I first discovered mead in Sedona when I tried a sample and was surprised how light and refreshing it was especially since it's made from fermented honey. I don't really drink anymore for health reasons, but this felt like a nice treat. It doesn't give you a buzz just relaxed and flavor was amazing. I stopped in after lunch and wasn't disappointed. I had the Beelini carbonated peach, and it was so good. The service is on point very friendly and knowledgeable.

I chose a 12 glass flight. 1oz each. $28, I think. Most were dry and sweet. Some tasted like whiskey or bourbon. I ordered pretzels to go with it. It was a heaping plate of bite sized pretzels that was plenty for 2. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was cool that this was in the basement floor of a retail store and the upper floor restaurant[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Service was perfect and I was checked on many times.

My mother, father, and I were traveling from Phoenix to Prescott for a long weekend. We couldn't check into our Airbnb until 4 PM, so that's how we found ourselves rolling up to this spot around 3 PM on a Friday. There was only one other small group when we walked downstairs (cause it's underground ) and so we were able to sit down and give our order promptly. We heard about the $28 12 different mead flight and definitely couldn't pass that up. With how expensive mead is, it's a better deal doing the flight rather than anything else. Especially since I had never tried mead before. Now, I won't go into specifics about each mead but I will say that I liked the sunshine meemosa a lot with jalapeño and I hate jalapeños! I also quite liked the Marion mead since it has all my favorite berries in it. I was a little upset that the peanut butter jelly one wasn't as peanut butter and jelly as I was expecting. But I digress. It was still a fun time sampling all these different alcohols that are usually on the expensive side. My parents both enjoyed our time and the service was quick and friendly! There was a nice variety of meads to sample, even though wine isn't really our thing.

I visited this place once again, since I was so happy from the last time I came. The food was again amazing filled with sweet and sharp flavors. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once you go down the stairs your view transforms from a family winter wonderland, into a dark and mysterious bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only thing that shortens my review from five stars is the fact that both times I've came the service was slow and unwelcoming. But if you are looking for place not to be bothered with good food this is definitely a great pick.

It's lovely.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bartender was very attentive and friendly. Made good recommendations. We enjoyed getting to taste so many meads and had different favorites. The flatbread went great with it and was delicious! Would definitely come back!

Superstition Meadery is a unique place in town & must be visited when visiting PRESCOTT and its town Square. This is my third time here, and while before I've had flights to try all the different varieties of mead, today I'm just having a couple of glasses & enjoying the atmosphere. The place is a little hard to find, as you must pass through another business and walk down the staircase to get there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere is super warm and cozy, with nice seating niches throughout to enjoy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is very helpful in helping you select from their wide variety of Meads and just letting you know a little information about what Mead is. Great experience for anyone interested in trying mead!

We were referred here by our local mead place in Reno, Nevada. The Prescott tasting room is an underground bar set up which was pretty cool. We walked in around 315pm with a few other people. I was shocked to see a bunch of kids around and the establishment was super understaffed. One server for everyone in the tasting room who was understandably overwhelmed. We wanted to try tapas but the server stated she could not accommodate it. I'm assuming because she was busy. By the time we got the second half of our flight there were three people staffed and we were able to try the Elote dip. It was sweet and spicy! Really good! A cool place to stop by if you like mead!

The service! The drinks! The whole experience! A bucket list stop that lived up to its expectations. Went on a Thursday evening, The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. We sat at the bar and they gave us great suggestions about the meads and other places to check out in the area. A little of the beaten path but well worth it. Highly recommend.

What a wonderful experience. We stopped in to celebrate our birthdays and decided upon some mead and cider flights. The ambiance is beautiful and welcoming. I loved how you went down the stairs, and it's this cool, dimly lighted place where all the cool kids hang out. Haha. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and continued to check in on us. This is one of my favorite meaderies ever, I have been to Superstition near Phoenix and love everything I have had from them. I also make my own mead and like to try out new meaderies while on vacation. The vibe here was very cozy, it's located in downtown Prescott, in the basement of an old building. They had so many varieties to try, so we ordered a flight of 12 meads to start. Everything was so good and flavorful, we also ordered a couple of tasters from really expensive bottles that were like $100+ a bottle, so it was like $5-$10 for a one ounce pour. As good as they tasted, it was really pricey for this trip to Superstition. We also ordered a sour dough bread and oil plate to enjoy with our mead. The service was good and we bought a couple of bottles to take back home with us and compare with our local meaderies.

