Loved the market - and their super deals. I was in the Altadena Location today, Sunday at 8am. I was the only guest at the meat station. I waited ten minutes. Then a lady came out and rudly waved "take number" as if I was an unwanted intruder. Again, I was the only customer. But I did. She called out the number and disappeared to chat with her colleagues. Another five minutes passed. She came back and I ordered 2lbs of the filet mignon. She cut of 3lbs. She said "isse good, yes". Sadly, 2lbs is already a more than generous portion for my wife and myself, so I declined which really upset here. Then she cut it down to 1.8lbs - fine with me. Without a word she passed the bag over the counter and disappeared again, ignoring the next customer behind me. Good for me, bad for them: checking the receipt at home, I realized she charged me for beef kidney instead of filet mignon - $2.36 - it should have been six times the amount. I checked out, $174, as I bought a lot of spirits. Savana at check out could have not been more unattentive. She was always chatting with others. As age verification she randomly pulled 11/22/1977 - not remotely my DOB - I am born 1963. That aside, none of peaches bought on sale today were edible. They looked fine on the inside, rotten inside. As I "made" $10 on the wrong price for the filet (which was a steal already advertised at $5.99), I am happy to forgive. So: excellent prices, horrible service, disasterous parking. I no longer can persuade myself that the wrongful meat pricing was due to a mistake. I think they do deceptive pricing on meat. Check your meat price or actual weight of it at the register. Today I went to the store after four months after my bad experience last time because they had the mutton on sale for $2.49 on their flyer. When I went to the store, the displayed price tag was also $2.49. When I brought the meat bag to the register, the price was $4.99. That is TWICE the advertised price. I asked the cashier to check the pricing because that's not what the printed/published price tags said so, but she was firm that their system didn't have the sale price in there while other items had. The store at least has to honor the price they advertised but that didn't happen. So I gave back the meat. At this point, the store broke the law. The U.S. Retail Pricing Laws and Regulations in Sec. 21a-79-7 [ Electronic pricing error. One item at no cost. Signage] states that "(a) In the event that any consumer commodity electronically scans at the cash register or checkout terminal at a retail price which is higher than the posted retail price, one item of such consumer commodity, up to a value of twenty dollars, shall be given to the consumer at no cost." My gf is from #Estonia. Her name is @edith_soot. She is physically disable, chronically ill. We have been together for 8 months now. We wanted to have a nice home dinner, so we went to @superkingmarkets #altadena, since they have international food that reminds us of home. It is very common for @edith_soot to be under a lot of pain. The lady in the cashier notice that she was not feeling good, and she was very sweet in offering her water. We walked to the parking and I offered to bring the car since she was having trouble breathing. She was sitting with her walker in a blue - disable zone, near the handicap parking with the same color. When I went to pick her up, she was crying. One of the workers from the parking (next picture) was moving shopping carts and needed to cross by where Edith was sitting. She was very dizzy. He demanded her to move in a very cruel way by whistling to her, like a dog. Without having any consideration under the physical situation she was going through the fact that she was sitting in a walker seat. She felt humiliated. The worse thing, after I picked her up in tears, he went to talk to his supervisor and victimized his situation by saying that she was blocking his work! I find this super offensive, inconsiderable and wanted to share this story to my friends to create awareness of individuals that are chronically Ill and/or have an invisible disability like my angel. Today we wanted to have nice dinner at home, a good excuse for women's day. A day we mutually value in our home-countries (in Argentina they just legalize abortion for women in unhealthy situations preventing them from doing it illegally). Hella cheap groceries.. Fruits here aren't glossy with wax but they'll do the job. I'm sure they're just and good for you as what you get at Ralph's. Don't recall if they carry organic. Isles are filled with multi cultural fare from Middle Eastern and Latin foods. There's extensive meat and seafood market as well as a deli, cheese shop, cake shop. You can also grab food to go from tacos and roasted chicken similar to Zankou. The bang for the buck here are the spirits. They do carry some high end whisky, tequila, and cognac. You wouldn't think that you can get 25+ year old whisky here but you can at a great price. The drawbacks is the overcrowded parking. Get here early. There's also a mad rush of people always here like Cosco. Don't be surprised to be driving your cart like bumper cars. The workers here aren't that helpful either. Let's just say I love the produce, but the management compares to Walmart. I needed a decent watermelon and made the big mistake of going in the afternoon because the watermelons at Ralph's were horrible. I should have known to just turn around and leave when shopping carts littered the parking lot and I could barely find a place to park because of said shopping carts. The store was crammed full of people and there's never enough room to maneuver. I asked my checker if someone could do something about all the shopping carts and she said I needed to speak to the manager after waiting in another line with no one there. Cheap groceries! Got a giant bag of spinach so large it can double as a pillow for only $2.99, very fresh and clean. The only problem in getting such a large bag of spinach is the creativity you have to pull and just "Iron Chef" it. Today's secret ingredient is... SPINACH! Then comes the spinach soup, spinach frittata, and spinach salads for a week. =) They also have vegetables and fruits not found at other stores, such as fresh garbanzo beans. And just about cheap everything, I like the hearty loaves of grainy bread and the Lavash (flat bread) they have here pretty cheap and versatile. Be sure to check out the deli for great deals on sliced meat and cheese for sandwiches. MMMmmm prosciutto! Any fresh bread or pastries are all now shipped inside plastic bags or containers from another location. It looks they removed the entire bakery department. This Super King is smaller than the Los Angeles location but the service is faster and prompt helping you get out of there fast! The parking lot is big and spacious, I've always found a spot close to the entrance. I have never waited long in the deli or the fresh meats section but be prepared for slow checkouts! read more

