AVOID THIS COMPANY! This is a huge scam. First, they insist on tenting. Their agreement indicates that they are not responsible for broken roof tiles. On my house they broke 60 tiles. The cost of replacing the tiles they broke is more than what I paid to have the house tented, according to one roofer who submitted a bid. Of course Surf City recommended another roofer who insisted that the underlay of the tiles was also damaged (without even coming to the house, much less getting on the roof). I don't know whether the tenting worked, but definitely they did more damage than they fixed, and it seems their aim (together with roofers) is to make the customer pay much more for the service. read more

Unfortunately, I am unable to rate this company on the basis of their pest control ability, as they failed to show up on time for two separate appointments to address a severe rodent infestation. An appointment was originally scheduled for Friday, 12/28 at 10am. I rearranged my work schedule and picked up an overnight shift (which will become relevant in a moment) to accommodate. At EOD on Thursday the 27th, I received a voicemail notifying me that Surf City Pest Control would be short a technician and needed to change their appointment time. As they called me five minutes before closing, I had to wait until the following morning to return their call, at which point they asked if a technician could come by at noon, after I'd already left for work. I declined and asked when was the soonest they could reschedule. They gave me a 10am to 12pm window on Saturday, 12/29. I worked until 9:30am, but I assumed that would not be an issue since I only work fifteen minutes from home. Beginning at 9:20, I received three missed calls from a personal cell phone number. Being at work, I was unable to answer, and the number never left a voicemail. See the attached screen shots proving that this number called repeatedly but simply hung up when no answer was received. Also see attached the record of the Lyft I took from work to home, arriving directly in front of my house at 9:59, just in time to accommodate my appointment window. I then stood in my front yard from 10am to 10:20 with my neighbor, whose home has also been affected by the rodent issue, before going inside to call Surf City and confirm the appointment time. I left two voicemails over the course of an hour, finally calling their emergency answering service at 11:30 when no one had appeared to service my home. I spoke to Gabby, who contacted the technician--the one, it turns out, who arrived forty minutes early and called me repeatedly without leaving an identifying message to alert me to his presence. Gabby informed me that the technician had claimed that he had waited outside for an hour--which, firstly, would not have been an issue had he arrived within his scheduled window--and said she'd contact the Surf City main office to reschedule an appointment for me. The technician also claimed he'd waited directly outside of my house until 10:15--a blatant lie, as there was no one parked on the street when I arrived and he would have seen my neighbor and I standing outside. Furthermore, my neighbors are, in fact, moving due to the rodent infestation, and were outside--with their enormous Uhaul--from 9am until 1 in the afternoon. Both of them said no one ever arrived, leading us to believe that the technician arrived to service the wrong address entirely. At this point I took it upon myself to text the technician and notify him that my neighbor and I had been standing outside for the first twenty minutes of his scheduled window. He called me, refused to apologize for showing up early or for failing to leave a message, and continued to insist that he'd waited outside until after 10:00, when my Lyft arrival time proves that he left well before his scheduled window even began. He also stated that he had to be to his next appointment by 10:30, which was why he left early. It is completely unacceptable to blame a customer for a scheduling mishap that I did not make. It's also a suspicious excuse, given that my appointment was scheduled in a two-hour window and thus his following appointment should have been scheduled the same way. Ultimately, I contacted my property manager, who contacted Gabby, who continued to cape for the technician and insist he'd been outside until 10:15; a blatant lie, as he'd have seen me waiting there as well as my neighbors coming in and out to load their truck. We've decided not to use Surf City due to their lack of professionalism and their failure to apologize or address their mistake. I now have to wait until after the first to have our massive rodent infestation addressed. Outstanding service! We found termites having a party in our eaves/ rafters 2 weeks ago. We called Surf City for an estimate last week , Felix came out and gave us an estimate, we liked the estimate (extremely affordable) and had the house 'de-termited' yesterday. Felix did an absolutely amazing job. Some rafter boards were replaced, and exterior, garage and attic were sprayed with a people/animal safe termite spray. Through Angie's List, I learned of this company, Surf City Pest Control. At the time that I called to schedule an appointment with them, they had 18 reviews -- all "A's." In particular, I appreciated the fact that could use organic spray inside our house as we have 4 indoor cats. When we moved to our house a couple of months ago, we noticed spider webs everywhere. Then the crickets were bad. So, my main goal was to downsize those two populations considerably. I made the call on Tuesday. Our house was sprayed inside and out for $125. That wasn't bad considering it was the initial spray, plus the garage needed to be sprayed as well. The guy who sprayed our house stated that because of our two dogs, their food and waste attracts flies... then crickets... then spiders. I'm not saying that's the food chain in order, but I understood that. He neglected to mention, though, that we have four different fruit trees that also attract a feast of flies, thus spiders. Additionally, we have really