Hidden gem at the far end of South Tacoma Way. All of the pastries are to die for, but especially the dulce de leches. Melt in your mouth texture, perfectly executed. I tried the empanadas today for the first time and they were killer, with a nice plump olive in each of them. Highly recommend stopping in to get a few cookies or cakes. The gentleman behind the counter is so polite and you can tell how much love is in each one of these treats. Inconspicuous storefront from the very busy S Tacoma way but what a gem when you walk-in. Greeted upon arrival with a generous smile and sweet as can be owner. I let him know it was my first time and that his bakery was highly recommended by a co-worker. When you walk in there is a counter for ordering the savory foods and a seating area and off to the right is a doorway that leads to the pastries and grocery store. Everything is clean, well kept and so inviting. I knew I wanted to try the empanadas and pastries. I ordered one each of the empanadas - beef, ham & cheese and spinach. Each empanada was delicious and my favorite was the spinach though the ground beef with the olive was a very close second. The pastry counter has a very well stocked selection including whole cakes and tarts along with the individual servings. I had a difficult time deciding but settled on the quince tart, dulce de leche coconut tart and a dark chocolate dulce de leche cookie. So very delicious! read more

I'm a big fan of Sur Bakery - though more for the savory foods than for the sweet foods. Every Argentine has their favorite empanadas, and in the absence of those, I'll gladly eat Sur's beef empanadas or ham and cheese. The Argentine style pizza is great, too, and very filling. I'd also recommend any warmed up sandwich, though the choripan maybe too dry for an American palate. If you need something sweet, try the small croissant glazed with honey or a handheld tart called pastafrola filled with quince. Neither are too sweet and they are the best things in the case. The service is great, but when they are out of something they are out. It's a good place to watch Argentine soccer games, too. 2 tvs in a small space on either wall so you don't miss anything. read more

The bakery is attached to a cantina. So grab your lunch and then walk thru and pick up desert or just come in and get desert, snack, craving killer. These goodies are not the usual fare but tastes of a mini vacation south, way south. Flavors of quince (similar to guava) and dulche de Leche live here. I'm giving four stars for the service - cashier was friendly and gave lots of info about the different pastries. Unfortunately everything we got was really bland (two stars for the baked goods). Passionfruit cookies (a hint of citric but no real flavor); pistachio cookies (the biggest hit of the bunch); the hazelnut chocolate knot (a hint of hazelnut, couldn't taste much of that, couldn't taste any chocolate at all); there were a lot more that we purchased but I can't remember the names of. Nothing stuck out in particular and everything was extremely light on flavor and even lighter on sugar. read more

Good selection of pastries. I tried Alfajores De Maizena ($3.50 as of April 2022) and Cañoncitos in dulce de leche flavor (the price was not listed but I think they were about $3). Alfajores were very crumbly but overall tasted good. Great customer service, too! read more

Got some pastries from here today and they are all amazing! The baker was extremely friendly and took his time explaining to me the different options, and helped me pick out a ton of good stuff! My favorite was the fresh pastries he brought out to me that we're just cooked! Let me just add...... Not only are the baked goods great, but the price is also extremely fair. So happy to have been able to get some delicious goodies from this little bakery. The gentleman working (I'm assuming he is the owner) was so friendly. He bakes all the breads, pastries and empanadas. I got 12 empanadas to go & they were all delicious. They also sell various Argentinean meats, and sides (try the provolone cheese). - so bomb. I'm not around this area often, but I will go out of my way for more goodies from here. read more

We needed Argentinian food for a school project. Of course this was last minute and we scoured the internet and found this wonderful place in a difficult to get to strip mall right at the 512/South Tacoma Way interchange. We went in and were surprised with exactly the items we needed. We cooked up the empanadas today and they were delicious. I see that I will need to be going back for more. There as a large selection of fresh backed items, but we only came for one desert item, which was also very nice. We always like to try food items from other cultures and it was great to find an authentic place without having to go to Seattle. South Tacoma Way and Pacific Avenue have a wonderful collection of ethnic restaurants, markets, and bakeries; so take advantage and support our local entrepreneurs. read more

He was more than happy to passionately breakdown all of the pastries in the case! He also doesn't mind if you bring your own container! They have a small grocery as well, with a major feature of Argentinian coffees on display (also available as no frills drip, and oh so yummy!) What do I recommend? I was quite dissatisfied and disappointed a out this place. It is overpriced and the owner sold us an expired food item knowingly, not maliciously, but he knew. Not hard to read the dates, and had the nerves to say yea expired only for 10 days...Thanks to God I caught it because it was for my son. The ambiance, hmmmmm... it is definitely a to-go place. Coffee made out of a machine, overpriced and disappointed. I was expecting too much out of this place. Very unfortunate. Lots of potential. read more

Came here to try their alfajores, which are my all time favorite cookies. I fell in love with them when I went to Paraguay and Brazil, and haven't found a South American bakery until now. I tried the regular alfajores as well as the ones covered in chocolate. Big sized alfajore cookies and thought they were pretty tasty. I do prefer a thicker dulce de leche filling myself, while these has the standard layer of filling. These were tasty eaten alongside a cup of tea or coffee. They also made Filipino pandesals. I bought a pack of 6 rolls. I found these fantastic when toasted, then slathered with butter or jam or topped with Ottogi red pepper tuna. Very soft and moist when heated up. So if you try their pandesal, definitely toast them beforehand! This definitely makes a huge difference! I was a big fan of these! They also made an ube cake sold by the slice. This one I did not really taste an ube flavor at all, so it wasn't my favorite. It tasted more chocolate than anything. It came with a cream cheese frosting. The owner of the bakery was super nice and friendly. Really great customer service! They had so many different options, I didn't know what to try! Their empanadas looked so tasty, but I didn't buy any bc they didn't have any vegetarian options (I don't eat meat anymore). I would have loved to try a spinach and cheese option if there was one. I hope they can offer vegetarian empanadas next time. I will definitely be back to try more yummy desserts here whenever I am in the area. This particular location has seen many different owners come and go. So I hope you give small businesses like this a chance, so that they can stay at this location and continue to grow!