Was shopping inside Spice Traveler in the Burmister building on Gurly street. We heard some commotion going on towards the back of the store. I spot stairs going downward. We go check it out. It's called the Superstition Meadery! My husband and I decided to partake. Looks very cool, kind of like a wine cellar. I know nothing about Mead so our server tells us all about how it's made what it is etc. I attached a photo of what mead is and how it's made/what it's made of. I decide to do a flight of tastings! Husband's driving so all is well. (You can also just order a 1 ounce or a 5 ounce glass, which he did). There is a lot of fruit flavors involved in these drinks. Out of the 12, I probably really liked six of them. My number one was called Blueberry Spaceship. I was given a sheet and told I could rate them. I chose to give them numbers between. 1-10. A couple of them were very, very sweet and a couple of them tasted like cough syrup to me. Only one I couldn't really handle/finish was made with red hatch chilies in it. The burn on the back of my throat didn't appeal to me...at all. Some of them very good . This was really a cute quirky looking place and I would definitely go with friends and do it again!

Never had mead before so our guide walked us through every mead available. Everyone was friendly and informative! Place has a cool brewery atmosphere. All the bottle labels and mead names were creative. Would recommed for large groups of friends. read more

My girlfriend and I drove up to Prescott for the first time last month, and after hearing about the S Meadery we had to try it. It's got a pretty chill intimate vibe and countless meads to choose from. Worth checking out if you're into meads or looking for a relaxed date night. read more

This place is cool. We kind of care across it by accident and we are so happy that we did! The ambiance is cozy and speak-easyish... and the mead is so good. Had a really great time at the Meadery trying different flights. All were delicious, with my favorite being the marion offerings. The service was good, a few snack options were good pairings (we had the cheese and crackers), price was good. Brought home a bottle of Coffee Marion to have with breakfast in bed one morning. Total cost, with tip, was $113.99. Two people for a couple hours and a bottle to go. read more

Mead and chill, is how I would describe my visit. I mean chill in the literal sense not the colloquialism. In a cozy basement beneath a gourmet market sits the meadery, offering a very wide selection of meads (about 12). A flight of everything can be had for the indecisive people for only $24. Be warned mead is as strong as most wines so plan accordingly. Some of the meads were great, light fruity or sweeter and richer. Some of the coffee ones were not my cup of tea but still interesting. My son enjoyed the izze soda that looked just like our mead once poured in to a tasting glass. But I would not recommend this for kids during busy hours. And if you did not know, mead predates beer, it is made with honey as a base so nothing will have a "dry" taste. read more

Absolutely a gem! My husband and I first got into mead a couple of years ago while living in Austin, and we were sad to leave our local meadery behind when we moved to Phoenix. But wow, Superstition is beyond anything we've experienced so far. Absolutely top notch meadery with more than just a variety of flavors. We did both flights, the core series and the whites, 29 meads total, and there wasn't one we didn't like. There were still so many more we wanted to try, but we still had the second half of our day to get through and had to resign to the fact that we will have to come back for more- not that we could complain about that! So happy we sought this place out, though it was a little hard to find (we missed the small sign out on the sidewalk pointing us downstairs). Can't wait to return! read more

Second time we were at Superstition and we love it. My boyfriend and I both love to drink mead. They even have the world's best Cider. World class drinks in a tiny underground tasting room in Prescott, AZ. This is the second time we drove oh, about 6 hours from San Diego just to sample their Mead. And it is so worth the drive. The Marion and Coffee Marion were our favorites. Amante was a-ma-zing! And I think they could even up the chile flavor in that and still have it be epic. Its a nice cozy spot and the food is pretty good too. Date, after work, Saturday afternoon... really not a bad time to be here. We left with a bottle of the Marion and will be back soon for more. read more

Lovely tasting room, located in the basement of the spice store. We sat at the bar and did thr large flight splitting it. The mead was great I usually do not do sweet but this was tasty some of it was not that sweet. The pours are 1 oz which is plenty when you get 15 tastes. My favorite was the hopped mead and the gingerbread tasting one. They also do a drink which is their cider and mead mix super good and loved it. We got an olive dip for an app and it was tasty a nice salty addition to the sweet drinks. read more