Love this supermarket. They have everything regular markets do, plus much more. As in, international products. Makes it really convenient for those that like to cook more than your average meal. Their herbs and produce is always, correction 99.9% of the time, it's fresh. The deli and meat department, again fresh food and great products. Last time I was shopping for herbs, I specifically was looking for fresh basil. Since herbs go bad quick, they always stock up and put fresh ones in. Unfortunately they were all out of fresh ones, and it was whatever was left on the counter. I ended up getting 3 batches and I wasn't even charged for them. Thank you! Just be aware. I was purchasing items in the bulk area and measuring it on a scale in the produce area. I wanted a pound of each of these items and so I kept filling the back until it weighed to a pound. When I got to the checkout it was almost twice as heavy as with the scale in the produce section had said. So I ended up paying twice as much. When I told the staff about this, they said they'd have someone look into it and sorry. The scales in the corner of the bulk section are more accurate. It just seems a little shady to me. read more

Super King is an interesting grocery story. I usually go to the one in LA, but stopped here since I was in the area. It's a bit hard to describe, but they carry a mix of Armenian, Middle Eastern, and Latino foods. You can often find deals on produce and meats here. The store is large, and the parking situation is much better at this location than the one in LA (even though I see complaints in other reviews). It's also more orderly and cleaner here. They have a frequent shopper program. After a certain number of points, they'll text you to redeem the points for a free item. It's nothing spectacular, but I got some popsicles the other day. read more

We enjoy shopping here for their fresh product and butcher shop. The prices are really reasonable and the staff is amazing. This market has something for ever ethnic background on hand. It's amazing to see things on the shelves or in the refrigerator section that typically you only see on television. Here's my only issue with this market. The aisles are so congested with overstock and displays that it's hard to shoppers to make it thru the aisles. It causes a bottleneck in the aisle that people are getting frustrated and abandoning their shopping carts to get around other carts. Quality of produce lately has been very poor. I used to purchase fruits from there. Now the fruits are all old, and I cannot tell until I opened the fruits. By now I have thrown away 2 watermelons, 2 pineapples, a bag of cherries. The pineapples had a weird fungus pesticide taste. The cherries were mutated and were all attached to one another. She is rung up for more items than she has and when attempting to call to resolve, the service is poor or absent. Spoke with one and was asked to cone back in. Not all Super Kings Markets are the same.....I was hooked to the SK in Santa Ana....loved that place. That location is 5 Stars.....They have an amazing variety of hard liquor and fine wines. The deli section is very good and they gave samples everyday. The location near Altadena was just ok - much smaller and all smaller departments. I was looking for the turkey pastrami and they didn't have it. The wine selection was much smaller and did not carry the high end brands. I miss the Santa Ana location. read more