lush green grass which I know attracts crickets, thus spiders. So while I appreciated his input on that matter, I know very well those creatures infested this house long before we brought our dogs along. The guy was super nice. I guess he was efficient. I mean, I didn't hear crickets at all the night after he sprayed. There were dead carcasses of all kinds of insects many of which I failed to mention when we woke up this morning. So... yeah. It works. :) He also suggested that every month we have the back yard (where the dogs are) sprayed which would be $35 per visit. I don't think my husband's opposed to it, but I will waiting and watching in the meantime. I'm still going to stick with this company for Pest Control because they offer some great deals through Angie's List, particularly for termite treatments. We called for an inspection to get a second opinion about a termite issue. Felix the inspector came out and provided a thorough inspection and explanation of everything he was doing. After about 45 min, he provided a written estimate for a fumigation option and also a local treatment option. We decided on the local treatment using BoraCare per Felix's recommendation. I appreciate him being honest about not having to tent the house. He also provided his cell number, which I called to ask some follow up questions. He always responded within a couple hours. I called the office to set up a date for the treatment. Star was accommodating whenever I called to ask questions and to confirm the work authorization. I also made a request for Felix to be present on our treatment day. On the day of, I got a call giving me a 30 min heads up. And they showed up on time. Allen and Gilbert showed up with Felix. All were nice and professional. They showed up in clean company trucks and work shirts with company logos. They talked me through all the work and even showed me the termites in the fascia board they pulled out to replace. The wood repair (along with primer and painting) and the BoraCare treatment to the garage and attic were completed within 4 hours. All work areas were cleaned. Their estimate was a bit higher than another company we called out. But I gambled on them due to Felix's professionalism and knowledge. The warranty on their work seems to be pretty competitive too. In the end, I decided to go with a local, family owed company who obviously put a lot of pride in their professional appearance. I was not disappointed. I would call on them again. Surf City Pest Control is what you get for the price. You pay for cheap fumigation, and you get bad service in return. It is one thing to offer cheaper prices for fumigation, but with unprofessional, bad customer service, it is totally not worth the lower price... I'll layout my experience to justify my rating. I had to get on the phone over 4-6 times to verify, setup, and find out what was happening during this whole process. They were obviously unorganized when they started fumigation and had major organizational problems and the team in general was highly unprofessional. For preparation before fumigation the company forgot to drop off the bags to package foods. They were also late dropping off after 6pm leaving us a very short period of time to package and prepare all our belongings. Following the trend of being late, I was given a 11am - 1pm time frame for tenting, but they showed up after 1pm. After fumigation I found that they had broken our water boiler vent and the gas company wouldn't turn the fire back on so we couldn't get hot water. Also, they had disrupted the gas meter on the perimeter so this caused a leak and we had to call the gas company to come out to fix it. This whole experience was obviously not worth the cheaper price, and had I known the problems, issues and service I have experienced with this company, I would have never hired them for fumigation. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone I know and I hope you read this review thoroughly before hiring. If you are still not sure, just say NO. ---Below is my response to the owner's response--- 10/21/14 The response I received from the owner is an odd one... There was never anyone that came back to the house fix anything, this was something that we had to fix due to their mistake. Also, there was only one person that called to coordinate and not both wife and husband. There was no assuming here. I don't appreciate a response from a business that makes up lies and tries to cover up and minimize their mistakes. Coming after a designated time isn't acceptable and making up excuses that other people caused you to be late, doesn't change the fact that your business was not on time. Please do not respond to reviews to make it seem like your business cares about satisfaction when in fact you are just trying to cover up the mistakes and lie. Also, its not good to accuse your customers of being dumb or assuming things when it seems you do not know what exactly happened. Your response would have been much more helpful if you cut all that out and just apologized and acknowledged the errors made. I am very disappointed with the customer service in received today from Surf City Pest Control. I had my house sprayed 32 days ago for fleas. I was given a 30 day guarantee. I spotted a flea over the weekend. Labor Day was yesterday so I called today first thing this morning. My warranty is up by 2 days (holiday weekend made it impossible to get a hold of them) and they won't come spray again. I am convinced that they know their chemical will work for 30 days and on the 31st day the fleas will be back and they won't come help. Horrible customer service. Don't call them! Not if you have pets. I specifically tried to make sure their chemicals would be safe and we would not have to leave the house. It would be almost impossible to get all our pets out of the house for any length of time. Two weeks after they sprayed, my kitchen sink was full of ants! They came back and said they had to use their regular chemicals, not their eco-friendly spray outside Just keep your pets indoor for 2 hrs. A month later my bathroom had