Hhhmmm..this is one of those you wonder and ponder about..a 2 star or 3 star. Selection of meads is excellent, but pricy but knew that going in. The service is very slow and inconsistent. Now, here's the challenge I have with some places. Should it be the responsibility of the establishment to keep guests in check? Should babies be allowed? Should the parents be allowed to change them at the table? Yep..changed a diaper.i really do question the thought process of some, obviously their was a lack of one on both parties- establishment and guests. Can't really recommend due to service and who knows you may get a special treat of a baby being changed next to you.. read more

This is a great place to spend an hour or two and get a quick buzz when in Prescott. We bought a Groupon for an appetizer and flight of 10 different meads for 2 and it was certainly worth doing. I liked almost all the meads we tried but I like sweet wines in general. My husband who is more a dry wine and bourbon guy wasn't thrilled with mead because they were too sweet for him but he did find the various flavors to be interesting. We even tried the additional flight of their 4 award winning meads which were all smooth and sweet. The artisanal cheese tray was okay. Small samplings of about 3 different cheeses some crackers and grapes. We also ordered salmon bruschetta and that was very tasty. Doubt we'd return but it was fun to try. read more

MEAD TO KNOW Friendly service, knowledgeable on everything on mead. 26 dollars for 13 flights is a very good to choose what you like. The Apophis is A MUST & Lagrimas de Oro. You will taste every flavor that is mentioned in the description. I will be coming again & again. Personally I enjoyed the honey Highway & bought a bottle. read more

Ok, first of all, I will say that the guy who rated this 2 stars needs to re-visit the meadery. Dry and bitter? What the hell!? Not even close. Do they make a few dry ones? Yes? But holy shit, almost all of them are sweet, decadent and delicious. This place is so cool, the owners are so nice, the staff is incredible and the meads? WORLD CLASS. End of story. read more

We stopped here because I had bought a Groupon for 10 tastings and a shareable plate for $25. Neither my hubby or I had ever tasted mead before so we weren't sure what to expect. We were both extremely pleased. The 10 tasting ran the gamut from grapefruit to belgian flavored to blueberry to cherry. We also tried their blueberry cider that has been rated as the best cider in the world. I can concur that the cider is amazing. We both enjoyed the charcuterie plate and the various meats and mustard that came on it. The server was extremely knowledgeable about Superstition Meadery as well as beer and wine. We greatly enjoyed our experience. Make sure to take a stroll through the store above the meadery for local and artisanal food. read more

We absolutely loved this place and it was packed!!! If you see something you like, better buy it when you can. We went back that evening to pick up a few bottles of mead and they were sold out. Sad Sad Sad. Great little snacks, friendly service, and the most delicious honey-mead you've ever tasted. Cannot wait to drink my stash and visit them again next time. read more

Hidden in the basement of the spice store like a speakeasy. This place was amazing. I had one of their ciders/cysers at a beer bar in Atlanta where I live and just had to check it out while in town. I did the 12 taster flight and not a single one I could really complain about, they were all great. Staff is really nice too. Can't wait to hang up my tin sign when I get home. read more

If you like mead or want to try it for the first time superstition is a must. The product they produce is top notch. They provide light menu options as well, wouldn't recommend as a a food first option because of limited menu options. If you do choose to eat the food is pretty solid and recommend the pesto flatbread. read more

The Raven was serving up the Marion Mead and I was hooked. Looked it up and was surprised two-fold! Not only was there a pretty cool Groupon deal but it turned out had been sitting at my feet the entire time I was forced to work at the coffee shop due to my wifi's temperament. We finally had an afternoon off without the kiddo and work and decided to give this place a try. It took some convincing since my hubz is a self-proclaimed beer drinker ONLY. But hey he loves me. Five stars! We had the flight and the cheese plate and about 2 bottles of cool crisp water. Highly recommend. read more

Never tried mead before, but the server gave us a really good run down of the different varieties. The four of us had a good time sampling the 24 flight special. The "Pleasure Dome" had way too much clove, but the others were really unique and a good variety of sweet and dry. I preferred the blueberry vatieties as well as the War Honey. Great atmosphere as well! Highly recommend. read more

I use to enjoy Superstition Meadery because the cider was good and staff were friendly. The friendly staff then turned pretentious and became too proud of their ciders. Superstition Meadery's cider turned to rat piss and they lost their vintners license. read more

