This is my go-to place in Ventura County for Korean food, which is one of my comfort cuisines. The service is awesome and the food is delicious! Things come out boiling hot or sizzling (as they should) and the flavors are on point (even getting the spice level up to what I find acceptable). I've been slowly going vegan/vegetarian and they do have delicious options (my favorite right now is mushroom soon dooboo jige in a veggie broth). Friendly staff, quick food, always tastes fresh and flavorful. The appetizer dishes are delicious! We love getting refills on the fish patty strips (don't know the actual term) and the kimchi. my mouth is watering as I think of them the rice comes in a cute little metal bowl that's covered so it keeps it warm through the whole meal! As a Korean living in Oxnard, I've frequented this restaurant many times. The food has consistently been tasty and great. Everything on the menu is good and as well as the banchan (side dishes). If you're really hungry and want all you can eat, you'll have to hit up the other restaurant at the collection. If you want quality soft Tofu stew with your meal set, this is the place to be. I like the kalbi, bibimbap, spicy pork, and soft Tofu stew. Anthony Bourdain would approve :) We enjoyed homemade potstickers, a medium-spiced pork and mushroom stone pot, and a spicy kimchee stone pot. All of it was fantastic! Right before the stone pots arrived, our waitress delivered several side dishes to include with our soups and mentioned that if we wanted extras of anything, to just ask. The soups come with a side of rice, which was great for dipping into the broth and muting some of the spiciness - not that we didn't enjoy the heat! They have their heat scale down to a "T." There was a noticeable difference between the medium and spicy versions. It's nice to know that when you order according to spiciness, that you actually get what you asked for. We enjoyed all of it - the food, the atmosphere, and the awesome service. We can't wait to return and try out other items from the menu. read more

Great food and great service. I reccomend the beef bulgogi it's made with rib eye steak and melts in your mouth. A little bit on the pricey side but worth it for us and understandable considering the quality of ingredients and their location. read more

This place is excellent! It feels so authentic! I no longer have to make the 45 minute drive all the way to k town whenever I want good quality Korean food! And it's one of the only Korean places in Ventura county which is nice! The vibe is very chill and relaxing it's right by the water! I'm a regular and I've never been dissapointed. Staff is very nice too. The only thing I can really think of as a slight negative is I do tend to have to wait awhile almost every time I order, but I mean I'd rather wait and have quality food then get food that's been thrown together too quick! Hands down one of the best Korean place outside of Korea town. Have wide selection of Korean offering from soup , appetizers, main course and desserts. Have reasonable selection Korean beer and soju. Service is friendly. Server took time to walk us through various options. Ambience and location is very nice. Place is suited for regular lunch and special occasion dinner. We've been coming here quite often since we yelped this place. They offer a variety, and it's great to order a lot of different foods to share with family. My husband orders Kimchi chigae, (I don't want to stink up my home, so we come here for that), and we also order champong, chachangmyeun, tangsuyuk, bbq beef & spicy squid. I must say the champong and chachangmyeun is the best out of any Korean Chinese restaurant we've been to including LA and Fullerton. I know it sounds too good to be true, but we are just as surprised. Their ingredients seem very fresh and consistently good. We always ask for the sauce on the side to dip the tangsuyuk in, since we don't like it drenched in sauce. Tangsuyuk is nice and crispy. I liked the spicy squid too. I always have a craving for their chachangmyeun & champong though. Also, a big plus that it has a clean atmosphere. ^^ read more

Didn't expect much from a Korean restaurant in Oxnard but this place has some of the most flavorful Korean soup I've ever had! Ordered the Seafood Soft Tofu Soup and the Kimchi Stew. Both were fantastic! While the Seafood Tofu Soup was briny in all the right ways, the kimchi stew wasn't too spicy and had a great smoky pork flavor from all the pork belly in it. I love that this place uses the traditional purple multigrain rice. Love the texture and the super nutty flavor. Sides included fish cake, marinated tofu, seaweed, kimchi, cucumber slices, and soy sauce marinated stewed potatoes. Excellent meal! Come here if you're in the area and need a Korean fix! read more