ants crawling in my shower and sink! They said they had to use their stronger spray and we had to disappear for 3 hrs to spray the indoors. Another words, their eco-friendly spray does not work!! They charged me $55 extra on top of what I already paid for the eco friendly price. It was a month and 3 days. Surf City Pest Control is a fine company, as long as you are a happy customer. If you take issue with their methods and/or question their success, be prepared to be treated with hostility and blame. I have used Surf City in the past for ants and fleas. Usually, the treatments didn't work the first time and a second treatment was required. All good. After living in my house for 18 years, a few months ago mice invaded. Surf City sent out a technician who pointed out some areas that mice might be accessing the house from. He used some cement to plug up those places and set some traps under the house, in the attic, and in the kitchen near the cat food where the mice left their "evidence". The contract provided for a 30 day warranty and a technician came and checked the traps 4 more times. Each time there were mouse droppings in plain sight. Traps were swapped out. After the 4th visit, I was told that since the mice were still active, the only way they could get in was through my patio door which is left open most days (never at night). I rejected that theory in that mice would have to come in through the door which opens to a large, unobstructed concrete patio, and run through the house to get to the kitchen where the cat food is. Highly unlikely! I called another pest control company for a second opinion. Mainly, I just wanted to know if someone else believed mice were coming in the same door that I, and my cat who kills as many mice as he can catch, go in and out of all day long. The company sent out a guy who pointed out other access points Surf City had not plugged up. He also noted that the traps, which he considered sub-standard, had been set without bait on them. His opinion regarding mice coming through an open door: laughable. I told Surf City that I was not happy with my service. They sent one of the 2 technicians who had been servicing my property. I told him I was frustrated that I paid them $325 to get rid of the mice, and that I still had mice. The man categorically denied that there was anything wrong with their service and that If I still had mice, it was my fault for leaving the door open. In frustration, because not only did I still have mice, but I was also now realizing I would have to find another pest control company, I said my only recourse would be a bad review. The guy kind of exploded. He raised his voice, hands gesticulating, and demanded to know what they had done wrong that warranted a bad review: One, I still have mice, and two, I now have a hostile man yelling at me in my house. After he left saying, "have a nice life" (don't think he meant it), I started researching other companies. I spoke to a man, Milton with Absolute Serenity Pest Control, who was great! When I asked him about the open door issue, he educated me in great detail about mouse behavior and how it differs from other rodents. I had been operating under the assumption that mice were nocturnal so entering a house in daylight would be unlikely. Milton corrected me. If Surf City had told me that, I might have been able to accept their diagnosis. The good news is, I now have a friendly and kind pest control service when I need it. read more

They treated my property for Roaches. The same day they were still present. They came back out on a 30 warranty 4 days later so yes that means emptying every cabinet and pushing EVERYTHING to the center of each room again. Took me 3 hours (before and after to do so by myself) 6 hours now 12 hours because they came out twice. Here i am not even 10 days between "treatment" and needless to say they're still present and I mean every where. Its not the Companies fault its i guess So many. But its not right they're offering a service that they are not fulfilling. I'm not mad. Im sad. This is really sad. read more

Buyer beware. We have used this company in the past, and called them today to take care of an ant problem. They surveyed the problem, quoted $139 for inside and out - but said I would have to leave the house for two hours after, which they didn't tell me in advance when I scheduled the appointment. They offered a "discount" to do the exterior only. $125. Big savings, huh? Worse, they wouldn't let me reschedule without penalty. They are at least partially responsible for not communicating effectively and yet I'm bearing the brunt of their incompetence, as well as the cost. BEWARE. read more

Had them come out for rat problems in July. House was not sealed properly and rats got in (5). Had to have it done twice and there is foam everywhere (need to be trimmed) and rat dropping cleaned up. Surf city came out a few months ago and treated for bed bugs. They came out 2 weeks later as per their procedure and treated again. The bugs returned almost immediately. They came out again and treated. Didn't work and by then the 30 day warranty had lapsed. We had them out again and paid again. No results after 2 more follow ups. This review is long overdue. We had four estimates for termite treatment and Surf City Pest Control was our best choice. The price and service were very reasonable. The BoraCare was suggested and no tenting needed. A few holes were bored into the walls and concrete around the house. The holes in the concrete could have been sealed better. Other than appearance not bad. A hose was used to spray product in the attic and poured in trenches, where necessary. The wood repair/replacement was done better than expected and we were quite pleased. Our neighbor's noticed the work being done and asked for an estimate. They liked what they saw and had tenting done the very next day. All in all they delivered what was promised and we would use them again. read more

