my friend and i were en route from sacramento back to san mateo and decided to take the "long way" back, down thru stockton and across the east bay. stockton proved to be a great midpoint to stop for lunch, not crowded at all and easy parking, since the restaurant had its own lot. at 13.30 on a sunday, we were one of two or three parties inside...no wait to order lunch! there were quite a few options to choose from, but i went with the shrimp teriyaki plate ($13.99) which came with two scoops of white rice, macaroni salad, teriyaki shrimp and mixed veggies. the plate was HUGE and they were very generous with the helping of shrimp, which i greatly appreciated. the veggies were a bit oversauced and salty, but i appreciated the quantity they provided. i enjoyed the macaroni salad, but barely touched the rice since i was pretty full from everything else. not much ambiance inside, pretty bare bones restaurant, but that worked perfectly for us b/c we wanted to eat in about 30 minutes and head back on the road, which is exactly what we got...well, closer to 35 minutes, but who's counting? unfortunately, there was only 1 customer restroom and we had to wait a bit to use it, but i appreciated that it was clean. read more

So let me start by saying I really liked this place. I was passing through and short on time and stopped by this place because it was convenient. I had the Island Fire Chicken and it was pretty solid. I'd get this again. It's a no frills place with lots of food options. The Hawaiian Mac is not too far off from what I have had on the islands (lots of mayo) and the Island Fire Chicken was really good. I prefer this over the Onos in lodi. The service and food is better. Larger portions. Bbq chicken, katsu chicken, shrimp and fish is good but the bbq beef is weird texture, thin but chewy, doesn't hold a good flavor. I would not recommend the beef. The BBQ combo plate was relatively good. I enjoyed the BBQ beef and the BBQ chicken was good as well. BBQ short rib was great also just wasn't happy that I only got 1 rib with my plate vs multiple pieces of chicken and beef as well. The rice went well with the rest of the plate, the Hawaiian macaroni salad was mid, taste like Mayo more than anything no sort of sweetness or tang like most others I have tasted. Just like the 3 stars say, it's A-OK...if you've been to L & L or Ono BBQ, it's pretty much the same fare. L & L offers more menu choices but this place is close to work and home which makes it convenient. Also, the staff is super friendly and it's nice and clean. They tend to get pretty busy at lunch so keep that in mind if you're short on time. As for the food, so far I've tried the Island Fire Chicken and the Katsu Chicken. Portions were a good size for the price and both came with rice, macaroni salad and steamed veggies which are standard Hawaiian BBQ sides. The Island Fire Chicken was very flavorful and spicy but just way too salty for me and I love salty food. I couldn't really eat it. But the Katsu Chicken was nice and crispy and not too greasy. Overall, I think they are good choice for a quick and inexpensive meal. Lastly...the location. During the day I think it's ok but at night, the parking lot was pretty sketchy looking so be warned. read more

The restaurant is clean and the wait time is short, which means the staff is efficient I usually get the beef plate or combo plate and it's delicious every time. I'm from SoCal and they have a chain down there that's called Flame Broiler. They serve bowls with rice, veggies, and meat. The Cook at the Downtown Stockton CA location does not know the proper way to plate their Loco Moco. He placed the Hamburger Patty, Eggs, and Gravy on top of the vegies, instead of over the rice. Now my veggies are soggy and the rice is dry. Also, traditional Loco Moco is served with over easy Eggs, or made to order. I had an acrylic finger Nail in my food the manager never called me back it took 5 days before I was able to speak to someone and then the manager was rude and told me they wouldn't reimburse me for the food. They never apologized and told me in order to be refunded I had to seek legal advise. I kept The food and returned it with the fingernail in it and they were still rude. read more

Tried this place thinking it'd be comparable to Ono or L&L but it was actually better. I'll t. Flavors were all the same but they actually give a lot more food. Ordered a mix and they gave double the meat so two large pieces of chicken, 5 pieces of shrimp and two pieces of fish (it may have been chicken catsu). It was fresh and hot. My bf ordered the bbq mix and again two large pieces of chicken terriyaki, two spare ribs and two of something else (can't remember sorry). The only thing I don't recommend spending money on is the crab Rangoon they're not good at all and provide a weird sweet n sour sauce. I gave 3 stars because it's 3 star food. I was waiting on the side like we are told to do and the manager was clearly ignoring me on purpose so I kindly asked for the order and she told me no I cannot have the order. I asked why she said because you have an attitude I did not have an attitude I just was trying to do my job. I told her let me talk to the manager she told me I am the manager so I asked her for a corporate number she told me there was no corporate number, but gave me an email instead. I absolutely did not have an attitude but she was clearly upset and taking it out on me. all I was trying to do was work as well as she was I have kids to feed and she was clearly not trying to allow me to do my job. I love some good Hawaiian food, but finding a place with vegetarian options outside of Hawaii is difficult. I ordered the vegetable noodle soup and the mac salad. The soup was pretty disappointing, it felt like it was just cabbage water and noodles. Even with soy and sriracha, I couldn't add enough flavor to it to eat it. I miss LA. I got the Chicken Katsu and pan fried pot stickers. The food was hot,tasty and what you expect from Hawaii bbq spots. The rice was a tad soggy for sticky rice but I'm picky about rice The chicken katsu was moist and crispy. The pot stickers were pan fried so I got a soft bite and a crunchy bite. I didn't see any chili oil at the sauce bar but I also didn't ask. The vinegar soy sauce dip that comes w/ it is delicious. They did have Sriracha. They had chop sticks tho.