I have been hearing good things about his place and I finally had a chance to stop in tonight.I loved the atmosphere. It is in the basement of the Olde Capitol Building. Super cozy and inviting. Comfy chairs. I have never had mead before (mead is an alcoholic drink made from honey and served from bottles like wine is served from). I am not a wine drinker, so I was sure I wouldn't like anything! Wrong. Justin really listened to my concerns and what I thought I might like. He then recommended the Tahitian Honeymoon (made from honey and vanilla). YUMMY! (I did ask what the alcoholic content is and it is 13-1/2%) I can't wait to go back and try some more. I will be picking a full bottle to serve at Thanksgiving. read more

The mead here is exquisite. I have never tasted an equal. I feel really classy when I drink it. I am very excited that I found it at BevMo. It is worth every penny. Splurge on your birthday or on a friend's birthday and buy it. The bottles are very beautiful too. Save them as a vase for flowers. read more

Excellent service knowledgable wait staff and so friendly! My husband and I stopped in while we were visiting his parents in Prescott and we will definitely be back next visit! We did the 12 flight tasting and a cheese plate and everything was great! They even give you markers to mark the meads you like on the menu so you remember in case you want to order a glass later ! The waiter was on point and the waitress with the black bangs was so sweet and knew so much about mead! We even got his parents a gift certificate to try the place we loved it so much! Highly recommend ! read more

A very cute discovery! Right below the market, we were greeted with a very cool view of vats of honey, in the process of being fermented. There was a very cozy atmosphere- with comfy chairs and dim lights. Felt like a modern speakeasy. We ordered a wonderful cheese plate mix and a handful of samples of mead. They all had such a different taste! Loved the aphrodesia?? And the tahitian vanilla. Their berry cider was very easy going down too. Over all a great experience while on our trip to prescott. read more

We stopped here on a whim and I'm so glad we do. This basement bar location seems very mead-appropriate and it's a lovely spot. The mead is so. good. We did a tasting of a wide range, from a few of the hoppy ones to the Marshmallow Peanut Butter Jelly Crime Scene. I liked them all. read more

This was a fun and unique experience. My girlfriend and I are both wine lovers and this a unique wine-like experience. Mead is basically wine honey wine. While my friends in Napa have no reason for concern, some of the meads were quite good. The food was excellent as well as the atmosphere. read more

I don't love mead wine, but this place was crazy cool. There was only one bartender so the service was pretty slow - poor girl was trying to juggle everyone, answer questions, prepare food, and serve drinks. Otherwise, such a cool vibe. The food is wonderful! read more

Wow! If you like mead this place is perfect. If you don't like mead you are wrong and go here. If you never heard of mead go try it! I love how intimate this place is and how friendly the staff are. I do wish they had more food but then again there are like 72 places to eat around the square anyways. This is my go to place when people visit me. They have all loved it! read more

Meet the Business Owner: Jeff H.

Jeff and Jen Herbert began Superstition Meadery with a mission to reintroduce the oldest fermented beverage to the modern world. They are founding members of the American Mead Makers Association, editors of the journal American Mead Maker and Jeff is a board member of AMMA. They follow their mission everyday and nothing makes them happier than seeing people enjoy their products.

This is THE coolest place. Whenever we vacation we buy a souvenir bottle of wine. We were visiting in Sedona and walked into a winery...on the shelf behind our hostess were these neat bottles "Superstition Meadery". Meadery? Yes, she said and gave us the address as we walked out the door with our obligatory bottle - I don't even reminder the winery or the wine we bought - I just remember that we had to get to that Meadery. Now I am vegan so I don't eat honey, but the husband. That is another story when it comes the honey. We were intrigued. The ride to Prescott only took a little under an hour and we pulled up downtown, facing a nifty gift shop of spices, teas, etc. The Meadery was downstairs in a basement. I felt like we were going into a secret hide away club...a beautiful long wooden bar stretched along the back wall. To the right was a window so you could view the fermenting barrels. We sat down and the bartender poured a flight for the husband - fruity, and light to spicy and dark. His favorites were the LaGrimas de Oro and Tahitian Honeymoon. I sit here writing this post because I'm still morbidly offended, Emma, was cool. Elizabeth was a super lame and pretentious B, cutting me off, and have ZERO personable social skills. Had a great experience thanks to our server Justin. A very cool and unique venue, with some great tasting Meads. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and took the time to explain their process, objectives and each blend. Since honey is a key ingredient in Mead, production is limited and prices therefore are quite high, but we highly recommend the to tasting room experience.