I found out about these guys via Angie's List when I had an issue with Wolf spiders. I have lived in my home for over 9 years and have never had an issue with insects, but last Spring, (2015), I had a small nightmare. I ordered the annual package and I'll be honest, I was a little concerned about hiring them as I live in the West valley, which is quite a trek for them! However, they have been amazing. They have been effective and proactive from beginning to end; they call me to schedule the quarterly treatments and out of four visits, all were on time. I actually got their services a few years ago, maybe like 2 or 3... I was having a huge ant problem and needed someone to spray. I called them and set up an appointment. The guy who came to spray was very professional and good at his job. When he found out I was in the military he let me know about the military discounts their company offered to veterans. After he was done, he said the treatment would last a few months, I don't remember how many months, but just a few. No more than 6. Well it's been way more than 6 months, (about 2 or 3 years) and I am barely beginning to see ants in my yard again. When we tried to renew despite the fact that on the website it says $95 for quarterly they said no you have to pay an additional price that's not noted on the website. Sorry our IT folks screwed up. The front office (Star I believe) is spot on with regards to returning calls, giving heads up calls before a technician arrives both the day of and the day before. Payment was easy and quick. Their quotes are fast and delivered by e-mail. The technician was always on time. Most importantly, Felix (the service technician and estimator) is awesome. This is the second time I've had Felix at the house and he is equally knowledgeable, hard working, efficient and personable. Surf City Termite & Pest Control did a termite application to the attic and infested roof eaves. They back their work with a 1 year warranty to the entire structure and 3 years to all areas treated. Gosh. Hate to write a bad review after being a loyal customer for years. But I can't stand bad customer service. For years I've paid $159 for my annual or semi annual spray. I have a triplex, but all 3 units combined are the size of a small single family home (2500 sq ft). They've known this for years as they've not only done my regular pest control but also my termite treatments. Well it seems they've restructured their business and now they want me to pay triple the price because of the 3 front doors. I can't spray the inside of my unit currently (dogs) and they still want to charge me $250 to just do the 2 units that I rent out. When I explained that I don't understand trying to charge a loyal customer double they basically said "sorry to see you leave" with zero effort to work it out. well! That's exactly what I'm doing. Too many folks in the pest control business to be treated like dirt. I understand raising prices - but doubling them and expecting me to stay a customer is insane. read more

What a great guy, in this heat (100 degrees), he climbed into my attic to 'check it out' and gave it to me straight without the 'hard sell' or 'scare tactics' so many companies used. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I hired then to spray a rental house prior to moving in from out of state. When we arrived there were no signs of the service being done, no dead insects only live insects. In fact, the landlord said he was at the house the day of the alleged service and there were no odors or signs of insecticide being used. Surf City did an awesome job. I had wasps in the attic and found a deal thru Living Social with Surf City Pest Control for quarterly treatments for a year. My main goal was to just get rid of the wasps. I called Surf City and spoke to Gaby, who was very pleasant to deal with. We set up the appointment and she even called the day before they were to arrive to confirm. Nathan from Surf City showed on time and was very pleasant to deal with. Since this was a "Deal", I assumed they would take care of the wasps and just give a quick treatment but I was totally wrong. Nathan first tackled the wasps. He searched the attic until he found them. He found three 3" nest up there. He sprayed and removed all of them. He then sprayed around the house and the perimeter of the property before coming inside and spraying along the baseboards. Called them to fumigate a 4 unit apt bldg on short notice. They got the plastic bags to the tenants the next day and arrived for the fumigation on time. The crew putting the tent on the bldg were very professional and curteous. Ran into a problem with the gas meters, gas co not able to shut off the meters. I had to scramble to find and electrician to see if problem could be corrected so that the fumigation could proceed. The tenants had all moved out and staying in hotels that I paid for. Star in the office was very patient worked with me while I was trying to corrcect the problem and get the gas meters shut off. Finally around 4pm the gas co shut off the meters. Star got the crew to come back to finish the tenting and procced with the fumigation. The crew finished around 6 just as it was getting dark. Star worked with me, with patience to get me thru this project. Getting the fumigation done as scheduled saved me a lot of hassle and a lot of money. The crew was polite, friendly and professional. As a direct result of the exterminator not cleaning up the slippery wood floor in my hallway I came home and fell hard on my left knee....I had to wear a knee brace for about two weeks and it cost about $70...fortunately at my job at the nursing home I was able to continue as I am in the activities department...they actually came out twice...the first time they sprayed and the second time they used a fogger ...when I called them after having fallen...I actually had to crawl to get to my bedroom where there was carpet...all the manager said was they would come over the next day to clean up the mess...at the very least they could have reimbursed me my $130...and it would have been a smart move on their part to at least offer to pay for the brace..therefore I give them two stars and that's being very generous. read more
