First, the waitstaff was fantastic - hard working and friendly. The place itself is in dire need of some maintenance and upkeep. A wiring problem visible in the pass-through window to the kitchen could easily become an electrocution problem for the staff. Easily fixed like some of the other problems, it just appears the owner doesn't care much. Food was ok. It was so cold in the restaurant that the waiters all were wearing leggings and heavy sweaters, even as fast as they were moving, to keep warm. One even had a heavy scarf on. Uncomfortable having to eat in our coats. This is definitely a fallback location for us now. read more

We stay in Silverthorne about once a month. We make a point to eat at this cafe for breakfast every time. There is a good choice of food and we've never been disappointed. Waitstaff is friendly and the music is not too loud (which is common in many restaurants). It's a busy place because it is well-known and often recommended. read more

The food is good, but it took too long and the owner was incredibly rude when I asked how much longer our order might take...then she threw some crackers at my 4 & 5 year old to tide them over. Not great at all. I had the salmon Benedict and the salmon tasted pretty funky (very fishy, not a good sign). The hollandaise sauce made it tolerable. Service was fast but not very good; I ordered bananas and blueberries on the side and she brought me melons. When I explained that I hadn't ordered melons she looked at me like I was crazy. We did not have a good experience at this restaurant. It took 45 minutes to get food for 8 people. The hamburgers were ordered medium well and they came out raw. We waited another 20 minutes and still did not have the hamburgers. We decided to pay the check and leave. The manager did nothing. Waitress did not go out of her way either. Sometimes it's hard to get excited about breakfast.......unless you go to the Sunshine Cafe. It's busy and for good reason. Sure they have your typical breakfast items but when you start adding chorizo, trout, shrimp and three different chili's things go the awesome route. This is an inexpensive cafe if you're looking for breakfast or lunch while in the mountains. It's in an easy-to-get-to spot and parking is never a problem. Because of its convenience, there may be a line out the door during the breakfast rush. But most breakfasts on the menu are under $10, in fact many are actually under $8. And I love a cheap bloody mary - only $4.50, served in a pint glass with a chunky salt rim and chock full of veggies! Just how I prefer 'em. I liked the #1, an omelette with mushrooms, avocado (inside rather than outside which made it super creamy), sprouts (on top for a little crunch) and cheese served with hashbrowns and toast. My friends liked their bacon omelette and veggie benedict. Service was fast and friendly even with the constant rotation of tables and busy, crowded entrance area. Nothing fancy, but you won't leave feeling like you blew all your mountain money for the day just on breakfast alone. read more

We were so happy to discover this little gem just off of the highway. We have a difficult time traveling as we are vegan and I have to limit my food to gluten-free options. The staff here were wonderful and helped me to find something I could order with these diet restrictions. I had the veggie burrito made with white corn tortillas and vegetarian green chili. I would not have thought that I would be a fan of enchiladas for breakfast but my friend insisted that I taste her order of enchiladas and eggs one morning and I have not ordered anything else since.
