A really great place with great donuts. Said donuts are always fresh and always look presentable. The people here move fast when fulfilling orders and try to be understanding when there's minor communication issues. Plus, the customer area is generally clean and is well decorated, with the menu signs still being lit up for better viewing. Some people have a favorite coffee shop. Some people have a favorite pizza place. Apparently, I have a favorite donut hole. I first found Sunshine Donuts because it's conveniently located across from my doctor's office, and ever since then, I've been completely spoiled. Today I stopped by before picking up my kids from school, and instead of getting one dozen donut holes like a reasonable person, I bought two dozen because I already knew exactly what I was there for. These donut holes are hands down the best I've ever had. They're soft, fresh, and practically melt in your mouth. I've tried donut holes from plenty of places over the years, and nothing compares. The funny part is that I make donuts every day at work, so I know a good donut when I taste one. Sunshine Donuts has officially ruined me because now every other donut hole has to compete with these. The shop itself is adorable. It's small, cozy, and welcoming, with a few seats inside if you want to sit and enjoy your breakfast. Everything was clean and well-kept, and the staff could not have been friendlier. When one of the ladies saw me taking pictures, she excitedly grabbed their award plaque so I could get a photo of it too. That little moment perfectly summed up the atmosphere here. They were proud of what they do, and honestly, they should be. Beyond the donut holes, they also have a great selection of donuts, muffins, scones, pastries, and drinks. I fully admit I keep getting distracted by the donut holes and haven't made it to the rest of the menu yet, but that's a "me" problem, not theirs. If you're looking for fancy, complicated pastries, there are plenty of places for that. If you're looking for a local donut shop that feels warm, welcoming, and serves some of the most addictive donut holes imaginable, Sunshine Donuts is absolutely worth the stop. Now if you'll excuse me, I have 24 donut holes and two children waiting for me, and I'm pretty sure none of us have the self-control necessary to make those donut holes last until tomorrow! read more

This place used to be really nice. They recently switched owners and I don't think I'll be going back anymore. They raised the prices on everything and the quality of the food went way down. My gf took one bite of the ham and cheese sandwich and spit it out because it was gross. They put up a bunch of nasty looking AI generated pictures of food that I guess you could maybe order. I honestly don't know, if they offered it, why not put it on the menu and or take a real picture of the real product? I'm just going to find a different donut shop. I just love this little shop so much. Not only is their food absolutely delicious (and fresh) but they are so kind. The shop owners are so sweet and caring towards their customers. These are hands down the best donuts in Sacramento and every time I bring them to an event, people rave about them and ask where I bought them. They are super fresh and flavorful. My favorite is their maple old fashioned which is super crispy around the edges. Also, don't sleep on their breakfast croissant sandwiches. Incredible value and the best breakfast sandwich in town. This little place is a family favorite. It's a clean shop but doesn't have much seating, so it's more like a grab and go type but they do have single table for two if you want to eat there. The owner and workers are beyond nice and make us feel special. The donuts are delicious and always fresh. They have croinuts,(a mix of croissant and donut),, of course the usual traditional donuts, jelly filled done while you wait, and can even do big birthday numbers if you put in your request early. read more

My usual donut place was closed. So, I hopped on Yelp to see where I might find a chocolate cruller. I didn't even know Sunshine Donuts was nearby. A small place, but very clean with some seating inside. I was greeted in a friendly manner upon entering. The selection wasn't bad considering it was afternoon. And the had chocolate crullers! I ordered two and thought they may have placed something extra in the bag, but wasn't watching that close. After paying and getting out to the van, sure enough - a glazed cruller had been added to the order. Katie enjoyed it! Crullers are my favorite because of the texture of the dough. It is almost like a crepe, with what I describe as an "eggy" feel or flavor. These not only had that, but a wonderfully substantial icing as well. Growing up in the '70s, I remember occasionally enjoying a Dolly Madison or Hostess chocolate cupcake. The icing on those was at least an eighth of an inch thick. You could literally lift the whole thing off the cake like a disc. And the vanilla swirl of icing down the middle stood on top of the chocolate, obviously a separate process and product altogether. Compare that to what Hostess became before they went out of business. The chocolate icing was a thin veneer or film over the cupcake and that vanilla swirl was just a change in color of the film. So, I have an appreciation for the texture of the icing on a donut. The chocolate icing on the crullers is quite luxurious and flavorful. I may have a new go-to for donuts! read more

I order a large coffee, 12 donut hose and a chocolate covered curler donut . The coffee was quite hot black, strong as it should...and they provided the amount of cream and sugar that I recommended . I ordered Sunshine Donuts through Grub Hub today on a whim, and, as a self-described donut aficionado, I was amazed!! I ordered my favorite: chocolate glazed custard filled. I was so excited, I accidentally ordered 2! Whoops! I also got an apple fritter and a (new-to-me) raisin square! I also decided to get a ham, egg and cheese bagel! (This turned out to be an excellent decision!). The donuts arrived perfectly packaged in a colorful box. I'm not sure if the shop did this or my driver, but, there was a fun character hand-drawn on my box that said "Enjoy!" They also wrote "Thank you!" on the box. I thought this was a really nice touch! Stopped by as I was interested in trying the cronuts here, among the other donuts. There was only the glazed version of the cronut available at the time, which I didn't mind. The surprising spotlight was the apple fritter. It has the perfect amount of crisp for an apple fritter (I find most apple fritters having a little too much of a crunch). Best donuts in Sacramento! I will drive out of my way to get donuts here. My go-to donut when trying any donut shop is a raised glazed donut. The ones here are so soft, fluffy, yeasty, fresh, and glazed with just the right amount of glaze, not too thin and not too thick. Their apple fritters are amazing too, so much so that I accidentally ate an entire fritter on my own after eating a glazed donut too. It is a small family owned shop, and every person at the counter that I've met is so kind and welcoming and friendly. They will often throw in extra donuts and dozens of donut holes for free, since I order 2 dozen donuts at a time to bring into work.
