This place is a 4 minute drive for me, but for some reason I've always skipped over it for taquerias that are waaaaaay more out of my way. Feeling a little drained after today's morning workout, I was hankering for some good ole carne goodness and, in typical Taco Tuesday fashion, set my sights on Super Taqueria. I opted to travel on foot; adding an easy two miles to my running log for the sake of tacos is a win-win for me. One scenic mile of jogging through office space limbo later: I skipped over the combos and went straight for a simple taco trio. Trying out chicken, pork, and beef is a pretty simple litmus test for any taqueria, and it tells you a lot about how they work with their meats. Of the three, I was most impressed with the carne asada. Fantastic flavor and perfect for a beef-fiend like me. The tacos al pastor were solid and tasty but seemed a little tough. The chicken was pretty mediocre and was in need of a lot of tenderness. The salsa verde was a great way to brighten up the flavors, but the salsa rojo seemed more like Tapatio in a dispenser to me. Still a little hungry, I opted for one last taco: the chicharron. I made the mistake of not asking how they serve this, and got a few hunks of chicharron guisado rather than the fried pork I was expecting. For those wary of fattier cuts, steer clear: this is pretty much gelatinous stewed pork rind. Decent flavor: I dug it, though I admit I probably won't make it a regular order. I grabbed an agua de jamaica to go for the mile back. Four tacos, a hibiscus tea, and a two mile run: I'd call it a successful quickie lunch. I have to admit, I was a little put off by the ambiance. It was a gorgeous sunny day outside, but all the shades were drawn. The little light coming through felt more apt for an afternoon at a dive bar. Each time I tried to flag someone down to ask about brightening up the place, they'd run off to take a call or run an errand. I'm not one to ever need service with a smile, but a smile definitely could have added some much needed light to the already dim space. These tacos were jam packed with a lot of meaty goodness, and that is absolutely nothing to complain about. I do wish the all-around quality could line up with the quantity, but at the end of the day, picking out the strengths of a restaurant you intend to frequent is a duty that falls on the shoulders of any avid eater; from my perspective, they do beef the best, and that's what I'll resign to stick to. The food here is solidly good but pales in comparison to the other taqueria gems that the area has to offer. Though far from my favorite in town, the sheer proximity and the opportunity to squeeze in some cop-out quickie cardio will keep me coming back to Super Taqueria for more beefy bites. It's hard to find an authentic taqueria in the south of Reno....but finally, there is one. Super Taqueria is located in one of the industrial shopping centers on Double R, closer to Longley Lane. While its hidden away, it seems like my fellow south Renoites have found it as it's always fairly busy. They have REAL tacos: small tortillas, your choice of meat (carne asada, carnitas, al pastor), cilantro and onions. Squeeze a little lime, a pinch of salt and some hot sauce and you have a delicious taco. Their burritos are delicious and their "super" burritos live up to their name in size. Filled with all the goods: rice, beans, your choice of meat, sour cream and guacamole (and they don't skimp) they are sure to satisfy your hunger. They have an open kitchen and you can see all the ingredients as they're prepared and as they are loaded onto your plate. They even have a few breakfast items on their menu, so I may have to try those out one of these days. The place is very clean with almost minimal decorations with a giant TV that's usually tuned to a soccer match. Good food, good soccer, what more could I want? read more

I love this place. Carnita tacos are excellent, as well as the shredded beef burrito. My personal fave is a bean and cheese burrito with sour cream. Their tortillas are authentic and delicious. I give this place 4 stars because I like the price and my food was good, and fresh. I tried the pork, al pastor (spicy pork) and chorizo (pork sausage). I wasn't a huge fan of the spicy pork or chorizo; the meats were good but I just didn't like them with the other ingredients on the taco. I'm not sure how to describe it, but just the flavor/seasoning on them didn't jive well for me. I got some chips and guac as well. The guac was really fresh and definitely spicy!! The regular pork taco was awesome and I'll order a few of those next time. It's cheap and fast and open early, which is always a plus in my book. Not everything was ready to be served when I got there right at open (08:30) but I was willing to wait and my food arrived quickly and was very fresh. I definitely like the price of the tacos. I've had some better in Reno so far but I'd go here over other places because it's cheaper. The tacos came on 2 corn tortillas, pretty standard, and had onion and cilantro with wedges of lime. I added some salsa verde and they were perfect. There are other toppings you can definitely add like cheese, sour cream, pico, etc, but I just took them how they came. All of the employees were very friendly and the place was neat and clean. Several people came in to grab takeout orders while I was there eating. I took one of the tacos home along with the rest of the chips and guac because I was pretty full after the first two tacos and some chips. I know where not to go. I was there about a year ago and ordered a bowl of soup. It was ice cold. Was there yesterday for lunch and had a carnita taco and a chile relleno. The port in the taco was old and tasted like refrigerated pork. My chile relleno was stuffed with cheese that was putrid. Management challenged me and finally offered me another chile relleno (obviously had been cooked who knows how many days ago.