Amazing place, the food is full of flavor. The food is cooked inside kitchen and bought to the table, so don't expect the grill at the table. The down fall is that for the portion of food serve, the price is a tad high. However, food taste great so that's fine by me. Their tofu soup is my favorite, however they do not put enough hot spice. We've had nothing but great experiences at Sura. We tend to get a chicken Kabob for husby and then share the veggie stone bowl. This gives plenty of food for everyone in the party. I agree the sides are authentic Korean (compared to LA's K-town) and are delicious. I especially like the Kimchi and side potatoes. We generally have a HITE beer to go with. Last Valentine's we requested Gimbap ahead of time (give the chef two days or more notice), and it was an especially large order and very tasty. The cost was around $10.99 for the fish. If I could, would go to Sura every night and try different meals, like the stews with tofu. read more

Last night we had our first experience at Sura. Our server, Olivia, was very helpful and had a very charming personality. She was attentive, knowledgeable and entertaining and deserves a great review as well. We had no idea what to order so Olivia was very resourceful. We started with the Kimchi pancake with pork. Delish! Sun Du Bu with pork and mushrooms, heat level number 2. It was temperature hot but very flavorful. Kalbi beef! Yummy! We will definitely be back soon. The owner came to our table and asked how we were doing. She was very sweet and hospitable. We raved about the food and server and she was genuinely appreciative. My wife and I love this place. The first Korean joint we've liked since we moved from LA. Actually so good in fact, we don't really feel the need to drive down to K-town anymore. We have gotten to know the staff and owners and will continue to support this local small business! The dolsot bibimbap is my go-to and my wife loves the mushroom tofu and short ribs. We have made Sura a regular spot and love it every time. And if you're looking for something off the menu, the Kimbap (beef roll) is legit. You just have to order it ahead of time. read more

After reading through the reviews, decided to try Sura for dinner and now find myself confused as to the positive reviews garnered by this restaurant. On all fronts - value, food quality and service - I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone that has even an iota of experience with (quality/authentic) Korean cuisine. The only item that was remotely passable was their rice (and their water which came in very handy to wash down the abhorrent food). Their kalbi was neither your LA or traditional cut with bone in but an overcooked mess of overly salted/soy sauce'd with no correlation to authentic Korean kalbi (think mongolian beef but closer to cardboard in composition); their pork belly w/kimchee was comic in that they clearly fried the kimchee separately from the pork, making the pork more rigid than cardboard devoid of any taste (this dish is traditionally made by stir frying both the pork belly and kimchee together; that way, the pork absorbs the kimchee juices so that the meat itself remains moist and replete with flavor); and finally, their japchae was the worst I've ever had: Sura's version is a glutinous mess devoid of any flavor and especially lacking in ingredients - in a word: terrible! There is some good news here: if they knock each of their dishes down to perhaps $5 per item, then Sura could at least fall into that special category of, "Food is not that great but hey, it's cheap - you get what you pay for." Service was equally abysmal but very much on par with value and food quality so at least they're consistent across all material metrics. If you are especially enamored with wasting your hard earned money on overly priced terrible food and be served in an incompetent manner then Sura is the place for you! I think this is the best Korean food that the Ventura County has to offer. I moved from LA to Santa Barbara around a year ago and would often crave Korean food since I was so used to eating it daily (I'm Korean if you haven't caught on yet). After looking online for ANYTHING in the Central Coast, my husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant in our Google search. Their food reminds me of home cooked meals and my countless visits to Koreatown -- it has now become my one-stop shop for just the Korean fix I need. This is a very nice place to go. The price is fair. Food is good. But we waited for More than 30 mins to get in. The older waiters/tresses are very nice and welcoming. But the two young waiter and waitress are very mean and look at us in a weird way from my point of view. And they treat us poorly. My sis asked for a water without ice and that was enough to make him look bad. But anyway. I still enjoy my dinner there. It's a small but sweet place! I only hope they can improve their service. Sura serves legitimate Korean food! I grew up in Koreatown as part of an immigrant Korean family and this place measures up to food that I've had growing up! We had yukkaejang, kimchi soon tofu, and kimchi pancake. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Korean soups and the yukkaejang here was done right: right ingredients, right level of "deepness" to the broth, right level of spice. The banchan was refreshingly good too. They serve geotjori (an unfermented variation of kimchi), seaweed, soybean sprouts, marinated potatoes, fish cake. Again, traditional fare but legit! I'll be back for sure to try their other items like barbecue on their menu, and I'll be proud to bring my grandmother along. read more
