grouper fish sandwich. He thought it was good but the prices were a bit high for what it was. His fish sandwich was $29. Although good, not worth $29. My pasta definitely not worth the $31. May be a bit of a tourist trap but the food was decent.

It wasn't the best meal we've ever had, but it was definitely the best food we had during our trip. Our favorites were the conch fritters, which were delicious, and the Angus cheeseburger, which was honestly the best thing we ordered. The mussels were also excellent and full of flavor. The shrimp ceviche was decent, but it could have used a little more seasoning, citrus, or zest. It felt a bit dry and didn't have the bright, fresh flavor I was expecting. The seafood platter was the biggest disappointment, especially considering the price. The mahi was under seasoned, and the texture wasn't enjoyable. The crab cakes had a fishy taste, and while the scallops were just okay, the shrimp was actually very good. The sweet potato side was delicious, but overall the platter didn't feel like a good value for what was served. I'd recommend sticking with the conch fritters, mussels, Angus cheeseburger, and shrimp.
