Pleasant surprise! We stayed across the street from the Surf Hut, and didn't hold high hopes. I visited late morning from the beach, sat on the back deck overlooking the gulf, had some magnificent oysters with friendly service, and was sold! Came back later the day with the spouse and kids, and everyone enjoyed the meal. Very good fried grouper, kids enjoyed their burgers and fries, and I had more fantastic oysters. Kid friendly with a corn hole game play area just off the deck, kid meals served in a frisbee. Yay, Surf Hut! Exceptional location, very friendly and accommodating service. Note that when there is a wait, which there often is, they will text you when your table is ready, so check in when you get there. read more

Came here with my 2 sisters and we were not disappointed. We had an hour wait ahead of us for a table but were able to get seats at the bar pretty quickly. The service was fast and the food was delicious. Will definitely come back in the future! read more

This place is awesome! Visited twice in our week long trip down. Best service we had in Destin. Food is sooooo good. I highly recommend the Seared Grouper, Fried Shrimp, Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp Tacos, crab legs (best band for your buck compared to other places, and the Captains Platter! I got the platter grilled ($3 extra) and it was so worth it! We put our name in for 13 and took family pictures out back while we waited, it is such a great atmosphere they have. read more

From pulling into the parking lot and smelling the food mixed in with the sound of the ocean, was the the best. But what took the cake was the shrimp and gritsdinner. I was knocked out of my seat with flavor and it had that little hint of Cajun kick to it as well. The service was fantastic. OK, but not great. We come every year for 4 months and skipped the surf hut this year.

Went for lunch when our friends came into town. While we have never been there we are within walking distance and the food always smells so good! It didn't disappoint! The ttacos are amazing. I would imagine the pork sandwich is really good as the meat for it has great flavor. We also had the shrimp and grits and they were really good! We will definitely being going back! read more

Fish was good, the tres tacos were okay. Skip the pork taco and just have the fish or shrimp tacos.

My family and I went to the Surf Hut and we found the menu to be limited with not a lot to choose from. We ordered drinks and an appetizer then left and went down the road to Ponpanio Joes; highly recommend that place. Had great service and food was yummy! read more

This was the first place we stopped at on our way into town for lunch. They have awesome lunch specials with very reasonable prices and portions. We both got the fried shrimp lunch plate which was delicious. My husband tried some raw oysters (out of season currently) and because they were small, our waitress gave him extra at no additional charge. This place is right on the beach with awesome gulf view. Has a very laid back beach atmosphere, several people were there right from the beach in their swimsuits. We would certainly eat here again! read more

The menu needs to be extremely clear about what you are getting. I ordered the peel and eat shrimp and it was caked up with horrible tasting celery seasoning of some kind. It was extremely hot and spicy to the point of being sickening. Also, all the other meals were too hot and spicy. I do not understand the obsession with everything being so hot and spicy. Might as well just eat a bowl of seasoning because it completely ruins the food. For the amount I paid at the Surf Hut, I should have been able to taste the food, but that was not the case. The surf hut is really great all around. The grilled grouper was awesome and cooked perfectly. The wife ordered the pulled pork sliders and they were also great and full of flavor. Beachy atmosphere with good view to the ocean. I had the grouper tacos (corn tortillas) and just about fell out of my chair on the first bite. Not very impressed. Food was ok, but I thought it was a bit pricey. Kids meals were $7.99 and didn't include a drink. Their drinks were an extra 2.50 each. Waiter didn't offer drink or food specials. We've come here twice over several years and really liked it both times. Great service, nice atmosphere, good food. The beachfront location is wonderful and a fun place to visit and play while waiting for a table (and a great photo spot at sunset). The blackened fish tacos were excellent. read more

There is nothing redeeming about this restaurant. The food was overpriced and bland. Our server, also the bartender, told our medium-sized party that it was not possible to split the check, which is ridiculous, being it a slow Thursday night. The owner, while friendly, vanished at the exact moment that our party began having problems. The food problems could be overcome, but the service was irreconcilably bad. If you enjoy feeling like a tourist at the mercy of the local junky seafood joint, this is the place for you. If you're looking for dinner that won't leave your completely disappointed, try elsewhere. read more

The food was mediocre. I ordered a drink called the Floridian and it was terrible. Hardly any alcohol and it tasted like a premix. Not worth 8 dollars. The owner was there and you could tell he was really trying but other than the view the restaurant had nothing to brag about. read more

I have a family of six. 4 under 10. So it is never easy. There was a long wait, but we found a seat on the bar side and ordered right away. Food arrived quickly, was exceptional. The manager stopped by while we were waiting and made small talk with the kids. After dinner, he came back and asked my kids how the food was... calling them by their names when he asked. We live in the area and have been waiting for a not-so-crowded time to visit the Surf Hut. Last night was our first and last time to eat there. I ordered the grilled fish tacos with rice and beans, and my husband ordered fried oysters with french fries and fruit. The grilled fish was greasy and the rice and beans looked as though they were left over from lunch. The oysters were greasy and soggy and not hot, the french fries cold, and the fruit looked as though it had seen better days. And we paid a small fortune for this food, most of which was left on our plates. The waitstaff was friendly, the beach location perfect, but the food was lousy. This place has the feel of a real tourist trap. read more

Where told it would be 30 mins, it was 50. Okay no problem its 9pm on sat night. However when I order a app a salad and a sandwich, I don't want them all at once. I was not the only table served this way. JUST THE ONLY ONE TO COMPLAIN, to wich they gave us a 15% discount. Nice save by a manager. HE mentioned there computer not working correctly. The atmosphere was OK, but the food was very over rated and pricy for the quality of it. I had the baked grouper and it was very dry and distasteful. The vegetable was very watery and overlooked. I do not recommend this place. read more