They have fruits and veggies at super low pricing (but make sure you wash the heck out of it cause who knows if it has pesticides...? lol, but whatever... we breathe in crap all day long anyways! j/k!) The quality of the fruits and veggies are not top notch but for the price, you cant beat what they have to offer. Their deli has very low pricing as well. These are the main two things we come here for, but somehow end up walking out of there with 8 bags of stuff and spending $100, which I must say I gets me like 2 bags of stuff at Vons, lol. This location is much better than the San Fernando location due to selection, set up, and parking. Its a great market to shop from that will save you lots of money. There are some good things with this store and some bad The bad: This is the worst parking lot. They are laid out diagonally, but the spaces are small...open your car door and it'll likely always touch the next car to you. In my case, the guy in the big fat SUV made getting in and out nearly impossible. Plus he blocked my view so backing out was tough. If someone has a shopping cart, there is little room for them and you in the driveway...you have to be careful you don't hit them. Also at noon on Thursday, I was lucky to get the last spot. They limit exiting into one doort with security guard. That tell you that it's not safe there at night. Their baked goods has trans fat. Their"butter" cookies has no butter but margarine and butter flavor. Long lines...even Thursday at noon, four people ahead of me with lots of groceries.,impossible to think they'd have self serve register when you only have 4 items like me. Some of the shady guys with tattoos on their necks probably would try to sneak out without paying. The good Interesting ethnic food selection. Perfect for this neighborhood. The specials prices are fantastic. But the rest of the prices are not much different than most other markets on the stuff I buy most often. Capri sung $1.99 which was$2.50 in most markets. Butter was $1 off per pound. Sorry I did not have time to check out their meat dept. Their produce prices are cheaper, as often is the case with the box type Mexican style markets. I bought terrific watermelon for $3, and the same type was at Vons for $5. I was tempted to but didn't buy the 2lb. bulk baby spinach in a bag for $3.49. Half that size is $4 a bag at most supers. I came in last night to check it out and ended up buying $48 worth of produce, pickled things and assorted stuffed grape leaves in cans. For the most part, the produce is pretty fresh. It may not be the pretty pre-packaged stuff you see at TJ's but can you get a gigantic bag of spinach for $3.49? No! The parking lot is nuts but if you go approximately 30 minutes before closing, it's not too bad. I probably would take a closer look at the meat section next time but I was in a hurry to get over to the prepared deli section. I did see people buying lots of packages of the biggest chicken legs I've ever seen! Unfortunately, the deli was closed by the time I got there. Damn, and I was going to maybe sample all their olives. They do sell tons of different olives though, huge vacuumed packed ones going for pretty cheap. Over in the booze section, they had brands I haven't really seen before. Lots of vodkas from the mother land. But they also had brands that I would have had to go to Bev Mo to find like St. Germain. Booze prices are average, maybe a buck or two more. I was laughing at some of the "gift" packages. A bottle of tequila with a bottle of Jarritos? Yo no se? Check out went pretty quickly. I'd come back again but probably only for the produce. I came to this Altadena market looking for seasoned ground meat to make my own lule/koobideh kabobs. I wasn't expecting this big, spacious, mega supermarket very reminiscent of Wholesome Choice in Orange County. Super King has Armenian owners so there is a definite middle-eastern slant to the offerings. There is a deli section with middle eastern cold cuts, feta cheese, a huge variety of olives, and grape leaves as well as a ton of middle eastern breads, like lavash. The produce dept. is pretty ordinary and the prices were ethnic-market good - for example roma tomatoes are 2 lbs. for $1 and lemons are 4 for $1. You do a little more picking and discarding when you buy produce at ethic markets but that is the norm. For example, I bought mint which was in good shape but most of the other fresh herbs were really withered and dried out. I had to really avoid the bruised tomatoes for my bag. The meat dept. was not very middle eastern and actually struck me more like a Mexican supermarket with cuts ready for carne asada and nothing that looked like ready to grill lule meat. I bought everything I needed for my middle eastern grill feast, including tomatoes, anaheim chiles, lemons, sumac, and grape leaves from the deli ($8.99/lb), which are delicious - not too tangy or tomatoey. I don't live close enough to Super King to make it my main grocery store but I'm glad to know it exists. read more

I love this market! Disclaimer that this review is mainly based on their selection and prices. If you want excellent service..this may not be the place. I asked a couple of workers where certain things were and they showed me efficiently. They didn't really smile or make small talk, because this market is busy! They need to constantly restock. I don't mind anyway. I love that they have cheap and tasty bulk Hummus (2.99/lb). There is a lot of stuff imported from Turkey and Armenia. There is a large lavash and pita selection, and there are even jars of tahini for sale. There is such a huge array of fresh herbs at extremely reasonable prices like 2 bunches of basil for 99 cents. They carry many unique things. The first time I was there there were raw almonds still green and fuzzy. They have squash blossoms and Italian white eggplant. Seriously, I've never seen that before. Each time I've gone there have been cheese samples in the back and it is good and fresh! I always leave with a cart of stuff and it's all super cheap. Just beware..bring your own bags. This is my favorite market to go to for cheap vegetables! It's right across the street from 24 Hr Fitness in Altadena. So, I tend to go after a gym session. They have vegetables that are sometimes hard to find at your average grocery store! For example, I I can find mint leaves and Brussels sprouts here for cheap! So great. A Japanese friend of mine told me about this place when I asked where she goes grocery shopping living in Linda Vista area. Really Super King Market? I was skeptical until I was blown away by the selection they have. I was once told that Altadena is a huge culture melting pot. I can see how it reflects in this store. I've found bean sprout, bitter melon, fresh Asian mushrooms which you can only find at Asian ethnic grocery stores. Inside of the store, they have customers that are Asian, Armenian, Spanish, white, Asian Indian and Arabic. It's interesting to talk to one and another to see how they cook up bell peppers. The price is the best I've seen so far. I came home with horchata, bag of bean sprout and marinated Chicken Al Pastor. read more

It's amazing how stupid their customer service is here! I wanted to return a jar or grape leaves that was leaking and had mold and their "Policy" is to return in two days. Guess what, I don't live close by to come by any given time. The customer service rep was rude and told me that I should have called. Who even call anymore? Most stores have a 30 day return policy. I have purchased stuff in the past that have been expired and didn't bother to return them, but this time when I decided to take action, it blew up.
